In this paper we prove that if E and F are reflexive Banach spaces and G is a closed linear subspace of the space \(\mathcal {L}_{K}(E;F)\) of all compact linear operators from E into F, then G is either reflexive or non-isomorphic to a dual space. This result generalizes (Israel J Math 21:38-49, 1975, Theorem 2) and gives the solution to a problem posed by Feder (Ill J Math 24:196-205, 1980, Problem 1). We also prove that if E and F are reflexive Banach spaces, then the space \(\mathcal {P}_{w}(^{n}E;F)\) of all n-homogeneous polynomials from E into F which are weakly continuous on bounded sets is either reflexive or non-isomorphic to a dual space.  相似文献

We consider various aspects of the Segre variety \({\mathcal{S}:=\mathcal{S} _{1,1,1}(2)}\) in PG(7, 2), whose stabilizer group \({\mathcal{G}_{\mathcal{S}}<{\rm GL}(8,2)}\) has the structure \({\mathcal{N}\rtimes{\rm Sym}(3),}\) where \({\mathcal{N} :={\rm GL}(2,2)\times{\rm GL}(2,2)\times{\rm GL} (2,2).}\) In particular we prove that \({\mathcal{S}}\) determines a distinguished Z 3-subgroup \({\mathcal{Z}<{\rm GL}(8,2)}\) such that \({A\mathcal{Z}A^{-1}=\mathcal{Z},}\) for all \({A\in\mathcal{G}_{\mathcal{S}},}\) and in consequence \({\mathcal{S}}\) determines a \({\mathcal{G}_{\mathcal{S}}}\)-invariant spread of 85 lines in PG(7, 2). Furthermore we see that Segre varieties \({\mathcal{S}_{1,1,1}(2)}\) in PG(7, 2) come along in triplets \({\{\mathcal{S},\mathcal{S}^{\prime},\mathcal{S}^{\prime\prime}\}}\) which share the same distinguished Z 3-subgroup \({\mathcal{Z}<{\rm GL}(8,2).}\) We conclude by determining all fifteen \({\mathcal{G}_{\mathcal{S}}}\)-invariant polynomial functions on PG(7, 2) which have degree < 8, and their relation to the five \({\mathcal{G}_{\mathcal{S}}}\)-orbits of points in PG(7, 2).  相似文献

Four constructions of constant mean curvature (CMC) hypersurfaces in \mathbb Sn+1{\mathbb {S}^{n+1}} are given, which should be considered analogues of ‘classical’ constructions that are possible for CMC hypersurfaces in Euclidean space. First, Delaunay-like hypersurfaces, consisting roughly of a chain of hyperspheres winding multiple times around an equator, are shown to exist for all the values of the mean curvature. Second, a hypersurface is constructed which consists of two chains of spheres winding around a pair of orthogonal equators, showing that Delaunay-like hypersurfaces can be fused together in a symmetric manner. Third, a Delaunay-like handle can be attached to a generalized Clifford torus of the same mean curvature. Finally, two generalized Clifford tori of equal but opposite mean curvature of any magnitude can be attached to each other by symmetrically positioned Delaunay-like ‘arms’. This last result extends Butscher and Pacard’s doubling construction for generalized Clifford tori of small mean curvature.  相似文献

For positive integers p = k + 2, we construct a logarithmic extension of the conformal field theory of integrable representations by taking the kernel of two fermionic screening operators in a butterfly resolution of a three-boson realization of . The currents W(z) and W+(z) of a W-algebra acting in the kernel are determined by a highest-weight state of dimension 4p − 2 and charge 2p − 1 and by a (θ=1)-twisted highest-weight state of the same dimension 4p − 2 and opposite charge −2p+1. We construct 2p W-algebra representations, evaluate their characters, and show that together with the p−1 integrable representation characters, they generate a modular group representation whose structure is described as a deformation of the (9p−3)-dimensional representation R p+1⊕ℂ2R p+1ʕR p−1⊕ℂ2 R p−1⊕ℂ3 R p−1, where R p−1 is the SL(2, ℤ)-representation on integrable-representation characters and R p+1 is a (p+1)-dimensional SL(2, ℤ)-representation known from the logarithmic (p, 1) model. The dimension 9p − 3 is conjecturally the dimension of the space of torus amplitudes, and the ℂn with n = 2 and 3 suggest the Jordan cell sizes in indecomposable W-algebra modules. We show that under Hamiltonian reduction, the W-algebra currents map into the currents of the triplet W-algebra of the logarithmic (p, 1) model. __________ Translated from Teoreticheskaya i Matematicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 153, No. 3, pp. 291–346, December, 2007.  相似文献

