We consider discrete bilevel optimization problems where the follower solves an integer program with a fixed number of variables. Using recent results in parametric integer programming, we present polynomial time algorithms for pure and mixed integer bilevel problems. For the mixed integer case where the leader’s variables are continuous, our algorithm also detects whether the infimum cost fails to be attained, a difficulty that has been identified but not directly addressed in the literature. In this case, it yields a “better than fully polynomial time” approximation scheme with running time polynomial in the logarithm of the absolute precision. For the pure integer case where the leader’s variables are integer, and hence optimal solutions are guaranteed to exist, we present an algorithm which runs in polynomial time when the total number of variables is fixed.  相似文献

This paper examines a convex reformulation scheme for mixed integer quadratic programs, which was recently developed in the literature. A modification to the scheme, based on a linear transformation, is presented. The modification improves performance for problems which have more continuous variables than integer variables. Numerical results are presented showing the effectiveness of the modification.  相似文献

This paper proposes an accelerated solution method to solve two-stage stochastic programming problems with binary variables in the first stage and continuous variables in the second stage. To develop the solution method, an accelerated sample average approximation approach is combined with an accelerated Benders’ decomposition algorithm. The accelerated sample average approximation approach improves the main structure of the original technique through the reduction in the number of mixed integer programming problems that need to be solved. Furthermore, the recently accelerated Benders’ decomposition approach is utilized to expedite the solution time of the mixed integer programming problems. In order to examine the performance of the proposed solution method, the computational experiments are performed on developed stochastic supply chain network design problems. The computational results show that the accelerated solution method solves these problems efficiently. The synergy of the two accelerated approaches improves the computational procedure by an average factor of over 42%, and over 12% in comparison with the original and the recently modified methods, respectively. Moreover, the betterment of the computational process increases substantially with the size of the problem.  相似文献

This paper proposes a mixed integer linear programming model and solution algorithm for solving supply chain network design problems in deterministic, multi-commodity, single-period contexts. The strategic level of supply chain planning and tactical level planning of supply chain are aggregated to propose an integrated model. The model integrates location and capacity choices for suppliers, plants and warehouses selection, product range assignment and production flows. The open-or-close decisions for the facilities are binary decision variables and the production and transportation flow decisions are continuous decision variables. Consequently, this problem is a binary mixed integer linear programming problem. In this paper, a modified version of Benders’ decomposition is proposed to solve the model. The most difficulty associated with the Benders’ decomposition is the solution of master problem, as in many real-life problems the model will be NP-hard and very time consuming. In the proposed procedure, the master problem will be developed using the surrogate constraints. We show that the main constraints of the master problem can be replaced by the strongest surrogate constraint. The generated problem with the strongest surrogate constraint is a valid relaxation of the main problem. Furthermore, a near-optimal initial solution is generated for a reduction in the number of iterations.  相似文献

The limited success of exact methods for solving integer programming problems has prompted the development of heuristic procedures which have performed surprisingly well in their search for near-optimal solutions. The present paper constitutes an attempt to generalize these procedures to the mixed integer case. The approach is based on the utilization of the Benders partitioning method (BPM) which separates the integer from the continuous variables. A number of alternatives are presented for integrating IP heuristics in the BPM thus alleviating its main limitation: the necessity of solving a sequence of integer master problems. The rationale and its usefulness are illustrated on large-scale applications from the fields of power systems and network flows.  相似文献

We present branching-on-hyperplane methods for solving mixed integer linear and mixed integer convex programs. In particular, we formulate the problem of finding a good branching hyperplane using a novel concept of adjoint lattice. We also reformulate the problem of rounding a continuous solution to a mixed integer solution. A worst case complexity of a Lenstra-type algorithm is established using an approximate log-barrier center to obtain an ellipsoidal rounding of the feasible set. The results for the mixed integer convex programming also establish a complexity result for the mixed integer second order cone programming and mixed integer semidefinite programming feasibility problems as a special case. Our results motivate an alternative reformulation technique and a branching heuristic using a generalized (e.g., ellipsoidal) norm reduced basis available at the root node.  相似文献

In this paper a mixed integer set resulting from the intersection of a single constrained mixed 0–1 set with the vertex packing set is investigated. This set arises as a subproblem of more general mixed integer problems such as inventory routing and facility location problems. Families of strong valid inequalities that take into account the structure of the simple mixed integer set and that of the vertex packing set simultaneously are introduced. In particular, the well-known mixed integer rounding inequality is generalized to the case where incompatibilities between binary variables are present. Exact and heuristic algorithms are designed to solve the separation problems associated to the proposed valid inequalities. Preliminary computational experiments show that these inequalities can be useful to reduce the integrality gaps and to solve integer programming problems.  相似文献

