Temperature measurements were performed for polycarbonate samples under electron beam irradiation for a total dose of 200 kGy at different dose fractionations. The samples were irradiated with a commercial electron beam accelerator and total dose was applied at different number of passes under the beam. Peak temperatures by beam heating obtained during irradiation varied significantly with different amounts of energy deposited per pass. For one-pass irradiation (200 kGy), the peak temperature recorded exceeded the polycarbonate's glass transition temperature.  相似文献

Results of the characterization studies on a power bipolar transistor investigated as a possible radiation dosimeter under laboratory condition using electron beams of energies from 2.2 to 8.6 MeV and gamma rays from a 60Co source and tested in industrial irradiation plants having high-activity 60Co γ-source and high-energy, high-power electron beam have previously been reported. The present paper describes recent studies performed on this type of bipolar transistor irradiated with 1.9 and 2.2 MeV electron beams in the dose range 5–50 kGy. Dose response, post-irradiation heat treatment and stability, effects of temperature during irradiation in the range from –104 to +22 °C, dependence on temperature during reading in the range 20–50 °C, and the difference in response of the transistors irradiated from the plastic side and the copper side are reported. DLTS measurements performed on the irradiated devices to identify the recombination centres introduced by radiation and their dependence on dose and energy of the electron beam are also reported.  相似文献

The post-irradiation dielectric behaviour of different polyethylenes (PEs) has been studied by means of dielectric loss (tan δ) analysis over the wide temperature (25–325 K) and frequency (1 kHz–1 MHz) ranges. For this reason, low density polyethylene (LDPE), linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) samples were previously gamma irradiated in air to absorbed dose of 300 kGy. The irradiated samples were divided into two groups, and for the first one annealing treatment which can substantially reduce the concentration of free radicals were employed. For the second group, e.g. samples stored in air at room temperature after irradiation, post-irradiation evolution in free radical concentration, dielectric relaxation spectra and carbonyl content was investigated as a function of storage time, up to 90 days. Dielectric relaxation behaviour is related to differences in the initial structures of PEs (such as branching, crystallinity, etc.) and to the radiation-induced effects; carbonyl groups that were introduced by irradiation and/or delayed (post-irradiation) oxidation were regarded as tracer groups. Electron spin resonance (ESR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), infrared (IR) spectroscopy and gel measurements were used to determine the changes in free radical concentration, crystal fraction, oxidation and degree of network formation, respectively.  相似文献

TiO2 has been widely utilized for various industrial applications such as photochemical cells, photocatalysts, and electrochromic devices. The crystallinity and morphology of TiO2 films play a significant role in determining the overall efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In this study, the preparation of nanostructured TiO2 films by electron beam irradiation and their characterization were investigated for the application of DSSCs. TiO2 films were exposed to 20–100 kGy of electron beam irradiation using 1.14 MeV energy acceleration with a 7.46 mA beam current and 10 kGy/pass dose rates. These samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. After irradiation, each TiO2 film was tested as a DSSC. At low doses of electron beam irradiation (20 kGy), the energy conversion efficiency of the film was approximately 4.0% under illumination of simulated sunlight with AM 1.5 G (100 mW/cm2). We found that electron beam irradiation resulted in surface modification of the TiO2 films, which could explain the observed increase in the conversion efficiency in irradiated versus non-irradiated films.  相似文献

The computer simulations based on Monte Carlo (MC) method and the ModeCEB software were carried out in connection with electron beam (EB) radiation set-up for crosslinking of electric wire and cable insulation. The theoretical predictions for absorbed dose distribution in irradiated electric insulation induced by scanned EB were compared to the experimental results of irradiation that was carried out in the experimental set-up based on ILU 6 electron accelerator with electron energy 0.5–2.0 MeV.The computer simulation of the dose distributions in two-sided irradiation system by a scanned electron beam in multilayer circular objects was performed for various process parameters, namely electric wire and cable geometry (thickness of insulation layers and copper wire diameter), type of polymer insulation, electron energy, energy spread and geometry of electron beam, electric wire and cable layout in irradiation zone. The geometry of electron beam distribution in the irradiation zone was measured using CTA and PVC foil dosimeters for available electron energy range. The temperature rise of the irradiated electric wire and irradiation homogeneity were evaluated for different experimental conditions to optimize technological process parameters. The results of computer simulation are consistent with the experimental data of dose distribution evaluated by gel-fraction measurements. Such conformity indicates that ModeCEB computer simulation is reliable and sufficient for optimization absorbed dose distribution in the multi-layer circular objects irradiated with scanned electron beams.  相似文献

