Performance of Nonlinear Vibration Absorbers for Multi-Degrees-of-Freedom Systems Using Nonlinear Normal Modes 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Linear vibration absorbers are a valuable tool used to suppressvibrations due to harmonic excitation in structural systems. Whilelimited evaluation of the performance of nonlinear vibrationabsorbers for nonlinear structures exists in the literature forsingle mode structures, none exists for multi-mode structures.Consequently, nonlinear multiple-degrees-of-freedom structures areevaluated. The theory of nonlinear normal modes is extended toinclude consideration of modal damping, excitation and smalllinear coupling, allowing estimation of vibration absorberperformance. The dynamics of the N +1-degrees-of-freedom system areshown to reduce to those of a two-degrees-of-freedom system on afour-dimensional nonlinear modal manifold, thereby simplifying theanalysis. Quantitative agreement is shown to require a higher-order model which is recommended for future investigation. 相似文献

Reduced order models for the dynamics of geometrically exact planar rods are derived by projecting the nonlinear equations of motion onto a subspace spanned by a set of proper orthogonal modes. These optimal modes are identified by a proper orthogonal decomposition processing of high-resolution finite element dynamics. A three-degree-of-freedom reduced system is derived to study distinct categories of motions dominated by a single POD mode. The modal analysis of the reduced system characterizes in a unique fashion for these motions, since its linear natural frequencies are near to the natural frequencies of the full-order system. For free motions characterized by a single POD mode, the eigen-vector matrix of the derived reduced system coincides with the principal POD-directions. This property reflects the existence of a normal mode of vibration, which appears to be close to a slow invariant manifold. Its shape is captured by that of the dominant POD mode. The modal analysis of the POD-based reduced order system provides a potentially valuable tool to characterize the spatio-temporal complexity of the dynamics in order to elucidate connections between proper orthogonal modes and nonlinear normal modes of vibration. 相似文献

For any sufficiently small perturbation of a nonuniform exponential dichotomy, we show that there exist invariant stable manifolds as regular as the dynamics. We also consider the
general case of a nonautonomous dynamics defined by the composition of a sequence of maps. The proof is based on a geometric
argument that avoids any lengthy computations involving the higher order derivatives. In addition, we describe how the invariant
manifolds vary with the dynamics.

Non-linear systems are here tackled in a manner directly inherited from linear ones, that is, by using proper normal modes of motion. These are defined in terms of invariant manifolds in the system's phase space, on which the uncoupled system dynamics can be studied. Two different methodologies which were previously developed to derive the non-linear normal modes of continuous systems — one based on a purely continuous approach, and one based on a discretized approach to which the theory developed for discrete systems can be applied-are simultaneously applied to the same study case-an Euler-Bernoulli beam constrained by a non-linear spring-and compared as regards accuracy and reliability. Numerical simulations of pure non-linear modal motions are performed using these approaches, and compared to simulations of equations obtained by a classical projection onto the linear modes. The invariance properties of the non-linear normal modes are demonstrated, and it is also found that, for a pure non-linear modal motion, the invariant manifold approach achieves the same accuracy as that obtained using several linear normal modes, but with significantly reduced computational cost. This is mainly due to the possibility of obtaining high-order accuracy in the dynamics by solving only one non-linear ordinary differential equation. 相似文献