In this paper, a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) formulation is developed for the design and planning of supply chains with reverse flows while considering simultaneously production, distribution and reverse logistics activities. It is also considered products’ demand uncertainty using a scenario tree approach. As main goal the model defines the maximization of the expected net present value and the results provide details on sizing and location of plants, warehouses and retailers, definition of processes to install, establishment of forward and reverse flows and inventory levels to attain. The model is applied to a representative European supply chain case study and its applicability is demonstrated.  相似文献

This contribution gives an overview on the state-of-the-art and recent advances in mixed integer optimization to solve planning and design problems in the process industry. In some case studies specific aspects are stressed and the typical difficulties of real world problems are addressed. Mixed integer linear optimization is widely used to solve supply chain planning problems. Some of the complicating features such as origin tracing and shelf life constraints are discussed in more detail. If properly done the planning models can also be used to do product and customer portfolio analysis. We also stress the importance of multi-criteria optimization and correct modeling for optimization under uncertainty. Stochastic programming for continuous LP problems is now part of most optimization packages, and there is encouraging progress in the field of stochastic MILP and robust MILP. Process and network design problems often lead to nonconvex mixed integer nonlinear programming models. If the time to compute the solution is not bounded, there are already a commercial solvers available which can compute the global optima of such problems within hours. If time is more restricted, then tailored solution techniques are required.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the single-level reformulation of mixed integer bilevel programming problems (MIBLPP). Due to the existence of lower-level integer variables, the popular approaches in the literature such as the first-order approach are not applicable to the MIBLPP. In this paper, we reformulate the MIBLPP as a mixed integer mathematical program with complementarity constraints (MIMPCC) by separating the lower-level continuous and integer variables. In particular, we show that global and local minimizers of the MIBLPP correspond to those of the MIMPCC respectively under suitable conditions.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the production order scheduling problem derived from the production of steel sheets in Shanghai Baoshan Iron and Steel Complex (Baosteel). A deterministic mixed integer programming (MIP) model for scheduling production orders on some critical and bottleneck operations in Baosteel is presented in which practical technological constraints have been considered. The objective is to determine the starting and ending times of production orders on corresponding operations under capacity constraints for minimizing the sum of weighted completion times of all orders. Due to large numbers of variables and constraints in the model, a decomposition solution methodology based on a synergistic combination of Lagrangian relaxation, linear programming and heuristics is developed. Unlike the commonly used method of relaxing capacity constraints, this methodology alternatively relaxes constraints coupling integer variables with continuous variables which are introduced to the objective function by Lagrangian multipliers. The Lagrangian relaxed problem can be decomposed into two sub-problems by separating continuous variables from integer ones. The sub-problem that relates to continuous variables is a linear programming problem which can be solved using standard software package OSL, while the other sub-problem is an integer programming problem which can be solved optimally by further decomposition. The subgradient optimization method is used to update Lagrangian multipliers. A production order scheduling simulation system for Baosteel is developed by embedding the above Lagrangian heuristics. Computational results for problems with up to 100 orders show that the proposed Lagrangian relaxation method is stable and can find good solutions within a reasonable time.  相似文献

The train formation plan (TFP) determines routing and frequency of trains, and assigns the demands to trains. In this paper, an improved local branching algorithm is proposed for the TFP model in Iranian railway. This solution strategy is exact in nature, although it is designed to improve the heuristic behavior of the mixed integer programming (MIP) solver at hand. In the local branching algorithm, additional constraints are built in the model for the binary variables, but in the improved local branching algorithm, the additional constraints are built in the model for integer variables. A state-of-the-art method is applied for parameter tuning using design of experiments approach. To evaluate the proposed solution method, we have simulated and solved twenty test problems. The results show the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed approach. The proposed algorithm is implemented for Iranian Railway network as a case study.  相似文献

A classical problem within the field of structural optimization is to find the stiffest truss design subject to a given external static load and a bound on the total volume. The design variables describe the cross sectional areas of the bars. This class of problems is well-studied for continuous bar areas. We consider here the difficult situation that the truss must be built from pre-produced bars with given areas. This paper together with Part I proposes an algorithmic framework for the calculation of a global optimizer of the underlying non-convex mixed integer design problem. In this paper we use the theory developed in Part I to design a convergent nonlinear branch-and-bound method tailored to solve large-scale instances of the original discrete problem. The problem formulation and the needed theoretical results from Part I are repeated such that this paper is self-contained. We focus on the implementation details but also establish finite convergence of the branch-and-bound method. The algorithm is based on solving a sequence of continuous non-convex relaxations which can be formulated as quadratic programs according to the theory in Part I. The quadratic programs to be treated within the branch-and-bound search all have the same feasible set and differ from each other only in the objective function. This is one reason for making the resulting branch-and-bound method very efficient. The paper closes with several large-scale numerical examples. These examples are, to the knowledge of the authors, by far the largest discrete topology design problems solved by means of global optimization.  相似文献