Abstract. T. Kato [9] found an important property of semi-Fredholm pencils, now called the Kato decomposition. Few years later, M.A. Kaashoek [7] introduced operators having the property as a generalization of semi-Fredholm operators. In [4], it is proved that these two notions are linked. The aim of this work is to study the stability of the property under finite perturbation.  相似文献

Laguerre geometry of surfaces in is given in the book of Blaschke [Vorlesungen über Differentialgeometrie, Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York (1929)], and has been studied by Musso and Nicolodi [Trans. Am. Math. soc. 348, 4321–4337 (1996); Abh. Math. Sem. Univ. Hamburg 69, 123–138 (1999); Int. J. Math. 11(7), 911–924 (2000)], Palmer [Remarks on a variation problem in Laguerre geometry. Rendiconti di Mathematica, Serie VII, Roma, vol. 19, pp. 281–293 (1999)] and other authors. In this paper we study Laguerre differential geometry of hypersurfaces in . For any umbilical free hypersurface with non-zero principal curvatures we define a Laguerre invariant metric g on M and a Laguerre invariant self-adjoint operator : TM → TM, and show that is a complete Laguerre invariant system for hypersurfaces in with n≥ 4. We calculate the Euler–Lagrange equation for the Laguerre volume functional of Laguerre metric by using Laguerre invariants. Using the Euclidean space , the semi-Euclidean space and the degenerate space we define three Laguerre space forms , and and define the Laguerre embeddings and , analogously to what happens in the Moebius geometry where we have Moebius space forms S n , and (spaces of constant curvature) and conformal embeddings and [cf. Liu et al. in Tohoku Math. J. 53, 553–569 (2001) and Wang in Manuscr. Math. 96, 517–534 (1998)]. Using these Laguerre embeddings we can unify the Laguerre geometry of hypersurfaces in , and . Let F be an \(L^2\)-normalized Hecke Maaß cusp form for \(\Gamma _0(N) \subseteq {\mathrm{SL}}_{n}({\mathbb {Z}})\) with Laplace eigenvalue \(\lambda _F\). If \(\Omega \) is a compact subset of \(\Gamma _0(N)\backslash {\mathrm{PGL}}_n/\mathrm{PO}_{n}\), we show the bound \(\Vert F|_{\Omega }\Vert _{\infty } \ll _{ \Omega } N^{\varepsilon } \lambda _F^{n(n-1)/8 - \delta }\) for some constant \(\delta = \delta _n> 0\) depending only on n.  相似文献

Bounds are obtained for the \(L^p\) norm of the torsion function \(v_{\varOmega }\), i.e. the solution of \(-\varDelta v=1,\, v\in H_0^1(\varOmega ),\) in terms of the Lebesgue measure of \(\varOmega \) and the principal eigenvalue \(\lambda _1(\varOmega )\) of the Dirichlet Laplacian acting in \(L^2(\varOmega )\). We show that these bounds are sharp for \(1\le p\le 2\).

We generalize the concept of K-convexity to an n-dimensional Euclidean space. The resulting concept of -convexity is useful in addressing production and inventory problems where there are individual product setup costs and/or joint setup costs. We derive some basic properties of -convex functions. We conclude the paper with some suggestions for future research. The techniques developed by Butscher (Gluing constructions amongst constant mean curvature hypersurfaces of ) for constructing constant mean curvature (CMC) hypersurfaces in by gluing together spherical building blocks are generalized to handle less symmetric initial configurations. The outcome is that the approximately CMC hypersurface obtained by gluing the initial configuration together can be perturbed into an exactly CMC hypersurface only when certain global geometric conditions are met. These balancing conditions are analogous to those that must be satisfied in the “classical” context of gluing constructions of CMC hypersurfaces in Euclidean space, although they are more restrictive in the case. An example of an initial configuration is given which demonstrates this fact; and another example of an initial configuration is given which possesses no symmetries at all.  相似文献

We give a classification of Sasakian manifolds that are CR-equivalent to hyperquadrics by describing their exact parameter space. For “ half” of the parameter space, we find an explicit representation by defining equations. This problem is related to the problem of finding pseudo-Kähler potentials with prescribed Ricci curvature.  相似文献

In this note, we establish two identities of \((q;\,q)_\infty ^8\) by using Jacobi’s four-square theorem and two of Ramanujan’s identities. As an important consequence, we present one Ramanujan-style proof of the congruence \(p_{-3}(11n+7)\equiv 0\ (\mathrm{mod\ }11)\), where \(p_{-3}(n)\) denotes the number of 3-color partitions of n.  相似文献
