A static physical model of the larynx (model M5) was used to obtain a large set of volume flows as a function of symmetric glottal geometry and transglottal pressure. The measurements cover ranges of these variables relevant to human phonation. A generalized equation was created to accurately estimate the glottal volume flow given specific glottal geometries and transglottal pressures. Both the data and the generalized formula give insights into the flow behavior for different glottal geometries, especially the contrast between convergent and divergent glottal angles at different glottal diameters. The generalized equation produced a fit to the entire M5 dataset (267 points) with an average accuracy of 3.4%. The accuracy was about seven times better than that of the Ishizaka-Flanagan approach to glottal flow and about four times better than that of a pressure coefficient approach. Thus, for synthesis purposes, the generalized equation presented here should provide more realistic glottal flows (based on steady flow conditions) as suitable inputs to the vocal tract, for given values of transglottal pressure and glottal geometry. Applications of the generalized formula to pulses generated by vocal fold motions typical of those produced by the Ishizaka-Flanagan coupled-oscillator model and the more recent body-cover model of Story and Titze are also included.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical study of the sensitivity of a fluid model known as time relaxation model with respect to variations of the time relaxation coefficient $\chi$. The sensitivity analysis of this model is utilized by the sensitivity equation method and uses the finite element method along with Crank Nicolson method in the fully discretization of the partial differential equations. We present a test case in support of the sensitivity convergence and also provide a numerical comparison between two different strategies of computing the sensitivity, sensitivity equation method and forward finite differences.  相似文献

Valence double parton distribution functions of the nucleon are evaluated in the framework of a simple model, where the conservation of the longitudinal momentum is taken into account. The leading-order DGLAP QCD evolution from the low quark-model scale to higher renormalization scales is carried out via the Mellin moments of the distributions. Results of the valence quark correlation function show that in general the double distributions cannot be approximated as a product of the single-particle distributions.  相似文献

For a balanced dc magnetron discharge a linear model for the formation of excited and ionized species is presented. The consideration is based on collisional kinetic theory and a correlation of discharge current with ionization rates, and leads to normalized rate coefficients. The electron energy distribution changes according to the determining external parameters, but needs neither to be known in detail nor to be of Maxwellian type. The model calculations are consistent with measurements done by optical emission spectroscopy (OES) on the magnetron sputtering of aluminium in argon discharges. The dependences of optical emission intensities on discharge current and on argon pressure show that both, excited argon atoms as well as excited argon ions, are generated from neutral argon by direct, fast electron impact. It is additionally shown that at least for low argon pressure the excitation of aluminium atoms is also caused by direct electron impact.  相似文献

We discuss the motion of substance in a channel containing nodes of a network. Each node of the channel can exchange substance with: (i) neighboring nodes of the channel, (ii) network nodes which do not belong to the channel, and (iii) environment of the network. The new point in this study is that we assume possibility for exchange of substance among flows of substance between nodes of the channel and: (i) nodes that belong to the network but do not belong to the channel and (ii) environment of the network. This leads to an extension of the model of motion of substance and the extended model contains previous models as particular cases. We use a discrete-time model of motion of substance and consider a stationary regime of motion of substance in a channel containing a finite number of nodes. As results of the study, we obtain a class of probability distributions connected to the amount of substance in nodes of the channel. We prove that the obtained class of distributions contains all truncated discrete probability distributions of discrete random variable ω which can take values 0,1,,N. Theory for the case of a channel containing infinite number of nodes is presented in Appendix A. The continuous version of the discussed discrete probability distributions is described in Appendix B. The discussed extended model and obtained results can be used for the study of phenomena that can be modeled by flows in networks: motion of resources, traffic flows, motion of migrants, etc.  相似文献

Abstract

Metal foams are cellular structure materials that present open cells, randomly oriented and mostly homogeneous in size and shape. Cellular structure materials, and particularly open-cell metal foams, have been proposed as possible substitutes for traditional finned surfaces in electronics cooling applications. This article presents the heat transfer and pressure drops measurements obtained during air flow through an aluminum foam, which has 40 pores per inch with 0.63 mm pore diameter. The specimen has been inserted in a new open-circuit type wind channel with a rectangular cross-section that has recently been built at the Department of Fisica Tecnica of the University of Padova. The experimental heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops have been collected by varying the air flow rate supplied by the screw compressor that provides a variable volumetric air flow ranging between 0–90 m3h?1 at a constant gauge pressure of 7 bar. The specific heat flux has been simulated by powering with a 25-kWm?2 copper heater attached at the bottom of the aluminum foam base plate. The experimental results are reported in terms of heat transfer coefficients, mean normalized wall temperatures, and pressure drops.  相似文献

