The problem of free convection heat with mass transfer for MHD non-Newtonian Eyring–Powell flow through a porous medium, over an infinite vertical plate is studied. Taking into account the effects of both viscous dissipation and heat source. The temperature and concentration are of periodic variation. The governing non-linear partial differential equations of this phenomenon are transformed into non-linear algebraic system utilizing finite difference method. Numerical results for the velocity, temperature and concentration distributions as well as the skin friction, heat and mass transfer are obtained and reported in tabular form and graphically for different values of physical parameters of the problem. Also, the stability condition is studied.  相似文献

Of concern in this paper is an investigation of biomagnetic flow of a non-Newtonian viscoelastic fluid over a stretching sheet under the influence of an applied magnetic field generated owing to the presence of a magnetic dipole. The viscoelasticity of the fluid is characterised by Walter’s B fluid model. The applied magnetic field has been considered to be sufficiently strong to saturate the ferrofluid. The magnetization of the fluid is considered to vary linearly with temperature as well as the magnetic field intensity. The theoretical treatment of the physical problem consists of reducing it to solving a system of non-linear coupled differential equations that involve six parameters, which are solved by developing a finite difference technique. The velocity profile, the skin-friction, the wall pressure and the rate of heat transfer at the sheet are computed for a specific situation. The study shows that the fluid velocity increases as the rate of heat transfer decreases, while the local skin-friction and the wall pressure increase as the magnetic field strength is increased. It is also revealed that fluid viscoelasticity has an enhancing effect on the local skin-friction. The study will have an important bearing on magnetic drug targeting and separation of red cells as well as on the control of blood flow during surgery.  相似文献

The steady Von Kármán flow and heat transfer of an electrically conducting non-Newtonian fluid is extended to the case where the disk surface admits partial slip. The fluid is subjected to an external uniform magnetic field perpendicular to the plane of the disk. The constitutive equation of the non-Newtonian fluid is modeled by that for a Reiner–Rivlin fluid. The momentum equations give rise to highly non-linear boundary value problem. Numerical solutions for the governing non-linear equations are obtained over the entire range of the physical parameters. The effects of slip, magnetic parameter and non-Newtonian fluid characteristics on the velocity and temperature fields are discussed in detail and shown graphically. Emphasis has been laid to study the effects of viscous dissipation and Joule heating on the thermal boundary layer. It is interesting to find that the non-Newtonian cross-viscous parameter has an opposite effect to that of the slip and the magnetic parameter on the velocity and the temperature fields.  相似文献

The steady flow and heat transfer arising due to the rotation of a non-Newtonian fluid at a larger distance from a stationary disk is extended to the case where the disk surface admits partial slip. The constitutive equation of the non-Newtonian fluid is modeled by that for a Reiner–Rivlin fluid. The fluid is subjected to an external uniform magnetic field perpendicular to the plane of the disk. The momentum equation gives rise to a highly nonlinear boundary value problem. Numerical solution of the governing nonlinear equations are obtained over the entire range of the physical parameters. The effects of slip, non-Newtonian fluid characteristics and the magnetic interaction parameter on the momentum boundary layer and thermal boundary layer are discussed in detail and shown graphically. It is observed that slip has prominent effects on the velocity and temperature fields.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the influence of viscous dissipation and Soret effect on natural convection heat and mass transfer from vertical cone in a non-Darcy porous media saturated with non-Newtonian fluid. The surface of the cone and the ambient medium are maintained at constant but different levels of temperature and concentration. The Ostwald-de Waele power law model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. The governing equations are non-dimensionalized into non-similar form and then solved numerically by local non-similarity method. The effect of non-Darcy parameter, viscous dissipation parameter, Soret parameter, buoyancy ratio, Lewis number and the power-law index parameter on the temperature and concentration field as well as on the heat and mass transfer coefficients is analyzed.  相似文献

A linear hydrodynamic stability problem corresponding to an electrohydrodynamic convection between two parallel walls is considered. The problem is an eighth order eigenvalue one supplied with hinged boundary conditions for the even derivatives up to sixth order. It is first solved by a direct analytical method. By variational arguments it is shown that its smallest eigenvalue is real and positive. The problem is cast into a second order differential system supplied only with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Then, two classes of methods are used to solve this formulation of the problem, namely, analytical methods (based on series of Chandrasekar-Galerkin type and of Budiansky-DiPrima type) and spectral methods (tau, Galerkin and collocation) based on Chebyshev and Legendre polynomials. For certain values of the physical parameters the numerically computed eigenvalues from the low part of the spectrum are displayed in a table. The Galerkin and collocation results are fairly closed and confirm the analytical results.  相似文献

