The paper concerns existence of weak solutions to the equations describing a motion of some non‐Newtonian fluids with non‐standard growth conditions of the Cauchy stress tensor. Motivated by the fluids of strongly inhomogeneous behavior and having the property of rapid shear thickening, we observe that the Lp framework is not suitable to capture the described situation. We describe the growth conditions with the help of general x‐dependent convex function. This formulation yields the existence of solutions in generalized Orlicz spaces. As examples of motivation for considering non‐Newtonian fluids in such spaces, we recall the electrorheological fluids, magnetorheological fluids, and shear thickening fluids. The existence of solutions is established by the generalization of the classical Minty method to non‐reflexive spaces. The result holds under the assumption that the lowest growth of the Cauchy stress is greater than the critical exponent q=(3d+ 2)/(d+ 2), where d is for space dimension. The restriction on the exponent q is forced by the convective term. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper global Hs‐ and Lp‐regularity results for the stationary and transient Maxwell equations with mixed boundary conditions in a bounded spatial domain are proved. First it is shown that certain elements belonging to the fractional‐order domain of the Maxwell operator belong to Hs(Ω) for sufficiently small s > 0. It follows from this regularity result that Hs(Ω) is an invariant subspace of the unitary group corresponding to the homogeneous Maxwell equations with mixed boundary conditions. In the case that a possibly non‐linear conductivity is present a Lp‐regularity theorem for the transient equations is proved. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We consider the Navier–Stokes system with variable density and variable viscosity coupled to a transport equation for an order‐parameter c. Moreover, an extra stress depending on c and ?c, which describes surface tension like effects, is included in the Navier–Stokes system. Such a system arises, e.g. for certain models of granular flows and as a diffuse interface model for a two‐phase flow of viscous incompressible fluids. The so‐called density‐dependent Navier–Stokes system is also a special case of our system. We prove short‐time existence of strong solution in Lq‐Sobolev spaces with q>d. We consider the case of a bounded domain and an asymptotically flat layer with a combination of a Dirichlet boundary condition and a free surface boundary condition. The result is based on a maximal regularity result for the linearized system. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We show some of the properties of the algebraic multilevel iterative methods when the hierarchical bases of finite elements (FEs) with rectangular supports are used for solving the elliptic boundary value problems. In particular, we study two types of hierarchies; the so‐called h‐ and p‐hierarchical FE spaces on a two‐dimensional domain. We compute uniform estimates of the strengthened Cauchy–Bunyakowski–Schwarz inequality constants for these spaces. Moreover, for diagonal blocks of the stiffness matrices corresponding to the fine spaces, the optimal preconditioning matrices can be found, which have tri‐ or five‐diagonal forms for h‐ or p‐refinements, respectively, after a certain reordering of the elements. As another use of the hierarchical bases, the a posteriori error estimates can be computed. We compare them in test examples for h‐ and p‐hierarchical FEs with rectangular supports. A new first‐order formulation for the two‐dimensional elasticity equations is proposed by introducing additional variables which, called stresses here, are the derivatives of displacements. The resulted stress–displacement system can be further decomposed into two dependent subsystems, the stress system and the displacement system recovered from the stresses. For constructing finite element approximations to these subsystems with appropriate boundary conditions, a two‐stage least‐squares procedure is introduced. The analysis shows that, under suitable regularity assumptions, the rates of convergence of the least‐squares approximations for all the unknowns are optimal both in the H1‐norm and in L2‐norm. Also, numerical experiments with various Poisson's ratios are examined to demonstrate the theoretical estimates. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper is a continuation of our recent paper 8 . We will consider the semi‐linear Cauchy problem for wave models with scale‐invariant time‐dependent mass and dissipation and power non‐linearity. The goal is to study the interplay between the coefficients of the mass and the dissipation term to prove global existence (in time) of small data energy solutions assuming suitable regularity on the L2 scale with additional L1 regularity for the data. In order to deal with this L2 regularity in the non‐linear part, we will develop and employ some tools from Harmonic Analysis.  相似文献

We prove existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to a quasilinear parabolic‐elliptic system modelling an ionic exchanger. This chemical system consists of three phases connected with nonlinear boundary conditions. The most interesting difficulty of our problem manifests in the nonlinear transmission condition, as almost all quantities are non‐linearly involved in this boundary equation. Our approach is based on the contraction mapping principle, where maximal Lp‐regularity of the associated linear problem is used to obtain a fixed point equation of the starting problem. In this paper, we describe a layer potential analysis in order to show an existence result for an interface boundary value problem of Robin‐transmission type for the Stokes and Brinkman systems on Lipschitz domains in Euclidean setting, when the given boundary data belong to some Lp or Sobolev spaces associated to such domains. Applications related to an exterior three‐dimensional Stokes flow past two concentric porous spheres with stress jump conditions on the fluid‐porous interface are also considered. The nonlinear elliptic system is investigated on a non‐smooth domain. Mixed boundary value conditions are given. The left‐hand side of the system has p‐structure (e.g., it is the p‐Laplacian and 1 < p < ∞). Global regularity results of u and |∇u|p/2 in fractional order Sobolev spaces are proven.  相似文献

