The angular distributions of sequential fission fragments have been measured for the reactions of 40Ar with 197Au and 238U as a function of reaction Q-value and charge transfer. These angular, distributions are used to study the angular momentum and alignment of the deep-inelastic products which undergo fission. All of the fission fragment angular distributions are strongly focused into the plane defined by the beam and the projectile-like fragment velocity vectors. The in-plane angular distributions from reactions with uranium are isotropic for small energy losses and become anisotropic as the energy loss increases. For large negative Q-values, the in-plane anisotropy increases as the deep-inelastic products become more symmetric. The variation of the in-plane anisotropy with mass asymmetry for the two systems in this work was compared to a compilation of previous work and a consistent pattern was found. These alignment data are compared to equilibrium statistical calculations.  相似文献

Fragment angular distributions in fission is one of the oldest and well understood aspects of fission theory. However, recent heavy ion-induced fission and fission-like reactions have added a new dimension to this problem. We review here our present understanding of the fragment angular distribution theory in fission and fission-like reactions.  相似文献

The angular distributions of fragments originating from the binary decay of oriented spherical and deformed nuclei are investigated with allowance for correct transformation properties of wave functions under time inversion. It is shown that, as in the case of protonic decay, the adiabatic approximation for collective rotational degrees of freedom of the systems under investigation is inapplicable in describing the angular distributions of fragments of the deep-subbarrier alpha and cluster decays of nuclei. It is demonstrated that this approximation is justified in describing spontaneous and induced low-energy nuclear fission. The dependence of partial fission widths on the orientation of intrinsic axes, spins, and projections of spins and relative orbital angular momenta of fission fragments is analyzed by using the formalism of the unified theory of nuclear reactions and the theory of open Fermi systems. It is shown that the adiabatic approximation leads to the coherent interference between the wave functions for the relative motion of fragments, whereby the universal angular distributions of fission fragments of oriented nuclei is formed. Deviations from the A. Bohr formula are investigated for these distributions.  相似文献

On the basis of a generalization of integral formulas for nuclear-decay widths to the three-body case, the spontaneous and the low-energy induced ternary fission of nuclei are investigated by using the adiabatic approximation. The properties of energy distributions, of partial fission widths, and of the angular distributions of fission fragments are analyzed for the case of ternary fission. Conditions are found under which the angular distributions of two heavy fragments originating from ternary fission are similar to the analogous distributions of fragments originating from binary fission. The features of angular distributions are investigated, along with the parities and angular momenta of the third (light) ternary-fission fragment.  相似文献

Differential cross sections for reactions of the true ternary fission of nuclei that was induced by cold polarized neutrons were constructed with allowance of the effect that Coriolis interaction and the interference between fission amplitudes of neutron resonances excited in fissile nuclei upon incidentneutron capture by target nuclei exerted on angular distributions of prescission third particles (alpha particles, neutrons, or photons). It is shown that T -odd TRI- and ROT-type asymmetries for prescission alpha particles are associated with, respectively, the odd and even components of the Coriolis interaction-perturbed amplitude of angular distributions of particles belonging to the types indicated above. These asymmetries have angular distributions differing from each other and stemming from a nontrivial dependence of these components on the neutron-resonance spins J s and their projections K s onto the symmetry axis of the nucleus involved. It is shown that angular distributions of prescission photons and neutrons from reactions of the ternary fission of nuclei that is induced by cold polarized neutrons are determined by the effect of Coriolis forces exclusively. Therefore, the emerging T-odd asymmetries have a character of a ROT-type asymmetry and are universal for all target nuclei.  相似文献

The angular distributions of fragments originating from the binary fission of odd and odd-odd nuclei capable of undergoing spontaneous fission that are polarized by a strong magnetic field at ultralow temperatures and from the low-energy photofission of even-even nuclei that is induced by dipole and quadrupole photons are investigated. It is shown that the deviations of these angular distributions from those that are obtained on the basis of the A. Bohr formula make it possible to estimate the maximum relative orbital angular momentum of fission fragments, this estimate providing important information about the relative orientation of the fragment spins. The angular distributions of fragments originating from subthreshold fission are analyzed for the case of the 238U nucleus. A comparison of the resulting angular distributions with their experimental counterparts leads to the conclusion that the maximum relative orbital angular momentum of binary-fission fragments exceeds 20, the fragment spins having predominantly a parallel orientation. The possibility is considered for performing an experiment aimed at measuring the angular distributions of fragments of the spontaneous fission of polarized nuclei in order to determine both the spins of such nuclei and the maximum values of the relative orbital angular momenta of fission fragments.  相似文献

