A detailed kinetic study of the substitution behavior of the seven-coordinate [Fe(dapsox)(L)2]ClO4 complex (H(2)dapsox = 2,6-diacetylpyridine-bis(semioxamazide), L = solvent or its deprotonated form) with thiocyanate as a function of the thiocyanate concentration, temperature, and pressure was undertaken in protic (EtOH and acidified EtOH and MeOH) and aprotic (DMSO) organic solvents. The lability and substitution mechanism depend strongly on the selected solvent (i.e., on solvolytic and protolytic processes). In the case of alcoholic solutions, substitution of both solvent molecules by thiocyanate could be observed, whereas in DMSO only one substitution step occurred. For both substitution steps, [Fe(dapsox)(L)2]ClO4 shows similar mechanistic behavior in methanol and ethanol, which is best reflected by the values of the activation volumes (MeOH DeltaV(I) = +15.0 +/- 0.3 cm(3) mol(-1), DeltaV(II) = +12.0 +/- 0.2 cm(3) mol(-1); EtOH DeltaV(I) = +15.8 +/- 0.7 cm(3) mol(-1), DeltaV(II) = +11.1 +/- 0.5 cm(3) mol(-1)). On the basis of the reported activation parameters, a dissociative (D) mechanism for the first substitution step and a D or dissociative interchange (I(d)) mechanism for the second substitution step are suggested for the reaction in MeOH and EtOH. This is consistent with the predominant existence of alcoxo [Fe(dapsox)(ROH)(OR)] species in alcoholic solutions. In comparison, the activation parameters for the substitution of the aqua-hydroxo [Fe(dapsox)(H2O)(OH)] complex by thiocyanate at pH 5.1 in MES were determined to be DeltaH = 72 +/- 3 kJ mol(-1), DeltaS = +38 +/- 11 J K(-1) mol(-1), and DeltaV = -3.0 +/- 0.1 cm(3) mol(-1), and the operation of a dissociative interchange mechanism was suggested, taking the effect of pressure on the employed buffer into account. The addition of triflic acid to the alcoholic solutions ([HOTf] = 10(-3) and 10(-2) M to MeOH and EtOH, respectively) resulted in a drastic changeover in mechanism for the first substitution step, for which an associative interchange (Ia) mechanism is suggested, on the basis of the activation parameters obtained for both the forward and reverse reactions and the corresponding volume profile. The second substitution step remained to proceed through an I(d) or D mechanism (acidified MeOH DeltaV(II) = +9.2 +/- 0.2 cm(3) mol(-1); acidified EtOH DeltaV(II) = +10.2 +/- 0.2 cm(3) mol(-1)). The first substitution reaction in DMSO was found to be slowed by several orders of magnitude and to follow an associative interchange mechanism (DeltaS = -50 +/- 9 J K(-1) mol(-1), DeltaV(I) = -1.0 +/- 0.5 cm(3) mol(-1)), making DMSO a suitable solvent for monitoring substitution processes that are extremely fast in aqueous solution.  相似文献

The effect of temperature and pressure on the water exchange reaction of [Fe(II)(NTA)(H2O)2](-) and [Fe(II)(BADA)(H2O)2](-) (NTA = nitrilotriacetate; BADA = beta-alanindiacetate) was studied by 17O NMR spectroscopy. The [Fe(II)(NTA)(H2O)2](-) complex showed a water exchange rate constant, k(ex), of (3.1 +/- 0.4) x 10(6) s(-1) at 298.2 K and ambient pressure. The activation parameters DeltaH( not equal), DeltaS( not equal) and DeltaV( not equal) for the observed reaction are 43.4 +/- 2.6 kJ mol(-1), + 25 +/- 9 J K(-1) mol(-1) and + 13.2 +/- 0.6 cm(3) mol(-1), respectively. For [Fe(II)(BADA)(H2O)2](-), the water exchange reaction is faster than for the [Fe(II)(NTA)(H2O)2](-) complex with k(ex) = (7.4 +/- 0.4) x 10(6) s(-1) at 298.2 K and ambient pressure. The activation parameters DeltaH( not equal), DeltaS( not equal) and DeltaV( not equal) for the water exchange reaction are 40.3 +/- 2.5 kJ mol(-1), + 22 +/- 9 J K(-1) mol(-1) and + 13.3 +/- 0.8 cm(3) mol(-1), respectively. The effect of pressure on the exchange rate constant is large and very similar for both systems, and the numerical values for DeltaV( not equal) suggest in both cases a limiting dissociative (D) mechanism for the water exchange process.  相似文献

