Motivated by a neurobiological problem, we discuss a class of diffusion problems on a network. The celebrated Rall lumped soma model for the spread of electrical potential in a dendritical tree prescribes that the common cable equation must be coupled with particular dynamic conditions in some nodes (the cell bodies, or somata). We discuss the extension of this model to the case of a whole network of neurons, where the ramification nodes can be either active (with excitatory time‐dependent boundary conditions) or passive (where no dynamics take place, i.e. only Kirchhoff laws are imposed). While well‐posedness of the system has already been obtained in previous works, using abstract tools based on variational methods and semigroup theory we are able to prove several qualitative properties, including asymptotic behaviour, regularity of solutions, and monotonicity of the semigroups in dependence on the physical coefficients. Let us consider the operator where is positive and continuous in and is equipped with the so-called generalized Wentzell boundary condition which is of the form at each boundary point, where This class of boundary conditions strictly includes Dirichlet, Neumann and Robin conditions.

Under suitable assumptions on , we prove that generates a positive -semigroup on and, hence, many previous (linear or nonlinear) results are extended substantially.

This paper concerns the asymptotics of the linear wave equation with frictional damping only on Wentzell boundary in the square. After reformulating the model into an abstract Cauchy problem, we show that the spectrum for the corresponding operator matrix has no purely imaginary values. Moreover, by analyzing a family of eigenvalues for the operator matrix, we prove that there exists a solution of the system, whose energy decay rate can be arbitrarily slow.  相似文献

In this paper we relate the generator property of an operator A with (abstract) generalized Wentzell boundary conditions on a Banach space X and its associated (abstract) Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann operator N acting on a “boundary” space . Our approach is based on similarity transformations and perturbation arguments and allows to split A into an operator A00 with Dirichlet‐type boundary conditions on a space X0 of states having “zero trace” and the operator N. If A00 generates an analytic semigroup, we obtain under a weak Hille–Yosida type condition that A generates an analytic semigroup on X if and only if N does so on . Here we assume that the (abstract) “trace” operator is bounded that is typically satisfied if X is a space of continuous functions. Concrete applications are made to various second order differential operators.  相似文献

We deal with the problem of analyticity for the semigroup generated by the second order differential operator Auαu″ + βu′ (or by some restrictions of it) in the spaces Lp(0, 1), with or without weight, and in W1,p(0, 1), 1 < p < ∞. Here α and β are assumed real‐valued and continuous in [0, 1], with α(x) > 0 in (0, 1), and the domain of A is determined by the generalized Neumann boundary conditions and by Wentzell boundary conditions.  相似文献

In this paper, we deal with the mixed initial boundary value problem for complete second order (in time) linear differential equations in Banach spaces, in which time-derivatives occur in the boundary conditions. General wellposedness theorems are obtained (for the first time), which are used to solve the corresponding inhomogeneous problems. Examples of applications to initial boundary value problems for partial differential equations are also presented.  相似文献

We consider the stabilization of the electromagneto‐elastic system with Wentzell conditions in a bounded domain of . Using the multiplier method we prove an exponential stability result under some geometric condition. Previous results of this type have recently been obtained for the coupled Maxwell/wave system with Wentzell conditions by H. Kasri and A. The evolution Boussinesq equations describe the evolution of the temperature and velocity fields of viscous incompressible Newtonian fluids. Very often, they are a reasonable model to render relevant phenomena of flows in which the thermal effects play an essential role. In the paper we prescribe non-Dirichlet boundary conditions on a part of the boundary and prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the Boussinesq equations on a (short) time interval. The length of the time interval depends only on certain norms of the given data. In the proof we use a fixed point theorem method in Sobolev spaces with non-integer order derivatives. The proof is performed for Lipschitz domains and a wide class of data.  相似文献

