The onset of plastic yielding in a spherical shell loaded by a rigid flat is studied for stick and slip contact conditions using finite element analysis. The effect of various material properties on the critical normal load, critical interference and critical contact area at the onset of plastic yielding is investigated and the location where plastic yielding first occurs is determined. A comparison is made with results obtained previously for slip contact condition. Substantial differences are found at low to medium Poisson’s ratio values, while some similarities are found to occur for high Poisson’s ratio values. In particular, a spherical shell is more prone to yield under stick than under slip contact condition.  相似文献

提出一种同时考虑粗糙面上微凸体弹性变形和塑性接触的切向黏滑摩擦建模方法.采用Hertz弹性理论和Mindlin解描述弹性接触微凸体的切向载荷和相对变形的关系;采用AF(Abbott-Firstone)塑性理论和Fuji moto模型描述塑性接触微凸体切向载荷和相对变形的关系.再利用GW(Greenwood-Williamson)模型统计分析方法建立粗糙表面切向载荷和相对变形之间的关系.将模型与仅考虑微凸体弹性接触情况的模型进行对比,并研究了不同塑性指数对切向载荷和相对变形关系的影响.结果表明:与完全弹性接触模型相比,论文模型引入了塑性接触理论,能够更好地描述粗糙表面切向载荷和相对变形关系,并且考虑不同接触条件下弹性变形微凸体和塑性变形微凸体对切向接触载荷的贡献,在微滑移阶段,主要由弹性接触变形影响,而在进入宏观滑移阶段之后,切向行为主要由塑性变形影响.界面切向载荷由黏着和滑移接触作用共同决定,随着切向变形的增加,滑移接触力逐渐增加,而黏着接触力先增加后减少,反映了界面由微滑移逐渐向宏滑移演化的过程.随着塑性指数的增加,粗糙面上发生塑性接触的微凸体数目逐渐增加,切向黏滑行为主要受到塑性接触特征的控制.  相似文献

We study the problem of constrained uniform rotation of two precompressed elastic disks made of different materials with friction forces in the contact region taken into account. The exact solution of the problem is obtained by the Wiener-Hopf method.An important stage in the study of rolling of elastic bodies is the Hertz theory [1] of contact interaction of elastic bodies with smoothly varying curvature in the contact region under normal compression. Friction in the contact region is assumed to be negligible. If there are tangential forces and the friction in the contact region is taken into account, then the picture of contact interaction of elastic bodies changes significantly. Although the normal contact stress distribution strictly follows the Hertz theory for bodies with identical elastic properties and apparently slightly differs from the Hertz diagram for bodies made of different materials, the presence of tangential stresses results in the splitting of the contact region into the adhesion region and the slip region. This phenomenon was first established by Reynolds [2], who experimentally discovered slip regions near points of material entry in and exit from the contact region under constrained rolling of an aluminum cylinder on a rubber base. The theoretical justification of the partial slip phenomenon in the contact region, discovered by Reynolds [2], can be found in Carter [3] and Fromm [4]. Moreover, Fromm presents a complete solution of the problem of constrained uniform rotation of two identical disks. Apparently, Fromm was the first to consider the so-called “clamped” strain and postulated that slip is absent at the point at which the disk materials enter the contact region.Ishlinskii [5, 6] gave an engineering solution of the problem on slip in the contact region under rolling friction. Considering the problem on a rigid disk rolling on an elastic half-plane, we model this problem by an infinite set of elastic vertical rods using Winkler-Zimmermann type hypotheses. Numerous papers of other authors are surveyed in Johnson’s monograph [7].The exact solution of the problem on the constrained uniform rotation of precompressed rigid and elastic disks under the assumptions of Fromm’s theory is contained in the papers [8, 9]. In the present paper, we generalize the solution obtained in [8, 9] to the case of two elastic disks made of different materials.  相似文献

A model for multiple repeated loading and unloading of an elastic–plastic sphere and a rigid flat is presented to cover a wide range of loading conditions far beyond the elastic limit. The sphere material is modeled as elastic linear isotropic hardening and follows the von Mises yield criterion. It is shown that although most of the plastic deformation occurs during the first loading, secondary plastic flow may evolve during the first unloading. The occurrence of this secondary plastic flow depends on the level of first loading and is strongly affected by the Poisson’s ratio and material hardening. The region of secondary plastic flow may propagate during the very first loading–unloading cycles, reaching a steady state after which the following loading–unloading cycles become fully elastic.  相似文献

