We discuss our attempts to generalize the known examples of dualities in N = 1 supersymmetric gauge theories to exceptional gauge groups. We derive some dual pairs from known examples connected to exceptional groups and find an interesting phenomenon: sometimes the full global symmetry is “hidden” on the magnetic side. It is not realized as a symmetry on the fundamental fields in the Lagrangian. Rather, it emerges as a symmetry of the quantum theory. We then focus on an approach based on self-dual models. We construct duals for some very special matter content of E7, E6 and F4. Again we find that the full global symmetry is not realized on the fundamental fields.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider families of operators \({\{x_r\}_{r \in \Lambda}}\) in a tracial C*-probability space \({({\mathcal{A}}, \varphi)}\) , whose joint *-distribution is invariant under free complexification and the action of the hyperoctahedral quantum groups \({\{H_n^+\}_{n \in \mathbb {N}}}\) . We prove a strong form of Haagerup’s inequality for the non-self-adjoint operator algebra \({{\mathcal{B}}}\) generated by \({\{x_r\}_{r \in \Lambda}}\) , which generalizes the strong Haagerup inequalities for *-free R-diagonal families obtained by Kemp–Speicher (J Funct Anal 251:141–173, 2007). As an application of our result, we show that \({{\mathcal{B}}}\) always has the metric approximation property (MAP). We also apply our techniques to study the reduced C*-algebra of the free unitary quantum group \({U_n^+}\) . We show that the non-self-adjoint subalgebra \({{\mathcal{B}}_n}\) generated by the matrix elements of the fundamental corepresentation of \({U_n^+}\) has the MAP. Additionally, we prove a strong Haagerup inequality for \({{\mathcal{B}}_n}\) , which improves on the estimates given by Vergnioux’s property RD (Vergnioux in J Oper Theory 57:303–324, 2007).  相似文献

We consider symmetry breaking in the context of vector bundle theory, which arises quite naturally not only when attempting to “gauge” symmetry groups, but also as a means of localizing those global symmetry breaking effects known as spontaneous. We review such spontaneous symmetry breaking first for a simplified version of the Goldstone scenario for the case of global symmetries, and then in a localized form which is applied to a derivation of some of the phenomena associated with superconduction in both its forms, type I and type II. We then extend these procedures to effect the Higgs mechanism of electroweak theory, and finally we describe an extension to the flavor symmetries of the lightest quarks, including a brief discussion of CP-violation in the neutral kaon system. A largely self-contained primer of vector bundle theory is provided in Sect. 4, which supplies most of the results required thereafter.  相似文献

We give an account of the genesis of the gauge groups of the standard model plus gravity and their concomitant interaction terms ab initio from a consideration of the quantization of certain classical discrete symmetries. We indicate how the resulting symmetries may be gauged upon a semi-quantized non manifold-like model of spacetime. This model is briefly introduced and some of its pre- or quantum geometry is developed from first principles. The formalism leads to a view of gauge interaction that admits an apparently new form of symmetry breaking that accounts, among other things, for the chiral breaking of the weak interaction. (A sequel will give an account of a range of mechanisms to break other symmetries arising in the standard model, and will consider some of their experimental consequences.)  相似文献

We construct a model of spin-Hall effect on a noncommutative four sphere S 4 Θ with isospin degrees of freedom, coming from a noncommutative instanton, and invariance under a quantum group SO θ. The corresponding representation theory allows to explicitly diagonalize the Hamiltonian and construct the ground state; there are both integer and fractional excitations. Similar models exist on higher dimensional spheres S Θ N and projective spaces . Dedicated to Rafael Sorkin with friendship and respect.  相似文献

In perturbative quantum gravity, the sum of the classical Lagrangian density, a gauge fixing term and a ghost term is invariant under two sets of supersymmetric transformations called the BRST and the anti-BRST transformations. In this paper we will analyse the BRST and the anti-BRST symmetries of perturbative quantum gravity in curved spacetime, in linear as well as non-linear gauges. We will show that even though the sum of ghost term and the gauge fixing term can always be expressed as a total BRST or a total anti-BRST variation, we can express it as a combination of both of them only in certain special gauges. We will also analyse the violation of nilpotency of the BRST and the anti-BRST transformations by introduction of a bare mass term, in the massive Curci-Ferrari gauge.  相似文献

