Gelfand transforms of polyradial Schwartz functions on the Heisenberg group

We prove that the Gelfand transform is a topological isomorphism between the space of polyradial Schwartz functions on the Heisenberg group and the space of Schwartz functions on the Heisenberg brush. We obtain analogous results for radial Schwartz functions on Heisenberg type groups.     

Symmetric pairs, Gelfand pairs and pairs such that generating functions of zonal spherical functions define unitary operators—the case of the compact type

A new notion which is equivalent neither to that of Riemannian symmetric pair nor to that of Gelfand pair can be defined by generating functions. In the case of the compact type, this statement is shown. This notion also concerns an existence of a “good” parametrization for the spherical representations. These mean that generating functions can be dealt with systematically in the compact case.     

The growth of H-harmonic functions on the Heisenberg group

We discuss the relationship between the frequency and the growth of H-harmonic functions on the Heisenberg group.Precisely,we prove that an H-harmonic function must be a polynomial if its frequency is globally bounded.Moreover,we show that a class of H-harmonic functions are homogeneous polynomials provided that the frequency of such a function is equal to some constant.     

Positive definite temperature functions on the Heisenberg group

We characterize positive definite temperature functions, i.e., positive definite solutions of the heat equation, on the Heisenberg group in terms of the initial values. We also obtain an integral representation for positive definite and U(n)-invariant temperature functions with polynomial growth, where U(n) is the group of all n× n unitary matrices.     

Supercuspidal Gelfand pairs

If G is a totally disconnected group and H is a closed subgroup then, according to the Gelfand-Kazhdan Lemma, if the double coset space H?G/H is preserved by an antiautomorphism of G of order two then (G,H) must be a Gelfand pair in the sense that Hom_H(π,1) has dimension at most one for each irreducible, admissible representation π of G. Under certain rather general restrictions, we show that if the symmetry property holds only for almost all double cosets, then (G,H) is a supercuspidal Gelfand pair in the sense that for all irreducible, supercuspidal representations π of G. There exist examples of supercuspidal Gelfand pairs which are not Gelfand pairs.     

Constant angle surfaces in the Heisenberg group

In this article we extend the notion of constant angle surfaces in $ \mathbb{S}^2 $ \mathbb{S}^2 × ℝ and ℍ² × ℝ to general Bianchi-Cartan-Vranceanu spaces. We show that these surfaces have constant Gaussian curvature and we give a complete local classification in the Heisenberg group.     

Lipschitz continuity of refinable functions on the Heisenberg group

In this paper, the Lipschitz continuity of refinable functions related to the general acceptable dilations on the Heisenberg group will be investigated in terms of the uniform joint spectral radius. We also give an investigation of the refinable functions in the generalized Lipschitz spaces related to a kind of special acceptable dilations.

Gelfand pairs,K-spherical means and injectivity on the Heisenberg group

We study the injectivity properties of the spherical mean value operators associated to the Gelfand pairs (H ⁿ,K), whereK is a compact subgroup ofU(n). We show that these spherical mean value operators are injective onL ^p Hⁿ) for 1≤p<∞. Forp=∞, these operators are not injective. Nevertheless, if the spherical meansf*μ _i overK-orbits of sufficiently many points (z _i,t _i) ∈H ⁿ vanish, we identify a necessary and sufficient condition on the points (z _i,t _i) which guaranteesf=0. ForK=U(n), this is equivalent to the condition for the two-radius theorem. Research supported by N.B.H.M. Research Grant, Govt. of India.     

Green functions and related boundary value problems on the Heisenberg group

In this article, a modified Kelvin transform on ? _n using inversion with respect to a ball of arbitrary radius is defined, which gives explicit expressions for Green's function and Poisson's kernel for the Korányi ball of arbitrary radius and annular domain. The solution of the Dirichlet problem for the union of two balls is discussed using the Schwarz's alternating method.

The heat kernel transform for the Heisenberg group

The heat kernel transform H_t is studied for the Heisenberg group in detail. The main result shows that the image of H_t is a direct sum of two weighted Bergman spaces, in contrast to the classical case of Rⁿ and compact symmetric spaces, and the weight functions are found to be (surprisingly) not non-negative.     

Accessible domains in the Heisenberg group

We study the problem of accessibility of boundary points for domains in the sub-Riemannian setting of the first Heisenberg group. A sufficient condition for accessibility is given. It is a Dini-type continuity condition for the horizontal gradient of the defining function. The sharpness of this condition is shown by examples.

     

Hardy type and Rellich type inequalities on the Heisenberg group

This paper contains some interesting Hardy type inequalities and Rellich type inequalities for the left invariant vector fields on the Heisenberg group.

     

Non-solvability for a class of left-invariant second-order differential operators on the Heisenberg group

We study the question of local solvability for second-order, left-invariant differential operators on the Heisenberg group , of the form

where is a complex matrix. Such operators never satisfy a cone condition in the sense of Sjöstrand and Hörmander. We may assume that cannot be viewed as a differential operator on a lower-dimensional Heisenberg group. Under the mild condition that and their commutator are linearly independent, we show that is not locally solvable, even in the presence of lower-order terms, provided that . In the case we show that there are some operators of the form described above that are locally solvable. This result extends to the Heisenberg group a phenomenon first observed by Karadzhov and Müller in the case of It is interesting to notice that the analysis of the exceptional operators for the case turns out to be more elementary than in the case When the analysis of these operators seems to become quite complex, from a technical point of view, and it remains open at this time.

We prove some sharp Hardy-Rellich inequalities on the Heisenberg group, using the method given by D.G. Costa in [D.G. Costa, Some new and short proofs for a class of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 337 (2008) 311-317].
