All the available data for the dispersion and linewidth of the single-particle spectra above the superconducting gap and the pseudogap in metallic cuprates for any doping have universal features. The linewidth is linear in energy below a scale omega(c) and constant above. The cusp in the linewidth at omega(c) mandates, due to causality, a waterfall, i.e., a vertical feature in the dispersion. These features are predicted by a recent microscopic theory. We find that all data can be quantitatively fitted by the theory with a coupling constant lambda(0) and an upper cutoff at omega(c), which vary by less than 50% among the different cuprates and for varying dopings. The microscopic theory also gives these values to within factors of O(2).  相似文献

Low-temperature heat transport was used to investigate the ground state of high-purity single crystals of the lightly doped cuprate YBa2Cu3O6.33. Samples were measured with doping concentrations on either side of the superconducting phase boundary. We report the observation of delocalized fermionic excitations at zero energy in the nonsuperconducting state, which shows that the ground state of underdoped cuprates is a thermal metal. Its low-energy spectrum appears to be similar to that of the d-wave superconductor, i.e., nodal. The insulating ground state observed in underdoped La2-xSrxCuO4 is attributed to the competing spin-density-wave order.  相似文献

Metals approaching the Mott insulator generate a new hierarchy in the electronic structure accompanied by an electron differentiation with emergence of strongly momentum dependent structure, beyond the Mott-Hubbard, Brinkman-Rice and Slater pictures of the Mott transition. To consider such nonlinear phenomenon, we develop an analytic nonperturbative theory based on operator projections combined with a self-consistent treatment of the low-energy excitations. This reproduces the Hubbard bands, Mott gap, spin fluctuations, mass divergence, diverging charge compressibility, and strongly renormalized flat and damped dispersion similar to angle-resolved photoemission data in high-Tc cuprates. Electronic spectra show a remarkable similarity to numerical results.  相似文献

We study the dynamical spin susceptibility of a correlated d-wave superconductor (dSC) in the presence of nonmagnetic disorder, using an unrestricted Hartree-Fock approach. This model provides a concrete realization of the notion that disorder slows down spin fluctuations, which eventually "freeze out." The evolution of disorder-induced spectral weight transfer agrees qualitatively with experimental observations on underdoped cuprate superconductors. For sufficiently large disorder concentrations, static spin density wave (SDW) order is created when droplets of magnetism nucleated by impurities overlap. We also study the disordered stripe state coexisting with a dSC and compare its magnetic fluctuation spectrum to that of the disorder-generated SDW phase.  相似文献

Experimentally observed features of the electrical and noise characteristics of bicrystal junctions of cuprate superconductors, such as linearity of the critical current density versus square root of the junction transparency and increase in the spectral density of shot noise for small bias voltages (below the superconducting gap), indicate that the superconducting current in cuprate bicrystal junctions is determined by the passage of quasi-particles through a potential barrier at the superconductor boundaries. This process involves bound states appearing as a result of multiple Andreev reflections in superconductors with dominant wavefunction components of the d x 2 ? y 2 symmetry type. At the same time, interpretation of the experimental current-phase and current-magnetic field curves requires that the character of faceting at the bicrystal junctions would be also taken into account.  相似文献

We show that the unusual doping dependence of the isotope effects on transition temperature and zero temperature in-plane penetration depth naturally follows from the doping driven 3D-2D crossover and the 2D quantum superconductor to insulator transition in the underdoped limit. Since lattice distortions are the primary consequence of isotope substitution, our analysis clearly reveals the strong involvement of lattice degrees of freedom in mediating superconductivity.  相似文献

The one-particle spectral function of a state formed by superconducting (SC) clusters is studied via Monte Carlo techniques. The clusters have similar SC amplitudes but randomly distributed phases. This state is stabilized by competition with the antiferromagnetism expected to be present in the cuprates and after quenched disorder is introduced. A Fermi surface composed of disconnected segments, i.e., Fermi arcs, is observed between the critical temperature T_(c) and the cluster formation temperature scale T*.  相似文献

Raman and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy experiments have demonstrated that in superconducting underdoped cuprates nodal and antinodal regions are characterized by two energy scales instead of the one expected in BCS theory. The nodal scale decreases with underdoping while the antinodal one increases. Contrary to the behavior expected for an increasing energy scale, the antinodal Raman intensity decreases with decreasing doping. Using the Yang-Rice-Zhang model, we show that these features are a consequence of the nonconventional nature of the superconducting state in which superconductivity and pseudogap correlations are both present and compete for the phase space.  相似文献