We define an abstract setting to treat wave equations equipped with time‐dependent acoustic boundary conditions on bounded domains of R n . We prove a well‐posedness result and develop a spectral theory which also allows to prove a conjecture proposed in [13]. Concrete problems are also discussed. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Let p∈(1,N), ΩRN a bounded W1,p-extension domain and let μ be an upper d-Ahlfors measure on ∂Ω with d∈(Np,N). We show in the first part that for every p∈[2N/(N+2),N)∩(1,N), a realization of the p-Laplace operator with (nonlinear) generalized nonlocal Robin boundary conditions generates a (nonlinear) strongly continuous submarkovian semigroup on L2(Ω), and hence, the associated first order Cauchy problem is well posed on Lq(Ω) for every q∈[1,∞). In the second part we investigate existence, uniqueness and regularity of weak solutions to the associated quasi-linear elliptic equation. More precisely, global a priori estimates of weak solutions are obtained.  相似文献

Let ΩRN be a bounded domain with Lipschitz boundary, with a>0 on . Let σ be the restriction to ∂Ω of the (N−1)-dimensional Hausdorff measure and let be σ-measurable in the first variable and assume that for σ-a.e. x∈∂Ω, B(x,⋅) is a proper, convex, lower semicontinuous functional. We study the solvability of nonlinear second order elliptic partial differential equations with nonlinear boundary conditions. We introduce the notion of “eigenvalue-lines” in the plane; these eigenvalue-lines join each Steklov eigenvalue to the first eigenvalue of the Neumann problem with homogeneous boundary condition. We prove existence results when the nonlinearities involved asymptotically stay, in some sense, below the first eigenvalue-lines or in a quadrilateral region (depicted in Fig. 1) enclosed by two consecutive eigenvalue-lines. As a special case we derive the so-called nonresonance results below the first Steklov eigenvalue as well as between two consecutive Steklov eigenvalues. The case in which the eigenvalue-lines join each Neumann eigenvalue to the first Steklov eigenvalue is also considered. Our method of proof is variational and relies mainly on minimax methods in critical point theory.  相似文献

In this paper, the higher order asymptotic behaviors of boundary blow-up solutions to the equation■in bounded smooth domain■are systematically investigated for p and q.The second and third order boundary behaviours of the equation are derived. The results show the role of the mean curvature of the boundary■and its gradient in the high order asymptotic expansions of the solutions.  相似文献

We consider a nonconforming hp -finite element approximation of a variational formulation of the time-harmonic Maxwell equations with impedance boundary conditions proposed by Costabel et al. The advantages of this formulation is that the variational space is embedded in H1 as soon as the boundary is smooth enough (in particular it holds for domains with an analytic boundary) and standard shift theorem can be applied since the associated boundary value problem is elliptic. Finally in order to perform a wavenumber explicit error analysis of our problem, a splitting lemma and an estimation of the adjoint approximation quantity are proved by adapting to our system the results from Melenk and Sauter obtained for the Helmholtz equation. Some numerical tests that illustrate our theoretical results are also presented. Analytic regularity results with bounds explicit in the wavenumber of the solution of a general elliptic system with lower order terms depending on the wavenumber are needed and hence proved.  相似文献

We prove the existence of convex classical solutions for a general multidimensional, multilayer free-boundary problem. The geometric context of this problem is a nested family of closed, convex surfaces. Except for the innermost and outermost surfaces, which are given, these surfaces are interpreted as unknown layer-interfaces, where the layers are the bounded annular domains between them. Each unknown interface is characterized by a quite general nonlinear equation, called a joining condition, which relates the first derivatives (along the interface) of the capacitary potentials in the two adjoining layers, as well as the spatial variables. A well-known special case of this problem involves several stationary, immiscible, two-dimensional flows of ideal fluid, related along their interfaces by Bernoulli's law.

This paper is devoted to the functional analytic approach to the problem of existence of Markov processes with Dirichlet boundary condition, oblique derivative boundary condition and first-order Wentzell boundary condition for second-order, uniformly elliptic differential operators with discontinuous coefficients. More precisely, we construct Feller semigroups associated with absorption, reflection, drift and sticking phenomena at the boundary. The approach here is distinguished by the extensive use of the ideas and techniques characteristic of the recent developments in the Calderon- Zygmund theory of singular integral operators with non-smooth kernels.  相似文献
