An early drag crisis can occur at high turbulence of incoming gas flow to a sphere. To study the influence of a crisis on heat transfer from a sphere to gas, a numerical experiment was carried out in which the free gas flow around a sphere with a temperature lower than the sphere temperature was simulated for two cases. The flow was laminar in the first case and highly turbulent in the second case. To take into account turbulence, the kinematic coefficient of turbulent viscosity with a value, which is much higher (up to 2000 times) than that for physical viscosity, was introduced. The results of calculations show that the early drag crisis occurs at Reynolds numbers of about 100 and results in considerable (by four to seven times) decrease in the hydrodynamic force and sphere drag coefficient C d . The early drag crisis is also accompanied by the crisis of heat transfer from a sphere to gas with a decrease in Nusselt numbers Nu by three to six times.  相似文献

A numerical experiment on the simulation of heat transfer from a sphere to a gas flow in a cylindrical channel in the Stokes and transient flow regimes has been described. Radial and axial profiles of the gas temperature and the dependences of drag coefficient Cd of the body and Nusselt number Nu on Reynolds number Re have been calculated and analyzed. The problem of the influence of the early drag crisis for a sphere on its heat transfer to the gas flow has been considered. The estimation of this phenomenon has shown that the early drag crisis of the sphere in a strongly turbulent flow causes a reduction in heat transfer from the sphere to the gas by three to six times (in approximately the same proportion as for its drag coefficient).  相似文献

The effect of the incoming flow geometry on the hydrodynamic drag of a body is investigated in a numerical experiment simulating a free gas flow past a sphere as well as flows in cylindrical tubes of various radii, in a confuser, and a diffuser. The results of calculations lead to the conclusion that the confinement of the flow by the tube walls, its contraction and expansion may change the hydrodynamic force and the drag acting on the body insignificantly (not more than by 30%). This cannot explain the early drag crisis, in which the values of these quantities decrease by 4–7 times for Reynolds numbers on the order of 100. This phenomenon is explained theoretically by the effect of strong turbulence of the incoming flow to the body.  相似文献

The recently discovered phenomenon of drag anomaly (early crisis) observed for droplets in a two-phase turbulent flow at transition Reynolds numbers (Re = 10–100) is experimentally supported in the case of a gas flow about a single hard sphere as well. Using a specially designed torsion balance, the drag force of a foam plastic sphere 3 mm in diameter placed in a blower-produced turbulent jet is measured. It is found that the turbulence of the flow about the sphere must be high for the drag anomaly to arise.  相似文献

When processing experimental data for the hydrodynamics of a two-phase flow in a spray produced by a mechanical nozzle, we revealed an anomaly in the behavior of the hydrodynamic drag of drops: the drag coefficient turns out to be four to seven times lower than the previously known values. Several hypotheses are put forward to explain the anomaly. It is found that, when the gas flows around drops under highly turbulent conditions, an “early” (i.e., observed even at transition Reynolds numbers, Re>50) crisis of drag resistance of drops takes place. This new physical phenomenon allows us to account for a number of features of the two-phase flow that are observed in the experiment. Among these features is, in particular, the fact that the momentum transferred to the gas is roughly half the initial momentum of the liquid jet.  相似文献

The translational motion of a microsphere (radius 100 μm) in liquid helium is investigated. The sphere is levitating inside a superconducting capacitor and oscillates about its equilibrium position. The velocity amplitude and the resonance frequency are measured as a function of driving force and temperature (0.35 K up to 2.2 K). By increasing the driving force we first find a linear regime (laminar flow) which changes abruptly into a nonlinear one (turbulent flow). For temperatures below 0.7 K the linear drag is given by ballistic roton and phonon scattering whereas for temperatures above 1.1 K the hydrodynamic force on the sphere is described by Stoke's solution. In the turbulent regime, above a temperature independent threshold velocity, we find the drag force to be given by turbulence in the superfluid component plus an essentially laminar drag by the normal component.  相似文献

