This paper reports the heat and mass transfer characteristics in a viscous fluid which is squeezed between parallel plates. The governing partial differential equations for unsteady two-dimensional flow with heat and mass transfer of a viscous fluid are reduced to ordinary differential equations by similarity transformations. Homotopy analysis method (HAM) is employed to construct the series solution of the problem. Physical interpretation to various embedding parameters is assigned through graphs for temperature and concentration profiles and tables for skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number.  相似文献

This study purposes to examine the effects of latent heat transfer associated with the liquid films vaporization on the heat transfer in the natural convection flows driven by the simultaneous presence of combined buoyancy forces of thermal and mass diffusion. Results are especially presented for an air-water system under various conditions. The influence of channel length and system temperatures on the momentum, heat and mass transfer in the flow are investigated in great detail. The important role of transport of latent heat of vaporization under the situations of buoyancy-aiding and opposing flows is clearly demonstrated.  相似文献

Laminar, fully developed flow and heat transfer between parallel plates with longitudinal fins are analyzed. A modified eigenfunction expansion and point-match method gives highly accurate results. The resistance productf Re and Nusselt numbers for bothH1 andH2 problems are determined as a function of fin length and spacing. It is possible to decrease both size and weight of the heat exchanger by the addition of fins.  相似文献

Lateral heat transfer effect in conducting and mutually irradiating parallel plates has been investigated. The effect of reflection in the diffuse-specular regime has been included. The governing equation of this problem is a complicated integro-differential equation, and this has been solved using the accurate Gauss-Jacobi orthogonal collocation method. The effective thermal conductivity along the lateral direction increases with decreasing conduction-radiation number, increasing emittance of the plates and increasing spacing. Specular reflection effects are insignificant.  相似文献

The structured packed bed is considered a promising reactor owing to its low pressure drop and good heat transfer performance. In the heat transfer process of thermal storage in packed beds, natural convection plays an important role. To obtain the mixed convective heat transfer characteristics and mechanisms in packed beds, numerical simulations and coupling analyses were carried out in this study on the unsteady process of fluid flow and heat transfer. A three-dimensional model of the flow channel in the packed bed was established, and the Navier–Stokes equations and Laminar model were adopted for the computations. The effects of the driving force on fluid flow around a particle were studied in detail. The differences in velocity and density distributions under different flow directions due to effect of the aiding flow or opposing flow were intuitively demonstrated and quantitatively analyzed. It was found that the driving force strengthens the fluid flow near the particle surface when aiding flow occurs and inhibits the fluid flow when opposing flow occurs. The boundary layer structure was changed by the natural convection, which in turn influences the field synergy angle. For the aiding flow, the coordination between the velocity and density fields is higher than that for the opposing flow. By analysis the effects of physical parameters on mixed convective heat transfer, it is indicated that with an increase in the fluid-solid temperature difference or the particle diameter, or a decrease in the fluid temperature, the strengthening or inhibiting effect of natural convection on the heat transfer became more significant.  相似文献

A three-dimensional finite-element numerical model is presented for simulation of the steady-state performance characteristics of heat pipes. The mass, momentum and energy conservation equations are solved for the liquid and vapor flow in the entire heat pipe domain. The calculated outer wall temperature profiles are in good agreement with the experimental data. The estimations of the liquid and vapor pressure distributions and velocity profiles are also presented and discussed. It is shown that the vapor flow field remains nearly symmetrical about the heat pipe centerline, even under a non-uniform heat load. The analytical method used to predict the heat pipe capillary limit is found to be conservative.  相似文献

This study dealt with two-phase magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow and heat transfer in a parallel-plate channel. Both phases were incompressible and the flow was assumed to be steady, one-dimensional and fully developed. The present study was expected to be useful in the understanding of the effect of the presence of slag layers on the heat transfer characteristics of a coal-fired MHD generator. The problem was investigated, in which one of the two fluids was assumed to be electrically non-conducting. The transport properties of the two fluids were taken to be constant, and the plates were assumed to be maintained at constant and equal temperatures. In this case, the governing differential equations were linear, and an exact solution was obtained. Results were presented for various height and viscosity ratios for the two fluids and for two values of the electric field loading parameter. The governing equations were also solved numerically in order to verify the exact solution.  相似文献

