Measurements of the flow field around a flat plate and rigid plates with spanwise periodic cambering were performed using volumetric three-component velocimetry (V3V) at a Reynolds numbers of 28,000 at α=12° where the flow is fully separated. The Reynolds normal and shear stresses, and the streamwise, spanwise and normal components of the vorticity vector are investigated for three-dimensionality. Flow features are discussed in context of the periodic cambering and corresponding aerodynamic force measurements. The periodic cambering results in spanwise variation in the reversed-flow region, Reynolds stresses and spanwise vorticity. These spanwise variations are induced by streamwise and normal vortices of opposite directions of rotation. Moreover, measurements were carried out for the cambered plates at α=8°, where a long separation bubble exists, to further understand the behavior of the streamwise and normal vortices. These vortices become more organized and increase in strength and size at the lower angle of attack. It is also speculated that these vortices contribute to the increase in lift at and beyond the onset of stall angle of attack.  相似文献

 Turbulence measurements are reported on the three-dimensional turbulent boundary layer along the centerline of the flat endwall in a 30° bend. Profiles of mean velocities and Reynolds stresses were obtained down to y +≈2 for the mean flow and y +≈8 for the turbulent stresses. Mean velocity data collapsed well on a simple law-of-the-wall based on the magnitude of the resultant velocity. The turbulence intensity and turbulent shear stress magnitude both increased with increased three-dimensionality. The ratio of these two quantities, the a 1 structure parameter, decreased in the central regions of the boundary layer and showed profile similarity for y +<50. The shear stress vector angle lagged behind the velocity gradient vector angle in the outer region of the boundary layer, however there was an indication that the shear stress vector tends to lead the velocity gradient vector close to the wall.  Laser-Doppler measurements were conducted in a plane turbulent wall jet at a Reynolds number based on inlet velocity, Re 0, of 9600. The initial development as well as the fully developed flow was studied. Special attention was given to the near-wall region, including the use of small measuring volumes and the application of specific near-wall data corrections, so that wall shear stresses were determined directly from the mean velocity gradient at the wall using only data below y +=4. It was possible to resolve the inner peak in the streamwise turbulence intensity as well as the inner (negative) peak in the shear stress. Limiting values of (u′)+ and uv + were determined. Turbulence data from the outer region of the flow were compared to earlier hot wire measurements and large differences in the normal turbulence intensity and the shear stress were found. A two-component laser Doppler velocimeter with high spatial and temporal resolution was used to obtain measurements for fully developed turbulent flow of water through a channel with an aspect ratio of 12 : 1 at Re=5700 (based on the centerline velocity and the half-height of the channel). Statistical quantities that were determined are the mean streamwise velocity, the root-mean-square of the fluctuations of the streamwise and the normal velocities, the Reynolds shear stress and higher order moments. Turbulence production is calculated from these quantities. Turbulence statistics obtained from experiments are compared with results from a direct numerical simulation at the same Reynolds number. The good agreement validates a recent DNS, at Re=5700, which is approximately twice as large as used in most previous studies. Received: 12 May 1997 / Accepted: 8 April 1998  相似文献

Time resolved Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) experiments were carried out to investigate turbulent, subcooled boiling flow of refrigerant HFE-301 through a vertical rectangular channel with one heated wall. Measurements were performed with liquid Reynolds numbers (based on the hydraulic diameter) of Re = 3309, 9929 and 16,549 over a wall heat flux range of 0.0–64.0 kW/m2. Turbulence statistics are inferred from PTV full-field velocity measurements. Quantities such as: instantaneous 2D velocity fields, time-averaged axial and normal velocities, axial and normal turbulence intensities, and Reynolds stresses are obtained. The present results agree well with previous studies and provides new information due to the full-field nature of the technique. This work is an attempt to provide turbulent subcooled boiling flow data for validation and improvement of two-phase flow computational models.  相似文献

