Three amphiphilic rod‐coil diblock copolymers, poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline‐b‐γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate) (PEOz‐b‐PBLG), incorporating the same‐length PEOz block length and various lengths of their PBLG blocks, were synthesized through a combining of living cationic and N‐carboxyanhydride (NCA) ring‐opening polymerizations. In the bulk, these block copolymers display thermotropic liquid crystalline behavior. The self‐assembled aggregates that formed from these diblock copolymers in aqueous solution exhibited morphologies that differed from those obtained in α‐helicogenic solvents, that is, solvents in which the PBLG blocks adopt rigid α‐helix conformations. In aqueous solution, the block copolymers self‐assembled into spherical micelles and vesicular aggregates because of their amphiphilic structures. In helicogenic solvents (in this case, toluene and benzyl alcohol), the PEOz‐b‐PBLG copolymers exhibited rod‐coil chain properties, which result in a diverse array of aggregate morphologies (spheres, vesicles, ribbons, and tube nanostructures) and thermoreversible gelation behavior. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the synthesis, characterization, and solvent‐induced structure formation in thin films of an amphiphilic rod‐coil conjugated block copolymer, poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide). The diblock copolymers were prepared by a facile click reaction and their characterizations as well as thermal, crystalline, optical properties, and self‐assembly behavior have been investigated in detail. A series of morphologies including two‐phase separated nanostructure, nanofibrils, and their mixed morphology could be obtained depending on the selectivity of solvents to different blocks. Structural analyses demonstrate there is a subtle balance between microphase separation of copolymer and the π‐π stacking of the conjugated P3HT and such balance can be controlled by changing the solvents of different selectivity in solution and the length of P3HT block. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. With the aim of accessing colloidally stable, fiberlike, π‐conjugated nanostructures of controlled length, we have studied the solution self‐assembly of two asymmetric crystalline–coil, regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine) (P3HT‐b‐P2VP) diblock copolymers, P3HT23b‐P2VP115 (block ratio=1:5) and P3HT44b‐P2VP115 (block ratio=ca. 1:3). The self‐assembly studies were performed under a variety of solvent conditions that were selective for the P2VP block. The block copolymers were prepared by using Cu‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition reactions of azide‐terminated P2VP and alkyne end‐functionalized P3HT homopolymers. When the block copolymers were self‐assembled in a solution of a 50 % (v/v) mixture of THF (a good solvent for both blocks) and an alcohol (a selective solvent for the P2VP block) by means of the slow evaporation of the common solvent; fiberlike micelles with a P3HT core and a P2VP corona were observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The average lengths of the micelles were found to increase as the length of the hydrocarbon chain increased in the P2VP‐selective alcoholic solvent (MeOH<iPrOH<nBuOH). Very long (>3 μm) fiberlike micelles were prepared by the dialysis of solutions of the block copolymers in THF against iPrOH. Furthermore the widths of the fibers were dependent on the degree of polymerization of the chain‐extended P3HT blocks. The crystallinity and π‐conjugated nature of the P3HT core in the fiberlike micelles was confirmed by a combination of UV/Vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL) measurements, and wide‐angle X‐ray scattering (WAXS). Intense sonication (iPrOH, 1 h, 0 °C) of the fiberlike micelles formed by P3HT23b‐P2VP115 resulted in small (ca. 25 nm long) stublike fragments that were subsequently used as initiators in seeded growth experiments. Addition of P3HT23b‐P2VP115 unimers to the seeds allowed the preparation of fiberlike micelles with narrow length distributions (Lw/Ln <1.11) and lengths from about 100‐300 nm, that were dependent on the unimer‐to‐seed micelle ratio.  相似文献

Optically active poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether‐b‐poly(methacryloyl‐L ‐leucine methyl ester) (denoted as MPEG‐b‐PMALM) copolymers were prepared via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), using bromine (Br) end‐capped poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether (denoted as MPEG‐Br) as macroinitiator in the presence of CuBr/tris(2‐dimethylaminoethy1)amine (Me6TREN) as catalytic system. Broad range of morphologies, such as spherical, cylindrical, and vesicular micelles, which were prepared by initially dissolving prepared polymer in organic solvent at different concentration followed by addition various amount of water before dialysis against water to remove any added solvent, was observed by transmission electron microscope (TEM). More detailed chiroptical properties of the micelles/aggregates in aqueous solution were evaluated by circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy as a function of micelles morphologies, polymer concentration, solvents employed, temperature, etc. The micellar solutions exhibit almost the same CD spectra regardless of its morphologies. The intensity of the CD spectra of the cylindrical micelles decreased in the molar ellipticities as the micellar concentration in water was increased. The Cotton effect was markedly changed when the solvent hydrophobicity was changed by addition of trifluoromethyl ethanol (TFME) to water. The intensity of the CD spectra decreased not too much within the temperature range from 20 °C to 90 °C, indicating good stability of the micelles upon temperature variation. