In this paper we prove a sufficient condition for the existence of a Hamilton cycle, which is applicable to a wide variety of graphs, including relatively sparse graphs. In contrast to previous criteria, ours is based on two properties only: one requiring expansion of “small” sets, the other ensuring the existence of an edge between any two disjoint “large” sets. We also discuss applications in positional games, random graphs and extremal graph theory.  相似文献

We combine two well-known results by Mader and Thomassen, respectively. Namely, we prove that for any k-connected graph G (k≥4), there is an induced cycle C such that GV(C) is (k−3)-connected and GE(C) is (k−2)-connected. A sign-nonsingular matrix or L-matrix A is a real m× n matrix such that the columns of any real m×n matrix with the same sign pattern as A are linearly independent. The problem of recognizing square L-matrices is equivalent to that of finding an even cycle in a directed graph. In this paper we use graph theoretic methods to investigate L-matrices. In particular, we determine the maximum number of nonzero elements in square L-matrices, and we characterize completely the semicomplete L-matrices [i.e. the square L-matrices (aij) such that at least one of aij and aij is nonzero for any i,j] and those square L-matrices which are combinatorially symmetric, i.e., the main diagonal has only nonzero entries and aij=0 iff aji=0. We also show that for any n×n L-matrix there is an i such that the total number of nonzero entries in the ith row and ith column is less than n unless the matrix has a completely specified structure. Finally, we discuss the algorithmic aspects.  相似文献

This paper introduces a method of listing all nonequivalent quotients of any connected regular graph of even degree with a given 2-factorization. The method is based on the characterization of connected 2d-regular graphs as Schreier coset graphs given by Gross (J. Combin. Theory Ser. B22 (1977), 227–232). Various representations of a given graph with a fixed 2-factorization are also investigated. The work is related to graph imbedding theory, particularly to voltage and current graphs.  相似文献

We prove that every bipartite C2l‐free graph G contains a C4‐free subgraph H with e(H) ≥ e(G)/(l – 1). The factor 1/(l – 1) is best possible. We construct infinite planar graphs of arbitrarily large connectivity and girth, and study their separation properties. These graphs have no thick end but continuum many thin ones. Every finite cycle separates them, but they corroborate Diestel’s conjecture that everyk-connected locally finite graph contains a possibly infinite cycle — see [3] — whose deletion leaves it (k — 3)-connected.  相似文献

Given two nonnegative integers s and t, a graph G is (s,t)-supereulerian if for any disjoint sets X,YE(G) with |X|≤s and |Y|≤t, there is a spanning eulerian subgraph H of G that contains X and avoids Y. We prove that if G is connected and locally k-edge-connected, then G is (s,t)-supereulerian, for any pair of nonnegative integers s and t with s+tk−1. We further show that if s+tk and G is a connected, locally k-edge-connected graph, then for any disjoint sets X,YE(G) with |X|≤s and |Yt, there is a spanning eulerian subgraph H that contains X and avoids Y, if and only if GY is not contractible to K2 or to K2,l with l odd.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the ratio of the numbers of odd and even cycles in outerplanar graphs. We verify that the ratio generally diverges to infinity as the order of a graph diverges to infinity. We also give sharp estimations of the ratio for several classes of outerplanar graphs, and obtain a constant upper bound of the ratio for some of them. Furthermore, we consider similar problems in graphs with some pairs of forbidden subgraphs/minors, and propose a challenging problem concerning claw-free graphs.  相似文献

By Petersen's theorem, a bridgeless cubic graph has a 2‐factor. H. Fleischner extended this result to bridgeless graphs of minimum degree at least three by showing that every such graph has a spanning even subgraph. Our main result is that, under the stronger hypothesis of 3‐edge‐connectivity, we can find a spanning even subgraph in which every component has at least five vertices. We prove that a 171‐edge‐connected graph has an edge‐decomposition into paths of length 3 if and only its size is divisible by 3.