We review some rigorous results (and include some new ones) on charges, symmetry breaking and related concepts in quantum theories without locality (micro-causality), relevant examples of which are quantum lattice systems, (nonrelativistic) many-body and lattice gauge theories. In particular, Goldstone's theorem and its generalizations (involving long-range forces) and Swieca's theorem on the connection between the absence of charged states and the existence of a mass gap are discussed.  相似文献

A generalized Noether's theorem and the operational determination of a physical geometry in quantum physics are used to motivate a quantum geometry consisting of relations between quantum states that are defined by a universal group. Making these relations dynamical implies the nonlocal effect of the fundamental interactions on the wave function, as in the Aharonov–Bohm effect and its generalizations to non-Abelian gauge fields and gravity. The usual space–time geometry is obtained as the classical limit of this quantum geometry using the quantum-state space metric.  相似文献

In this paper nonlinear dynamical symmetries of three quantum systems are studied in detail, such as theKepler-Coulomb system and the isotropic harmonic oscillator in a two-dimensional curved space, and the generalizedpseudo-oscillators in the two-dimensional flat space. Their nonlinear spectrum generating algebras are shown to berelevant to polynomial angular momentum algebras.  相似文献

We study the quantum nucleation in a nanometer-scale antiferromagnet placed in a magnetic field at an arbitrary angle. We consider the magnetocrystalline anisotropy with tetragonal symmetry and that with hexagonal symmetry, respectively. Different structures of the tunneling barriers can be generated by the magnitude and the orientation of the magnetic field. We use the instanton method in the spin-coherent-state path-integral representation to calculate the dependence of the rate of quantum nucleation and the crossover temperature on the orientation and strength of the field for bulk solids and two-dimensional films of antiferromagnets, respectively. We find that the rate of quantum nucleation and the crossover temperature from thermal-to-quantum transitions depend on the orientation and strength of the external magnetic field distinctly, which can be tested by use of existing experimental techniques.  相似文献

Associated to every finite group, Kitaev has defined the quantum double model for every orientable surface without boundary. In this paper, we define boundaries for this model and characterize condensations; that is, we find all quasi-particle excitations (anyons) which disappear when they move to the boundary. We then consider two phases of the quantum double model corresponding to two groups with a domain wall between them, and study the tunneling of anyons from one phase to the other. Using this framework we discuss the necessary and sufficient conditions when two different groups give the same anyon types. As an application we show that in the quantum double model for S 3 (the permutation group over three letters) there is a chargeon and a fluxion which are not distinguishable. This group is indeed a special case of groups of the form of the semidirect product of the additive and multiplicative groups of a finite field, for all of which we prove a similar symmetry.  相似文献

In this paper, we focus on some aspects of the relation of spacetime and quantum mechanics and the study counterparts (in Set) of the categorical local symmetries of smooth 4-manifolds. In the set-theoretic limit, there emerge some exotic smoothness structures on R4 (hence the Riemannian nonvanishing curvature), which fit well with the quantum mechanical lattice of projections on infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces. The method we follow is formalization localized on the open covers of the spacetime manifold. We discuss our findings in the context of the information paradox assigned to evaporating black holes. A black hole can evaporate entirely, but the smoothness structure of spacetime will be altered and, in this way, the missing information about the initial states of matter forming the black hole will be encoded. Thus, the possible global geometric remnant of black holes in spacetime is recognized as exotic 4-smoothness. The full-fledged verification of this proposal will presumably be possible within the scope of future quantum gravity theory research.  相似文献

In this letter, the most common quantum Hamiltonian is exploited in order to compare the definite equivalences, corresponding to possible spin values in a lattice gas model, to those in a spin-1 Ising model. Our approach also requires interpolating both results in a p-state clock model, in order to find the hidden symmetries of both under consideration models.  相似文献
