The aim of this paper is to propose mixed two‐grid finite difference methods to obtain the numerical solution of the one‐dimensional and two‐dimensional Fitzhugh–Nagumo equations. The finite difference equations at all interior grid points form a large‐sparse linear system, which needs to be solved efficiently. The solution cost of this sparse linear system usually dominates the total cost of solving the discretized partial differential equation. The proposed method is based on applying a family of finite difference methods for discretizing the spatial and time derivatives. The obtained system has been solved by two‐grid method, where the two‐grid method is used for solving the large‐sparse linear systems. Also, in the proposed method, the spectral radius with local Fourier analysis is calculated for different values of h and Δt. The numerical examples show the efficiency of this algorithm for solving the one‐dimensional and two‐dimensional Fitzhugh–Nagumo equations. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, homotopy perturbation method (HPM) and variational iteration method (VIM) are applied to solve nonlinear oscillator differential equations. Illustrative examples reveal that these methods are very effective and convenient for solving nonlinear differential equations. Moreover, the methods do not require linearization or small perturbation. Comparisons are also made between the exact solutions and the results of the homotopy perturbation method and variational iteration method in order to prove the precision of the results obtained from both methods mentioned.  相似文献

In this paper, the homotopy-perturbation method (HPM) is employed to obtain approximate analytical solutions of the Klein–Gordon and sine-Gordon equations. An efficient way of choosing the initial approximation is presented. Comparisons with the exact solutions, the solutions obtained by the Adomian decomposition method (ADM) and the variational iteration method (VIM) show the potential of HPM in solving nonlinear partial differential equations.  相似文献

The (constrained) canonical reduction of four-dimensional self-dual Yang–Mills theory to two-dimensional Fitzhugh–Nagumo and the real Newell–Whitehead equations are considered. On the other hand, other methods and transformations are developed to obtain exact solutions for the original two-dimensional Fitzhugh–Nagumo and Newell–Whitehead equations. The corresponding gauge potential Aμ and the gauge field strengths Fμν are also obtained. New explicit and exact traveling wave and solitary solutions (for Fitzhugh–Nagumo and Newell–Whitehead equations) are obtained by using an improved sine-cosine method and the Wu’s elimination method with the aid of Mathematica.  相似文献

Perturbation methods depend on a small parameter which is difficult to be found for real-life nonlinear problems. To overcome this shortcoming, two new but powerful analytical methods are introduced to solve nonlinear heat transfer problems in this article; one is He's variational iteration method (VIM) and the other is the homotopy-perturbation method (HPM). The VIM is to construct correction functionals using general Lagrange multipliers identified optimally via the variational theory, and the initial approximations can be freely chosen with unknown constants. The HPM deforms a difficult problem into a simple problem which can be easily solved. Nonlinear convective–radiative cooling equation, nonlinear heat equation (porous media equation) and nonlinear heat equation with cubic nonlinearity are used as examples to illustrate the simple solution procedures. Comparison of the applied methods with exact solutions reveals that both methods are tremendously effective.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an analytical method and a modification of explicit exponential finite difference method (EEFDM) for analytical and numerical solutions of the Fitzhugh–Nagumo (FN) and Newell–Whitehead (NW) equations. The method is improved computationally by using the Padé approximation technique. Furthermore, multistability behavior of traveling wave solutions of the FN and NW equations are examined in presence of external forcing. It is observed that there exist coexisting periodic and quasiperiodic orbits for the FN equation, where as only quasiperiodic orbits is observed in case of NW equation.  相似文献

A new analytic algorithm for highly nonlinear time fractional reaction–diffusion equations is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is an amalgamation of variational iteration method (VIM), Adomian decomposition method (ADM) and further refined by introducing a new correction functional. This new correction functional is obtained from the standard correction functional of VIM by introducing an auxiliary parameter γ and an auxiliary function H(x) in it. Further, a sequence Gn(x, t), with suitably chosen support, is also introduced in the new correction functional. The algorithm is easy to implement and only four to six iterations are sufficient for fairly accurate solutions. The algorithm is tested on Fitzhugh – Nagumo and generalized Fisher equations with nonlinearity ranging from 2 to 5.  相似文献

In this paper the problem of fully developed laminar steady forced convection inside a porous‐saturated pipe with uniform wall temperature is presented and the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) and the variational iteration method (VIM) are employed to solve the differential equations governing the problem. The obtained results are valid for the whole solution domain with high accuracy. These methods can be easily extended to other linear and nonlinear equations and so can be found widely applicable in engineering and science. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, a Laplace homotopy perturbation method is employed for solving one-dimensional non-homogeneous partial differential equations with a variable coefficient. This method is a combination of the Laplace transform and the Homotopy Perturbation Method (LHPM). LHPM presents an accurate methodology to solve non-homogeneous partial differential equations with a variable coefficient. The aim of using the Laplace transform is to overcome the deficiency that is mainly caused by unsatisfied conditions in other semi-analytical methods such as HPM, VIM, and ADM. The approximate solutions obtained by means of LHPM in a wide range of the problem’s domain were compared with those results obtained from the actual solutions, the Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM) and the finite element method. The comparison shows a precise agreement between the results, and introduces this new method as an applicable one which it needs fewer computations and is much easier and more convenient than others, so it can be widely used in engineering too.  相似文献

