An edge‐colored graph H is properly colored if no two adjacent edges of H have the same color. In 1997, J. Bang‐Jensen and G. Gutin conjectured that an edge‐colored complete graph G has a properly colored Hamilton path if and only if G has a spanning subgraph consisting of a properly colored path C0 and a (possibly empty) collection of properly colored cycles C1,C2,…, Cd such that provided . We prove this conjecture.

For an edge‐colored graph, its minimum color degree is defined as the minimum number of colors appearing on the edges incident to a vertex and its maximum monochromatic degree is defined as the maximum number of edges incident to a vertex with a same color. A cycle is called properly colored if every two of its adjacent edges have distinct colors. In this article, we first give a minimum color degree condition for the existence of properly colored cycles, then obtain the minimum color degree condition for an edge‐colored complete graph to contain properly colored triangles. Afterwards, we characterize the structure of an edge‐colored complete bipartite graph without containing properly colored cycles of length 4 and give the minimum color degree and maximum monochromatic degree conditions for an edge‐colored complete bipartite graph to contain properly colored cycles of length 4, and those passing through a given vertex or edge, respectively.

Let γ(G) be the domination number of graph G, thus a graph G is k‐edge‐critical if γ (G) = k, and for every nonadjacent pair of vertices u and υ, γ(G + uυ) = k?1. In Chapter 16 of the book “Domination in Graphs—Advanced Topics,” D. Sumner cites a conjecture of E. Wojcicka under the form “3‐connected 4‐critical graphs are Hamiltonian and perhaps, in general (i.e., for any k ≥ 4), (k?1)‐connected, k‐edge‐critical graphs are Hamiltonian.” In this paper, we prove that the conjecture is not true for k = 4 by constructing a class of 3‐connected 4‐edge‐critical non‐Hamiltonian graphs.

Let X be a vertex‐transitive graph, that is, the automorphism group Aut(X) of X is transitive on the vertex set of X. The graph X is said to be symmetric if Aut(X) is transitive on the arc set of X. suppose that Aut(X) has two orbits of the same length on the arc set of X. Then X is said to be half‐arc‐transitive or half‐edge‐transitive if Aut(X) has one or two orbits on the edge set of X, respectively. Stabilizers of symmetric and half‐arc‐transitive graphs have been investigated by many authors. For example, see Tutte [Canad J Math 11 (1959), 621–624] and Conder and Maru?i? [J Combin Theory Ser B 88 (2003), 67–76]. It is trivial to construct connected tetravalent symmetric graphs with arbitrarily large stabilizers, and by Maru?i? [Discrete Math 299 (2005), 180–193], connected tetravalent half‐arc‐transitive graphs can have arbitrarily large stabilizers. In this article, we show that connected tetravalent half‐edge‐transitive graphs can also have arbitrarily large stabilizers. A Cayley graph Cay(G, S) on a group G is said to be normal if the right regular representation R(G) of G is normal in Aut(Cay(G, S)). There are only a few known examples of connected tetravalent non‐normal Cayley graphs on non‐abelian simple groups. In this article, we give a sufficient condition for non‐normal Cayley graphs and by using the condition, infinitely many connected tetravalent non‐normal Cayley graphs are constructed. As an application, all connected tetravalent non‐normal Cayley graphs on the alternating group A6 are determined.

令 $\Delta^{mon}
B. Bollob\'{a}s和P. Erd\"{o}s (1976) 提出了如下猜想:若 $\Delta^{{mon}}

By Petersen's theorem, a bridgeless cubic graph has a 2‐factor. H. Fleischner extended this result to bridgeless graphs of minimum degree at least three by showing that every such graph has a spanning even subgraph. Our main result is that, under the stronger hypothesis of 3‐edge‐connectivity, we can find a spanning even subgraph in which every component has at least five vertices. We show that this is in some sense best possible by constructing an infinite family of 3‐edge‐connected graphs in which every spanning even subgraph has a 5‐cycle as a component. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An edge‐labeling f of a graph G is an injection from E(G) to the set of integers. The edge‐bandwidth of G is B′(G) = minf {B′(f)} where B′(f) is the maximum difference between labels of incident edges of G. The theta graph Θ(l1,…,lm) is the graph consisting of m pairwise internally disjoint paths with common endpoints and lengths l1 ≤ ··· ≤ lm. We determine the edge‐bandwidth of all theta graphs. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Graph Theory 35: 89–98, 2000  相似文献

A face of an edge‐colored plane graph is called rainbow if the number of colors used on its edges is equal to its size. The maximum number of colors used in an edge coloring of a connected plane graph Gwith no rainbow face is called the edge‐rainbowness of G. In this paper we prove that the edge‐rainbowness of Gequals the maximum number of edges of a connected bridge face factor H of G, where a bridge face factor H of a plane graph Gis a spanning subgraph H of Gin which every face is incident with a bridge and the interior of any one face fF(G) is a subset of the interior of some face f′∈F(H). We also show upper and lower bounds on the edge‐rainbowness of graphs based on edge connectivity, girth of the dual graphs, and other basic graph invariants. Moreover, we present infinite classes of graphs where these equalities are attained. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 62: 84–99, 2009  相似文献