Classically, the transition from stick to slip is modelled with Amonton–Coulomb law, leading to the Cattaneo–Mindlin problem, which is amenable to quite general solutions using the idea of superposing normal contact pressure distributions – in particular superposing the full sliding component of shear with a corrective distribution in the stick region. However, faults model in geophysics and recent high-speed measurements of the real contact area and the strain fields in dry (nominally flat) rough interfaces at macroscopic but laboratory scale, all suggest that the transition from ‘static’ to ‘dynamic’ friction can be described, rather than by Coulomb law, by classical fracture mechanics singular solutions of shear cracks. Here, we introduce an ‘adhesive’ model for friction in a Hertzian spherical contact, maintaining the Hertzian solution for the normal pressures, but where the inception of slip is given by a Griffith condition. In the slip region, the standard Coulomb law continues to hold. This leads to a very simple solution for the Cattaneo–Mindlin problem, in which the “corrective” solution in the stick area is in fact similar to the mode II equivalent of a JKR singular solution for adhesive contact. The model departs from the standard Cattaneo–Mindlin solution, showing an increased size of the stick zone relative to the contact area, and a sudden transition to slip when the stick region reaches a critical size (the equivalent of the pull-off contact size of the JKR solution). The apparent static friction coefficient before sliding can be much higher than the sliding friction coefficient and, for a given friction fracture “energy”, the process results in size and normal load dependence of the apparent static friction coefficient. Some qualitative agreement with Fineberg's group experiments for friction exists, namely the stick–slip boundary quasi-static prediction may correspond to the arrest of their slip “precursors”, and the rapid collapse to global sliding when the precursors arrest front has reached about half the interface may correspond to the reach of the “critical” size for the stick zone.  相似文献

The unloading process of an elastic–plastic spherical contact under stick contact condition is analyzed for various material properties. The evolution of normal and shear stress distribution at the contact area as well as the residual profile of the sphere and residual von Mises stresses inside the sphere are presented. Empirical expressions for the residual interference and for the evolution of the interference and contact area during the unloading are provided. 有限长线接触在齿轮传动与滚子轴承中广泛存在,滚子端部的应力集中严重影响机械零件的疲劳寿命. 本文中基于矩阵法和重叠半空间模型方法建立了有限长滚子黏滑接触的数值计算模型,利用共轭梯度法和快速傅里叶变换方法对模型进行了求解;并且分析了滚子自由端面和不同切向力对滚子黏滑接触的影响. 结果表明:当两有限长滚子的自由端面完全重合时,切应力在端面不会出现应力集中现象,端面的黏着区域相比于中间截面的黏着区会缩小. 此外,随着切向力的增大,端面黏滑区域的切应力增大.   相似文献

To investigate the nonlinear vibration behavior of a shrouded blade with friction dynamic contact interface, a friction contact stiffness model is proposed to describe the friction force at different rough interfaces and different normal loads. In the proposed model, the friction contact interface is discretized to a series of friction contact pairs and each of them can experience stick, slip, or separate states. Fractal geometry is used to simulate the topography of contact surfaces. The contact stiffness is calculated using the Hertz contact theory and fractal geometry, which is related to contact interfaces parameters including normal load, roughness, Young??s modulus, and Poisson??s ratio. The trajectory tracking method is used to predict the friction force and it is not necessary to judge the transition condition among stick, slip, and separate states. It is suitable for complicated periodic motion of the contact interfaces. The forced response of a real shrouded blade is predicted using the proposed model and the multi-harmonic balance method. The effect of surface roughness, initial normal load, and contact area on the forced response of a shrouded blade is studied. It is shown that contact stiffness increases with normal load and fractal dimension. The resonant amplitude is sensitive to the initial normal load and contact surface roughness. The response can be influenced by the contact area, which is an important parameter for blade designers.  相似文献

The thermoelasticity stick–slip contact problem for semi-infinite solids, one of which possesses a surface groove, is considered. The local slip of boundaries occurs in the vicinity of arisen intersurface gap due to different thermal deformations of the opposite faces caused by the temperature jump. By making use of complex potentials method, the corresponding plane contact problem is reduced to a set of three singular integral equations. The analytical solution is constructed for certain shape of the groove. The contact normal and tangential stresses are analyzed along with the parameters of the gap and slip zones, and their dependencies on mechanical and thermal loading.  相似文献