The kinetics of the unusually fast reaction of cis- and trans-[Ru(terpy)(NH3)2Cl]2+ (with respect to NH3; terpy=2,2':6',2"-terpyridine) with NO was studied in acidic aqueous solution. The multistep reaction pathway observed for both isomers includes a rapid and reversible formation of an intermediate Ru(III)-NO complex in the first reaction step, for which the rate and activation parameters are in good agreement with an associative substitution behavior of the Ru(III) center (cis isomer, k1=618 +/- 2 M(-1) s(-1), DeltaH(++) = 38 +/- 3 kJ mol(-1), DeltaS(++) = -63 +/- 8 J K(-1) mol(-1), DeltaV(++) = -17.5 +/- 0.8 cm3 mol(-1); k -1 = 0.097 +/- 0.001 s(-1), DeltaH(++) = 27 +/- 8 kJ mol(-1), DeltaS(++) = -173 +/- 28 J K(-1) mol(-1), DeltaV(++) = -17.6 +/- 0.5 cm3 mol(-1); trans isomer, k1 = 1637 +/- 11 M(-1) s(-1), DeltaH(++) = 34 +/- 3 kJ mol(-1), DeltaS(++) = -69 +/-11 J K(-1) mol(-1), DeltaV(++) = -20 +/- 2 cm3 mol(-1); k(-1)=0.47 +/- 0.08 s(-1), DeltaH(++)=39 +/- 5 kJ mol(-1), DeltaS(++) = -121 +/-18 J K(-1) mol(-1), DeltaV(++) = -18.5 +/- 0.4 cm3 mol(-1) at 25 degrees C). The subsequent electron transfer step to form Ru(II)-NO+ occurs spontaneously for the trans isomer, followed by a slow nitrosyl to nitrite conversion, whereas for the cis isomer the reduction of the Ru(III) center is induced by the coordination of an additional NO molecule (cis isomer, k2=51.3 +/- 0.3 M(-1) s(-1), DeltaH(++) = 46 +/- 2 kJ mol(-1), DeltaS(++) = -69 +/- 5 J K(-1) mol(-1), DeltaV(++) = -22.6 +/- 0.2 cm3 mol(-1) at 45 degrees C). The final reaction step involves a slow aquation process for both isomers, which is interpreted in terms of a dissociative substitution mechanism (cis isomer, DeltaV(++) = +23.5 +/- 1.2 cm3 mol(-1); trans isomer, DeltaV(++) = +20.9 +/- 0.4 cm3 mol(-1) at 55 degrees C) that produces two different reaction products, viz. [Ru(terpy)(NH3)(H2O)NO]3+ (product of the cis isomer) and trans-[Ru(terpy)(NH3)2(H2O)]2+. The pi-acceptor properties of the tridentate N-donor chelate (terpy) predominantly control the overall reaction pattern.  相似文献

Water exchange from the oxo-centered rhodium(III) trimer, [Rh3(mu3-O)(mu-O2CCH3)6(OH2)3]+, was investigated using variable-temperature (272.8-281.6 K) and variable-pressure (0.1-200 MPa) 17O NMR spectroscopy. The exchange reaction was also monitored at three different acidities (pH = 1.8, 2.9, and 5.7) in which the molecule is in the fully protonated form (pKa = 8.3 (+/-0.2), I = 0.1 M, T = 298 K). The temperature dependence of the pseudo-first-order rate coefficient for water exchange yields the following kinetic parameters: k(ex)298 = 5 x 10(-3) s(-1), deltaH(double dagger) = 99 (+/-3) kJ mol(-1), and deltaS(double dagger) = 43 (+/-10) J K(-1) mol(-1). The enhanced reactivity of the terminal waters, some 6 orders of magnitude faster than water exchange from Rh(H2O)6(3+), is likely due to trans-labilization from the central oxide ion. Also, another contributing factor is the low average charge on the metal ions (+0.33/Rh). Variation of reaction rate with pressure results in a deltaV(double dagger) = +5.3 (+/-0.4) cm3 mol(-1), indicative of an interchange-dissociative (I(d)) pathway. These results are consistent with those published by Sasaki et al. who proposed that water substitution from rhodium(III) and ruthenium(III) oxo-centered trimers follows a dissociative mechanism based on highly positive activation parameters (Sasaki, Y.; Nagasawa, A.; Tokiwa-Yamanoto, A.; Ito, T. Inorg. Chim. Acta 1993, 212, 175-182).  相似文献