Turbulence modulation by the inertia particles in a spatially developing turbulent boundary layer flow over a hemisphere-roughened wall was investigated using the direct numerical simulation method. The Eulerian and Lagrangian approaches were used for the gas- and particle-phases, respectively. An immersed boundary method was employed to resolve the hemispherical roughness element. The hemispheres were staggered in the downstream direction and arranged periodically in the streamwise and spanwise directions with spacing of px/d= 4 and pz/d= 2 (where px and pz are the streamwise and spanwise spacing of the hemispheres, and d is the diameter). The effects of particles on the turbulent coherent structures, turbulent statistics and quadrant events were analyzed. The results show that the addition of particles significantly damps the vortices structures and increases the length scales of streak structures. Compared with the particle-laden flow over the smooth wall, the existence of the wall roughness decreases the mean streamwise velocity in the near wall region, and makes the peaks of Reynolds stresses profiles shift up. In addition, the existence of particles also increases the percentage contributions to Reynolds shear stress from the Q4 events, however, decreases the percentage contributions from other quadrant events.  相似文献

Extensive single point turbulence measurements made in the boundary layer on a mildly curved heated convex wall show that the turbulence heat fluxes and Stanton number are more sensitive to a change in wall curvature than the Reynolds stresses and skinfriction coefficient, and that downstream, as the flow adjusts to new curved conditions, the St/c f ratio of Reynolds analogy is appreciably lower than in plane wall flow for the same conditions. Details of the turbulence structure in unheated flow have been documented in an earlier paper; temperature field measurements now described comprise mean temperature distributions, the streamwise variation of wall heat flux, profiles of the temperature variance, transverse and streamwise heat fluxes, and triple correlations. Turbulent diffusion of heat flux is drastically reduced even by mild curvature; changes in the heat fluxes are of the same order as changes in the shear stress, that is, an order of magnitude greater than the ratio of boundary layer thickness to wall radius of curvature. The data include plane flow measurements taken in a developed boundary layer upstream of a change in wall curvature.  相似文献

Near-wall measurements are performed to study the effects of surface roughness and viscous shear stresses on the transitionally rough regime (5 < k + < 70) of a zero pressure gradient turbulent boundary layer. The x-dependence is known from the eleven consecutive measurements in the streamwise direction, which allows for the computation of the streamwise gradients in the boundary layer equations. Thus, the skin friction is computed from the integrated boundary layer equation with errors of 3 and 5% for smooth and rough, respectively. It is found that roughness destroys the viscous layer near the wall, thus, reducing the contribution of the viscous stress in the wall region. As a result, the contribution in the wall shear stress due to form drag increases, while the viscous stress decreases. This yields Reynolds number invariance in the skin friction as k + increases into the fully rough regime. Furthermore, the roughness at the wall reduces the high peak of the streamwise component of the Reynolds stress in the near-wall region. However, for the Reynolds wall-normal and shear stress components, its contribution is not significantly altered for sand grain roughness.  相似文献

An experimental study of a fully developed turbulent channel flow and an adverse pressure gradient (APG) turbulent channel flow over smooth and rough walls has been performed using a particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique. The rough walls comprised two-dimensional square ribs of nominal height, k = 3 mm and pitch, p = 2k, 4k and 8k. It was observed that rib roughness enhanced the drag characteristics, and the degree of enhancement increased with increasing pitch. Similarly, rib roughness significantly increased the level of turbulence production, Reynolds stresses and wall-normal transport of turbulence kinetic energy and Reynolds shear stress well beyond the roughness sublayer. On the contrary, the distributions of the eddy viscosity, mixing length and streamwise transport of turbulence kinetic energy and Reynolds shear stress were reduced by wall roughness, especially in the outer layer. Adverse pressure gradient produced a further reduction in the mean velocity (in comparison to the results obtained in the parallel section) but increased the wall-normal extent across which the mean flow above the ribs is spatially inhomogeneous in the streamwise direction. APG also reinforced wall roughness in augmenting the equivalent sand grain roughness height. The combination of wall roughness and APG significantly increased turbulence production and Reynolds stresses except in the immediate vicinity of the rough walls. The transport velocities of the turbulence kinetic energy and Reynolds shear stress were also augmented by APG across most part of the rough-wall boundary layer. Further, APG enhanced the distributions of the eddy viscosity across most of the boundary layer but reduced the mixing length outside the roughness sublayer.  相似文献