The use of the collocation method, with collocation points at the zeroes of a Chebyshev polynomial, to solve spatial problems of the stability of convective flows, is described. The fluid occupies a closed rectangular cavity on the boundaries of which conditions of the first, second and third kind can be specified. Using a differential matrix constructed at the collocation points, the spectral problem is transformed into an extended eigenvector problem that is solved numerically. The Rayleigh problem in a closed layer is solved for different values of the ratio of the sides of the rectangular cavity. The calculations presented are compared with the results of the solution of non-linear equations and also with the experimental and theoretical data of other authors.  相似文献

In this paper, the effects of viscous dissipation and the temperature-dependent thermal conductivity on an unsteady flow and heat transfer in a thin liquid film of a non-Newtonian Ostwald–de Waele fluid over a horizontal porous stretching surface is studied. Using a similarity transformation, the time-dependent boundary-layer equations are reduced to a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations. The resulting five parameter problem is solved by the Keller–Box method. The effects of the unsteady parameter on the film thickness are explored numerically for different values of the power-law index parameter and the injection parameter. Numerical results for the velocity, the temperature, the skin friction and the wall-temperature gradient are presented through graphs and tables for different values of the pertinent parameter. One of the important findings of the study is that the film thickness increases with an increase in the power-law index parameter (as well as the injection parameter). Quite the opposite is true with the unsteady parameter. Furthermore, the wall-temperature gradient decreases with an increase in the Eckert number or the variable thermal conductivity parameter. Furthermore, the surface temperature of a shear thinning fluid is larger compared to the Newtonian and shear thickening fluids. The results obtained reveal many interesting behaviors that warrant further study of the equations related to non-Newtonian fluid phenomena, especially the shear-thinning phenomena.  相似文献

In this paper, an approximate analytical solution is derived for the flow velocity and temperature due to the laminar, two-dimensional flow of non-Newtonian incompressible visco elastic fluid due to a continuous stretching surface. The surface is stretched with a velocity proportional to the distance $x$ along the surface. The surface is assumed to have either power-law heat flux or power-law temperature distribution. The presence of source/sink and the effect of uniform suction and injection on the flow are considered for analysis. An approximate analytical solution has been obtained using Homotopy Analysis Method(HAM) for various values of visco elastic parameter, suction and injection rates. Optimal values of the convergence control parameters are computed for the flow variables. It was found that the computational time required for averaged residual error calculation is very very small compared to the computation time of exact squared residual errors. The effect of mass transfer parameter, visco elastic parameter, source/sink parameter and the power law index on flow variables such as velocity, temperature profiles, shear stress, heat and mass transfer rates are discussed.  相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to study the magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer flow and heat transfer characteristics of a non-Newtonian viscoelastic fluid over a flat sheet with a linear velocity in the presence of thermal radiation and non-uniform heat source. The thermal conductivity is assumed to vary as a linear function of temperature. The basic equations governing the flow and heat transfer are in the form of partial differential equations, the same have been reduced to a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations by applying suitable similarity transformation. The transformed equations are solved analytically by regular perturbation method. Numerical solution of the problem is also obtained by the efficient shooting method, which agrees well with the analytical solution. The effects of various physical parameters such as viscoelastic parameter, Chandrasekhar number, Prandtl number, variable thermal conductivity parameter, Eckert number, thermal radiation parameter and non-uniform heat source/sink parameters which determine the temperature profiles are shown in several plots and the heat transfer coefficient is tabulated for a range of values of said parameters. Some important findings reported in this work reveals that combined effect of variable thermal conductivity, radiation and non-uniform heat source have significant impact in controlling the rate of heat transfer in the boundary layer region.  相似文献

An analysis has been performed to study the natural convection of a non-Newtonian fluid between two infinite parallel vertical flat plates and the effects of the non-Newtonian nature of fluid on the heat transfer are studied. The governing boundary layer and temperature equations for this problem are reduced to an ordinary form and are solved by homotopy analysis method (HAM), and numerical method. Velocity and temperature profiles are shown graphically. The obtained results are valid for the whole solution domain with high accuracy. These methods can be easily extended to other linear and non-linear equations and so can be found widely applicable in engineering and sciences.  相似文献