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A straightforward strategy is proposed for the synthesis of novel, amphiphilic block–graft MPEG‐b‐(PαN3CL‐g‐alkyne) degradable copolymers. First, the ring‐opening polymerization of α‐chloro‐ε‐caprolactone (αClCL) was initiated by hydroxy‐terminated macroinitiator monomethoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (MPEG) with SnOct2 as the catalyst. In a second step, pendent chlorides were converted into azides by the reaction with sodium azide. Finally, various kinds of terminal alkynes were reacted with pendent azides by copper‐catalyzed Huisgen's 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition, and thus a “click” reaction. These copolymers were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), 1H NMR, IR, and gel permeation chromatography. By fixing the length of the MPEG block and increasing the length of PαClCL (or PαN3CL) block, an increase tendency in Tgs was observed. However, the copolymers of MPEG‐b‐PαClCL and MPEG‐b‐PαN3CL were semicrystalline when the Mn of MPEG was above 2000 g mol?1. The block–graft copolymers formed micelles in the aqueous phase with critical micelle concentrations (CMCs) in the range of 1.4–12.0 mg L?1 depending on the composition of polymers. The lengths of hydrophilic segment influence the shape of the micelle. The mean hydrodynamic diameters of the micelles from dynamic light scattering were in the range of 90–160 nm. In vitro hydrolytic degradation of block–graft copolymers is faster than the corresponding block copolymers. The drug entrapment efficiency and the drug loading content of micelles depending on the composition of block–graft polymers were described. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphiphilic, biodegradable block glycopolymers based on poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) with various pendent saccharides were synthesized by combination of ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and “click” chemistry. PCL macroinitiators obtained by ROP of ε‐caprolactone were used to initiate the ROP of 2‐bromo‐ε‐caprolactone (BrCL) to get diblock copolymers, PCL‐b‐PBrCL. Reaction of the block copolymers with sodium azide converted the bromine groups in the PBrCL block to azide groups. In the final step, click chemistry of alkynyl saccharides with the pendent azide groups of PCL‐b‐PBrCL led to the formation of the amphiphilic block glycopolymers. These copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. The self‐assembly behavior of the amphiphilic block copolymers was investigated using transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscope, spherical aggregates with saccharide groups on the surface were observed, and the aggregates could bind reversibly with Concanavalin A. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The purpose of this study is to correlate the nano‐organization in water of coil‐rod‐coil amphiphilic block copolymers constituted of a conjugated segment to their optoelectronic properties. The ABA block copolymer structures, easily achieved via coupling reactions, are based on conjugated rod of dihexylfluorene and 3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene units linked to two flexible poly(ethylene oxide) or poly[(ethylene oxide)‐ran‐(propylene oxide)] chains. These well‐defined copolymers exhibited a range of specific morphologies in water, a good solvent of coil blocks and a bad solvent of the conjugated rod. Particularly, vesicles and micelles with spherical, cylindrical, or elongated shape were noticed. Correlations were attempted to be established between the weight percent of the conjugated sequence contained in the copolymers, the morphology of the nanostructures obtained by self‐assembly in solution and the resulting optical properties. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Blends of poly(2‐vinyl pyridine)‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (P2VP‐b‐PMMA) and poly(hydroxyether of bisphenol A) (phenoxy) were prepared by solvent casting from chloroform solution. The specific interactions, phase behavior and nanostructure morphologies of these blends were investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic light scattering (DLS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In this block copolymer/homopolymer blend system, it is established that competitive hydrogen bonding exists as both blocks of the P2VP‐b‐PMMA are capable of forming intermolecular hydrogen bonds with phenoxy. It was observed that the interaction between phenoxy and P2VP is stronger than that between phenoxy and PMMA. This imbalance in the intermolecular interactions and the repulsions between the two blocks of the diblock copolymer lead to a variety of phase morphologies. At low phenoxy concentration, spherical micelles are observed. As the concentration increases, PMMA begins to interact with phenoxy, leading to the changes of morphology from spherical to wormlike micelles and finally forms a homogenous system. A model is proposed to describe the self‐assembled nanostructures of the P2VP‐b‐PMMA/phenoxy blends, and the competitive hydrogen bonding is responsible for the morphological changes. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(1H,1H‐dihydro perfluorooctyl methacrylate) (P3HT‐b‐PFOMA) diblock copolymers were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization of fluorooctyl methacrylate using bromoester terminated poly(3‐hexylthiophene) macroinitiators in order to investigate their morphological properties. The P3HT macroinitiator was previously prepared by chemical modification of hydroxy terminated P3HT. The block copolymers were well characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. Transmission electron microscopy was used to investigate the nanostructured morphology of the diblock copolymers. The block copolymers are able to undergo microphase separation and self‐assemble into well‐defined and organized nanofibrillar‐like micellar morphology. The development of the morphology of P3HT‐b‐PFOMA block copolymers was investigated after annealing in solvent vapor and also in supercritical CO2. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Synthesis and self‐assembly behavior of a novel amphiphilic brush‐coil block copolymer bearing hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) segment and hydrophobic polypeptide brush segment were presented in this work. The poly(γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate) (PBLG) brush is synthesized through “grafting from” strategy by ring‐opening polymerization of γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate‐N‐carboxyanhydride (BLG‐NCA) initiated by the flanking terminal primary amino group of macroinitiator. The copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography, Fourier transform infrared, circular dichroism spectrum, and differential scanning calorimetry. The self‐assembly behavior of the brush‐coil block copolymers in aqueous solution was investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and laser light scattering. Spherical micelles were observed when the length of PBLG brush is shorter. The aggregate morphology transforms to spindle‐like micelles and then to rod‐like micelles, as the length of polypeptide brush increases. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report on novel diblock copolymers of poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) (PVCL) and poly(N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone) (PVPON) (PVCL‐b‐PVPON) with well‐defined block lengths synthesized by the MADIX/reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) process. We show that the lower critical solution temperatures (LCST) of the block copolymers are controllable over the length of PVCL and PVPON segments. All of the diblock copolymers dissolve molecularly in aqueous solutions when the temperature is below the LCST and form spherical micellar or vesicular morphologies when temperature is raised above the LCST. The size of the self‐assembled structures is controlled by the molar ratio of PVCL and PVPON segments. The synthesized homopolymers and diblock copolymers are demonstrated to be nontoxic at 0.1–1 mg mL?1 concentrations when incubated with HeLa and HEK293 cancer cells for various incubation times and have potential as nanovehicles for drug delivery. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report on the synthesis of novel poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(oligo ethylene glycol methyl ether acrylate) (PNIPAM‐b‐POEGA) thermoresponsive block copolymers using reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization methodologies. The synthesized block copolymers are characterized by gel permeation chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) techniques in terms of molecular weight and composition. Their thermoresponsive self‐assembly in aqueous media is investigated using dynamic and static light scattering. The PNIPAM‐b‐POEGA thermoresponsive block copolymers formed aggregates in water by increasing the temperature above the lower critical solution temperature value of PNIPAM block. Solution pH seems to affect the self‐assembly behavior in some cases due to the presence of ? COOH end groups. Therefore, the copolymers were utilized as “smart” nanocarries for the hydrophobic drug indomethacin, implementing a novel encapsulation protocol taking advantage of the thermoresponsive character of the PNIPAM block. The empty and loaded self‐assembled nanocarriers systems were studied by light scattering techniques, ultraviolet–visible, and FTIR spectroscopy, which gave information on the size and structure of the nanocarriers, the drug loading content and the interactions between the drug and the components of the block copolymers. Drug loaded nanostructures show stability at room temperature, due to active drug/block copolymer interactions. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. We present here the synthesis of two kinds of amphiphilic block copolymers, a diblock copolymer MPEG‐b‐PTAm and a triblock copolymer MPEG‐b‐PLA‐b‐PTAm, which can self‐assemble into micelles with nitroxyl radicals‐containing PTAm segment in the core. The structure of the block copolymers was characterized by 1H NMR and GPC. Dynamic laser light scattering and transmission electron microscopy were used to study the micellar behavior of the two block copolymers in aqueous solution. The micelles carrying nitroxyl radicals in the core can generate electron paramagnetic resonance, which is stable for a period of time up to 8 min even in the presence of reducing reagent such as ascorbic acid. The enhanced stability against the reducing agent was ascribed to the inaccessibility of the nitroxyl radical core placed in the interior of the micelles. Combined with the biocompatibility, these micelles were promising to be used as the EPR probes for bioimaging in vivo. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2010  相似文献