Paramagnetic effects on the relaxation rate and shift difference of the (17)O nucleus of bulk water enable the study of water exchange mechanisms on transition metal complexes by variable temperature and variable pressure NMR. The water exchange kinetics of [Mn(II)(edta)(H2O)](2-) (CN 7, hexacoordinated edta) was reinvestigated and complemented by variable pressure NMR data. The results revealed a rapid water exchange reaction for the [Mn(II)(edta)(H2O)](2-) complex with a rate constant of k(ex) = (4.1 +/- 0.4) x 10(8) s(-1) at 298.2 K and ambient pressure. The activation parameters DeltaH(double dagger), DeltaS(double dagger), and DeltaV(double dagger) are 36.6 +/- 0.8 kJ mol(-1), +43 +/- 3 J K(-1) mol(-1), and +3.4 +/- 0.2 cm(3) mol(-1), which are in line with a dissociatively activated interchange (I(d)) mechanism. To analyze the structural influence of the chelate, the investigation was complemented by studies on complexes of the edta-related tmdta (trimethylenediaminetetraacetate) chelate. The kinetic parameters for [Fe(II)(tmdta)(H2O)](2-) are k(ex) = (5.5 +/- 0.5) x 10(6) s(-1) at 298.2 K, DeltaH(double dagger) = 43 +/- 3 kJ mol(-1), DeltaS(double dagger) = +30 +/- 13 J K(-1) mol(-1), and DeltaV(double dagger) = +15.7 +/- 1.5 cm(3) mol(-1), and those for [Mn(II)(tmdta)(H2O)](2-) are k(ex) = (1.3 +/- 0.1) x 10(8) s(-1) at 298.2 K, DeltaH(double dagger) = 37.2 +/- 0.8 kJ mol(-1), DeltaS(double dagger) = +35 +/- 3 J K(-1) mol(-1), and DeltaV(double dagger) = +8.7 +/- 0.6 cm(3) mol(-1). The water containing species, [Fe(III)(tmdta)(H2O)](-) with a fraction of 0.2, is in equilibrium with the water-free hexa-coordinate form, [Fe(III)(tmdta)](-). The kinetic parameters for [Fe(III)(tmdta)(H2O)](-) are k(ex) = (1.9 +/- 0.8) x 10(7) s(-1) at 298.2 K, DeltaH(double dagger) = 42 +/- 3 kJ mol(-1), DeltaS(double dagger) = +36 +/- 10 J K(-1) mol(-1), and DeltaV(double dagger) = +7.2 +/- 2.7 cm(3) mol(-1). The data for the mentioned tmdta complexes indicate a dissociatively activated exchange mechanism in all cases with a clear relationship between the sterical hindrance that arises from the ligand architecture and mechanistic details of the exchange process for seven-coordinate complexes. The unexpected kinetic and mechanistic behavior of [Ni(II)(edta')(H2O)](2-) and [Ni(II)(tmdta')(H2O)](2-) is accounted for in terms of the different coordination number due to the strong preference for an octahedral coordination environment and thus a coordination equilibrium between the water-free, hexadentate [M(L)](n+) and the aqua-pentadentate forms [M(L')(H2O)](n+) of the Ni(II)-edta complex, which was studied in detail by variable temperature and pressure UV-vis experiments. For [Ni(II)(edta')(H2O)](2-) (CN 6, pentacoordinated edta) a water substitution rate constant of (2.6 +/- 0.2) x 10(5) s(-1) at 298.2 K and ambient pressure was measured, and the activation parameters DeltaH(double dagger), DeltaS(double dagger), and DeltaV(double dagger) were found to be 34 +/- 1 kJ mol(-1), -27 +/- 2 J K(-1) mol(-1), and +1.8 +/- 0.1 cm(3) mol(-1), respectively. For [Ni(II)(tmdta')(H2O)](2-), we found k = (6.4 +/- 1.4) x 10(5) s(-1) at 298.2 K, DeltaH(double dagger) = 22 +/- 4 kJ mol(-1), and DeltaS(double dagger) = -59 +/- 5 J K(-1) mol(-1). The process is referred to as a water substitution instead of a water exchange reaction, since these observations refer to the intramolecular displacement of coordinated water by the carboxylate moiety in a ring-closure reaction.  相似文献