In this article, Laplace decomposition method (LDM) is applied to obtain series solutions of classical Blasius equation. The technique is based on the application of Laplace transform to nonlinear Blasius flow equation. The nonlinear term can easily be handled with the help of Adomian polynomials. The results of the present technique have closed agreement with series solutions obtained with the help of Adomian decomposition method (ADM), variational iterative method (VIM) and homotopy perturbation method (HPM).  相似文献

An application of the Exp-function method to search for exact solutions of nonlinear differential equations is analyzed. Typical mistakes of application of the Exp-function method are demonstrated. We show it is often required to simplify the exact solutions obtained. Possibilities of the Exp-function method and other approaches in mathematical physics are discussed. The application of the singular manifold method for finding exact solutions of the Fitzhugh–Nagumo equation is illustrated. The modified simplest equation method is introduced. This approach is used to look for exact solutions of the generalized Korteweg–de Vries equation.  相似文献

In this paper, approximate and/or exact analytical solutions of the generalized Emden–Fowler type equations in the second-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are obtained by homotopy-perturbation method (HPM). The homotopy-perturbation method (HPM) is a coupling of the perturbation method and the homotopy method. The main feature of the HPM is that it deforms a difficult problem into a set of problems which are easier to solve. In this work, HPM yields solutions in convergent series forms with easily computable terms, and in some cases, only one iteration leads to the high accuracy of the solutions. Comparisons with the exact solutions and the solutions obtained by the Adomian decomposition method (ADM) show the efficiency of HPM in solving equations with singularity.  相似文献

In this article, the problem of Burgers equation is presented and the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) is employed to compute an approximation to the solution of the system of nonlinear differential equations governing on the problem. Comparison is made between the HPM and Exact solutions. The obtained solutions, in comparison with the exact solutions, admit a remarkable accuracy. A clear conclusion can be drawn from the numerical results that the HPM provides highly accurate numerical solutions for nonlinear differential equations. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, homotopy perturbation method (HPM) has been used to solve homogeneous Smoluchowsk's equation. The results will be compared with Adomian decomposition method (ADM). It is shown that the results of the HPM are the same as those obtained by ADM. To illustrate the reliability of the method, some special cases of the equation have been solved as examples. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2010  相似文献

In this paper, a scheme is developed to study numerical solution of the space- and time-fractional Burgers equations with initial conditions by the variational iteration method (VIM). The exact and numerical solutions obtained by the variational iteration method are compared with that obtained by Adomian decomposition method (ADM). The results show that the variational iteration method is much easier, more convenient, and more stable and efficient than Adomian decomposition method. Numerical solutions are calculated for the fractional Burgers equation to show the nature of solution as the fractional derivative parameter is changed.  相似文献

In this study, linear and nonlinear partial differential equations with the nonhomogeneous initial conditions are considered. We used Variational iteration method (VIM) and Homotopy perturbation method (HPM) for solving these equations. Both methods are used to obtain analytic solutions for different types of differential equations. Four examples are presented to show the application of the present techniques. In these schemes, the solution takes the form of a convergent series with easily computable components. The present methods perform extremely well in terms of efficiency and simplicity. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 2010  相似文献

In this paper, we apply He''s Variational iteration method (VIM) for solving nonlinear Newell-Whitehead-Segel equation. By using this method three different cases of Newell-Whitehead-Segel equation have been discussed. Comparison of the obtained result with exact solutions shows that the method used is an effective and highly promising method for solving different cases of nonlinear Newell-Whitehead-Segel equation.  相似文献

This attempt presents the series solution of second Painlevé equation by homotopy analysis method (HAM). Comparison of HAM solution is provided with that of the Adomian decomposition method (ADM), homotopy perturbation method (HPM), analytic continuation method, and Legendre Tau method. It is revealed that there is very good agreement between the analytic continuation and HAM solutions when compared with ADM, HPM, and Legendre Tau solutions. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article aims to establish a semi-analytical approach based on the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) to find the closed form or approximated solutions for the population balance equations such as Smoluchowski"s coagulation, fragmentation, coupled coagulation-fragmentation and bivariate coagulation equations. An accelerated form of the HPM is combined with the Elzaki transformation to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the method. One of the significant advantages of the technique lies over the classic numerical methods as it allows solving the linear and non-linear differential equations without discretization. Further, it has benefits over the existing semi-analytical techniques such as Adomian decomposition method (ADM), optimized decomposition method (ODM), and homotopy analysis method (HAM) in the sense that computation of Adomian polynomials and convergence parameters are not required. The novelty of the scheme is shown by comparing the numerical findings with the existing results obtained via ADM, HPM, HAM and ODM for non-linear coagulation equation. This motivates us to extend the scheme for solving the other models mentioned above. The supremacy of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by taking several numerical examples for each problem. The error between exact and series solutions provided in graphs and tables show the accuracy and applicability of the method. In addition to this, convergence of the series solution is also the key attraction of the work.  相似文献

In this letter, we implement a relatively new analytical technique, the homotopy perturbation method (HPM), for solving linear partial differential equations of fractional order arising in fluid mechanics. The fractional derivatives are described in Caputo derivatives. This method can be used as an alternative to obtain analytic and approximate solutions of different types of fractional differential equations applied in engineering mathematics. The corresponding solutions of the integer order equations are found to follow as special cases of those of fractional order equations. Some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the efficiency and reliability of HPM. He's HPM, which does not need small parameter is implemented for solving the differential equations. In this method, a homotopy is introduced to be constructed for the equation. The initial approximations can be freely chosen with possible unknown constants that can be determined by imposing the boundary and initial conditions. It is predicted that HPM can be found widely applicable in engineering. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 2010  相似文献
