The lasing properties of organic compounds in a polymethylmethacrylate matrix pumped by a copper vapor laser are studied.
The results demonstrate that the transverse pumping scheme of solid-state laser-active media with the copper vapor laser is
promising compared to the longitudinal pumping scheme from the viewpoint of the lifetime parameters.

A compact self-seeded pulsed tunable laser is described. Its optical cavity comprises a diffraction grating, operating at
a grazing angle of incidence as a spectral selector and narrow-band spectral gate. The grating couples two partially overlapping
laser channels: a highly selective master laser and a nonselective slave laser. Due to the implemented efficient intracavity
self-seeding the laser emits spectrally pure single-longitudinal-mode radiation at two independently tunable wavelengths,
with an efficiency and output energy that are typical for nonselective lasers. Results of the experimental investigation of
the laser’s output characteristics are presented.

The overtone gain medium of a small-scale HF overtone laser was probed using a sub-Doppler tunable diode laser. Two-dimensional
spatially resolved small signal gain and temperature maps were generated for several ro-vibrational transitions in the HF
(v=2→v=0) overtone band. Our results compare well with previous measurements of the overtone gain in a similar HF laser device.

Subpicosecond pulse generation has been examined in synchronously pumped mode-locked ring dye laser systems. These include hybrid and composite absorber/gain media arrangements as well as a simple synchronous cavity. The shortest pulses recorded were 0.3 ps for the hybrid system, and this has been shown to be critically dependent on the positioning of the absorber jet in the centre of the cavity to better than 50 m. Stable operation for subpicosecond pulse generation has been achieved in the ring configuration with greater wavelength tunability and higher average power conversion efficiency than with conventional cavity arrangements. 相似文献

Using only one grating and plane parallel glass plate in a novel double-grazing incidence configuration, twice higher dispersion
is obtained, resulting in twofold narrowing of the single-pass linewidth, compared to the single grazing-incidence scheme.
This laser cavity design features several-times improved signal-to-noise ratio and enhanced stability. Single-mode operation
of 210±50 MHz is demonstrated. 相似文献

We present the first operation of a distributed feedback solid state dye laser with a dynamic, pump-induced grating. Broadly
tunable, narrow band operation in the region of 616 nm (604–649 nm) has been demonstrated with perylene red laser dye doped
in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), when pumped with a frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser. Conversion efficiencies of 20%, corresponding
to 35% optical-to-optical efficiency, have been measured. The laser bandwidth was between 0.01 and 0.04 nm, and smooth tuning
over more than 200 GHz has been demonstrated.

We investigate the dynamics of the excited-state population, the cavity photon number, and the spectrum of an optically pumped
nanosecond-pulsed dye laser containing bandwidth-narrowing elements in the cavity. We show that, in order to achieve single-mode
operation, the pump-pulse duration has to be long enough and the dye concentration sufficiently high. This is partly due to
the frequency shift of the laser spectrum during the decrease of the excited-state population towards its steady-state value.
We demonstrate a single-mode dye laser, where single-mode selection is realised with the aid of an intracavity Fox–Smith interferometer.
In this way we have obtained 5-ns-long pulses at the wavelength of 590 nm with a pulse energy of 6 mJ and a spectral width
of 100 MHz (FWHM).

It is observed that the efficiency of the DCM dye dissolved in ethylene glycol benzyl alcohol can be enhanced if the dye is
preheated at a temperature of 150 °C. Peak powers as high as 1.5 W have been achieved with a single-mode ring dye laser at
640 nm when pumped by 9 W (all lines) from an argon-ion laser. The wavelength region has been also extended beyond both ends
of the tuning curve compared to a conventionally prepared DCM dye.

Diode-pumped Cr:LiCAF fs regenerative amplifier system seeded by an Er-doped mode-locked fiber laser
A fs regenerative amplifier based on Cr:LiCAF is demonstrated for the first time. With direct diode pumping, 8 μJ of pulse
energy are obtained directly from the amplifier. When seeded by an Er-doped fiber laser, the amplified seed pulses are compressed
down to 252 fs, limited by residual net third-order dispersion of the compression gratings and intracavity elements. Pulse
broadening due to second- and third-order dispersion is theoretically investigated and compared to experimental results. Dispersion
generated by the geometrical cavity arrangement is measured experimentally.

