Submicron fibers of medium-molecular-weight poly(vinyl alcohol) (MMW-PVA), high-molecular-weight poly(vinyl alcohol) (HMW-PVA), and montmorillonite clay (MMT) in aqueous solutions were prepared by electrospinning technique. The effect of HMW-PVA and MMT on the morphology and mechanical properties of the MMW-PVA/HMW-PVA/MMT nanofibers were investigated for the first time. Scanning electron microscopy, viscometer, tensile strength testing machine, thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were utilized to characterize the PVA/MMT nanofibers morphology and properties. The MMW-PVA/HMW-PVA ratios and MMT concentration played important roles in nanofiber's properties. TEM data demonstrated that exfoliated MMT layers were well distributed within nanofibers. It was also found that the mechanical property and thermal stability were increased with HMW-PVA and MMT contents.  相似文献

The miscibility and the thermal behaviour of chitosan acetate (ChA) with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) have been investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Chitosan is blended with poly(vinyl alcohol) in acetic acid solution and this solution is cast to prepare the blend film. From thermal curves the thermal transitions: Tg, Tm and characteristic temperatures of decomposition: Tdi, Tmax have been determined and compared. The influence of the degree of PVA hydrolysis on the thermal properties of blend systems has been discussed.Based upon the observation on the DSC analysis, the melting point of PVA is decreased when the amount of ChA in the blend film is increased. Though some broadening of the transition curves could be noticed (DSC, TGA and DMA), the obtained results suggest that in the solid ChA/PVA blends the components are poorly miscible. Only PVA sample with relatively low DH = 88% and hence low degree of crystallinity shows partial miscibility with ChA of relatively low molecular weight.  相似文献

<正>The stability ofpoly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) nanofibrous mats in water media was improved by post-electrospinning treatments.Bifunctional glutaraldehyde(GA) in methanol was used as a crosslinking agent to stabilize PVA nanofiber, but fiber twinning was observed frequently, and the highly porous structure of PVA nanofibrous mats was destroyed when the crosslinked fiber was soaked in water. To overcome this shortcoming, chitosan(CS) was introduced into the PVA spinning solution to prepare PVA/CS composite nanofibers.Their treatment in GA/methanol solution could retain the fiber morphology of PVA/CS nanofibers and porous structure of PVA/CS nanofibrous mats even if they were soaked in aqueous solutions for 1 month.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) were applied to characterize the physicochemical structure and thermal properties of PVA nanofibers. It was found that the water resistance of PVA nanofibrous mats was enhanced because of the improvement of the degree of crosslinking and crystallinity in the electrospun PVA fibers after soaking in GA/methanol solution.  相似文献

A series of poly(vinyl alcohol)/chitosan (PVA/CTS) hydrogel thin films were prepared via ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, with acrylic acid (AA) monomer added as a crosslinker without the addition of any other photo-initiator. The swelling behaviors, intermolecular chemical bonds, molecular structures, thermal behaviors, degrees of crystallinity, morphologies of the surfaces and internal structure, and their relationship to the AA content were characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and its chemical crosslinks formed in hydrogel films via free-radical reactions were confirmed using FTIR and DSC analyses. The XRD patterns indicated that the degree of crystallinity of the hydrogel films decreased as the PAA content was increased. SEM micrographs showed that a uniform interconnected pore structure was formed through the entire hydrogel structure, and a gradient in the crosslinking density through the film thickness was observed to result from extended irradiation times. The swelling behaviors revealed that the formation of PAA and its crosslinking in the hydrogel thin films improved the pH stability and controlled the degree of swelling while retaining a high swelling rate. The successful formation of chemical crosslinking without any specific photo-initiator improves the natural characteristics of CTS and PVA and imparts the resulting PVA/CTS hydrogel thin films with properties that make them very promising in biomedical applications.  相似文献

Preparation of electrospun chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol) membranes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Electrospinning of chitosan from its solutions in 2% aqueous acetic acid was studied by adding poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as a “guest” polymer. Properties of the chitosan/PVA solutions including viscosity, conductivity, and surface tension were measured, and effects of the polymer concentration, chitosan/PVA mass ratio and processing parameters (applied voltage, flow rate, capillary-to-collector distance) on the electrospinnability of chitosan/PVA were investigated. Analyses of scanning electron micrographs and transmission electron micrographs suggested that the chitosan/PVA ultrafine fibers were often obtained along with beads, and chitosan was located in the elctrospun fibers as well as in the beads. Uniform chitosan/PVA fibers with an average diameter of 99 ± 21 nm could be prepared from a 7% chitosan/PVA solution in 40:60 mass ratio. Results of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction demonstrated that there were possible hydrogen bonds between chitosan and PVA molecules, which could weaken the strong interaction in chitosan itself and facilitate chitosan/PVA electrospinnability. The electrospun chitosan/PVA membranes showed higher water uptake and would have potential applications in wound dressings.  相似文献

Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) (polymer A) and poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) (polymer B) are known to form a thermodynamically miscible pair. In the present study the conclusion on miscibility of PVA/PVP solid blends, confirmed qualitatively (DMTA, FTIR) and quantitatively (DSC, χAB = − 0.69 at 503 K) is compared with the miscibility investigations of PVA/PVP solution blends by the technique of dilute solution viscometry. The miscibility of the ternary (polymer A/ polymer B/ solvent) system is estimated on the basis of experimental and ideal values of the viscosity parameters k, b and [η]. It is found that the conclusions on miscibility or nonmiscibility drawn from viscosity measurements in dilute solution blends depend: (i) on the applied extrapolation method used for the determination of the viscosity interaction parameters, (ii) on the assumed definition of the ideal values and (iii) on the thermodynamic quality of the solvent, which in the case of PVA depends on its degree of hydrolysis. Hence, viscometric investigations of dilute PVA/PVP solution blends have revealed that viscometry, widely used in the literature for estimation of polymer-polymer miscibility can not be recommended as a sole method to presume the miscibility of a polymer pair.  相似文献