PIV measurements are performed in a channel with periodic ribs on one wall. The emphasis of this study is to investigate the flow structures in the vicinity of a rib in terms of mean velocities, Reynolds stresses, probability density functions (PDF), and two-point correlations. The PDF distribution of u′ is bimodal in the separated shear layer downstream of the rib. The maximum Reynolds shear stresses occur at the leading edge of the rib. Based on quadrant analysis, it is found that ejection motions make a dominant contribution to the Reynolds shear stress in this region. Moreover, topology-based visualization is applied to the separation bubble upstream of the rib. Salient critical points and limit cycles are extracted, which gives clues to the physical processes occurring in the flow.  相似文献

Calculations of mean velocities and Reynolds stresses are reported for the recirculating flow established in the wake of two‐dimensional polynomial‐shaped obstacles that are symmetrical about a vertical axis and mounted in the water channel downstream of a fully developed channel flow for Re=6×104. The study involves calculations of mean and fluctuating flow properties in the streamwise and spanwise directions and include comparisons with experimental data [Almeida GP, Durão DFG, Heitor MV. Wake flows behind two‐dimensional model hills. Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science 1993; 7: 87–101] for flow around a single obstacle with data resulting from the interaction of consecutive obstacles, using two versions of the low‐Reynolds number differential second‐moment (DSM) closure model. The results include analysis of the turbulent stresses in local flow co‐ordinates and reveal flow structure qualitatively similar to that found in other turbulent flows with a reattachment zone. It is found that the standard isotropization of production model (IPM), based on that proposed by Gibson and Launder [Ground effects on pressure fluctuations in the atmospheric boundary layer. Journal of Fluid Mechanics 1978; 86(3): 191–511], with the incorporation of the wall reflection model of Craft and Launder [New wall‐reflection model applied to the turbulent impinging jet. AIAA Journal 1992; 32(12): 2970–2972] predicts the mean velocities quite well, but underestimates the size of the recirculation region and turbulent quantities in the shear layer. These inadequacies are circumvented by adopting a new cubic Reynolds stress closure scheme based on that more recently developed by Craft and Launder [A Reynolds stress closure designed for complex geometries. International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow 1996; 17: 245–254] which satisfies the two component limit (TCL) of turbulence. In this model the geometry‐specific quantities, such as the wall‐normal vector or wall distance, are replaced by invariant dimensionless gradient indicators. Also, the model captures the diverse behaviour of the different components of the stress dissipation, εij, near the wall and uses a novel decomposition for the fluctuating pressure terms. Velocity and wall temperature measurements, over flat plate, concave and convex walls, were experimentally investigated in a low-speed wind tunnel with inlet velocities of 4 and 12 m/s encompassing the transitional region with streamwise distance Reynolds numbers from 3.15×105 to 1.04×106. As the velocity profiles, recorded by a semi-circular pitot tube and a digital constant-temperature hot-wire anemometer, were compared to exact Blasius profile and (1/7)th power law, experimental local Stanton numbers to analytical flat plate solution and turbulent correlation formula. Intermittency factors, derived from velocities and local Stanton numbers, were presented both in streamwise and pitchwise directions. It was found that the convex curvature delayed transition up to Re x =1.04×106, with a mean intermittency value of 0.61 and a shape factor of 1.81, where the similar intermittency and shape factors were determined at Re x of 8.33×105 and 4.25×105 for the flat plate and concave wall, indicating the enhancing role of concave curvature on the transition mechanism. The thinner boundary layers of the concave surface resulted in higher intermittency values, corresponding to higher skin friction and Stanton numbers; moreover the lowest gap between the measured and derived Stanton numbers were also obtained over the concave surface. Destabilising role of the concave wall caused Stanton numbers to increase up to 22%, whereas the convex wall, due to its stabilising character, produced lower Stanton numbers by 12% with respect to those of the flat plate.  相似文献