A nonlinear modal analysis approach based on the invariant manifoldmethod proposed earlier by Boivin et al. [10] is applied in this paperto perform the dynamic analysis of a micro switch. The micro switch ismodeled as a clamped-clamped microbeam subjected to a transverseelectrostatic force. Two kinds of nonlinearities are encountered in thenonlinear system: geometric nonlinearity of the microbeam associatedwith large deflection, and nonlinear coupling between two energydomains. Using Galerkin method, the nonlinear partial differentialgoverning equation is decoupled into a set of nonlinear ordinarydifferential equations. Based on the invariant manifold method, theassociated nonlinear modal shapes, and modal motion governing equationsare obtained. The equation of motion restricted to these manifolds,which provide the dynamics of the associated normal modes, are solved bythe approach of nonlinear normal forms. Nonlinearities and the pull-inphenomena are examined. The numerical results are compared with thoseobtained from the finite difference method. Bifurcations of Nonlinear Normal Modes of Linear Oscillator with Strongly Nonlinear Damped Attachment 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Linear oscillator coupled to damped strongly nonlinear attachment with small mass is considered as a model design for nonlinear energy sink (NES). Damped nonlinear normal modes of the system are considered for the case of 1:1 resonance by combining the invariant manifold approach and multiple scales expansion. Special asymptotical structure of the model allows a clear distinction between three time scales. These time scales correspond to fast vibrations, evolution of the system toward the nonlinear normal mode and time evolution of the invariant manifold, respectively. Time evolution of the invariant manifold may be accompanied by bifurcations, depending on the exact potential of the nonlinear spring and value of the damping coefficient. Passage of the invariant manifold through bifurcations may bring about destruction of the resonance regime and essential gain in the energy dissipation rate. 相似文献

In this paper we study the existence of invariant manifolds for a special type of nonautonomous systems which arise in the study of discretization methods. According to [10], a one-step scheme of step-size for an autonomous system can be interpreted as the -flow of a perturbed nonautonomous system. The perturbation is rapidly forced in the sense that it is periodic with respect to time with period . Assuming a saddle node for the autonomous system, we prove that these rapidly forced perturbations have center manifolds which exist in a uniform neighborhood and which converge to a center manifold of the autonomous system as tends to zero. Our results are applied to obtain a smooth continuation as well as estimates of the well known center manifolds for one-step schemes. They also form the basis for studying saddle-node homoclinic orbits under discretization. 相似文献

This paper investigates large amplitude multi-mode free vibration andrandom response of thin cylindrical panels of rectangular planform usinga finite element modal formulation. A thin laminated composite doublycurved element is developed. The system equation in structural nodal DOFis transformed into the modal coordinates by the using the modes of theunderlying linear system. The nonlinear stiffness matrices are alsotransformed into nonlinear modal stiffness matrices. Numericalintegration is employed to determine free vibration and random response.Single-mode free vibration results are compared with existing classicalanalytical solutions to validate the nonlinear modal formulation.Nonlinear random analysis results for cylindrical panels have shown thatthe root mean square of panel deflections could be larger than thoseobtained using the linear structure theory. This paper describes a methodology for developing reduced-order dynamic models of structural systems that are composed of an assembly of nonlinear component structures. The approach is a nonlinear extension of the fixed-interface component mode synthesis (CMS) technique developed for linear structures by Hurty and modified by Craig and Bampton. Specifically, the case of nonlinear substructures is handled by using fixed-interface nonlinear normal modes (NNMs). These normal modes are constructed for the various substructures using an invariant manifold approach, and are then coupled through the traditional linear constraint modes (i.e., the static deformation shapes produced by unit interface displacements). A class of systems is used to demonstrate the concept and show the effectiveness of the proposed procedure. Simulation results show that the reduced-order model (ROM) obtained from the proposed procedure outperforms the ROM obtained from the classical fixed-interface linear CMS approach as applied to a nonlinear structure. The nonlinear dynamics of ships and floating offshore platforms hasattracted much attention over the last several years. However the topicof multiple-degrees-of-freedom systems has almost been completely ignoredwith very few exceptions. This is probably due to the complexity ofanalyzing strongly nonlinear and coupled systems. It turns out thatcoupling may be particularly important for certain critical dynamicssuch as the dynamics of a floating offshore platform about its diagonalaxis. In a previous work, Kota et al. [1] applied the recently developed nonlinearnormal mode technique to analyze the coupled nonlinear dynamics of afloating offshore platform. Although this previous work was restrictedto unforced and undamped systems, in this work a comparison of the twoalternative nonlinear normal mode analysis techniques was completed.Considering the relative practical importance of damping versus externalforcing for this system, in the present work, we utilize just one of thetwo major techniques available [2] to analyze damped multiple-degrees-of-freedom nonlinear dynamics. Specifically, we investigate the effect ofnonlinearity, and non-proportionate damping. Our results show that thistechnique allows one to simply consider the effect of nonlinearity andgeneral damping on the resulting normal modes.