An experimental study was carried out to investigate enhancement of heat transfer in compact heat exchanger by keeping pressure drop constant in a given range. Two different test matrices, cylindrical and triangular, used to find the optimum ribs were compared with a smooth channel. The investigation was performed with both laminar and turbulent forced flow for Reynolds numbers from 250 to 7000. The geometric parameters, in order to satisfied manufacturer demands, were fixed at p/e=6.67 and the wall temperature was held constant at 50°C. The technique of holographic interferometry was used to determine the temperature distribution in the test duct. Velocity distribution was measured using laser doppler anemometer techniques. For comparison the technique of global measurement was also used. The results revealed that cylindrical ribs are optimum heat transfer for conversion of pressure drop. An 8% experimental error was found in global measurement compared to holographic interferometry.  相似文献

A simplified model of heat transfer was developed to investigate the thermal behavior of heat exchangers and stack plates of thermoacoustic devices. The model took advantage of previous results describing the thermal behavior of the thermoacoustic core and heat transfer in oscillating flow to study the performance of heat exchangers attached to the core. The configuration considered is a flat tube (with a working fluid flowing in the tube) of the thickness of the stack plate attached to both ends of the stack plate. Geometrical and operational parameters as well as thermophysical properties of the heat exchangers, transport fluids in the heat exchangers, stack plate and the thermoacoustic working fluid were organized into dimensionless groups that allowed accounting for their impact on the performance of the heat exchangers. Two types of thermal boundary conditions were considered: constant temperature and constant heat flux along the heat exchanger tubes. Numerical simulations were carried out with the model introduced in the paper. The temperature distributions and heat fluxes near the edge of the stack plate were found to be nonlinear. The influence of system parameters on the thermal performance of the heat exchangers was analyzed. This article is dedicated to Prof. D. Uniform flow regime and constant effective thermal conductivity inside packed beds are commonly accepted in the evaluation of the fluid dynamics and heat transfer in such systems. However, several authors have confirmed the presence of an oscillatory velocity profile caused by the effective contribution of porosity profile in the fluid dynamic behavior of packed beds, which directly influences the heat transfer inside the beds. This paper describes the application of a pseudo-homogeneous mathematical ...  相似文献

Summary The problem of heat transfer in a two-dimensional porous channel has been discussed by Terrill [6] for small suction at the walls. In [6] the heat transfer problem of a discontinuous change in wall temperature was solved. In the present paper the solution of Terrill for small suction at the walls is revised and the whole problem is extended to the cases of large suction and large injection at the walls. It is found that, for all values of the Reynolds number R, the limiting Nusselt number Nu increases with increasing R.Nomenclature stream function - 2h channel width - x, y distances measured parallel and perpendicular to the channel walls respectively - U velocity of fluid at x=0 - V constant velocity of fluid at the wall - =y/h nondimensional distance perpendicular to the channel walls - f() function defined in equation (1) - coefficient of kinematic viscosity - R=Vh/ suction Reynolds number - density of fluid - C p specific heat at constant pressure - K thermal conductivity - T temperature - x=x 0 position where temperature of walls changes - T 0, T 1 temperature of walls for x<x 0, x>x 0 respectively - = (TT 1)/T 0T 1) nondimensional temperature - =x/h nondimensional distance along channel - R * = Uh/v channel Reynolds number - Pr = C p/K Prandtl number - n eigenvalues - B n() eigenfunctions - B n (0) , () eigenfunctions for R=0 - B 0 (i) , B 0 (ii) ... change in eigenfunctions when R0 and small - K n constants given by equation (13) - h heat transfer coefficient - Nu Nusselt number - m mean temperature - C n constants given by equation (18) - perturbation parameter - B 0i () perturbation approximations to B 0() - Q = B 0/ 0 derivative of eigenfunction with respect to eigenvalue - z nondimensional distance perpendicular to the channel walls - F(z) function defined by (54)  相似文献