Variable-temperature 17O NMR experiments were conducted on the nanometer-sized Keplerate Mo72Fe30 cluster, with the stoichiometry [Mo72Fe30O252(CH3COO)12[Mo2O7(H2O)]2[H2Mo2O8(H2O)](H2O)91]. approximately 150H2O. This molecule contains on its surface 30 Fe(H2O) groups forming a well-defined icosidodecahedron, and we estimated the rates of exchange of the isolated >FeIII-OH2 waters with bulk aqueous solution. Both longitudinal and transverse 17O-relaxation times were measured, as well as chemical shifts, and these parameters were then fit to the Swift-Connick equations in order to obtain the rate parameters. Correspondingly, we estimate: k(ex)298 = 6.7(+/-0.8) x 106 s-1, which is about a factor of approximately 4 x 104 times larger than the corresponding rate coefficient for the Fe(OH2)63+ ion of k(ex)298 = 1.6 x 102 s-1 (Grant and Jordan, 1981; Inorg. Chem. 20, 55-60) and DeltaH and DeltaS are 26.3 +/- 0.6 kJ mol-1 and -26 +/- 0.9 J mol-1 K-1, respectively. High-pressure 17O NMR experiments were also conducted, but the cluster decomposed slightly under pressure, which precluded confident quantitative estimation of the DeltaV. However, the increase in the reduced transverse-relaxation time with pressure suggests a dissociative character, such as a D or Id mechanism. The enhanced reactivity of waters on the Mo72Fe30 cluster is associated with an increase in the FeIII-OH2 bond length in the solid state of approximately 0.1 A relative to the Fe(OH2)63+ ion, suggesting that a correlation exists between the FeIII-OH2 bond length and k(ex)298. Although there are only few high-spin Fe(III) complexes where both exchange rates and structural data are available, these few seem to support a general correlation.  相似文献

Guest exchange in an M(4)L(6) supramolecular assembly was previously demonstrated to proceed through a nonrupture mechanism in which guests squeeze through apertures in the host structure and not through larger portals created by partial assembly dissociation. Focusing on the [Ga(4)L(6)](12-) assembly [L = 1,5-bis(2',3'-dihydroxybenzamido)naphthalene], the host-guest kinetic behavior of this supramolecular capsule is defined. Guest self-exchange rates at varied temperatures and pressures were measured to determine activation parameters, revealing negative DeltaS and positive DeltaV values [PEt(4)(+): DeltaH = 74(3) kJ mol(-1), DeltaS = -46(6) J mol(-1) K(-1), k(298) = 0.003 s(-)); NEt(4)(+): DeltaH = 69(2) kJ mol(-1), DeltaS = -52(5) J mol(-1) K(-1), k(298) = 0.009 s(-1); NMe(2)Pr(2)(+): DeltaH = 52(2) kJ mol(-1), DeltaS = -56(7) J mol(-1) K(-1), DeltaV = +13(1) cm(3) mol(-1), k(298) = 4.4 s(-1); NPr(4)(+): DeltaH = 42(1) kJ mol(-1), DeltaS = -102(4) J mol(-1) K(-1), DeltaV = +31(2) cm(3) mol(-1), k(298) = 1.4 s(-1)]. In PEt(4)(+) for NEt(4)(+) exchange reactions, egress of the initial guest (G1) is found to be rate determining, with increasing G1 and G2 (the displacing guest) concentrations inhibiting guest exchange. This inhibition is explained by the decreased flexibility of the host imparted by exterior, or exohedral, guest interactions by both the G1 and G2 guests. Blocking the exohedral host sites with high concentrations of the smaller NMe(4)(+) cation (a weak endohedral guest) enhances PEt(4)(+) for NEt(4)(+) guest exchange rates. Finally, guest displacement reactions also demonstrate the sensitivity of guest exchange to thermodynamic endohedral guest binding affinities. When the initial guest (G1) has a weaker affinity for the host, G2 concentration dependence is observed in addition to dependence on the G2 binding strength.  相似文献

The novel organometallic aqua complex [(CO)(3)Mn(H(2)O)(3)](+) (1(+)) was obtained through hydrolysis of the analogous acetone complex. IR [nu(CO) = 2051, 1944 cm(-)(1)] and (17)O NMR spectroscopy revealed the presence of a fac tricarbonyl unit. Potentiometric titrations established that the trimer [(CO)(3)Mn(3)(OH)(4)](-) was the principal condensation product in the pH range >6 prior to slow formation of the tetramer [[(CO)(3)Mn](OH)](4). Water exchange in 1(+), determined by NMR line broadening as k(ex) = 19 +/- 4 s(-)(1) at 298 K, is four orders faster than with the analogous Re complex. The activation volume DeltaV(++) = -4.5 +/- 0.4 cm(3) mol(-1) is indicative of an associatively activated (I(a)) process.  相似文献