本文研究柔性梁点面斜碰撞问题。用Hertz接触模型处理法向撞击力,分别用Hertz切向接触模型和Coulomb摩擦力模型处理粘滞状态和滑动状态的摩擦力。从精确的应变与位移的关系出发,用绝对节点坐标法建立了柔性梁的动力学方程。为了准确地处理斜碰撞切向运动的复杂状态,提出滑动-粘滞切换的准则,在此基础上,设计了斜碰撞实验,数值对比了法向撞击力和法向速度的时间历程的仿真计算结果与实验结果,验证了Hertz理论在斜碰撞情况下的正确性。另一方面切向速度的实验与理论的结果对照表明滑动-粘滞切换准则的有效性。  相似文献

Oblique indentation of power-law creeping solids by a rigid die is analysed in three dimensions with perfectly plastic behaviour emerging as an asymptotic case. Indenter profiles are prescribed to be axisymmetric for simplicity but not by necessity. Invariance and generality is aimed at, as the problem is governed by only four essential parameters, i.e. the die profile, p, the indentation angle, γ, the power-law exponent, n, and the coefficient of friction, μ. The solution strategy is based on a self-similar transformation resulting in a reduced problem corresponding to flat die indentation of complete contact. The reduced auxiliary problem, being independent of loading, history and time, was solved by a three-dimensional finite element analysis characterized by high accuracy. Subsequently, cumulative superposition was used to resolve the original problem and global and invariant relations between force, depth and contact area were determined. Detailed results are given for the location and shape of the contact region and stick/slip contours as well as for local states of surface stresses and deformation at flat and spherical indenters. Due to the asymmetry prevailing, it was found that in the spherical case, contact contours proved to be oval and shifted, although with normal and tangential forces only weakly coupled. Finite friction as compared to full adhesion proved to have only a minor effect on global relations. The framework laid down may be applied to the contact of structural assemblies subjected especially to elevated temperatures and also to various issues such as compaction of powder aggregates, flattening of rough surfaces and plastic impact.  相似文献

The adhesion failure has become one dominant factor in determining the reliability and service life of miniaturized devices subject to loadings with arbitrary orientations. This article establishes an adhesive full stick contact model between an elastic half-space and a rigid cylinder loaded in any direction. Using the Papkovich-Neuber functions, the Fourier integral transform, and the asymmetric bipolar coordinates, the exact solution is obtained. Unlike the Johnson-Kendall-Roberts (JKR) model, the present adhesive contact model takes into account the effects of the load direction as well as the coupling of the normal and tangential contact stresses. Besides, it considers the full stick contact which has large values of the friction coefficient between contacting surfaces, contrary to the frictionless contact supposed in the JKR model. The result shows that suitable angles can be found, which makes the contact surfaces difficult to be peeled off or easy to be pressed into.

Quasi-static frictional contact problems for bodies of fairly general profile that can be represented as half planes can be solved using an extension of the methods of Ciavarella and Jäger. Here we consider the tangential traction distributions developed when such systems are subjected to loading that varies periodically in time. It is shown that the system reaches a steady state after the first loading cycle. In this state, part of the contact area (the permanent stick zone) experiences no further slip, whereas other points may experience periods of stick, slip and/or separation. We demonstrate that the extent of the permanent stick zone depends only on the periodic loading cycle and is independent of the initial conditions or of any initial transient loading phase. The exact traction distribution in this zone does depend on these factors, but the resultant of these tractions at any instant in the cycle does not. The tractions and slip velocities at all points outside the permanent stick zone are also independent of initial conditions, confirming an earlier conjecture that the frictional energy dissipation per cycle in such systems depends only on the periodic loading cycle. We also show that these parameters remain unchanged if the loading cycle is changed by a time-independent tangential force, provided this is not so large as to precipitate a period of gross slip (sliding).  相似文献

In this paper, the axisymmetric contact problem with the partial slip condition for a functionally graded coated half-space which is indented by a rigid spherical indenter is considered. The material properties are assumed to vary along the thickness of the coating. A series of linear functions of the thickness are used to model the functionally graded coating with the arbitrarily varying shear modulus. The contact problem is formulated in terms of a set of Cauchy singular integral equations by employment of Hankel integral transforms technique and transfer matrix method. By using the uncoupled solution and the coupled solution,the coupled equations are solved. The effect of the coating’s gradient on the normal and radial tractions in the whole contact region is presented. The results show that the contact tractions and the size of the stick zone can be altered by adjusting the gradient of the coating. This may have potential applications in the resistance of contact deformation and damage.  相似文献