In this paper, Adomian’s decomposition method is used to solve non-linear differential equations which arise in fluid dynamics. We study basic flow problems of a third grade non-Newtonian fluid between two parallel plates separated by a finite distance. The technique of Adomian decomposition is successfully applied to study the problem of a non-Newtonian plane Couette flow, fully developed plane Poiseuille flow and plane Couette–Poiseuille flow. The results obtained show the reliability and efficiency of this analytical method. Numerical solutions are also obtained by solving non-linear ordinary differential equations using Chebyshev spectral method. We present a comparative study between the analytical solutions and numerical solutions. The analytical results are found to be in good agreement with numerical solutions which reveals the effectiveness and convenience of the Adomian decomposition method.  相似文献

Three-dimensional time-dependent initial-boundary value problems of a novel microscopic heat equation are solved by the mixed collocation–finite difference method in and on the boundaries of a particle when the thickness is much smaller than both the length and width. The collocation method on fixed grid size is used to approximate the space operator, whereas the finite difference scheme is used for time discretization. This new mixed method is applied to a novel heat problem in a particle, in order to compute the temperature distribution in and on the particle's surface. The second derivatives of the basis functions for the spectral approximation are derived. Direct substitution of derivatives in the model transforms the differential equation into a linear system of equations that is solved by the specific preconditioned conjugate gradient method. The high-order accuracy and resolution achieved by the proposed method allows one to obtain engineering-accuracy solution on coarse meshes. The consistency, stability and convergence analysis are provided and numerical results are presented.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical analysis of the flow and heat transfer characteristics of natural convection in a micropolar fluid flowing along a vertical slender hollow circular cylinder with conduction effects. The nonlinear formulation governing equations and their associated boundary conditions are first cast into dimensionless forms by a local non-similar transformation. The resulting equations are then solved using the cubic spline collocation method and the finite difference scheme. This study investigates the effects of the conjugate heat transfer parameter, the micropolar parameter, and the Prandtl number on the flow and the thermal fields. The conjugate heat transfer parameter reduces the solid–liquid interfacial temperature, the skin friction factor and the local heat transfer rate. The effect of wall conduction on the local heat transfer rate, interfacial temperature and skin friction factor is found to be more pronounced in a system with a greater Prandtl number. Moreover, the current results are comparing with Newtonian fluid to obtain the important results of the heat transfer and flow characteristics on micropolar fluids. It shows that an increase in the interfacial temperature, a reduction in the skin friction factor, and a reduction in the local heat transfer rate are identified in the current micropolar fluid case.  相似文献

The unsteady magnetohydrodynamic flow of an electrically conducting viscous incompressible non-Newtonian Bingham fluid bounded by two parallel non-conducting porous plates is studied with heat transfer considering the Hall effect. An external uniform magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the plates and the fluid motion is subjected to a uniform suction and injection. The lower plate is stationary and the upper plate moves with a constant velocity and the two plates are kept at different but constant temperatures. Numerical solutions are obtained for the governing momentum and energy equations taking the Joule and viscous dissipations into consideration. The effect of the Hall term, the parameter describing the non-Newtonian behavior, and the velocity of suction and injection on both the velocity and temperature distributions are studied.  相似文献

In this study, we use the spectral collocation method using Chebyshev polynomials for spatial derivatives and fourth order Runge–Kutta method for time integration to solve the generalized Burger’s–Huxley equation (GBHE). To reduce round-off error in spectral collocation (pseudospectral) method we use preconditioning. Firstly, theory of application of Chebyshev spectral collocation method with preconditioning (CSCMP) and domain decomposition on the generalized Burger’s–Huxley equation presented. This method yields a system of ordinary differential algebric equations (DAEs). Secondly, we use fourth order Runge–Kutta formula for the numerical integration of the system of DAEs. The numerical results obtained by this way have been compared with the exact solution to show the efficiency of the method.  相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to study the momentum and heat transfer characteristics in an incompressible electrically conducting non-Newtonian boundary layer flow of a viscoelastic fluid over a stretching sheet. The partial differential equations governing the flow and heat transfer characteristics are converted into highly non-linear coupled ordinary differential equations by similarity transformations. The effect of variable fluid viscosity, Magnetic parameter, Prandtl number, variable thermal conductivity, heat source/sink parameter and thermal radiation parameter are analyzed for velocity, temperature fields, and wall temperature gradient. The resultant coupled highly non-linear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically by employing a shooting technique with fourth order Runge–Kutta integration scheme. The fluid viscosity and thermal conductivity, respectively, assumed to vary as an inverse and linear function of temperature. The analysis reveals that the wall temperature profile decreases significantly due to increase in magnetic field parameter. Further, it is noticed that the skin friction of the sheet decreases due to increase in the Magnetic parameter of the flow characteristics.  相似文献
