We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an exponential attractor. The condition is formulated in the context of metric spaces. It also captures the quantitative properties of the attractor, i.e., the dimension and the rate of attraction. As an application, we show that the evolution operator for the wave equation with nonlinear damping has an exponential attractor.  相似文献

Classical analytic spaces can be characterized as projections of Polish spaces. We prove analogous results for three classes of generalized analytic spaces that were introduced by Z. Frolik, D. Fremlin and R. Hansell. We use the technique of complete sequences of covers. We explain also some relations of analyticity to certain fragmentability properties of topological spaces endowed with an additional metric.  相似文献

We study the randomized k-server problem on metric spaces consisting of widely separated subspaces. We give a method which extends existing algorithms to larger spaces with the growth rate of the competitive quotients being at most O(logk). This method yields o(k)-competitive algorithms solving the randomized k-server problem for some special underlying metric spaces, e.g. HSTs of “small” height (but unbounded degree). HSTs are important tools for probabilistic approximation of metric spaces.  相似文献

(a)  BF(ω 2)is false.
(b)  For each X, Y ∈ K′, X x Y is a k-space if and only if (X,Y) has the Tanaka's condition.

The k-server problem is a fundamental online problem where k mobile servers should be scheduled to answer a sequence of requests for points in a metric space as to minimize the total movement cost. While the deterministic competitive ratio is at least k, randomized k-server algorithms have the potential of reaching o(k)-competitive ratios. Prior to this work only few specific cases of this problem were solved. For arbitrary metric spaces, this goal may be approached by using probabilistic metric approximation techniques. This paper gives the first results in this direction, obtaining o(k)-competitive ratio for a natural class of metric spaces, including d-dimensional grids, and wide range of k.  相似文献

We show that the Atiyah–Hirzebruch K-theory of spaces admits a canonical generalization for stratified spaces. For this we study algebraic constructions on stratified vector bundles. In particular the tangent bundle of a stratified manifold is such a stratified vector bundle.  相似文献

We consider properties of the metric projections onto moving convex sets in normed linear spaces. Under certain conditions about the norm, directional differentiability of first and higher order of the metric projections at boundary points is characterized. The conditions are formulated in terms of differentiability of multifunctions and properties of the set-derivatives are shown.  相似文献

A number of generalized metric spaces have been defined or characterized in terms of g-functions. Symmetric g-functions are discussed by C. Good, D. Jennings and A. M. Mohamad. In this paper, some questions about symmetric g-functions are answered, particularly it is shown that every sym-wg-space is expandable. Kolmogorov ε-entropy of a compact set in a metric space measures its metric massivity and thus replaces its dimension which is usually infinite. The notion quantifies the compactness property of sets in metric spaces, and it is widely applied in pure and applied mathematics. The ε-entropy of a compact set is the most economic quantity of information that permits a recovery of elements of this set with accuracy ε. In the present article we study the problem of asymptotic behavior of the ε-entropy for uniformly bounded classes of convex functions in L p -metric proposed by A.I.   Shnirelman. The asymptotic of the Kolmogorov ε-entropy for the compact metric space of convex and uniformly bounded functions equipped with L p -metric is ε −1/2, ε→0+.   相似文献

The concepts of k-systems, k-networks and k-covers were defined by A. Arhangel’skii in 1964, P. O’Meara in 1971 and R. McCoy, I. Ntantu in 1985, respectively. In this paper the relationships among k-systems, k-networks and k-covers are further discussed and are established by mk-systems.
