Summary Demands on the analyst of today are systematically studied and the consequences for university education in analytical chemistry are discussed. The system adopted at the Technical University of Budapest is shown in detail. This comprises 5 years of university education in all the essential fundamental subjects and after subsequent successful work in a laboratory for at least 2 years, a further evening education in specialized topics for 2 years. The advantages of this system are set out.
Ausbildungsziele in der Analytischen Chemie
Zusammenfassung Die Anforderungen an den heutigen Analytiker werden systematisch untersucht und die Folgerungen für die Hochschulausbildung diskutiert. Das an der Technischen Universität Budapest eingeführte Ausbildungssystem wird näher beschrieben. Es umfaßt neben einem 5jährigen Hochschulunterricht in den wesentlichen grundlegenden Fächern eine weitere 2jährige Spezialausbildung im Abendstudium, die frühestens nach 2jähriger erfolgreicher Laborarbeit begonnen werden kann. Die Vorteile dieses Systems werden aufgezeigt.

Summary The historical development of analytical education is traced from the turn of the century and an outlook into the future is presented, characterized by the disappearance of qualitative analysis and the emphasis laid upon instrumental methods and interdisciplinary courses.

Summary There are twenty chemistry departments at Yugoslavian universities and polytechnics with as many chairs of Analytical Chemistry. The individual courses show considerable differences with regard to their extent and content. The share of Analytical Chemistry is not uniform and taken as a whole not adequate. Summary Education in Analytical Chemistry in Poland is mainly carried out at Universities and Technical Universities according to a unified curriculum. Courses on Analytical Chemistry in the second year and on instrumental analysis in the third year are compulsory for all students of chemistry. Zusammenfassung 67 Referate aus den Jahren 1978 und 1979 von 23 Originalarbeiten in verschiedenen Zeitschriften aus dem Jahr 1978 wurden aus den Anal. Abstr., Chem. Abstr. und Fresenius Z. Anal. Chem. als Stichproben ausgewählt und auf Informationsgehalt sowie Aufbau untersucht. Ein generell angewendetes Aufbauprinzip konnte in keiner der drei Zeitschriften festgestellt werden. Die Angaben analytisch-relevanter Ergebnisse erwiesen sich als unzureichend. Die Zusammenhänge zwischen Zusammenfassung in einer Originalarbeit und Referat werden aufgezeigt und diskutiert.

Summary 67 Abstracts from 1978 and 1979 of 23 original papers in different journals from 1978 were selected as random samples from Anal. Abstr., Chem. Abstr. and Fresenius Z. Anal. Chem. for examination of information content and structure. A generally applied principle of structure for abstracts could not be recognized in any of these journals. The statements on analytically relevant results proved to be insufficient. The relationships between a summary in a original paper and the abstract were shown and discussed.

Summary The operation of a combined inorganic analytical course designed to be as flexible as possible, and to use the student's time most economically is described. It has been found that students can be interested by carrying out experiments on their own preparations, but that considerable caution is needed in the interpretation of the results because their preparations may vary considerably and in a manner which is not predictable. The advantages and disadvantages of such a course are discussed.

Zusammenfassung Ein kombinierter anorganisch-analytischer Lehrgang wird beschrieben, der möglichst flexibel ist und die aufgewendete Zeit nutzbringend einzusetzen erlaubt. Durch Versuche mit eigenen Präparaten wird das Interesse des Studenten geweckt; jedoch ist bei der Auswertung der Ergebnisse Vorsicht geboten, da die Präparate unterschiedliche Zusammensetzung aufweisen können. Vor- und Nachteile eines solchen Lehrganges werden diskutiert.

Summary An approach to the teaching of chemistry and of analytical chemistry is presented, suitable for use at the 2nd or 3rd year level. The present tendency to subdivide chemistry into many small units is countered by this suggestion to use a comprehensive course on analytical chemistry as a means of reuniting the subdivisions of modern chemistry.

Summary The 5 year study programme of the Technical Universities in Czechoslovakia comprises two courses in Analytical Chemistry. In the second year of study there are 3 h lectures of AC and 9 h of laboratory work per week. In the third year instrumental analysis is taught — 3 h lectures and 7 h practical work per week. Summary The teaching potential for analytical chemistry of some mathematical and statistical tools is discussed. It is concluded that some of the so-called chemometric techniques should be taught and that they permit to develop a philosophy of problem solving in analytical chemistry.