Pulsed 355 nm laser excitation of toluene or hexane solutions containing W-L (W = mer,trans-W(CO)3(PCy3)2; PCy3 = tricyclohexylphosphine; L = H2, D2, N2, C2H4, or CH3CN) resulted in the photoejection of ligand L and the formation of W. A combination of nanosecond UV-vis flash photolysis and time-resolved step-scan FTIR (s2-FTIR) spectroscopy was used to spectroscopically characterize the photoproduct, W, and directly measure the rate constants for binding of the ligands L to W to reform W-L under pseudo-first-order conditions. From these data, equilibrium constants for the binding of L to W were estimated. The UV-vis flash photolysis experiments were also performed as a function of pressure in order to determine the activation volumes, DeltaV thermodynamic, for the reaction of W with L. Small activation volumes ranging from -7 to +3 cm3 mol(-1) were obtained, suggesting that despite the crowded W center an interchange mechanism between L and the agostic W...H-C interaction of one of the PCy3 ligands (or a weak interaction with a solvent molecule) at the W center takes place in the transition state. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed at the B3LYP level of theory on W with/without the agostic C-H interaction of the PCy3 ligand and also on the series of model complexes, mer,trans-W(CO)3(PH3)2L (W'-L, where L = H2, N2, C2H4, CO, or n-hexane) in an effort to confirm the infrared spectroscopic assignment of the W-L complexes, to simulate and assign the electronic transitions in the UV-vis spectra, to determine the nature of the HOMO and LUMO of W-L, and to understand the agostic C-H interaction of the ligand vs solvent interaction. Our DFT calculations indicate an entropy effect that favors agostic W...H-C interaction over a solvent sigma C-H interaction by 8-10 kcal mol(-1).  相似文献

The ferriheme protein metmyoglobin (metMb) in buffer solution at physiological pH 7.4 reversibly binds the biomessenger molecule nitric oxide to yield the nitrosyl adduct (metMb(NO)). The kinetics of the association and dissociation processes were investigated by both laser flash photolysis and stopped-flow kinetics techniques at ambient and high pressure, in three laboratories using several different sources of metMb. The activation parameters DeltaH, DeltaS, and DeltaV were calculated from the kinetic effects of varying temperature and hydrostatic pressure. For the "on" reaction of metMb plus NO, reasonable agreement was found between the various techniques with DeltaH(on), DeltaS(on), and DeltaV(on) determined to have the respective values approximately 65 kJ mol(-1), approximately 60 J mol(-1) K(-1), and approximately 20 cm(3) mol(-1). The large and positive DeltaS and DeltaV values are consistent with the operation of a limiting dissociative ligand substitution mechanism whereby dissociation of the H(2)O occupying the sixth distal coordination site of metMb must precede formation of the Fe-NO bond. While the activation enthalpies of the "off" reaction displayed reasonable agreement between the various techniques (ranging from 68 to 83 kJ mol(-1)), poorer agreement was found for the DeltaS(off) values. For this reason, the kinetics for the "off" reaction were determined more directly via NO trapping experiments, which gave the respective activation parameters DeltaH(off) = 76 kJ mol(-1), DeltaS(off) = approximately 41 J mol(-1) K(-1), and DeltaV(off) = 20 cm(3) mol(-1)), again consistent with a limiting dissociative mechanism. These results are discussed in reference to other investigations of the reactions of NO with both model systems and metalloproteins.  相似文献

A cyclic voltammogram of aqueous 0.1 mol dm(-3) triflic acid solutions of the d6 bioxo-capped M-M bonded cluster [Mo3(mu3-O)2(O2CCH3)6(H2O)3]2+ at a glassy carbon electrode at 25 degrees C gives rise to an irreversible 3e- cathodic wave to a d9 Mo(III)3 species at -0.8 V vs. SCE which on the return scan gives rise to two anodic waves at +0.05 V vs. SCE (E(1/2), 1e- reversible to d8 Mo(III)2Mo(IV)) and +0.48 V vs. SCE (2e- irreversible back to d6 Mo(IV)3). The number of electrons passed at each redox wave has been confirmed by redox titration and controlled potential electrolysis which resulted in 90% recovery of [Mo3(mu3-O)2(O2CCH3)6(H2O)3]2+ following electrochemical re-oxidation at +0.8 V. A corresponding CV study of the d8 monoxo-capped W(III)2W(IV) cluster [W3(mu3-O)(O2CCH3)6(H2O)3]2+ gives rise to a reversible 1e- cathodic process at -0.92 V vs. SCE to give the d9 W(III)3 species [W3(mu3-O)(O2CCH3)6(H2O)3]+; the first authentic example of a W(III) complex with coordinated water ligands. However the cluster is too unstable (O2/water sensitive) to allow isolation. Comparisons with the cv study on [Mo3(mu3-O)2(O2CCH3)6(H2O)3]2+ suggest irreversible reduction of this complex to monoxo-capped [Mo(III)3(mu3-O)(O2CCH3)6(H2O)3]+ followed by reversible oxidation to its d8 counterpart [Mo3(mu3-O)(O2CCH3)6(H2O)3]2+ (Mo(III)2Mo(IV)) and finally irreversible oxidation back to the starting bioxo-capped cluster. Exposing the d9 Mo(III)3 cluster to air (O2) however gives a different final product with evidence of break up of the acetate bridged framework. Corresponding redox processes on d6 [W3(mu3-O)2(O2CCH3)6(H2O)3]2+ are too cathodic to allow similar generation of the monoxo-capped W(III)3 and W(III)2W(IV) clusters at the electrode surface.  相似文献