Electron-beam irradiation considered on advanced oxidation process induces the decomposition of pollutants in industrial effluent. Experiments were conducted using a radiation dynamics electron beam accelerator with 1.5 MeV energy and 37 kW power. The effluent samples from an industrial complex were irradiated using the IPEN's liquid effluent irradiation pilot plant. The experiments were conducted using one sample from each of eight separate industrial units and five samples of a mixture of these units. The physical–chemical characterization of these samples is presented. The electron beam irradiation was efficient in destroying the organic compounds delivered in these effluents, mainly, chloroform, dichloroethane, methyl isobutyl ketone, toluene, xylene and phenol. The necessary dose to remove 90% of the most organic compounds from industry effluent was 20 kGy. The removal of organic compounds from this complex mixture was explained by the destruction G value (Gd) that was obtained for those compounds with different initial concentrations and was compared with literature.  相似文献

The aim of this article was to determine and compare the influence of trimethylopropane trimethacylate (TMPTA) and trially isocyanurate (TAIC) crosslinking agents on thermal and mechanical properties of electron beam irradiated polylactide (PLA). The blends were made of PLA mixed with 3 wt% of TMPTA (PLA/TMPTA), and PLA mixed with 3 wt% of TAIC (PLA/TAIC). Injection moulded samples were irradiated with the use of high energy (10 MeV) electron beam at various radiation doses to crosslinking PLA macromolecules. Thermal and mechanical properties were investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), tensile strength, and impact strength measurements. The samples were also characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). It was found that under the influence of electron irradiation PLA/TMPTA samples underwent degradation while PLA/TAIC samples became crosslinked. Tensile and impact strengths of PLA/TMPTA samples decreased with increasing radiation dose while an enhancement of these properties for PLA/TAIC samples was observed.  相似文献

Mechanical, thermal, chemical decomposition and electron spin resonance (ESR) methods were used to study electron beam irradiated polypropylene syringe barrels that were irradiated to a total fractionated dose of 0, 20, 40, 60, and 80 kGy (in steps of 20 kGy). Dose mapping was conducted to determine dose to and through the syringe barrel. Analysis of these data indicated that degradation of the polypropylene syringes increased with an increase in electron beam irradiation.  相似文献

The radiation processing technology for industrial and environmental applications has been developed and used worldwide. In Latin America and the Caribbean and particularly in Brazil there are 24 and 16 industrial electron beam accelerators (EBA) respectively with energy from 200 keV to 10 MeV, operating in private companies and governmental institutions to enhance the physical and chemical properties of materials. However, there are more than 1500 high-current electron beam accelerators in commercial use throughout the world. The major needs and end-use markets for these electron beam (EB) units are R and D, wire and electric cables, heat shrinkable tubes and films, PE foams, tires, components, semiconductors and multilayer packaging films. Nowadays, the emerging opportunities in Latin America and the Caribbean are paints, adhesives and coatings cure in order to eliminate VOCs and for less energy use than thermal process; disinfestations of seeds; and films and multilayer packaging irradiation. For low-energy EBA (from 150 keV to 300 keV). For mid-energy EBA (from 300 keV to 5 MeV), they are flue gas treatment (SO2 and NOX removal); composite and nanocomposite materials; biodegradable composites based on biorenewable resources; human tissue sterilization; carbon and silicon carbide fibers irradiation; irradiated grafting ion-exchange membranes for fuel cells application; electrocatalysts nanoparticles production; and natural polymers irradiation and biodegradable blends production. For high-energy EBA (from 5 MeV to 10 MeV), they are sterilization of medical, pharmaceutical and biological products; gemstone enhancement; treatment of industrial and domestic effluents and sludge; preservation and disinfestations of foods and agricultural products; soil disinfestations; lignocellulosic material irradiation as a pretreatment to produce ethanol biofuel; decontamination of pesticide packing; solid residues remediation; organic compounds removal from wastewater; and treatment of effluent from petroleum production units and liquid irradiation process to treat vessel water ballast. On the other hand, there is a growing need of mobile EB facilities for different applications in South America.  相似文献