为研究水翼表面粗糙带对空化的抑制效果,在修改的NACA16翼型吸力面施加一粗糙带,对在不同粗糙带条件下翼型的水动力学特性和周围流场进行了数值模拟研究,得到了升阻力系数、吸力面最小压力系数和近壁面湍动能随粗糙带变化的趋势,探讨了水翼表面粗糙带对抑制表面空化的效果。结果表明,随着粗糙带宽度和高度的增大,翼型周围流场的压强显著升高并使吸力面的最低压力高于饱和蒸汽压,从而延缓了初生空化的发生。该结果为认识粗糙带对水翼抗空蚀性能的影响提供了参考。  相似文献

Using a hydrodynamic theory that incorporates a momentum decay mechanism, we calculate the drag coefficient of a circular liquid domain of finite viscosity moving in a two-dimensional membrane. We derive an analytical expression for the drag coefficient which covers the whole range of domain sizes. Several limiting expressions are discussed. The obtained drag coefficient decreases as the domain viscosity becomes smaller with respect to the outer membrane viscosity. This is because the flow induced in the domain acts to transport the fluid in the surrounding matrix more efficiently.  相似文献

We study, computationally, the sedimentation of a sphere of higher mass in a steady, gravity-driven granular flow of otherwise identical spheres, on a rough inclined plane. Taking a hydrodynamic approach at the scale of the particle, we find the drag force to be given by a modified Stokes law and the buoyancy force by the Archimedes principle, with excluded volume effects taken into account. We also find significant differences between the hydrodynamic case and the granular case, which are highlighted.  相似文献

A numerical experiment on the simulation of the two-phase flow formed during spraying of a liquid by a nozzle has been described. The radial and axial velocity profiles of the droplets and gas in the free spray and in the two-phase flow through a cylindrical apparatus have been calculated and represented taking into account the early drag crisis of droplets and peculiarities of turbulent friction in the gas, which was detected in previous experiments. The distinguishing feature of the numerical model of the two-phase flow is that it employs the differential equations describing the nonstationary flow of a compressible gas as the initial equations. In transition to their difference analog, the familiar Lax–Wendorff algorithm has been used. A comparison of the results of calculations based on this model with experimental data has demonstrated their concordance.  相似文献

In a circular cylinder with uniform flow, a sudden decrease in the drag force occurs at a high Reynolds numbers; however, it is known that the same phenomenon occurs at a lower Reynolds number in the case where there exist grooves or roughness on the circular cylinder surface. To clarify the flow characteristics around a circular cylinder in the case of changing the shape of grooves we analyzed the drag coefficient, lift coefficient, turbulent kinetic energy, vorticity and pressure by applying the RNGk-ε turbulent model. The shapes of the grooves were arced, triangulated and curved. The results showed that the separation point for a circular cylinder with curved sectional grooves shifts to the most downstream side and the drag coefficient becomes the smallest among circular cylinders with grooves.  相似文献

Glow discharge plasma on a solid surface will result in a body force which modifies the pressure distribution along the flow boundary layer, and consequently re-attaches the separated flows for reduction of a hydrodynamic drag force. In this paper, we investigate the discharge performance of various plasma-actuated electrodes in terms of their arrangements and structures. The resulting optimal configuration for the electrode separation distance was used to develop a flexible actuated panel to be mounted onto a NACA 0015 airfoil. Both uniphase and eight-phase power inputs were used to examine its drag reduction performance at various attack angles and flow velocities. Numerical calculations were also performed by including an electrostatic body force in the hydrodynamic equation. Good agreement were found between the numerical and experiment results.  相似文献