A novel POSS‐containing methacrylate monomer (HEMAPOSS) was fabricated by extending the side chain between polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) unit and methacrylate group, which can efficiently decrease the steric hindrance in free‐radical polymerization of POSS‐methacrylate monomer. POSS‐containing homopolymers (PHEMAPOSS) with a higher degree of polymerization (DP) can be prepared using HEMAPOSS monomer via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. PHEMAPOSS was further used as the macro‐RAFT agent to construct a series of amphiphilic POSS‐containing poly(N, N‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) diblock copolymers, PHEMAPOSS‐b‐PDMAEMA. PHEMAPOSS‐b‐PDMAEMA block copolymers can self‐assemble into a plethora of morphologies ranging from irregular assembled aggregates to core‐shell spheres and further from complex spheres (pearl‐necklace‐liked structure) to large compound vesicles. The thermo‐ and pH‐responsive behaviors of the micelles were also investigated by dynamic laser scattering, UV spectroscopy, SEM, and TEM. The results reveal the reversible transition of the assembled morphologies from spherical micelles to complex micelles was realized through acid‐base control. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. This investigation reported the preparation of fluorinated and nonamphiphilic well‐defined poly(styrene)‐block‐poly(2,2,3,3,4,4,4‐heptafluorobutyl methacrylate) (PS‐b‐PHFBMA) diblock copolymers via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Their chemical composition, structure, and bulk morphology were thoroughly investigated. In addition, their self‐assembly behavior in a dilute organic mixture solution was investigated. It was found that that the ATRP could be used to prepare the well‐defined fluorinated and nonamphiphilic PS‐b‐PHFBMA diblock copolymers in a controlled manner. The results also showed that abundant morphologies including sphere, worm‐like structure, and vesicle could be formed with different volume ratios of these two solvents, which proves that the nonamphiphilic fluorinated diblock copolymers can self‐assemble in a dilute solution, and the aforementioned reason for self‐assembly was also discussed preliminarily in this work. Finally, the effect of temperature on the aggregates was investigated to verify whether the self‐assembly behavior was to some extent temperature sensitive. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new class of temperature and pH dual‐responsive and injectable supramolecular hydrogel was developed, which was formed from block copolymer poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly[(2‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PEG‐b‐PDMAEMA) and α‐cyclodextrin (α‐CD) inclusion complexes (ICs). The PEG‐b‐PDMAEMA diblock copolymers with different ratio of ethylene glycol (EG) to (2‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) (102:46 and 102:96, respectively) were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). 1H NMR measurement indicated that the ratio of EG unit to α‐CD in the resulted ICs was higher than 2:1. Thermal analysis showed that thermal stability of ICs was improved. The rheology studies showed that the hydrogels were temperature and pH sensitive. Moreover, the hydrogels were thixotropic and reversible. The self‐assembly morphologies of the ICs in different pH and ionic strength environment were studied by transmission electron microscopy. The formed biocompatible micelles have potential applications as biomedical and stimulus‐responsive material. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymerization‐induced self‐assembly (PISA) enables the scalable synthesis of functional block copolymer nanoparticles with various morphologies. Herein we exploit this versatile technique to produce so‐called “high χ–low N” diblock copolymers that undergo nanoscale phase separation in the solid state to produce sub‐10 nm surface features. By varying the degree of polymerization of the stabilizer and core‐forming blocks, PISA provides rapid access to a wide range of diblock copolymers, and enables fundamental thermodynamic parameters to be determined. In addition, the pre‐organization of copolymer chains within sterically‐stabilized nanoparticles that occurs during PISA leads to enhanced phase separation relative to that achieved using solution‐cast molecularly‐dissolved copolymer chains.  相似文献

We herein report the formation of two complex nanostructures, toroidal micelles and bicontinuous nanospheres, by the self‐assembly of the single structurally simple crystalline‐b‐coil diblock copolymer poly[bis(trifluoroethoxy)phosphazene]‐b‐poly(styrene), PTFEP‐b‐PS, in one solvent (THF) and without additives. The nature of these nanostructures in solution was confirmed by DLS and cryo‐TEM experiments. The two morphologies are related by means of a new type of reversible morphological evolution, bicontinuous‐to‐toroidal, triggered by changes in the polymer concentration. WAXS experiments showed that the degree of crystallinity of the PTFEP chains located at the core of the toroids was higher than that in the bicontinuous nanospheres, thus indicating that the final morphology of the aggregates is mostly determined by the ordering of the PTFEP core‐forming blocks.  相似文献

Two chiral amphiphilic diblock copolymers with different relative lengths of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic blocks, poly(6‐O‐p‐vinylbenzyl‐1,2:3,4‐Di‐O‐isopropylidene‐D ‐galactopyranose)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) or poly(VBCPG)‐b‐poly(NIPAAM) and poly(20‐(hydroxymethyl)‐pregna‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one methacrylate)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) or poly(MAC‐HPD)‐b‐poly(NIPAAM) were synthesized via consecutive reversible addition‐fragmentation chain‐transfer polymerizations of VBCPG or MAC‐HPD and NIPAAM. The chemical structures of these diblock copolymers were characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. These amphiphilic diblock copolymers could self‐assemble into micelles in aqueous solution, and the morphologies of micelles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. By comparison with the lower critical solution temperatures (LCST) of poly(NIPAAM) homopolymer in deionized water (32 °C), a higher LCST of the chiral amphiphilic diblock copolymer (poly(VBCPG)‐b‐poly(NIPAAM)) was observed and the LCST increased with the relative length of the poly(VBCPG) block in the copolymer from 35 to 47 °C, respectively. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