Size-controlled large scale synthesis of silver nanoparticles was performed using Ag(I)–S12 inorganic-organic hybrid polymer with supramolecular structures though electron beam irradiation. The Ag(I)–S12 polymer was simply prepared by mixing dodecanethiol with the solution of silver salts. The silver nanoparticles with various sizes were prepared from Ag(I)–S12 polymer with an electron beam voltage from 0.3 MeV to 2 MeV, current from 0.06 mA to 0.48 mA, and/or irradiation time from 1 to 10 min. The morphology and chemical composition of the irradiated samples were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR).  相似文献

Radiation induced acid doping of PANI to generate electrical conductivity was achieved by radiation induced HCl release from chlorinated-polyisoprene (ClPIP). Blends of PANI with ClPIP were prepared by mechanical mixing/grinding in the composition range of 9–43% ClPIP by weight and pelletized under 10 t press. The pellets were irradiated in 60Co Gammacell in air at room temperature to doses up to 300 kGy. The maximum electrical conductivity increase was observed for the blend PANI43 which changed from 10?10 to 10?4 S cm?1 when it was irradiated to 300 kGy dose. Radiation induced changes on the blends were also studied by UV–vis spectroscopy using reflection technique and FTIR spectroscopy. The broad absorption band in the visible range (630 nm) increased by increasing irradiation dose. The band (1110 cm?1) in the IR spectra which is indicative of conductivity showed linear correlation with irradiation dose.  相似文献

This study was conducted to compare effects of electron beam (EB) and gamma ray (GR) treatments at doses of 25, 50 and 75 kGy on ruminal degradation kinetics of crude protein (CP), amino acid (AA), and in vitro digestibility of cottonseed meal (CSM). Ionizing radiations of EB and GR had significant effects (P<0.05) on CP and AA ruminal degradability characteristics of CSM. Effective ruminal degradability (ERD) of CP was lower in EB and GR irradiated CSM (P<0.05) than in unirradiated CSM. GR and EB treatments had the same effects on ERD decreasing of CP (P>0.05). Irradiation processing caused decrement in AA degradation after 16 h of ruminal incubation (P<0.05). EB irradiation was more effective than GR irradiation in lessening the ruminal degradability of AA (P<0.05). EB and GR treatments at a dose of 75 kGy increased in vitro digestibility of CSM numerically. This study showed that EB could cause CP and AA bypass rumen as well as GR. Therefore, ionizing irradiation processing can be used as an efficient method in improving nutritional value of CSM.  相似文献

The effect of electron beam irradiation on the blends of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and poly dimethyl siloxane rubber (PDMS) prepared over a wide range of compositions starting from 70:30 to 30:70 (LLDPE: PDMS) by varying the radiation doses from 50 to 300 kGy has been studied. The dynamic modulii and dielectric strength of the blends increase on irradiation at 100 kGy as compared to that for the unirradiated blends. Degree of crystallinity and melting behaviour remain unchanged upon irradiation upto a dose of 100 kGy, beyond which it decreases. Thermal stability increases with increase in the proportion of PDMS rubber in the blend as well as on irradiation at 100 kGy. The phase morphology of the blends examined under the SEM exhibit two phase morphology before electron beam irradiation, whereas single phase morphology is observed after electron beam irradiation due to intra- as well as inter-molecular crosslinking leading to a miscible system.  相似文献

Decomposition of PCBs in commercially used transformer oil used for more than 30 years has been carried out at normal temperature and pressure without any additives using an electron beam accelerator. The experiments were carried out in two ways: batch and continuous pilot plant with 1.5 MeV of energy, a 50 mA current, and 75 kW of power in a commercial scale accelerator. The electron beam irradiation seemed to transform large molecular weight compounds into lower ones, but the impact was considered too small on the physical properties of oil. Residual concentrations of PCBs after irradiation depend on the absorption dose of the electron beam energy, but aliphatic chloride compounds were produced at higher doses of irradiation. As the results from FT-NMR, chloride ions decomposed from the PCBs are likely to react with aliphatic hydro carbon compounds rather than existing as free radical ions in the transformer oil. Since this is a dry process, treated oil can be used as cutting oil or machine oil for heavy equipment without any additional treatments.  相似文献

The effect of electron beam irradiation on the microstructure of cellulose has been investigated using positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) Spectroscopy. PALS studies of irradiated cellulose samples showed that ortho-positronium (o-Ps) lifetime increases with an increase in dose up to 80 kGy and decreases at higher doses. The EPR signal of the irradiated cellulose matrix showed the presence of multiple radical sites. These results are discussed on the basis of chemical and physical changes occurring at the microscopic level in the cellulose due to irradiation.  相似文献