The system is considered on a bounded three‐dimensional domain under no‐stick boundary value conditions, where S has p‐structure for some p<2 and D ( u ) is the symmetrized gradient of u . Various regularity results for the velocity u and the pressure π in fractional order Sobolev and Nikolskii spaces are obtained. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We investigate a multi‐dimensional isentropic hydrodynamic (Euler–Poisson) model for semiconductors, where the energy equation is replaced by the pressure–density relation p(n) . We establish the global existence of smooth solutions for the Cauchy–Neumann problem with small perturbed initial data and homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. We show that, as t→+∞, the solutions converge to the non‐constant stationary solutions of the corresponding drift–diffusion equations. Moreover, we also investigate the existence and uniqueness of the stationary solutions for the corresponding drift–diffusion equations. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the global existence and asymptotic behavior of the Boussinesq‐Burgers system subject to the Dirichlet boundary conditions. Based on the Lp(p > 2) estimates of the solution, which are different from the standard L2‐based energy methods, we show that the classical solutions exist globally and converge to their boundary data at an exponential decay rate as time goes to infinity for large initial data. This paper is devoted to the analysis of the N‐space dimensional heat equation, subject to Cauchy–Dirichlet boundary conditions. The problem is set in a symmetric conical type domain. More precisely, we look for sufficient conditions on the lateral boundary of the domain, as weak as possible in order to obtain the maximal regularity of the solution in an anisotropic Hilbertian Sobolev space. For this purpose, the domain decomposition method is employed. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We study the dynamics of an incompressible, homogeneous fluid of a power‐law type, with the stress tensor T = ν(1 + µ|Dv|)p?2Dv, where Dv is a symmetric velocity gradient. We consider the two‐dimensional problem with periodic boundary conditions and p ∈ (1, 2). Under these assumptions, we estimate the fractal dimension of the exponential attractor, using the so‐called method of ??‐trajectories. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The article considers a three‐dimensional crack problem in linear elasticity with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The crack in this model problem is assumed to be a smooth open surface with smooth boundary curve. The hp‐version of the boundary element method with weakly singular operator is applied to approximate the unknown jump of the traction which is not L2‐regular due to strong edge singularities. Assuming quasi‐uniform meshes and uniform distributions of polynomial degrees, we prove an a priori error estimate in the energy norm. The estimate gives an upper bound for the error in terms of the mesh size h and the polynomial degree p. It is optimal in h for any given data and quasi‐optimal in p for sufficiently smooth data. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2008  相似文献

This paper is devoted to Stokes and Navier–Stokes problems with non‐standard boundary conditions: we consider, in particular, the case where the pressure is given on a part of the boundary. These problems were studied by Bégue, Conca, Murat and Pironneau. They proved the existence of variational solutions, indicating that these were solutions of the initial non‐standard problems, if they are regular enough, but without specifying the conditions on the data which would imply this regularity. In this paper, first we show that the variational solutions, on supposing pressure on the boundary Γ2 of regularity H1/2 instead of H?1/2, have their Laplacians in L2 and, therefore, are solutions of non‐standard Stokes problem. Next, we give a result of regularity H2, which we generalize, obtaining regularities Wm, r, m∈?, m?2, r?2. Finally, by a fixed‐point argument, we prove analogous results for the Navier–Stokes problem, in the case where the viscosity νis large compared to the data. We consider the Cauchy problem for second‐order strictly hyperbolic equations with time‐depending non‐regular coefficients. There is a possibility that singular coefficients make a regularity loss for the solution. The main purpose of this paper is to derive an optimal singularity for the coefficient that the Cauchy problem is C well‐posed. Moreover, we will apply such a result to the estimate of the existence time of the solution for Kirchhoff equation. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove the Saint‐Venant compatibility conditions in Lp for p∈(1,+), in a simply connected domain of any space dimension. As a consequence, alternative, simple, and direct proofs of some classical Korn inequalities in Lp are provided. We also use the Helmholtz decomposition in Lp to show that every symmetric tensor in a smooth domain can be decomposed in a compatible part, which is the symmetric part of a displacement gradient, and in an incompatible part, which is the incompatibility of a certain divergence‐free tensor. Moreover, under a suitable Dirichlet boundary condition, this Beltrami‐type decomposition is proved to be unique. This decomposition result has several applications, one of which being in dislocation models, where the incompatibility part is related to the dislocation density and where 1 < p < 2. This justifies the need to generalize and prove these rather classical results in the Hilbertian case (p = 2), to the full range p∈(1,+). Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with global existence and asymptotic behavior of H1 solutions to the Cauchy problem of one‐dimensional full non‐Newtonian fluids with the weighted small initial data. We then obtain the global existence of Hi(i = 2,4) solutions and their asymptotic behavior for the system. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We introduce the concept of Lp-maximal regularity for second order Cauchy problems. We prove Lp-maximal regularity for an abstract model problem and we apply the abstract results to prove existence, uniqueness and regularity of solutions for nonlinear wave equations.