A new phenomenology is proposed for the superfluid density rhos of strongly underdoped cuprate superconductors based on recent data for ultraclean single crystals of YBa2Cu3O7-x. We show that the puzzling departure from Uemura scaling and the decline of the slope as the Tc=0 quantum critical point is approached can be understood in terms of the renormalization of quasiparticle effective charge by quantum fluctuations of the superconducting phase. We then employ a (3+1)-dimensional XY model to calculate, within particular approximations, the renormalization of rhos and its slope, explain the new phenomenology, and predict its eventual demise close to the quantum critical point.  相似文献

Recent scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) experimentally observed strong gap inhomogeneity in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O(8+delta) (BSCCO). We argue that disorder in the pair potential underlies the gap inhomogeneity, and investigate its role in the Fourier-transformed inelastic tunneling spectra as revealed in the STM. We find that the random pair potential induces unique q-space patterns in the local density of states (LDOS) of a d-wave superconductor. We consider the effects of electron coupling to various bosonic modes and find the pattern of LDOS modulation due to coupling to the B(1g) phonon mode to be consistent with the one observed in the inelastic electron tunnneling STM experiment in BSCCO. These results suggest strong electron-lattice coupling as an essential part of the superconducting state in high-Tc materials.  相似文献

With the technique of infrared ellipsometry we performed a detailed study of the temperature- and doping dependence of the c-axis response of a series of YBa2Cu3O7−δ single crystals. In particular, we explored the anomalous electronic properties at temperatures above the macroscopic superconducting transition temperature, T c, whose conflicting explanations range from a precursor superconducting state to electronic correlations that compete with superconductivity. We show that the c-axis spectra provide evidence that both kinds of correlations are present and that their contributions can be disentangled based on an analysis with a so-called multilayer-model. We find that the onset temperature, T *, and the energy scale, ΔPG, of the competing pseudogap increase rapidly towards the underdoped side whereas they vanish on the overdoped side. In addition, we provide evidence that in a strongly underdoped sample the precursor superconducting correlations develop below an onset temperature, T ons, that is considerably lower than T * but still much higher than T c.  相似文献

Tunneling and theoretical studies have suggested that Andreev bound states form at certain surfaces of unconventional superconductors. Through studies of the temperature and field dependence of the in-plane magnetic penetration depth lambda(ab) at low temperature, we have found strong evidence for the presence of these states in clean single crystal YBCO and BSCCO. Crystals cut to expose (110) surfaces show a strong upturn in lambda(ab) at around 7 K, when the field is oriented along the c axis. In YBCO this upturn is completely suppressed by a field of approximately 0.1 T.  相似文献

Quantum oscillations occur via Landau quantisation of the quasiparticle in a Fermi liquid at low temperature. In the light of currently popular notions their detection in the ortho-II-YBa2Cu3O6.45 and YBa2Cu4O8 crystals is inconsistent with this. We explain this in terms of multichannel Kondo model of the underdoped cuprate.  相似文献

We present broadband infrared ellipsometry measurements of the c-axis conductivity of underdoped RBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-delta} (R=Y, Nd, and La) single crystals. Our data show that separate energy scales are underlying the redistributions of spectral weight due to the normal state pseudogap and the superconducting gap. Furthermore, they provide evidence that these gaps do not share the same electronic states and do not merge on the overdoped side. Accordingly, our data are suggestive of a two gap scenario with a pseudogap that is likely extrinsic with respect to superconductivity.  相似文献

The observed O 1s X-ray photoemission spectra of the cuprate superconductors often exhibit a satellite at a higher binding energy to the main peak. The origin of this satellite is not fully understood. We have done model cluster calculations to investigate the origin of this satellite using the configuration interaction approach. The calculated spectra for the divalent and superconducting cuprates essentially exhibit a single peak. On distorting the cluster in-plane, the peak shifts to higher binding energies. This substantiates a deterioration of the surface leading to the observed satellite structure in the O 1s core-level photoemission spectra of the cuprate superconductors.  相似文献

It was proposed that the id(x(2)-y(2)) density-wave state (DDW) may be responsible for the pseudogap behavior in the underdoped cuprates. Here we show that the admixture of a small d(xy) component to the DDW state breaks the symmetry between the counterpropagating orbital currents of the DDW state and, thus, violates the macroscopic time-reversal symmetry. This symmetry breaking results in a nonzero polar Kerr effect, which has recently been observed in the pseudogap phase.  相似文献

We propose that an extension of the exciton concept to doped Mott insulators offers a fruitful insight into challenging issues of the copper oxide superconductors. In our extension, new fermionic excitations called cofermions emerge in conjunction to generalized excitons. The cofermions hybridize with conventional quasiparticles. Then a hybridization gap opens, and is identified as the pseudogap observed in the underdoped cuprates. The resultant Fermi-surface reconstruction naturally explains a number of unusual properties of the underdoped cuprates, such as the Fermi arc and/or pocket formation.  相似文献