A series of cyclobutanes substituted 1,2- by polyenes of increasing radical-stabilizing power has been investigated to test the proposition that stabilization energies obtained independently from apposite, cis,trans geometric isomerizations can be successfully transferred to another system, in this paper, cyclobutanes. The first member of the series, 3-methylenecyclohexene (1), is photodimerized to anti- and syn-dispiro[5.0.5.2]tetradeca-1,8-dienes (anti-2 and syn-2), which undergo stereomutation (stereochemical interconversion) and cycloreversion (fragmentation) to 1 when heated in the range 72.1-118.2 degrees C: anti-2 --> syn-2, DeltaH() = 30.3 kcal mol(-)(1), DeltaS() = 0.2 cal mol(-)(1) K(-)(1); anti-2 --> 1, DeltaH() = 32.8 kcal mol(-)(1), DeltaS() = +8.0 cal mol(-)(1) K(-)(1). Agreement with an enthalpy of activation predicted by assuming full allylic stabilization in a hypothetical diradical intermediate is good. An example of further activation by a radical-stabilizing group is manifested by the approximately 20 000-fold acceleration in rate shown by the system 1-phenyl-3-methylenecyclohexene (3) and anti- and syn-2,9-diphenyldispiro[5.0.5.2]tetradeca-1,8-dienes (anti-4 and syn-4), measured, however, only at 43.6 degrees C. In both systems 2 and 4, volumes of activation for stereochemical interconversion and cycloreversion have been determined and found to be essentially identical within experimental uncertainties, DeltaV() = +10.2 +/- 1.0 and +12.6 +/- 1.4 cm(3) mol(-)(1), respectively (weighted means). These strongly positive values are consistent with the rate-determining step being the first bond-breaking, while the near identity of the volumes of activation argues against the indispensable second bond-breaking being a determining factor in fragmentation. These results are consistent with the theoretically based construct of Charles Doubleday for the paradigm, cyclobutane, in which the ratio between two channels of exit from a "generalized common biradical" is not controlled by enthalpy and entropy, as in the transition state model, but by entropy alone.  相似文献

Pressure dependent rate constants and volumes of activation for stereomutational interconversions of the cyclobutanes, anti- and syn-2,9-dicyanodispiro[5.0.5.2]tetradeca-1,8-dienes (anti-6 and syn-6), and for their fragmentation to 1-cyano-3-methylenecyclohexene (5) have been determined. Although fragmentations might have been expected to have larger and thus more positive volumes of activation than stereomutation, both processes have essentially identical volumes of activation within experimental uncertainties at 50.1 degrees C over the pressure range, 1-3000 bar: DeltaV(not equal) = (+7.4 to +9.9) +/- 2.0 cm3 mol(-1). While these positive values are consistent with the rate of entry into the hypothetical caldera being determined by breaking the weakest bond in the cyclobutanes, the insensitivity of the product-determining exit channels argues against the obligatory second bond-breaking being a significant factor in fragmentation.  相似文献

Solvent exchange on trans-[Os(en)(2)(eta(2)-H(2))S](2+) (S = H(2)O, CH(3)CN) has been studied in neat solvent as a function of temperature and pressure by (17)O NMR line-broadening and isotopic labeling experiments (S = H(2)O) and by (1)H NMR isotopic labeling experiments (S = CH(3)CN). Rate constants and activation parameters are as follows for S = H(2)O and CH(3)CN, respectively: k(ex)(298) = 1.59 +/- 0.04 and (2.74 +/- 0.03) x 10(-)(4) s(-)(1); DeltaH() = 72.4 +/- 0.5 and 98.0 +/- 1.4 kJ mol(-)(1); DeltaS() = +1.7 +/- 1.8 and +15.6 +/- 4.9 J mol(-)(1) K(-)(1); DeltaV() = -1.5 +/- 1.0 and -0.5 +/- 1.0 cm(3) mol(-)(1). The present investigation of solvent exchange when compared with a previous study on substitution reactions on the same complexes leads to the conclusion that substitution reactions on these compounds undergo an interchange dissociative, I(d), or dissociative, D, reaction mechanism, where solvent dissociation is the rate-limiting step.  相似文献

