The adsorption of 0.25, 0.5 and 1 monolayer (ML) of the transition metal Ni on the metal substrate Al(1 1 0) was studied using first-principles calculations at the level of density functional theory. The metal–metal system was analyzed with the generalized gradient approximation. Four stable atomic configurations were considered, and the optimized geometries and adsorption energies of different Ni adsorption sites on the Al(1 1 0) surface at selected levels of coverage were calculated and compared. The four-fold hollow site was determined to be the most stable adsorption site with adsorption energy of 5.101 eV at 0.25 ML, 3.874 eV at 0.5 ML and 3.665 eV at 1 ML. The adsorption energies of the four sites slightly decreased as the Ni coverage increased. Work function analysis showed that when Ni is adsorbed on the Al(1 1 0) surface, the work function decreased as the coverage increased due to depolarization. The Mulliken population and density of states were calculated to determine the charge distribution of the adsorption site, confirming that a chemisorption interaction exists between the adsorbed Ni atom and Al(1 1 0) surface atoms. 相似文献

应用密度泛函理论,本文系统地研究了O在Au(111)表面上的吸附能、吸附结构、功函数、电子密度和投影态密度,给出了覆盖度从0.11ML到1.0ML的范围内,O的吸附特性随覆盖度变化的规律.研究发现O的稳定吸附位为3重面心立方(fcc)洞位,O在fcc洞位的吸附能对覆盖度比较敏感,其值随着覆盖度的增加而减小;O诱导Au(111)表面功函数的变化量与覆盖度成近线性关系,原因是Au表面电子向O偏移,形成表面偶极子;O—Au的相互作用形成成键态和反键态,且反键态都被占据,造成O—Au键很弱,O吸附能较小.

A first principles study is performed to investigate the adsorption characteristics of hydrogen on magnesium surface. Substitutional and on-surface adsorption energies are calculated for Mg (0 0 0 1) surface alloyed with the selected elements. To further analyze the hydrogen-magnesium interaction, first principles molecular dynamics method is used which simulates the behavior of H2 at the surface. Also, charge density differences of substitutionally doped surface configurations were illustrated. Accordingly, Mo and Ni are among the elements yielding lower adsorption energies, which are found to be −9.2626 and −5.2995 eV for substitutionally alloyed surfaces, respectively. In light of the dynamic calculations, Co as an alloying element is found to have a splitting effect on H2 in 50 fs, where the first hydrogen atom is taken inside the Mg substrate right after the decomposition and the other after 1300 fs. An interesting remark is that, elements which acquire higher chances of adsorption are also seen to be competent at dissociating the hydrogen molecule. Furthermore, charge density distributions support the results of molecular dynamics simulations, by verifying the distinguished effects of most of the 3d and 4d transition metals. 相似文献

In this study the adsorption geometry of aspirin molecule on a hydroxylated (0 0 1) α-quartz surface has been investigated using DFT calculations. The optimized adsorption geometry indicates that both, adsorbed molecule and substrate are strongly deformed. Strong hydrogen bonding between aspirin and surface hydroxyls, leads to the breaking of the original hydroxyl–hydroxyl hydrogen bonds (Hydrogenbridges) on the surface. In this case new hydrogen bonds on the hydroxylated (0 0 1) α-quartz surface appear which significantly differ from those at the clean surface. The 1.11 eV adsorption energy reveals that the interaction of aspirin with α-quartz is an exothermic chemical interaction. 相似文献

We present a density-functional theory study addressing the energetics and electronic structure properties of isolated oxygen adatoms at the SrTiO3(0 0 1) surface. Together with a surface lattice oxygen atom, the adsorbate is found to form a peroxide-type molecular species. This gives rise to a non-trivial topology of the potential energy surface for lateral adatom motion, with the most stable adsorption site not corresponding to the one expected from a continuation of the perovskite lattice. With computed modest diffusion barriers below 1 eV, it is rather the overall too weak binding at both regular SrTiO3(0 0 1) terminations that could be a critical factor for oxide film growth applications. 相似文献

本文利用密度泛函理论研究了Rh原子在(6,6)单壁碳纳米管内外的吸附行为. 通过对Rh在单壁碳纳米管上不同吸附位的吸附构型与吸附能的研究发现: Rh吸附在管内、外的洞位最稳定, 且管外吸附比在管内强. 这是由于单壁碳纳米管的卷曲效应使得管外电荷密度比管内大造成的. 态密度分析表明, 吸附在管内外的Rh原子的5s电子均转移到了4d轨道上; Rh原子4d轨道上的电子转移到了(6, 6)碳管上, 使Rh带正电, 碳管带负电. 结合能带分析表明, Rh原子吸附在管内磁性较弱, 而吸附在管外较强.