A graph G of order at least 2n+2 is said to be n‐extendable if G has a perfect matching and every set of n independent edges extends to a perfect matching in G. We prove that every pair of nonadjacent vertices x and y in a connected n‐extendable graph of order p satisfy degG x+degG yp ? n ? 1, then either G is hamiltonian or G is isomorphic to one of two exceptional graphs. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An odd k‐edge‐coloring of a graph G is a (not necessarily proper) edge‐coloring with at most k colors such that each nonempty color class induces a graph in which every vertex is of odd degree. Pyber (1991) showed that every simple graph is odd 4‐edge‐colorable, and Lužar et al. (2015) showed that connected loopless graphs are odd 5‐edge‐colorable, with one particular exception that is odd 6‐edge‐colorable. In this article, we prove that connected loopless graphs are odd 4‐edge‐colorable, with two particular exceptions that are respectively odd 5‐ and odd 6‐edge‐colorable. Moreover, a color class can be reduced to a size at most 2.

Let G be a graph and let V0 = {ν∈ V(G): dG(ν) = 6}. We show in this paper that: (i) if G is a 6‐connected line graph and if |V0| ≤ 29 or G[V0] contains at most 5 vertex disjoint K4's, then G is Hamilton‐connected; (ii) every 8‐connected claw‐free graph is Hamilton‐connected. Several related results known before are generalized. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory  相似文献

For a graph G, let p(G) denote the order of a longest path in G and c(G) the order of a longest cycle in G, respectively. We show that if G is a 3‐connected graph of order n such that for every independent set {x1, x2, x3, x4}, then G satisfies c(G)p(G) ? 1. Using this result, we give several lower bounds to the circumference of a 3‐connected graph. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Graph Theory 37: 137–156, 2001  相似文献

A sequence r1, r2, …, r2n such that ri=rn+ i for all 1≤in is called a repetition. A sequence S is called non‐repetitive if no block (i.e. subsequence of consecutive terms of S) is a repetition. Let G be a graph whose edges are colored. A trail is called non‐repetitive if the sequence of colors of its edges is non‐repetitive. If G is a plane graph, a facial non‐repetitive edge‐coloring of G is an edge‐coloring such that any facial trail (i.e. a trail of consecutive edges on the boundary walk of a face) is non‐repetitive. We denote π′f(G) the minimum number of colors of a facial non‐repetitive edge‐coloring of G. In this article, we show that π′f(G)≤8 for any plane graph G. We also get better upper bounds for π′f(G) in the cases when G is a tree, a plane triangulation, a simple 3‐connected plane graph, a hamiltonian plane graph, an outerplanar graph or a Halin graph. The bound 4 for trees is tight. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 66: 38–48, 2010  相似文献

Two resolutions R and R of a combinatorial design are called orthogonal if |RiR|≤1 for all RiR and RR. A set Q={R1, R2, …, Rd} of d resolutions of a combinatorial design is called a set of mutually orthogonal resolutions (MORs) if the resolutions of Q are pairwise orthogonal. In this paper, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the asymptotic existence of a (v, k, 1)‐BIBD with d mutually orthogonal resolutions for d≥2 and k≥3 and necessary and sufficient conditions for the asymptotic existence of a (v, k, k?1)‐BIBD with d mutually orthogonal near resolutions for d≥2 and k≥3. We use complementary designs and the most general form of an asymptotic existence theorem for decompositions of edge‐colored complete digraphs into prespecified edge‐colored subgraphs. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The minimum leaf number ml(G) of a connected graph G is defined as the minimum number of leaves of the spanning trees of G if G is not hamiltonian and 1 if G is hamiltonian. We study nonhamiltonian graphs with the property for each or for each . These graphs will be called ‐leaf‐critical and l‐leaf‐stable, respectively. It is far from obvious whether such graphs exist; for example, the existence of 3‐leaf‐critical graphs (that turn out to be the so‐called hypotraceable graphs) was an open problem until 1975. We show that l‐leaf‐stable and l‐leaf‐critical graphs exist for every integer , moreover for n sufficiently large, planar l‐leaf‐stable and l‐leaf‐critical graphs exist on n vertices. We also characterize 2‐fragments of leaf‐critical graphs generalizing a lemma of Thomassen. As an application of some of the leaf‐critical graphs constructed, we settle an open problem of Gargano et al. concerning spanning spiders. We also explore connections with a family of graphs introduced by Grünbaum in correspondence with the problem of finding graphs without concurrent longest paths.