The structure, energetics, and vibrational spectra of the (HXeCN)2 dimer were investigated at the CCSD(T), MP2 and B3LYP levels. Such properties of the (HXeCN)3 trimer and (HXeCN)4 tetramer were investigated at the B3LYP level. The dimer, trimer, and tetramer were predicted to have a C2h, C2v, and D2d structure, respectively. In all of these oligomers, the N?Xe intermonomeric interaction is the most important one for holding the monomers together. Included with the ZPVE and BSSE, the stabilization energy of the dimer is 12.36 kcal/mol at the CCSD(T) level, while those of the dimer, trimer, and tetramer are 10.42, 18.23, and 31.34 kcal/mol, respectively, at the B3LYP level. At the B3LYP level, with respect to those of the isolated monomer, the C-Xe and Xe-H asymmetric stretching frequencies are shifted by -11.2 and +128.0 cm(-1) for the dimer, -51.6, +220.7 and -11.5, +96.6 cm(-1) for the trimer, and -14.1 and +201.8 cm(-1) for the tetramer.  相似文献

Proton exchange from the bound to the bulk waters on the oxo-centered rhodium(III) trimer, [Rh(3)(micro(3)-O)(micro-O(2)CCH(3))(6)(OH(2))(3)](+)(abbreviated as Rh(3)(+)), was investigated over the temperature range of 219.1-313.9 K using a (1)H NMR line-broadening technique. By solving the modified Bloch equations for a two-site chemical exchange, lifetimes (tau) for proton transfer at pH = 2.7, 3.6, and 7.0 ([Rh(3)(+)]= 26 mM, T= 298 K) were determined to be 0.3 (+/-.08) ms, 2 (+/-0.3) ms, and 0.2 (+/-0.2) ms, respectively. From the temperature dependence of the rate, the activation parameters were determined to be DeltaH(++)= 16.2 (+/-0.5) kJ mol(-1) and DeltaS(++)=- 123 (+/-2) J mol(-1) K(-1), DeltaH(++)= 14.9 (+/-0.5) kJ mol(-1) and DeltaS(++)=- 141 (+/-2) J mol(-1) K(-1), and DeltaH(++)= 45 (+/-2) kJ mol(-1) and DeltaS(++)=- 22 (+/-5) J mol(-1) K(-1) for pH = 2.7, 3.6 and 7.0, respectively. All results are reported for a mixed solvent system [acetone : 250 mM NaClO(4)(aq)(3:1)], which was necessary to depress the freezing point of the solution so that the (1)H NMR signal due to bound water could be observed. The pK(a) of Rh(3)(+) was measured to be 8.9 (+/-0.2) in the mixed solvent, which is near the pK(a) for an aqueous solution (8.3 (+/-0.2)). Surprisingly, the lifetimes for protons on Rh(3)(+) are close to those observed for the Rh(OH(2))(6)(3+) ion, in spite of the considerable difference in structure, Br?nsted acidity of the bound waters and average charge on the metal ion.  相似文献

The water exchange process on fac-[(CO)3Mn(H2O)3]+ and fac-[(CO)3Tc(H2O)3]+ was kinetically investigated by 17O NMR as a function of the acidity, temperature, and pressure. Up to pH 6.3 and 4.4, respectively, the exchange rate is not affected by the acidity, thus demonstrating that the contribution of the monohydroxo species fac-[(CO)3M(OH)(H2O)2] is not significant, which correlates well with a higher pKa for these complexes compared to the homologue fac-[(CO)3Re(H2O)3]+ complex. The water exchange rate K298ex/s(-1) (DeltaHex double dagger/kJ mol(-1); DeltaSex double dagger/J mol(-1) K(-1); DeltaV double dagger/cm3 mol-1) decreases down group 7 from Mn to Tc and Re: 23 (72.5; +24.4; +7.1) > 0.49 (78.3; +11.7; +3.8) > 5.4 x 10(-3) (90.3; +14.5; -). For the Mn complex only, an O exchange on the carbonyl ligand could be measured (K338co = 4.3 x 10(-6) s(-1)), which is several orders of magnitude slower than the water exchange. In the case of the Tc complex, the coupling between 17O (I = 5/2) and 99Tc (I = 9/2) nuclear spins has been observed (1J99Tc,17O = 80 +/- 5 Hz). The substitution of water in fac-[(CO)3M(H2O)3]+ by dimethyl sulfide (DMS) is slightly faster than that by CH3CN: 3 times faster for Mn, 1.5 times faster for Tc, and 1.2 times faster for Re. The pressure dependence behavior is different for Mn and Re. For Mn, the change in volume to reach the transition state is always clearly positive (water exchange, CH3CN, DMS), indicating an Id mechanism. In the case of Re, an Id/Ia changeover is assigned on the basis of reaction profiles with a strong volume maximum for pyrazine and a minimum for DMS as the entering ligand.  相似文献