Density functional theory investigation of carbon monoxide adsorption on the kaolinite(001) surface 下载免费PDF全文
Carbon monoxide(CO) is a gaseous pollutant with adverse effects on human health and the environment. Kaolinite is a natural mineral resource that can be used for different applications, including that it can also be used for retention of pollutant gases. The adsorption behavior of carbon monoxide molecules on the(001) surface of kaolinite was studied systematically by using density-functional theory and supercell models for a range coverage from 0.11 to 1.0 monolayers(ML). The CO adsorbed on the three-fold hollow, two-fold bridge, and one-fold top sites of the kaolinite(001) was tilted with respect to the surface. The strongest adsorbed site of carbon monoxide on the kaolinite(001) surface is the hollow site followed by the bridge and top site. The adsorption energy of CO decreased when increasing the coverage, thus indicating the lower stability of surface adsorption due to the repulsion of neighboring CO molecules. In addition to the adsorption structures and energetics, the lattice relaxation, the electronic density of states, and the different charge distribution have been investigated for different surface coverages. 相似文献

The microscopic reaction mechanism for CO oxidation on Cu(3 1 1) surface has been investigated by means of comprehensive density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The elementary steps studied include O2 adsorption and dissociation, dissociated O atom adsorption and diffusion, as well as CO adsorption and oxidation on the metal. Our results reveal that O2 is considerably reactive on the Cu(3 1 1) surface and will spontaneously dissociate at several adsorption states, which process are highly dependent on the orientation and site of the adsorbed oxygen molecule. The dissociated O atom may likely diffuse via inner terrace sites or from a terrace site to a step site due to the low barriers. Furthermore, we find that the energetically most favorable site for CO molecule on Cu(3 1 1) is the step edge site. According to our calculations, the reaction barrier of CO + O → CO2 is about 0.3 eV lower in energy than that of CO + O2 → CO2 + O, suggesting the former mechanism play a main role in CO oxidation on the Cu(3 1 1) surface. 相似文献

The adsorption of atomic Se on a Fe(1 1 0) surface is examined using the density functional theory (DFT). Selenium is adsorbed in high-symmetry adsorption sites: the -short and long-bridge, and atop sites at 1/2, 1/4, and 1 monolayer (ML) coverages. The long bridge (LB) site is found to be the most stable, followed by the short bridge (SB) and top sites (T). The following overlayer structures were examined, p(2 × 2), c(2 × 2), and p(1 × 1), which correspond to 1/4 ML, 1/2 ML, and 1 ML respectively. Adsorption energy is −5.23 eV at 1/4 ML. Se adsorption results in surface reconstruction, being more extensive for adsorption in the long bridge site at 1/2 ML, with vertical displacements between +8.63 and −6.69% -with regard to the original Fe position-, affecting the 1st and 2nd neighbours. The largest displacement in x or y-directions was determined to be 0.011, 0.030, and 0.021 Å for atop and bridge sites. Comparisons between Se-adsorbed and pure Fe surfaces revealed reductions in the magnetic moments of surface-layer Fe atoms in the vicinity of the Se. At the long bridge site, the presence of Se causes a decrease in the surface Fe d-orbital density of states between 4 and 5 eV below Fermi level. The density of states present a contribution of Se states at −3.1 eV and −12.9 eV. stabilized after adsorption. The Fe-Fe overlap population decrease and a Fe-Se bond are formed at the expense of the metallic bond. 相似文献

The adsorption of the cysteine amino acid (H–SCβH2–CαH–NH2–COOH) on the Au55 cluster is investigated through density functional theory calculations. Two isomers, with icosahedral (Ih) and chiral (C1) geometries, of the Au55 cluster are used to calculate the adsorption energy of the cysteine on different facets of these isomers. Results, only involving the S(thiolate)-Au bonding show that the higher adsorption energies are obtained when the sulfur atom is bonded to an asymmetrical bridge site at the facet containing Au atoms with the lowest coordination of the C1 cluster isomer. 相似文献

The adsorption of CO on Au(3 1 0) and Au(3 2 1) was studied using a combination of thermal desorption spectroscopy and high resolution core level photoemission spectroscopy. These vicinal Au surfaces both have 6-fold coordinated atoms at the step edges but have a different terrace structure. The CO adsorption behavior was found to be very similar for both surfaces. Three different desorption peaks due to chemisorbed CO were identified, which desorb around 100 K(α), 120 K(β) and 180 K(γ), respectively. The C1s and O1s spectra of the chemisorbed CO show a complex shake-up structure. Our experimental results indicate that CO only adsorbs on the step atoms. The different desorption peaks are explained by substrate-mediated long-range interactions between the adsorbates. Comparison with literature results shows that the CO adsorption energy is not only dependent on the coordination number of the Au atoms, but that the exact geometrical structure of the surface also plays a role. 相似文献

Photoemission results indicate that the initial adsorption of cobaltocene on Cu(1 1 1) at 150 K leads to molecular fragmentation, but with subsequent cobaltocene exposures, molecular absorption occurs. The molecularly adsorbed species is either adsorbed with only a fraction of molecules adopting a preferential orientation along the surface normal or adsorbed with the molecular axis away from the surface normal. The interaction of an oxygen atom with various gold surfaces was examined computationally using density functional theory. The relative binding energies for a range of possible adatom locations on each surface were obtained. The results demonstrated the relative importance of low-coordinated gold atoms to bind oxygen for a particular surface and a preference for three-fold adatom coordination over the two-fold and single-coordination sites. Pseudo-potential energy curves were obtained by following the calculated energy as a function of surface position. These general results provide a reference for the interaction of oxygen atoms with gold nanoparticles that may project faces similar to the surfaces studied here. 相似文献
