Employing an inhomogeneous solvable lattice model, we derive an exact expression for a boundary-to-boundary current on a lattice of finite width. This current is an example of a class of parafermionic observables recently introduced in an attempt to rigorously prove conformal invariance of the scaling limit of critical two-dimensional lattice models. It also corresponds to the spin current at the spin quantum Hall transition in a model introduced by Chalker and Coddington, and generalized by Gruzberg, Ludwig and Read. Our result is derived from a solution of the q-deformed Knizhnik–Zamolodchikov equation, and is expressed in terms of a symplectic Toda-lattice wave-function.  相似文献

The disorder driven quantum Hall to insulator transition is investigated for a two-dimensional lattice model. The Hall conductivity and the localization length are calculated numerically near the transition. For uncorrelated and weakly correlated disorder potentials the current carrying states are annihilated by the negative Chern states originating from the band center. In the presence of correlated disorder potentials with correlation length larger than approximately half the lattice constant the floating up of the critical states in energy without merging is observed. This behavior is similar to the levitation scenario proposed for the continuum model.  相似文献

A set of sufficient conditions is formulated for the integer quantum Hall effect to occur in a system of independent electrons in a random potential on the surface of a cylinder of finite length with perpendicular strong magnetic field. We construct Landau-Ginzburg effective field theories for fractional quantum Hall states - such as the Pfaffian state - which exhibit non-abelian statistics. These theories rely on a Meissner construction which increases the level of a non-abelian Chem-Simons theory while simultaneously projecting out the unwanted degrees of freedom of a concomitant enveloping abelian theory. We describe this construction in the context of a system of bosons at Landau level filling factor ν = l, where the non-abelian symmetry is a dynamically generated SU(2) continuous extension of the discrete particle-hole symmetry of the lowest Landau level. We show how the physics of quasiparticles and their non-abelian statistics arises in this Landau-Ginzburg theory. We describe its relation to edge theories - where a coset construction plays the role of the Meissner projection — and discuss extensions to other states.  相似文献

A reasonable physical intuition in the study of interacting quantum systems says that, independent of the initial state, the system will tend to equilibrate. In this work we introduce an experimentally accessible setting where relaxation to a steady state is exact, namely, for the Bose-Hubbard model quenched from a Mott quantum phase to the free strong superfluid regime. We rigorously prove that the evolving state locally relaxes to a steady state with maximum entropy constrained by second moments--thus maximizing the entanglement. Remarkably, for this to be true, no time average is necessary. Our argument includes a central limit theorem and exploits the finite speed of information transfer. We also show that for all periodic initial configurations (charge density waves) the system relaxes locally, and identify experimentally accessible signatures in optical lattices as well as implications for the foundations of statistical mechanics.  相似文献

We present a model of dissipative transport in the fractional quantum Hall regime. Our model takes account of tunneling through saddle points in the effective potential for excitations created by impurities. We predict the temperature range over which activated behavior is observed and explain why this range nearly always corresponds to around a factor two in temperature in both integer quantum Hall and fractional quantum Hall systems. We identify the ratio of the gap observed in the activated behavior and the temperature of the inflection point in the Arrhenius plot as an important diagnostic for determining the importance of tunneling in real samples.  相似文献

There has been a great deal of interest over the last two decades on the fractional quantum Hall effect, a novel quantum many-body liquid state of strongly correlated two-dimensional electronic systems in a strong perpendicular magnetic field. The most pronounced fractional quantum Hall states occur at odd denominator filling factors of the lowest Landau level and are described by the Laughlin wave function. It is well known that exact closed-form solutions for many-body wave functions, including the Laughlin wave function, are generally very rare and hard to obtain. In this work we present some exact results corresponding to small systems of electrons in the fractional quantum Hall regime at odd denominator filling factors. Use of Jacobi coordinates is the key tool that facilitates the exact calculation of various quantities. Expressions involving integrals over many variables are considerably simplified with the help of Jacobi coordinates allowing us to calculate exactly various quantities corresponding to systems with several electrons.  相似文献

<正>研究了缀饰格子中的量子自旋霍尔效应,模型中同时考虑了Rashba自旋轨道耦合和交换场的作用.缀饰格子具有简立方对称性,以零能平带和单狄拉克锥结构为主要特点.在缀饰格子中,不论是实现量子自旋霍尔效应还是量子反常霍尔效应,都需要一个不为零的内禀自旋轨道耦合作用来打开一个完全的体能隙,这与石墨烯等六角格子模型有着很大的不同.在交换场破坏了时间反演对称性的情况下,以自旋陈数为标志的量子自旋霍尔效应仍然能够存在,边缘态和极化率的相关结果也证明了这一结论.结果表明自旋陈数比z2拓扑数在表征量子自旋霍尔效应方面有着更广泛的适用范围,相应的结论为利用磁场控制量子自旋霍尔效应提出了一个理论模型和依据.  相似文献

We consider quantum Hall states at even-denominator filling fractions, especially nu=5/2, in the limit of small Zeeman energy. Assuming that a paired quantum Hall state forms, we study spin ordering and its interplay with pairing. We give numerical evidence that at nu=5/2 an incompressible ground state will exhibit spontaneous ferromagnetism. The Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theory for the spin degrees of freedom of paired Hall states is a perturbed CP2 model. We compute the coefficients in the GL theory by a BCS Stoner mean-field theory for coexisting order parameters, and show that even if repulsion is smaller than that required for a Stoner instability, ferromagnetic fluctuations can induce a partially or fully polarized superconducting state.  相似文献

A one dimensional infinite quantum spin lattice with a finite range interaction is studied. The Gibbs state in the infinite volume limit is shown to exist as a primary state of a UHF algebra. The expectation value of any local observables in the state as well as the mean free energy depend analytically on the potential, showing no phase transition. Using the Calogero model as an example, we show that the transport in interacting nondissipative electronic systems is essentially nonlinear and unstable. Nonlinear effects are due to the curvature of the electronic spectrum near the Fermi energy. As is typical for nonlinear systems, a propagating semiclassical wave packet develops a shock wave at a finite time. A wave packet collapses into oscillatory features which further evolve into regularly structured localized pulses carrying a fractionally quantized charge. The Calogero model can be used to describe fractional quantum Hall edge states. We discuss perspectives of observation of quantum shock waves and a direct measurement of the fractional charge in fractional quantum Hall edge states.  相似文献