Experimental data for a two-dimensional (2-D) turbulent boundary layer (TBL) flow and a three-dimensional (3-D) pressure-driven TBL flow outside of a wing/body junction were obtained for an approach Reynolds number based on momentum thickness of Re θ =23,200. The wing shape had a 3:2 elliptical nose, NACA 0020 profiled tail, and was mounted on a flat wall. Some Reynolds number effects are examined using fine spatial resolution (Δy +=1.8) three-velocity-component laser-Doppler velocimeter measurements of mean velocities and Reynolds stresses at nine stations for Re θ =23,200 and previously reported data for a much thinner boundary layer at Re θ =5,940 for the same wing shape. In the 3-D boundary layers, while the stress profiles vary considerably along the flow due to deceleration, acceleration, and skewing, profiles of the parameter correlate well and over available Reynolds numbers. The measured static pressure variations on the flat wall are similar for the two Reynolds numbers, so the vorticity flux and the measured mean velocities scaled on wall variables agree closely near the wall. The stresses vary similarly for both cases, but with higher values in the outer region of the higher Re θ case. The outer layer turbulence in the thicker high Reynolds number case behaves similarly to a rapid distortion of the flow, since stream-wise vortical effects from the wall have not diffused completely through the boundary layer at all measurement stations. Laser Doppler velocity measurements are carried out in a turbulent boundary layer subjected to concentrated wall suction (through a porous strip). The measurements are taken over a longitudinal distance of 9× the incoming boundary layer thickness ahead of the suction strip. The mean and rms velocity profiles are affected substantially by suction. Two-point measurements show that the streamwise and wall-normal autocorrelations of the streamwise velocity are reduced by suction. It is found that suction alters the redistribution of the turbulent kinetic energy k between its components. Relative to the no-suction case, the longitudinal Reynolds stress contributes more to k than the other two normal Reynolds stresses; in the outer region, its contribution is reduced which suggests structural changes in the boundary layer. This is observed in the anisotropy of the Reynolds stresses, which depart from the non-disturbed boundary layer. With suction, the anisotropy level in the near-wall region appears to be stronger than that of the undisturbed layer. It is argued that the mean shear induced by suction on the flow is responsible for the alteration of the anisotropy. The variation of the anisotropy of the layer will make the development of a turbulence model quite difficult for the flow behind suction. In that respect, a turbulence model will need to reproduce well the effects of suction on the boundary layer, if the model is to capture the effect of suction on the anisotropy of the Reynolds stresses.  相似文献

The results of measurements of all three components of the mean velocity vector, the Reynolds normal and primary shear stresses and the mean static pressure in a turbulent free jet, issuing from a sharp-edged cruciform orifice, are presented in this paper. The measurements were made with an x-array hot-wire probe and a pitot-static tube in the near flow field of the jet. The Reynolds number, based upon the equivalent diameter of the orifice, was 1.70 × 105. In addition to the quantities measured directly, the mean streamwise centreline velocity decay, the jet half-velocity widths, the jet spreading rate, the mean streamwise vorticity, the mass entrainment rate, the integral momentum flux and the one-dimensional energy spectra have been derived from the measured data. The results show that the mean streamwise centreline velocity decay rate of the cruciform jet is higher than that of a round jet issuing from an orifice with the same exit area as that of the cruciform orifice. The mean streamwise velocity field changed shape continuously from a cruciform close to the orifice exit plane to circular at 12 and half equivalent diameters downstream. The mean streamwise vorticity field, up to about three equivalent diameters downstream of the orifice exit plane, consists of four pairs of counter-rotating cells, which are aligned with the four edges in the centre of the cruciform orifice.  相似文献

