We present simple proofs of the possibility of embedding ultrametric spaces in Hilbert spaces. The main part of the paper deals with ultrametric spaces that we call totally infinite spaces. Motivated by questions related to embeddings of homogeneous Sobolev spaces and to comparison of function spaces and operator ranges, we introduce the notion of closely embedded Hilbert spaces as an extension of that of continuous embedding of Hilbert spaces. We show that this notion is a special case of that of Hilbert spaces induced by unbounded positive selfadjoint operators that corresponds to kernel operators in the sense of L. Schwartz. Certain canonical representations and characterizations of uniqueness of closed embeddings are obtained. We exemplify these constructions by closed, but not continuous, embeddings of Hilbert spaces of holomorphic functions. An application to the closed embedding of a homogeneous Sobolev space on Rn in L2(Rn), based on the singular integral operator associated to the Riesz potential, and a comparison to the case of the singular integral operator associated to the Bessel potential are also presented. As a second application we show that a closed embedding of two operator ranges corresponds to absolute continuity, in the sense of T. Ando, of the corresponding kernel operators.  相似文献

There are several characterizations of coarse embeddability of locally finite metric spaces into a Hilbert space. In this note we give such characterizations for general metric spaces. By applying these results to the spaces , we get their coarse embeddability into a Hilbert space for . This together with a theorem by Banach and Mazur yields that coarse embeddability into and into are equivalent when . A theorem by G.Yu and the above allow us to extend to , , the range of spaces, coarse embeddings into which is guaranteed for a finitely generated group to satisfy the Novikov Conjecture.

We investigate how coarse embeddability of box spaces into Hilbert space behaves under group extensions. In particular, we prove a result which implies that a semidirect product of a finitely generated free group by a finitely generated residually finite amenable group has a box space which coarsely embeds into Hilbert space. This provides a new class of examples of metric spaces with bounded geometry which coarsely embed into Hilbert space but do not have property A, generalising the example of Arzhantseva, Guentner and Spakula.  相似文献

Strongly absolute bases are, roughly speaking, purely nonlocally convex bases in quasi-Banach spaces. When, in addition, they are unconditional then the discrete lattice structure they induce in the space is lattice anti-Euclidean. In this brief note we characterize the complemented unconditional basic sequences in those quasi-Banach spaces with strongly absolute unconditional basis, and use this result to derive the uniqueness of unconditional basis in many classical quasi-Banach spaces.  相似文献

We show that if X is a nonlocally convex natural quasi-Banach space with symmetric basis whose Banach envelope is isomorphic to ?1, then all symmetric bases of X are equivalent. The scope of this result is quite ample since the Banach envelopes of natural quasi-Banach spaces with basis always exhibit an ?1-like behavior, in the sense that they contain copies of 's uniformly complemented.  相似文献

In this paper, the author studies the coarse embedding into uniformly convex Banach spaces. The author proves that the property of coarse embedding into Banach spaces can be preserved under taking the union of the metric spaces under certain conditions. As an application, for a group G strongly relatively hyperbolic to a subgroup H,the author proves that B(n) = {g ∈ G | |g|S∪H≤ n} admits a coarse embedding into a uniformly convex Banach space if H does.  相似文献

If one tries to embed a metric space uniformly in Hilbert space, how close to quasi-isometric could the embedding be? It is shown that anyn point metric space is up to logn lipeomorphic to a subset of Hilbert space. We also exhibit an example of ann point metric space which cannot be embedded in Hilbert space with distortion less than (logn)/(log logn), showing that the positive result is essentially best possible.