We have characterized a semiconductor amplifier laser system which provides up to 200 mW output after a single-mode optical
fiber at 780 nm wavelength. The system is based on a tapered semiconductor gain element, which amplifies the output of a narrow-linewidth
diode laser. Gain and saturation are discussed as a function of operating temperature and injection current. The spectral
properties of the amplifier are investigated with a grating spectrometer. Amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) causes a spectral
background with a width of 4 nm FWHM. The ASE background was suppressed to below our detection limit by a proper choice of
operating current and temperature and by sending the light through a single-mode optical fiber. The final ASE spectral density
was less than 0.1 nW/MHz, i.e. less than 0.2% of the optical power. Related to an optical transition linewidth of Γ/2π=6 MHz
for rubidium, this gives a background suppression of better than -82 dB. An indication of the beam quality is provided by
the fiber coupling efficiency of up to 59%. The application of the amplifier system as a laser source for atom-optical experiments
is discussed.

We report on new, simple and efficient multipass amplifiers using prisms or corner cubes to perform several passes in different
planes of incidence. This scheme provides an optimised overlap between the signal passes and the pumped volume. We investigated
our amplification geometry with Nd:YAG and Nd:YVO4 crystals: the use of a low-doped (0.3%) Nd:YVO4 crystal allowed better thermal behaviour and higher performance. We amplified a pulsed microlaser (110 mW of average power
at 1064 nm) and obtained a diffraction-limited output beam with an average power of 5.7 W for 15 W of pump power and a small-signal
gain of 56 dB in a six-pass configuration.

A compact, tunable and narrow-bandwidth laser source for blue and ultraviolet radiation is presented. A grating-stabilized
diode laser at 922 nm is frequency-stabilized to below 100 Hz relative to a reference resonator. Injection of the diode-laser
light into a tapered amplifier yields a power of 0.5 W. In a first frequency-doubling stage, more than 200 mW of blue light
at 461 nm is generated by use of a periodically poled KTP crystal. Subsequent second-harmonic generation employing a BBO crystal
leads to about 1 mW of ultraviolet light at 231 nm.

Applying single- and double-pulse excitation at 800 nm, the kinetics of the upconversion fluorescence in the green, as well
as the upconversion laser at 543 nm was studied. No significant delay between the pumping pulse and the laser emission was
found. In the erbium doped (1000 ppm) optical fiber, the mechanism responsible for the upconversion is purely of the excited
state absorption (ESA) type. The double-pulse technique enables also a determination of the lifetime of the intermediate metastable
state 4

11/2 (7±0.3 ms). Some other basic properties of the upconverted fluorescence and of the laser itself (fluorescence spectrum, optical
gain, laser threshold) are also described.

A single picosecond ultraviolet pulse has been generated based on mode-locking of a dye laser pumped by a long pulse XeCl laser to serve as the input source for a high-power ps KrF laser system. A short-pulse uv dye laser (BBQ) pumped by an additional XeCl laser was used to selectively amplify a single pulse from a mode-locked pulse train with the pulse separation of 3.2 ns. The amplified single pulse was frequency-doubled to 248 nm with the pulse duration of 20 ps. 相似文献

We report two kinds of compact and efficient diode-end-pumped TEM00 lasers with output power >25 W at ≈50 W of incident pump power. One laser consists of a single 0.3 at. % Nd:YVO4 crystal in a V-type cavity, the other laser includes two 0.5 at. % Nd:YVO4 crystals in a linear cavity. Experimental results show that lowering Nd3+ concentration can be beneficial in extending the fracture-limited pump power but it also increases the sensitivity of the
pump wavelength due to the overlapping efficiency.

We investigated the energetic and thermal performance of a diode-side-pumped Nd:YAG rod laser with up to 50 W power deposited
as excess heat into a 3-mm-diameter, 10-cm-length rod. The rod design produces an extremely flat gain profile resulting in
“textbook” expressions of thermal lensing and birefringence. Thermal and energetic measurements are compared to corresponding
“textbook” theoretical expressions. Discrepancies between various published thermo-mechanical YAG parameters are resolved
by a self-consistent set of measured and calculated data for rod thermal lens focal lengths, birefringence depolarization
and ratio of heat to stored energy (χ). Measured thermal and energetic performance under lasing and nonlasing conditions are
presented, which agree with published theoretical expressions and measurements. Compensation of rod thermal lensing with simple
spherical concave lenses is demonstrated. In addition various methods for compensating birefringence depolarization are theoretically
and experimentally analyzed and compared.