The equilibria and kinetics of substitution of the 5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole at the alpha site of beta-(N-methylimidazolyl)cobalamin by N-methylimidazole have been investigated, and the product, bis(N-methylimidazolyl)cobalamin, has been characterized by visible and 1H NMR spectroscopies. The equilibrium constant for (N-MeIm)Cbl+ + N-MeIm right harpoon over left harpoon (N-MeIm)2Cbl+ was determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy (9.6 +/- 0.1 M(-1), 25.0 degrees C, I = 1.5 M (NaClO4)). The observed rate constant for this reaction exhibits an unusual inverse dependence on N-methylimidazole concentration, and it is proposed that substitution occurs via a base-off solvent-bound intermediate. Activation parameters typical for a dissociative ligand substitution mechanism are reported at two different N-MeImT concentrations, 5.00 x 10(-3) M (DeltaH++ = 99 +/- 2 kJ x mol(-1), DeltaS++ = 39 +/- 5 J x mol(-1) x K(-1), DeltaV++ = 15.0 +/- 0.7 cm3 x mol(-1), and 1.00 M (DeltaH++ = 109.4 +/- 0.8 kJ x mol(-1), DeltaS++ = 70 +/- 3 J x mol(-1) x K(-1), DeltaV++ = 16.8 +/- 1.1 cm3 x mol(-1)). According to the proposed mechanism, these parameters correspond to the equation of (N-MeIm)2Cbl+ and the ring-opening reaction of the alpha-DMBI of (N-MeIm)Cbl+ to give the solvent-bound intermediate in both cases, respectively.  相似文献

Cationic complexes of the type fac-[(L(2))Pt(IV)Me(3)(pyr-X)][OTf] (pyr-X = 4-substituted pyridines; L(2) = diphosphine, viz., dppe = bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane and dppbz = o-bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene; OTf = trifluoromethanesulfonate) undergo C-C reductive elimination reactions to form [L(2)Pt(II)Me(pyr-X)][OTf] and ethane. Detailed studies indicate that these reactions proceed by a two-step pathway, viz., initial reversible dissociation of the pyridine ligand from the cationic complex to generate a five-coordinate Pt(IV) intermediate, followed by irreversible concerted C-C bond formation. The reaction is inhibited by pyridine. The highly positive values for DeltaS()(obs) = +180 +/- 30 J K(-1) mol(-1), DeltaH(obs) = 160 +/- 10 kJ mol(-1), and DeltaV()(obs) = +16 +/- 1 cm(3) mol(-1) can be accounted for in terms of significant bond cleavage and/or partial reduction from Pt(IV) to Pt(II) in going from the ground to the transition state. These cationic complexes have provided the first opportunity to carry out detailed studies of C-C reductive elimination from cationic Pt(IV) complexes in a variety of solvents. The absence of a significant solvent effect for this reaction provides strong evidence that the C-C reductive coupling occurs from an unsaturated five-coordinate Pt(IV) intermediate rather than from a six-coordinate Pt(IV) solvento species.  相似文献

The stability and water exchange dynamics of gadolinium (GdIII) complexes are critical characteristics that determine their effectiveness as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A new heteropodal GdIII chelate, [Gd-TREN-bis(6-Me-HOPO)-(TAM-TRI)(H2O)2] (Gd-2), is presented which is based on a hydroxypyridinate (HOPO)-terephthalamide (TAM) ligand design. Thermodynamic equilibrium constants for the acid-base properties and the GdIII complexation strength of TREN-bis(6-Me-HOPO)-(TAM-TRI) (2) were measured by potentiometric and spectrophotometric titration techniques, respectively. The pGd of 2 is 20.6 (pH 7.4, 25 degrees C, I = 0.1 M), indicating that Gd-2 is of more than sufficient thermodynamic stability for in vivo MRI applications. The water exchange rate of Gd-2 (kex = 5.3(+/-0.6) x 107 s-1) was determined by variable temperature 17O NMR and is in the fast exchange regime - ideal for MRI. Variable pressure 17O NMR was used to determine the volume of activation (DeltaV) of Gd-2. DeltaV for Gd-2 is -5 cm3 mol-1, indicative of an interchange associative (Ia) water exchange mechanism. The results reported herein are important as they provide insight into the factors influencing high stability and fast water exchange in the HOPO series of complexes, potentially future clinical contrast agents.  相似文献