The fission fragment angular distributions from reactions of 140-MeV4He ions with238U,209Bi and197Au have been studied. From the anisotropies in the angular distributions, values for? eff, the effective moment of inertia at the fission saddle point, have been estimated and compared with results obtained at lower bombarding energies. The derivation of? eff values has included corrections for the effects of incomplete fusion mechanisms on the orbital angular momentum distribution of the fissioning nuclei and for neutron evaporation prior to fission. The results are also compared with heavy-ion-induced fission data for systems of similar fissility. Also, examination of the forward-backward symmetry of the238U angular distribution substantiates other results which show that the fraction of fission reactions which follow complete fusion of the target and projectile is less than 0.5 for 140-MeV4He-ion bombardment of238U.  相似文献

Systematic studies of heavy-ion induced fission reactions at near-barrier energies carried out in the last decade have brought out many interesting aspects of fission process in general. The recent experimental findings which show dependence of fission fragment angular distributions on entrance channel, shape, size and spin of the interacting nuclei and shell closure of the intermediate compound nucleus are summarised in the present paper.  相似文献

Fragment angular distributions in heavy ion-induced fission reactions have been analysed in terms of a two component model—fission following compound nucleus formation and fast fission events. It is seen that, contrary to the general assumption, fast fission competes with compound nucleus fission even when the composite system is formed with a spin less than the rotating liquid drop model limit for vanishing fission barrier.  相似文献

A dynamical model of fission fragment angular distributions is developed. The experimental data on the angular anisotropy of fission fragments is analyzed for the 16O + 208Pb, 232Th, 238U, and 248Cm reactions at energies of the incident 16O ions ranging from 90 to 160 MeV. This analysis allows us to extract the relaxation time for the tilting mode. It was also demonstrated that the angular distributions are sensitive to the deformation dependence of the nuclear friction.

Recent developments in the study of fission and fission-like reactions are briefly reviewed. After a brief introduction of some of the important features of the fission process, binary fission and fission-like processes in heavy ion-induced reactions are discussed. It is shown that studies of the fission fragment angular distributions which provide a way to determine relative contributions of compound nucleus fission and non-equilibrium fission-like events in heavy ion-induced fission have proved to be quite valuable in investigating the very shortK-equilibration times of the order of 10−20 s involved in the nuclear dynamics of the dinuclear complex on its way to compound nucleus formation following nucleus-nucleus collision.  相似文献

Formation of angular distributions of fission fragments for the 16O + 232Th and 12C + 235,236U reactions has been analyzed within a dynamic approach. In this approach, the component of the total angular momentum along the fission axis K is considered as a fluctuating quantity and the corresponding relaxation time is assumed to be the main parameter controlling the evolution of this mode. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the effect of initial distributions over K (formed during fusion) on the angular distribution of fission fragments of nuclei having fission barriers comparable with the nuclear temperatures.  相似文献

The concept of transition fission states, which was successfully used to describe the angular distributions of fragments for the spontaneous and low-energy induced fission of axisymmetric nuclei, proves to be correct if the spin projection onto the symmetry axis of a fissile nucleus is an integral of the motion for the external region from the descent of the fissile nucleus from the external fission barrier to the scission point. Upon heating a fissile nucleus in this region to temperatures of T ≈ 1 MeV (this is predicted by many theoretical models of the fission process), the Coriolis interaction uniformly mixes the possible projections of the fissile-nucleus spin for the case of low spin values, this leading to the loss of memory about transition fission states in the asymptotic region where the angular distributions of fragments are formed. Within quantum-mechanical fission theory, which takes into account deviations from A. Bohr’s formula, the angular distributions of fragments are calculated for spontaneously fissile nuclei aligned by an external magnetic field at ultralow temperatures, and it is shown that an analysis of experimental angular distributions of fragments would make it possible to solve the problem of spin-projection conservation for fissile nuclei in the external region.  相似文献

