A calculation of the cross section for the reaction νγνμ + μ ? which is induced by the neutrino magnetic moment, is described in detail. The expression obtained for this cross section is used to determine the asymptotic behavior of the cross section for the reaction νNνNμ + μ ? by the Weiszäcker-Williams method. It is shown that, upon going over from the nucleus involved to a structureless particle (for example, an electron), the resulting expression is doubled owing to integration with respect to the virtual-photon momentum over the region m μ?Q?E ν, where the Weiszäcker-Williams approximation is not applicable. The method developed here makes it possible to obtain straightforwardly the known asymptotic expressions for the cross sections describing the reactions eNeNμ + μ ? and e + e ?W + W ? e + e ?.  相似文献

We have performed a microscopic study of the3He(d,p) α reaction at astrophysical energies within the framework of the Resonating Group Method adopting three different effective nucleon-nucleon interactions. The calculations suggest that the low-energy3He(d,p) α cross section is in good approximation given by the contribution arising from the 3/2+ resonant state atE R =245 keV. In fact, the low-energy data can be better (and more physically) described by a single Breit-Wigner resonance parametrization than by a polynomial fit. Our fit to the3He(d,p) α cross section results in a noticeable reduction in the uncertainties of the resonance parameters of the 3/2+ resonant state as well as in a significantly improved extrapolation of the data to astrophysically important energies. On the basis of this extrapolation we were able to quantitatively deduce the enhancement of the low-energy cross section due to electron screening effects from the data of Krauss et al. and Engstler et al. These experimental enhancement factors were compared with various theoretical models which are all based on the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. As the models underestimate the observed enhancement we suggest that the theoretical study of electron screening effects requires a dynamical treatment.  相似文献

The contribution to the real and imaginary nucleus-nucleus (N-N) optical potential from nucleon-nucleon scattering in the medium is calculated in a local density approximation from a two Fermi sphere nuclear matter picture for the N-N collision. This reaction mechanism is shown to be dominant for 12C + 12C scattering at all considered energies (160 MeV < Elab < 2250 MeV) giving a weakly energy dependent reaction cross section of about 900 mb. Inclusion of the collective 2+, 3? excitations in a coupled channel calculations gives good agreement for both the measured elastic and inelastic 2+ cross section at Elab = 1016 MeV. This fully microscopic parameter free calculation indicates that the energy dependence of the reaction cross section for this system is mostly due to the decrease of the collective contribution with increasing energy contrary to current theoretical models.  相似文献

The differential cross section and the total cross section for the stimulated decay of positronium by an incident photon of frequencyΩ is calculated as a function of the dimensionless variableξ=hΩ/mc 2. Forξ?1 the total cross section is found to decrease asξ ?2. We also look at the particular case of positronium in a black-body radiation field. Expressions for the number of induced annihilations per second as functions of the dimensionless ratiomc 2/kT and the number of positronium atoms are obtained. It is found that this rate is proportional to (kT/mc 2)2 forkT?mc 2 and to (kT/mc 2)ln(kT/mc 2) forkT?mc 2. The possibility of utilizing induced two-photon decay of positronium as a γ-ray laser at the wavelength λ C /2 is examined, where λ C is the Compton wavelength.  相似文献

The reaction 12C?+?4He ?? 16O?+??? at E cm?= 0.3?MeV plays an important role in stellar evolution, but the reaction cross section has not been measured yet. Recently we succeeded to measure total cross section of the reaction down to E cm?= 1.5?MeV at Kyushu University. We have a plan to measure the cross section down to 0.7?MeV in several years, and to extrapolate the results to 0.3?MeV.  相似文献

An inclusive approach to measuring e + e ?→π+π? cross section by the radiative-return method is discussed. This approach is substantially based on the choice of selection rules that exclude three-pion events and reduce the radiation background in the final state. Radiative corrections in the process with emission in the initial state are calculated for the DAPHNE conditions by treating the cross section form and the kinematics of the radiative process in the quasi-real electron approximation.  相似文献