Generalized geometric programming (GGP) problems occur frequently in engineering design and management. Some exponential-based decomposition methods have been developed for solving global optimization of GGP problems. However, the use of logarithmic/exponential transformations restricts these methods to handle the problems with strictly positive variables. This paper proposes a technique for treating non-positive variables with integer powers in GGP problems. By means of variable transformation, the GGP problem with non-positive variables can be equivalently solved with another one having positive variables. In addition, we present some computationally efficient convexification rules for signomial terms to enhance the efficiency of the optimization approach. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed method in GGP problems with non-positive variables.  相似文献

This two part paper considers the classical problem of finding a truss design with minimal compliance subject to a given external force and a volume bound. The design variables describe the cross-section areas of the bars. While this problem is well-studied for continuous bar areas, we treat here the case of discrete areas. This problem is of major practical relevance if the truss must be built from pre-produced bars with given areas. As a special case, we consider the design problem for a single bar area, i.e., a 0/1-problem. In contrast to heuristic methods considered in other approaches, Part I of the paper together with Part II present an algorithmic framework for the calculation of a global optimizer of the underlying large-scaled mixed integer design problem. This framework is given by a convergent branch-and-bound algorithm which is based on solving a sequence of nonconvex continuous relaxations. The main issue of the paper and of the approach lies in the fact that the relaxed nonlinear optimization problem can be formulated as a quadratic program (QP). Here the paper generalizes and extends the available theory from the literature. Although the Hessian of this QP is indefinite, it is possible to circumvent the non-convexity and to calculate global optimizers. Moreover, the QPs to be treated in the branch-and-bound search tree differ from each other just in the objective function. In Part I we give an introduction to the problem and collect all theory and related proofs for the treatment of the original problem formulation and the continuous relaxed problems. The implementation details and convergence proof of the branch-and-bound methodology and the large-scale numerical examples are presented in Part II.  相似文献

Given an oracle that generates a large number of solutions to mixed integer programs, we present exact and heuristic approaches to select a small subset of solutions that maximizes solution diversity. We obtain good results on binary variables, but report scaling problems when considering general integer and continuous variables.  相似文献

Gas lift is a costly, however indispensable means to recover oil from high-depth reservoirs that entails solving the gas-lift optimization problem, GOP, often in response to variations in the dynamics of the reservoir and economic oscillations. GOP can be cast as a mixed integer nonlinear programming problem whose integer variables decide which oil wells should produce, while the continuous variables allocate the gas-compressing capacity to the active ones. This paper extends the GOP formulation to encompass uncertainties in the oil outflow and precedence constraints imposed on the activation of wells. Recursive solutions are suggested for instances devoid of precedence constraints, as well as instances arising from precedence constraints induced by forests and general acyclic graphs. For the first two classes, pseudo-polynomial algorithms are developed to solve a discretized version of GOP, while the most general version is shown to be NP-Hard in the strong sense. Numerical experiments provide evidence that the approximate algorithms obtained by solving the recurrences produce near-optimal solutions. Further, the family of cover inequalities of the knapsack problem is extended to the gas-lift optimization problem.  相似文献

On the mixed integer signomial programming problems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper proposes an approximate method to solve the mixed integer signomial programming problem, for which the objective function and the constraints may contain product terms with exponents and decision variables, which could be continuous or integral. A linear programming relaxation is derived for the problem based on piecewise linearization techniques, which first convert a signomial term into the sum of absolute terms; these absolute terms are then linearized by linearization strategies. In addition, a novel approach is included for solving integer and undefined problems in the logarithmic piecewise technique, which leads to more usefulness of the proposed method. The proposed method could reach a solution as close as possible to the global optimum.  相似文献

Stochastic programs with continuous variables are often solved using a cutting plane method similar to Benders' partitioning algorithm. However, mixed 0–1 integer programs are also solved using a similar procedure along with enumeration. This similarity is exploited in this paper to solve two stage linear programs under uncertainty where the first stage variables are 0–1. Such problems often arise in capital investment. A network investment application is given which includes as a special case a coal transportation problem.  相似文献

Regulation of Overlaps in Technology Development Activities   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
In this paper, we present an algorithm for the solution of multiparametric mixed integer linear programming (mp-MILP) problems involving (i) 0-1 integer variables, and, (ii) more than one parameter, bounded between lower and upper bounds, present on the right hand side (RHS) of constraints. The solution is approached by decomposing the mp-MILP into two subproblems and then iterating between them. The first subproblem is obtained by fixing integer variables, resulting in a multiparametric linear programming (mp-LP) problem, whereas the second subproblem is formulated as a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) problem by relaxing the parameters as variables.  相似文献
