We prove that the metric spaces pretangent to a finite-dimensional Euclidean or unitary space E are isometric to E. As a consequence of this result, we describe the metric pretangent spaces at the nonsingular points of smooth surfaces. It is also proved that there exist the spaces pretangent to the Hilbert space l 2 , which are not isometric to it.  相似文献

We study some properties of pretangent spaces describing the infinitesimal geometry of general metric spaces. The necessary and sufficient conditions characterizing Ptolemaic pretangent spaces and pretangent spaces, where every three points are situated “on a single straight line,” are found. As a corollary, we obtain a criterion of embeddability of pretangent spaces into the set ℝ of real numbers endowed by the natural metric.  相似文献

In this paper, fuzzy metric spaces are redefined, different from the previous ones in the way that fuzzy scalars instead of fuzzy numbers or real numbers are used to define fuzzy metric. It is proved that every ordinary metric space can induce a fuzzy metric space that is complete whenever the original one does. We also prove that the fuzzy topology induced by fuzzy metric spaces defined in this paper is consistent with the given one. The results provide some foundations for the research on fuzzy optimization and pattern recognition.  相似文献

Magnitude is a numerical invariant of finite metric spaces, recently introduced by Leinster, which is analogous in precise senses to the cardinality of finite sets or the Euler characteristic of topological spaces. It has been extended to infinite metric spaces in several a priori distinct ways. This paper develops the theory of a class of metric spaces, positive definite metric spaces, for which magnitude is more tractable than in general. Positive definiteness is a generalization of the classical property of negative type for a metric space, which is known to hold for many interesting classes of spaces. It is proved that all the proposed definitions of magnitude coincide for compact positive definite metric spaces and further results are proved about the behavior of magnitude as a function of such spaces. Finally, some facts about the magnitude of compact subsets of $\ell _p^n$ for $p \le 2$ are proved, generalizing results of Leinster for $p=1,2$ using properties of these spaces which are somewhat stronger than positive definiteness.  相似文献

Using the idea of intuitionistic fuzzy set due to Atanassov [Intuitionistic fuzzy sets. in: V. Sgurev (Ed.), VII ITKR's Session, Sofia June, 1983; Fuzzy Sets Syst. 20 (1986) 87], we define the notion of intuitionistic fuzzy metric spaces as a natural generalization of fuzzy metric spaces due to George and Veeramani [Fuzzy Sets Syst. 64 (1994) 395] and prove some known results of metric spaces including Baire's theorem and the Uniform limit theorem for intuitionistic fuzzy metric spaces.  相似文献

If κ is a cardinal number, then any class of mutually non-homeomorphic metric spaces of size κ must be a set whose cardinality cannot exceed 2 κ . Our main result is a vivid construction of 2 κ mutually non-homeomorphic complete and both path connected and locally path connected metric spaces of size κ for each cardinal number κ from continuum up. Additionally we also deal with counting problems concerning countable metric spaces and Euclidean spaces.  相似文献

Scalarization method is an important tool in the study of vector optimization as corresponding solutions of vector optimization problems can be found by solving scalar optimization problems. Recently this has been applied by Du (2010) [14] to investigate the equivalence of vectorial versions of fixed point theorems of contractive mappings in generalized cone metric spaces and scalar versions of fixed point theorems in general metric spaces in usual sense. In this paper, we find out that the topology induced by topological vector space valued cone metric coincides with the topology induced by the metric obtained via a nonlinear scalarization function, i.e any topological vector space valued cone metric space is metrizable, prove a completion theorem, and also obtain some more results in topological vector space valued cone normed spaces.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce the concept of a fuzzy metric space. The distance between two points in a fuzzy metric space is a non-negative, upper semicontinuous, normal and convex fuzzy number. Properties of fuzzy metric spaces are studied and some fixed point theorems are proved.  相似文献

It is well known that any metric space is paracompact. As a generalization of metric spaces, cone metric spaces play very important role in fixed point theory, computer science, and some other research areas as well as in general topology. The concept of p-convergence in fuzzy metric spaces, in George and Veeramani's sense, has been recently given by D. Mihet in [D. Mihet, On fuzzy contractive mappings in fuzzy metric spaces, Fuzzy Sets and Systems 158 (2007) 915-921]. In this note we study some aspects relative to this concept and characterize those fuzzy metric spaces, that we call principal, in which the family of p-convergent sequences agrees with the family of convergent sequences. We investigate the relations ofalmost isometric embedding and ofalmost isometry between metric spaces. These relations have several appealing features. For example, all isomorphism types of countable dense subsets of ∝ form exactly one almostisometry class, and similarly with countable dense subsets of Uryson's universal separable metric spaceU. We investigate geometric, set-theoretic and model-theoretic aspects of almost isometry and of almost isometric embedding. The main results show that almost isometric embeddability behaves in the category ofseparable metric spaces differently than in the category of general metric spaces. While in the category of general metric spaces the behavior of universality resembles that in the category of linear orderings —namely, no universal structure can exist on a regular λ > ℵ1 below the continuum—in the category of separable metric spaces universality behaves more like that in the category of graphs, that is, a small number of metric separable metric spaces on an uncountable regular λ<2 0 may consistently almost isometrically embed all separable metric spaces on λ. We give characterizations of perfect images and open and compact images of spaces that can be mapped onto metrizable spaces by a mapping with fibers having a given property P. We use these characterizations to obtain conditions which imply that such images can be mapped onto a metric space by a mapping with fibers satisfying P. The main result, in Theorem 3, is that in the category Unif of Hausdorff uniform spaces and uniformly continuous maps, the coreflective hulls of the following classes are cartesian-closed: all metric spaces having no infinite uniform partition, all connected metric spaces, all bounded metric spaces, and all injective metric spaces.Furthermore, Theorems 1 and 4 imply that if C is any coreflective, cartesian-closed subcategory of Unif in which enough function space structures are finer than the uniformity of uniform convergence (as in the above examples), then either (1) C is a subclass of the locally fine spaces, or (2) C contains all injective metric spaces and C is a subclass of the coreflective hull of all uniform spaces having no infinite uniform partition.  相似文献

This article is concerned with gradient flows in asymmetric metric spaces, that is, spaces with a topology induced by an asymmetric metric. Such an asymmetry appears naturally in many applications, e.g., in mathematical models for materials with hysteresis. A framework of asymmetric gradient flows is established under the assumption that the metric is weakly lower-semicontinuous in the second argument (and not necessarily on the first), and an existence theorem for gradient flows defined on an asymmetric metric space is given.  相似文献