Double-differential emission distributions W(B,Ex) in angle 8 and energy Ex of prompt x-rays released in binary and light charged particle (LCP) accompanied fission of 252-Cf have been measured. The x-ray anisotropies are rather similar for both fission modes but the shapes of the angular distributions differ considerably. The maxima of the angular distributions are shifted from zero degree in the binary mode to 8≈20.30 deg. in the LCPac. fission. This behaviour may be understood as an influence of the α-particle (predominantly emitted in equatorial direction) on the alignment of angular momenta produced in bending modes.  相似文献

According to the distribution of linear momentum transfer (lmt) obtained from the correlation measurement of fission partner, the events of Incomplete Fusion Fission (ICF) and Sequential Fission (SF) were distinguished. The fission angular distributions of both ICF and SF were obtained, respectively.
With calculating the moment of inertia by Cassinian Ovaloid as the fission shape, the angular distributions were fitted by current procedure. The spins of fission nuclei corresponding to ICF and SF are extracted. The relation between spins and bombarding energy is discussed.Besides, the angular distribution in coincidence with complex particles is discussed.  相似文献

The angular distributions of fission fragments are measured for systems of 120MeV 14N+118Sn with mica track detectors and gold-surfacebarrier silicon detectors. The measured angular distributions can be fitted by the standard theory of fission angular distributions on the basis of statistical model. The effective moments of inertia of fissioning nuclei at saddle point are derived from angular distribution anisotropies. The shapes of saddle point of fissioning nuclei in the region of Z2/A<30 are discussed.  相似文献

In connection with the recent measurement of the magnetic moments of the fission isomeric states in 237Pu, we investigate the following subjects: (i) The spin alignment of the lowest-lying states in a potential minimum which are populated by (α, 2nγ) reactions, and the fragment angular distributions in fission from isomeric states. (ii) The single-particle level scheme in a very deformed Woods-Saxon potential. (iii) The spin polarizability as a function of the quadrupole deformation.  相似文献

It is shown that the multiplicities and angular and energy distributions of neutrons and photons evaporated from thermalized fragments originating from the spontaneous and low-energy induced fission of nuclei, the relative yields of ground and isomeric states of final fragments, and the features of delayed neutrons emitted upon the beta decay of the above fragments can successfully be described by employing nonequilibrium distributions of spins and relative orbital angular momenta of fission fragments formed in the vicinity of the scission point for the fissile nucleus being studied. It is also shown that these distributions, which are characterized by large mean values of the spins and orbital angular momenta directed orthogonally to the symmetry axis of the fissioning nucleus are successfully constructed upon simultaneously taking into account zero-mode transverse wriggling and bending vibrations of a fissile compound nucleus in the vicinity of its scission point, the wriggling vibrations being dominant. It is confirmed that the zero-mode wriggling vibrations considered immediately above are directly involved in the formation of the angular distributions of fragments originating from the spontaneous and low-energy fission of nuclei. This makes it possible to describe successfully such distributions for photofission fragments.  相似文献

The angular momentum transferred to fragment spins has been studied in the damped nuclear reactions Ar+Bi at 255 MeV and 295 MeV and Ni+Pb at 435 MeV from measurement of the angular distribution of the fission fragments of the heavy-recoil nucleus in coincidence with the projectile-like fragment. The heavy-fragment spin is strongly aligned along the normal to the reaction plane and the rigid-rotation limit of the dinuclear system is attained. The dealignment mechanisms produce spin components mainly located in a plane approximately perpendicular to the heavy-recoil lab direction. They are well described by a dynamical model based on the nucleon exchange between the two ions during the collision. The spin-component fluctuations reach high values. In the heavy-recoil direction, these fluctuations are increasing with the total kinetic energy loss and the charge transfer from the projectile to the target. The spin values extracted from both the angular distributions and the fission probabilities are seen to be compatible.  相似文献