A systematic approach for investigating the interfacial behaviour of tyred systems is proposed. A two-dimensional contact model of an elastic strip, shrink-fitted onto a wheel, and subjected to different rolling contact conditions, has been adopted to illustrate the method. The model combines existing techniques to explore individual elastic contact problems and it enables us to characterise the behaviour at the strip/substrate interface caused by loads induced by a quasi-static application of stationary and moving loads on the surface of the layer. The solution is compared to the stationary load case and regimes of local slip, full stick, separation and frictional creep are identified and collated for a variety of loading conditions, materials and geometries. Further, this article presents an investigation of frictional shakedown for layered systems subjected to periodic contact loading. The term shakedown is here referred to as the possibility of developing interfacial residual stresses at the layer/substrate interface such that frictional slip, originally activated by the applied external contact load, ceases after a few loading cycles. The possible applicability of the Melan’s theorem for elastic frictional system is investigated and preliminary results presented.  相似文献

A new formulation for elastic-perfectly plastic contact in the normal direction between two round surfaces that is solely based on material properties and contact geometries is developed. The problem is formulated as three separate domains: the elastic regime, mixed elastic–plastic behavior, and unconstrained (fully plastic) flow. Solutions for the force–displacement relationship in the elastic regime follow from Hertz’s classical solution. In the fully plastic regime, two well supported assumptions are made: that there is a uniform pressure distribution and there is a linear force–deflection relationship. The force–displacement relationship in the intermediate, mixed elastic–plastic regime is approximated by enforcing continuity between the elastic and fully plastic regimes. Transitions between the three regimes are determined based on empirical quantities: the von Mises yield criterion is used to determine the initiation of mixed elastic–plastic deformation, and Brinell’s hardness for the onset of unconstrained flow. Unloading from each of these three regimes is modeled as an elastic process with different radii of curvature based on the regime in which the maximum force occurred. Simulation results explore the relationship between the impact velocity and coefficient of restitution. Further comparisons are made between the model, experimental results found in the literature, and other existing elastic–plastic models. The new model is well supported by the experimental measurements of compliance curves for elastic–plastic materials and of coefficients of restitution from impact studies, and in elastic-perfectly plastic regimes is demonstrated to be more accurate than existing models found in the literature.  相似文献

A physics-based modeling approach for partial slip behavior of a spherical contact is proposed. In this approach, elastic and elastic–plastic normal preload and preload-dependent friction coefficient models are integrated into the Cattaneo–Mindlin partial slip solution. Partial slip responses to cyclic tangential loading (fretting loops) obtained by this approach are favorably compared with experiments and finite element results from the literature. In addition to load-deformation curves, tangential stiffness of the contact and energy dissipation per fretting cycle predictions of the models are also provided. Finally, the critical assumptions of elastically similar bodies, smooth contact surface and negligible adhesion, and limitations of this physics-based modeling approach are discussed.  相似文献

Recently, a generalized Coulomb law for elastic bodies in contact has been developed by the author, which assumes that the tangential traction is the difference of the slip stress of the contact and the stick area, whereby each stick area corresponds to a smaller contact area. It holds for multiple contact regions also. Several applications for elastic half planes, half spaces, thin and thick layers and impact problems have been published. For plane contact of equal bodies with friction, it provides exact solutions, and the interior stress field can be expressed with analytical results in closed form. In this article, a singular superposition of flat punch solutions is outlined, in which the punches are aligned with an edge of the contact area. It is shown that this superposition satisfies Coulomb's inequalities directly, and new results for the Muskhelishvili potentials of several profiles are presented. It is illustrated how problems of singularity and multi-valuedness of complex functions can be solved in closed form, and the Chebyshev approximation used by earlier authors can be avoided. For comparison, some previous solutions for symmetric profiles are appended. Some results for the interior stress field, the pressure, the frictional traction and the surface displacements are compared with FEM solutions of an equivalent problem. The small differences between both methods show characteristic features of the FEM model and the theoretical assumptions, and are shortly explained. Further, this example can be used as benchmark test for FEM and BEM programs.  相似文献

In this paper, the dynamics of piezo-actuated stick–slip micro-drives are studied experimentally and theoretically. First, the stick–slip-based force-generating test stand is introduced, and experimental results are presented. Then, a numerical model is formulated which explicitly includes the dynamics of normal and tangential properties of the contact areas in the frictional driving elements of the drive. The contact forces are simulated using the method of dimensionality reduction. We show that the experimentally observed behavior can be described without using any fitting parameters or assuming any generalized laws of friction if the explicit contact mechanics of the frictional contacts is taken into account. Furthermore, an even simpler model of the drive is developed to get a qualitative understanding of the system. It is employed to gain a new actuation method, which reduces the vibrations of the drive’s runner and therefore enhances its performance.  相似文献