An experimental study is presented regarding the influence of sidewalls on the turbulent free jet flow issuing from a smoothly contracting rectangular nozzle of aspect ratio 15. “Sidewalls” are two parallel plates, flush with each of the slots’ short sides, practically establishing bounding walls extending the nozzle sidewalls in the downstream direction. Measurements of the streamwise and lateral velocity mean and turbulent characteristics have been accomplished, with an x-sensor hot wire anemometer, up to an axial distance of 35 nozzle widths, for jets with identical inlet conditions with and without sidewalls. Centreline measurements for both configurations have been collected for three Reynolds numbers, ReD = 10,000, 20,000 and 30,000. For ReD = 20,000 measurements in the transverse direction were collected at 13 different downstream locations in the range, x = 0–35 nozzle widths, and in the spanwise direction at three different downstream locations, x = 2, 6 and 25 nozzle widths.Results indicate that, the two jet configurations (with and without sidewalls) produce statistically different flow fields. Sidewalls do not lead to the production of a 2D flow field as undulations in the spanwise mean velocity distribution indicate. They do increase the two-dimensionality of the jet increasing the longevity of 2D spanwise rollers structures formed in the initial stages of entrainment, which are responsible for the convection of longitudinal momentum towards the outer field, establishing larger streamwise mean velocities at the jet edges. In the near field, up to 25 nozzle widths, lower outward lateral velocities in the presence of the sidewalls are held responsible for the decrease of turbulent terms including rms of velocity fluctuations and Reynolds stresses. Skewness factors increase monotonically across the shear layers from negative values to positive forming sharp peaks at the outer edges of the jet, illustrative of the presence of well defined 2D roller structures in the jet with sidewalls.  相似文献

实验研究了狭缝射流撞击圆柱表面后壁面射流区的平均流动和湍流特 性. 考察了雷诺数 Re (6000-20000), 喷口到受撞表面距 离 Y/W (5-13), 喷口宽度 W (6.25mm, 9.38mm), 受撞表 面曲率(半圆柱体直径 D = 150mm)对流动和湍流结构的影响. 通过分析 X 热线 在壁面射流区的测量结果发现,在近壁区域,表面曲率、 Re_{w} , Y/W 和 S/W 等 参数对 \sqrt {\overline{u^2}} / U_m 的影响比对 \sqrt {\overline{v^2}} / U_m 强,并且切 应力 \overline {uv} /U_m^2 对表面曲率变化最敏感. 当喷口与受撞击表面之间的距 离 Y/W 在一定范围内增加时, 沿圆柱表面流动的流向和横向的湍流强度增强. 用平板射流和圆柱体表面壁面射流的数据进行比较,从而得到表面曲率对壁面射流特 性的影响. 结果表明,曲率对壁面射流的影响较强, 并随着 S/W 的增大而增强. 随着雷诺数的增大,壁面曲率的影响也有强化的趋势.  相似文献

The near field mean flow and turbulence characteristics of a turbulent jet of air issuing from a sharp-edged isosceles triangular orifice into still air surroundings have been examined experimentally using hot-wire anemometry and a pitot-static tube. For comparison, some measurements were made in an equilateral triangular free jet and in a round free air jet, both of which also issued from sharp-edged orifices. The Reynolds number, based on the orifice equivalent diameter, was 1.84×105 in each jet. The three components of the mean velocity vector, the Reynolds normal and primary shear stresses, the one-dimensional energy spectra of the streamwise fluctuating velocity signals and the mean static pressure were measured. The mean streamwise vorticity, the half-velocity widths, the turbulence kinetic energy and the local shear in the mean streamwise velocity were obtained from the measured data. It was found that near field mixing in the equilateral triangular jet is faster than in the isosceles triangular and round jets. The mean streamwise vorticity field was found to be dominated by counter-rotating pairs of vortices, which influenced mixing and entrainment in the isosceles triangular jet. The one-dimensional energy spectra results indicated the presence of coherent structures in the near field of all three jets and that the equilateral triangular jet was more energetic than the isosceles triangular and round jets.  相似文献

The process of laminar to turbulent transition induced by a von Karman vortex street wake, was studied for the case of a flat plate boundary layer. The boundary layer developed under zero pressure gradient conditions. The vortex street was generated by a cylinder positioned in the free stream. An X-type hot-wire probe located in the boundary layer, measured the streamwise and normal to the wall velocity components. The measurements covered two areas; the region of transition onset and development and the region where the wake and the boundary layer merged producing a turbulent flow. The evolution of Reynolds stresses and rms-values of velocity fluctuations along the transition region are presented and discussed. From the profiles of the Reynolds stress and the mean velocity profile, a ‘negative' energy production region along the transition region, was identified. A quadrant splitting analysis was applied to the instantaneous Reynolds stress signals. The contributions of the elementary coherent structures to the total Reynolds stress were evaluated, for several x-positions of the near wall region. Distinct regions in the streamwise and normal to the wall directions were identified during the transition.  相似文献