The method of induced forces, which was used previously to derive a scheme for the evaluation of the Oseen drag exerted on a circular cylinder, is applied now to the problem of the Oseen drag experienced by a sphere. In this paper, in order to make clear the flow characteristics around a cylinder with 20, 26 and 32 triangular grooves, the mean drag coefficient, pressure distribution, velocity distribution and turbulence intensity distribution were measured. Moreover, the flow around the cylinder was analyzed by applying the RNGk − ɛ turbulent model, and the surface flow pattern was investigated using the oil-film technique. From these results, it was found that a sudden decrease in the mean drag coefficient of a cylinder with 32 triangular grooves occurs at a lower Reynolds number compared with 20 and 26 triangular grooves.  相似文献

We study by means of an Eulerian-Lagrangian model the statistical properties of velocity and acceleration of a neutrally-buoyant finite-sized particle in a turbulent flow statistically homogeneous and isotropic. The particle equation of motion, besides added mass and steady Stokes drag, keeps into account the unsteady Stokes drag force-known as Basset-Boussinesq history force-and the non-Stokesian drag based on Schiller-Naumann parametrization, together with the finite-size Faxén corrections. We focus on the case of flow at low Taylor-Reynolds number, Reλ?31, for which fully resolved numerical data which can be taken as a reference are available [Homann H., Bec J. Finite-size effects in the dynamics of neutrally buoyant particles in turbulent flow. J Fluid Mech 651 (2010) 81-91]. Remarkably, we show that while drag forces have always minor effects on the acceleration statistics, their role is important on the velocity behavior. We propose also that the scaling relations for the particle velocity variance as a function of its size, which have been first detected in fully resolved simulations, does not originate from inertial-scale properties of the background turbulent flow but it is likely to arise from the non-Stokesian component of the drag produced by the wake behind the particle. Furthermore, by means of comparison with fully resolved simulations, we show that the Faxén correction to the added mass has a dominant role in the particle acceleration statistics even for particles whose size attains the integral scale.  相似文献

In this study, a new control strategy for turbulent drag reduction involving ventilated cavitation is proposed. The configurational and hydrodynamic characteristics of ventilated cavities influenced by turbulent drag-reducing additives were experimentally studied in water tunnel. The test model was fixed in the water tunnel by a strut in the aft-part. Aqueous solutions of CTAC/Na Sal(cetyltrimethyl ammonium chloride/sodium salicylate) with weight concentrations of 100, 200, 400 and 600 ppm(part per million), respectively, were injected into the ventilated air cavity from the edge of the cavitator with accurate control by an injection pump. The cavity configurations were recorded by a high-speed CCD camera. The hydrodynamic characteristics of the test model were measured by a six-component balance. Experimental results show that, within the presently tested cases, the lengths of cavity influenced by drag-reducing solution are smaller than normal condition(ventilated cavity) in water, but the asymmetry of the cavity is improved. The drag resisted by the test model is reduced dramatically(the maximum drag reduction can reach to 80%) and the re-entrant jet is more complex after the CTAC solution is injected into the cavity. Turbulent drag-reducing additives have the potential in enhancement of supercavitating asymmetry and further drag reduction.  相似文献

A bird-feather-inspired herringbone riblet texture was investigated for turbulent drag reduction. The texture consists of blade riblets in a converging/diverging or herringbone pattern with spanwise wavelength Λf. The aim is to quantify the drag change for this texture as compared to a smooth wall and to study the underlying mechanisms. To that purpose, direct numerical simulations of turbulent flow in a channel with height Lz were performed. The Fukagata-Iwamoto-Kasagi identity for drag decomposition was extended to textured walls and was used to study the drag change mechanisms. For Λf/Lz ? O(10), the herringbone texture behaves similarly to a conventional parallel-riblet texture in yaw: the suppression of turbulent advective transport results in a slight drag reduction of 2%. For Λf/Lz ? O(1), the drag increases strongly with a maximum of 73%. This is attributed to enhanced mean and turbulent advection, which results from the strong secondary flow that forms over regions of riblet convergence/divergence. Hence, the employment of convergent/divergent riblets in the texture seems to be detrimental to turbulent drag reduction.  相似文献