Absolute photoabsorption cross sections for H2O and D2O have been measured photoelectrically from λλ 180 to 790 Å using synchrotron radiation. The cross sections increase smoothly with wavelength to ~λ610 Å, with both H2O and D2O displaying a broad absorption band extending above a nearly linear background from λλ 400 to 490 Å. The continuum has a maximum of ~ 22.5 Mb at λ 640 Å. Above λ 615 Å, superimposed on the continuum, a diffuse structure appears which is similar to the vibrational structure of the 2B2 states of H2O+ and D2O+ as observed in photoelectron spectra. The structure is believed to arise from excitation of a 1b2 electron to the vibrational levels of a Rydberg orbital with n1 ≈ 2.64.  相似文献

The fragmentation of the total reaction cross section was investigated for16O +208Pb atE c.m.=84 MeV andE c.m.=92 MeV. Total cross sections for the inelastic, transfer and fission channels were measured. The sum of the inelastic and transfer channels accounts for 30% of the total reaction cross section; the residual strength is found in a compoundfission process.  相似文献

We have made a study of the coherent reaction K+d → K0π+d at 2 GeV/c, using data obtained in the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory 25 inch bubble chamber. The cross section for this reaction is 324 ± 25 μb, after correction for invisible K0 decays. This reaction is dominated primarily by vector exchange. We determine the parameters of the ω trajectory to be αω = (0.33 ± 0.04) + t.  相似文献

A thorough study of lepton-pair production from two-photon annihilation in p?)p collisions is presented. The differential cross section is calculated over a large range of energies (27?√s?800 GeV as a function of the dilepton mass M as well as the dilepton transverse momentum QT and the Feynman variable xF. No kinematical approximations (such as the equivalent photon approximation) are made. For QT ≈ 0 the two-photon mechanism represents an important fraction of the pp→e+e?X cross section already at ISR energies, whereas at ISABELLE energies it dramatically dominates in the interval 0?QT?1 GeV. At ISR energies these conclusions follow from a direct comparison of the two-photon contribution with pp→e+e?X data. For the ISABELLE energy range the expected O(αs) QCD contribution to pp→?+??X, corrected for soft gluon radiation to all orders (in leading bilogarithmic approximation), was taken as a reference. At larger QT and ISR energies the γγ contribution is negligible, whereas at √s = 800 GeV γγ/QCD? 10–20% almost everywhere. Furthermore, two-photon candidate events from the ISR are shown to be in reasonable agreement with theory. A decomposition of the γγ cross section into contributions from both proton vertices being elastic, inelastic and of mixed configuration is given. The results provide important clues for a future isolation of the two-photon mechanism.  相似文献

The main structure around m = 2.15 GeV first observed by the Argonne group in the spin-dependent total cross section ΔσL is confirmed in the energy range available at SIN. A simultaneous study of the scattered particles at small angles has been carried out with success and gave the spin-correlation parameter A00kk for the pp elastic scattering and for the reaction pp → π+d. The contribution of the 3-body reactions to this spin-dependent total cross section has been deduced and found to be lower than the contribution of the π+d reaction even at 583 MeV.  相似文献

A rigorous quantum treatment of the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal effect in QED and QCD is given for the first time. The rate of photon (gluon) radiation by an electron (quark) in a medium is expressed in terms of the Green’s function of a two-dimensional Schrödinger equation with an imaginary potential. In QED this potential is proportional to the dipole cross section for scattering of an e + e ? pair off an atom, while in QCD it is proportional to the cross section of interaction of the color singlet quark-antiquark-gluon system with a color center.  相似文献

The effect of a laser field on the cross section of photoionization of an atom by probe radiation in the region of closely lying autoionizing resonances is studied theoretically. The cross sections in the region of the overlapping autoionizing Rydberg states 5p 5(2 P 1/2)6d′ J = 1 and 5p 5(2 P 1/2)8s′ J = 1 resonantly coupled with the discrete state 5p 5(2 P 3/2)7p[1/2]1 in the xenon atom are calculated. The behavior of the shape and position of resonances in relation to the frequency and intensity of laser radiation is studied.  相似文献