Motivated by recent experiments with two-component Bose–Einstein condensates, we study fully-connected spin models subject to an additional constraint. The constraint is responsible for the Hilbert space dimension to scale only linearly with the system size. We discuss the unconventional statistical physical and thermodynamic properties of such a system, in particular the absence of concentration of the underlying probability distributions. As a consequence, expectation values are less suitable to characterize such systems, and full distribution functions are required instead. Sharp signatures of phase transitions do not occur in such a setting, but transitions from singly peaked to doubly peaked distribution functions of an “order parameter” may be present.  相似文献

Ultrasonic transmission measurements have been used extensively to determine the particle size of solids in slurries. This case study examines the application of mathematical inversion techniques to the determination of the particle size distribution of a mineral slurry from data collected at a minerals processing plant. A new mathematical inversion technique, based on an extension of modified Chahine iteration combined with the principle of maximum entropy has been developed. Four algorithms were constructed and used to calculate particle size distributions from synthetic and raw plant data. These incorporated modified Chahine iteration and its extension, together with two different approaches to applying a density measurement constraint on the particle size distribution. In general the algorithms performed well with regression errors below 3 %. The correlation coefficients and slopes for this technique were 0.86 and 1.35 for the weight fraction of particles less than 75 microns when compared with the laser diffraction analysis. A better match was obtained for the plant data by using the new inversion technique, into which the principle of maximum entropy has been incorporated whereas this was not the case with the synthetic data, illustrating the need to match the inversion technique to the problem.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the limiting distribution functions for a polynuclear growth model with two external sources which was considered by Prähofer and Spohn. Depending on the strength of the sources, the limiting distribution functions are either the Tracy–Widom functions of random matrix theory or a new explicit function which has the special property that its mean is zero. Moreover, we obtain transition functions between pairs of the above distribution functions in suitably scaled limits. There are also similar results for a discrete totally asymmetric exclusion process.  相似文献

The traditional linear regression model that assumes normal residuals is applied extensively in engineering and science. However, the normality assumption of the model residuals is often ineffective. This drawback can be overcome by using a generalized normal regression model that assumes a non-normal response. In this paper, we propose regression models based on generalizations of the normal distribution. The proposed regression models can be used effectively in modeling data with a highly skewed response. Furthermore, we study in some details the structural properties of the proposed generalizations of the normal distribution. The maximum likelihood method is used for estimating the parameters of the proposed method. The performance of the maximum likelihood estimators in estimating the distributional parameters is assessed through a small simulation study. Applications to two real datasets are given to illustrate the flexibility and the usefulness of the proposed distributions and their regression models.  相似文献

This study sought to examine the specific relationship between phonation threshold pressure (PTP) and voice fundamental frequency (F(0)) across the pitch range. A published theoretical model of this relationship described a quadratic equation, with PTP increasing exponentially with F(0). Prospective data from eight adults with normal, untrained voices were collected. Subjects produced their quietest phonation at 10 randomly ordered pitches from 5% to 95% of their semitone pitch range at 10% intervals. Analysis included curve fitting for individual and group data, as well as comparisons to the previous model. The group data fit a quadratic function similar to that proposed previously, but the specific quadratic coefficient and constant values differed. Four of the individual subjects' data were best fit by quartic functions, two by quadratic functions, and one by a linear function. This preliminary study indicates that PTP may be minimal at a "comfortable" pitch rather than the lowest pitch tested, and that, for some individuals, PTP may be slightly elevated during the passaggio between modal and falsetto vocal registers. These data support the general form of the theoretical PTP-F(0) function for these speakers, and indicate the possibility of potential refinements to the model. Future studies with larger groups of male and female subjects across a wider age range may eventually reveal the specific nature of the function.  相似文献

We consider a random multiplicative stochastic process with multipliers given by the exponential of a Brownian motion. The positive integer moments of the distribution function can be computed exactly, and can be represented as the grand partition function of an equivalent lattice gas with attractive 2-body interactions. The numerical results for the positive integer moments display a sharp transition at a critical value of the model parameters, which corresponds to a phase transition in the equivalent lattice gas model. The shape of the terminal distribution changes suddenly at the critical point to a heavy-tailed distribution. The transition can be related to the position of the complex zeros of the grand partition function of the lattice gas, in analogy with the Lee, Yang picture of phase transitions in statistical mechanics. We study the properties of the equivalent lattice gas in the thermodynamical limit, which corresponds to the continuous time limit of the random multiplicative model, and derive the asymptotics of the approach to the continuous time limit. The results can be generalized to a wider class of random multiplicative processes, driven by the exponential of a Gaussian stochastic process.  相似文献