The decomposition of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using a pilot system of electron beam (EB)–catalyst coupling was investigated. Two aromatic VOCs, toluene (1800 ppmC) and o-xylene (1500 ppmC), were irradiated with a dose range of 0–10 kGy at room temperature. The removal efficiencies for toluene and o-xylene were 92.4% and 94.5%, respectively, under a 10 kGy absorbed dose condition, which were higher than the results of 45.7% and 52.3% when EB-only was used, respectively. The CO2 selectivity approached 100% for both toluene and o-xylene using the EB-catalyst coupling system, while the concentrations of O3 formed were 0.02 ppm (toluene) and 0.003 ppm (o-xylene) at 10 kGy. The aerosol concentration was also measured as 43.2 μg/m3 (toluene) and 53.4 μg/m3 (o-xylene) at 10 kGy absorbed dose.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to determine the impact of electron beam (EB) irradiation at doses of 15, 30 and 45 kGy on the nutritional value of canola meal. The phytic acid and total glucosinolate content of EB-irradiated canola meal decreased as irradiation doses increased (P<0.01). From in situ results, irradiation of canola meal at doses of 45 kGy decreased (P<0.05) the effective degradibility of crude protein (CP) by 14%, compared with an untreated sample. In vitro CP digestibility of EB-irradiated canola meal at doses of 15 and 30 kGy was improved (P<0.05). Electrophoresis results showed that napin and cruciferin sub-units of 30 and 45 kGy EB-irradiated canola meal were more resistant to degradation, compared with an untreated sample. Electron beam irradiation was effective in protecting CP from ruminal degradation and reducing antinutritional factors of irradiated canola meal.  相似文献

Thin films of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) are of great economical importance and their production is quite challenging due to the need of very fast uniaxial or biaxial expansion. During the expansion, critical problems usually arise, like structure disruption, shear thinning, causing material, energy and time losses. This work aims to study the surface morphology and compare the thermal, mechanical properties of PP films irradiated by gamma ray in an acetylene atmosphere after uniaxial expansion. PP films were made by compression molding at 190 °C with cooling in water at room temperature and irradiated by gamma ray, at (5, 12.5 and 20 kGy) under acetylene atmosphere. After irradiation the samples were submitted to thermal treatment at 90 °C for 1 h and then stretched out at 170 °C using an Instron machine. The surface of PP films, pristine and modified, (i.e., irradiated), was studied using optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The changes in morphology, crystallinity and tensile parameters, like yield stress, rupture stress and elongation strain of the PP with irradiation dose were investigated. The results showed some evidences of gel formation due to crosslinking and/or long chain branching induced by radiation.  相似文献

Methylsilicone resin as a polymer precursor for a SiOC ceramic material was cured and foamed by electron beam (EB) irradiation in air prior to the pyrolysis under an inert atmosphere. Methylsilicone foams were obtained without additional foaming agent when exposed to accelerated electrons with radiation doses up to 9 MGy and dose rate of 2.8 kGy/s. During irradiation the polymer was melted and simultaneously gaseous products were formed by the methyl group oxidation and by the poly-condensation crosslinking reactions. The formed gases could not escape from the molten polymer and began to aggregate into bubbles. The effect of the radiation dose on the polymer foam molecular structure, the gel fraction and the ceramic yield was analyzed. The results indicate that the maximum amount of crosslinking in methylsilicone, when EB radiation is used, occurred between 1.0 and 2.0 MGy radiation dose. Methylsilicone foams were pyrolysed in N2 atmosphere at temperatures of 1200 and 1500 °C, resulting in amorphous SiOC and partially crystalline ceramic foams, respectively. A porosity of ~84% was achieved in the pyrolyzed foams, with cell size ranging from 30 to 300 μm and density of about 0.31 g cm?3.  相似文献

In this research, the absorbed dose, background gases, relative humidity, and initial concentrations were selected as control factors to discover decomposition characteristics of styrene using electron beam irradiation. It was confirmed that a considerable amount of styrene was removed by primary electrons as well as radicals and ions, which were produced after the electron beam irradiation. Moreover, the removal efficiencies of styrene were observed to rise when the initial concentration was lower, moisture content was higher, and the absorbed dose increased. For instance, 50 ppmv styrene showed extremely high removal efficiency (over 98%) at a condition of 2.5 kGy. A small amount of styrene oxide, benzaldehyde, aerosol, CO, and CO2 were produced as by-products after EB irradiation.  相似文献