Absolute cross sections for electron impact dissociation of ND+ leading to the formation of D+ have been measured by applying the animated electron-ion beam method in the energy range from the reaction threshold up to 2.5 keV. The maximum inclusive cross section is observed to be (16.8 ± 0.8) × 10−17 cm2 at the electron energy of 65.1 eV. The appearance energy for the D+ production is measured to be (4.0 ± 0.5) eV. Collected data are analyzed in details by means of an original procedure in order to determine separately the contributions of dissociative channels. A specific Monte Carlo modeling has been developed, which is proven to reconstruct adequately the dissociative ionization cross section. The present energy thresholds provide information about the ground and excited states of the molecular ion, as well as about the possible population of the vibrational levels. The reaction D2(v) + N+ (or H2(v) + N+) is a probable source for that population and it constitutes the first step of the molecular activated processes, so the corresponding chain of reactions has to be considered to study the chemistry of plasma sources.  相似文献

A microscopic model for the pd → + reaction is constructed using two-body isobar wave functions containing the Δ(1236). This model results in an analytical form for the reaction cross section and so it is possible to check the validity of those more approximate models that relate the pd → + cross section to the pp → dπ+ cross section. The cross section for the reaction 12C(α, γ)16O has been measured for a range of c.m. energies extending from 1.41 MeV to 2.94 MeV, by using 12C targets of high isotopic purity, large NaI(T1) crystals, and the time-of-flight technique for the suppression of prompt neutron background and time-independent background. Gamma-ray angular distributions were measured at c.m. energies of 2.18, 2.42, 2.56 and 2.83 MeV. By means of theoretical fits, which include the coherent effects of the 1? states of 16O at 7.12 MeV, 9.60 MeV, and those at higher energies, the electric-dipole portion of the cross section at astrophysically relevant energies has been determined. A three-level R-matrix parametrization of the data yields an S-factor at Ec.m. = 0.3 MeV, S(0.3 MeV) = 0.14+0.14?0.12 MeV · b. A “hybrid” R-matrix optical-m parameterization yields S(0.3 MeV) = 0.08+0.05?0.04 MeV · b. This S-factor is of crucial importance in determining the abundances of 12C and 16O at the end of helium burning in stars.  相似文献

We calculate the scattering cross section of an electron with respect to the spontaneously produced laser radiation in the first free-electron laser (FEL) with quantum-wiggler electrodynamics (QWD). The cross section is 1016 times the Thomson cross section, confirming the result obtained by a previous analysis of the experimental data. A QWD calculation show that spontaneous emission in an FEL using only an electric wiggler can be very strong while amplification through net stimulated emission is practically negligible.  相似文献

The contribution of the QCD high-twist subprocess γq→πq′ to the inclusive cross section for e+ e? → e+ e? + π± + X is calculated both in the PETRA/PEP and the LEP energy range, in the equivalent-photon approximation. Superposed on the Born cross section and its O(αs) correction, it gives agreement with the data at relatively low transverse momenta. It is suggested that this high-twist contribution may be further isolated experimentally by triggering simultaneously on both a fast hadron and the opposite-side jet.  相似文献

Results of a new evaluation of the O(αs2) dressed three-jet cross section for e+e? annihilation are summarized. For vanishing cutoffs, the different results in published three-jet cross section formulae are due to differing definitions of resolvable four-jet events. Subleading terms which were ignored in previous calculations are evaluated and found to be sizeable in the phase space region where three-jet events become more two-jet-like. A simple calculation demonstrates that αs values determined according to the three-jet cross section formulae of Gutbrod, Kramer and Schierholz are systematically too large.  相似文献

We discussZ 0-production in the processe ? +P → e ? +Z 0 +X in the context of the standard modelSU (3) C ×SU (2) L ×U (1) of the strong and electroweak interactions. Besides results for the total cross section and the differential cross section as a function of the parameters of the outgoing electron, we present results for the energy spectrum and the angular distribution of the producedZ 0, for energies available at HERA in the near future. We find that the energy and angular distributions forZ 0-production are strongly peaked, which will permit a clear identification of the producedZ 0.  相似文献