Novel nanocomposite membranes (PVA–CNT(CS)) were prepared by incorporating chitosan-wrapped multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) into poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA). To further explore the intrinsic correlation between pervaporation performance and free volume characteristics, molecular dynamics simulation was first introduced to qualitatively analyze the contribution of carbon nanotube incorporation on improving free volume characteristics of the nanocomposite membranes. Secondly, the pervaporation performance of PVA–CNT(CS) nanocomposite membranes was investigated using permeation flux and separation factor as evaluating parameters. For benzene/cyclohexane (50/50, w/w) mixtures at 323 K, permeation flux and separation factor of pure PVA membrane are only 20.3 g/(m2 h) and 9.6, respectively, while the corresponding values of PVA–CNT(CS) (CNT content: 1%) nanocomposite membrane are 65.9 g/(m2 h) and 53.4. In order to explain the simultaneous increase of permeation flux and separation factor, as well as to check the calculation reliability of molecular dynamics simulation, positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) analysis was employed.  相似文献

Bicomponent nanofibers of N-carboxyethylchitosan (CECh) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) were obtained by electrospinning of mixed aqueous solutions. The electrospinning of CECh-containing nanofibers was enabled by the ability of PVA to form an elastically deformable entanglement network based on hydrogen bonds. The average diameters of the bicomponent fibers were in the range 100-420 nm. Water-resistant nanofibrous mats were obtained by thermal crosslinking at 100 °C for 10 h. Nanofibrous materials with 1D-, 1D-transversery or 3D fiber alignment were obtained depending on the type of the collector used.  相似文献

Submicron poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) fiber mats were prepared by electrospinning of aqueous PVA solutions in 6-8% concentration. Fiber morphology was observed under a scanning electron microscope and effects of instrument parameters including electric voltage, tip-target distance, flow rate and solution parameters such as concentration on the morphology of electrospun PVA fibers were evaluated. Results showed that, when PVA with higher degree of hydrolysis (DH) of 98% was used, tip-target distance exhibited no significant effect on the fiber morphology, however the morphological structure can be slightly changed by changing the solution flow rate. At high voltages above 10 kV, electrospun PVA fibers exhibited a broad diameter distribution. With increasing solution concentration, the morphology was changed from beaded fiber to uniform fiber and the average fiber diameter could be increased from 87 ± 14 nm to 246 ± 50 nm. It was also found that additions of sodium chloride and ethanol had significant effects on the fiber diameter and the morphology of electrospun PVA fibers because of the different solution conductivity, surface tension and viscosity. When the DH value of PVA was increased from 80% to 99%, the morphology electrospun PVA fibers was changed from ribbon-like fibers to uniform fibers and then to beaded fibers. The addition of aspirin and bovine serum albumin also resulted in the appearance of beads.  相似文献

Capture and detection of metastatic cancer cells are crucial for diagnosis and treatment of malignant neoplasm. Here, we report the use of folic acid (FA) modified electrospun poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/polyethyleneimine (PEI) nanofibers for cancer cell capture applications. Electrospun PVA/PEI nanofibers crosslinked by glutaraldehyde vapor were modified with FA via a poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) spacer, followed by acetylation of the fiber surface PEI amines. The formed FA-modified nanofibers were well characterized. The morphology of the electrospun PVA/PEI nanofibers is smooth and uniform despite the surface modification. In addition, the FA-modified nanofibers display good hemocompatibility as confirmed by hemolysis assay. Importantly, the developed FA-modified nanofibers are able to specifically capture cancer cells overexpressing FA receptors, which were validated by quantitative cell counting assay and qualitative confocal microscopy analysis. The developed FA-modified PVA/PEI nanofibers may be used for capturing circulating tumor cells for cancer diagnosis applications.  相似文献

Dry and hydrated poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) gels with 55% (a‐PVA) and 61% (s‐PVA) syndiotacticity and related PVA/lactyl chitosan (LC) blends have been investigated with 129Xe and cross‐polarization/magic‐angle‐spinning 13C NMR techniques. Although the dry gels exhibit two broad 129Xe resonances in the slow‐to‐intermediate exchange limit, both hydrated gels show three resonances. The corresponding dry blends exhibit two signals, the chemical shifts and line widths of which change with respect to those of pure PVA, whereas one (a‐PVA/LC) or two (s‐PVA/LC) signals appear in the spectra of the hydrated blends. A comparative analysis of the data demonstrates that LC rearranges the domains of the polymeric matrix in both the dry and hydrated blends according to the syndiotacticity of the PVA chains. Information on the molecular motions of the amorphous and swollen polymeric domains in the kilohertz range has been obtained from an analysis of the spin‐lattice relaxation times. These data indicate that the dynamics and arrangement of the PVA chains in the gels are strongly affected by their tacticity and the addition of the copolymer LC. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(vinyl alcohol)/cellulose nanocrystal barrier membranes   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
In this study, barrier membranes were prepared from poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH) with different amounts of cellulose nanocrystals (CNXLs) as filler. Poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) was used as a crosslinking agent to provide water resistance to PVOH. The membranes were heat treated at various temperatures to optimize the crosslinking density. Heat treatment at 170 °C for 45 min resulted in membranes with improved water resistance without polymer degradation. Infrared spectroscopy indicated ester bond formation with heat treatment. Mechanical tests showed that membranes with 10% CNXLs/10% PAA/80% PVOH were synergistic and had the highest tensile strength, tensile modulus and toughness of all the membranes studied. Polarized optical microscopy showed agglomeration of CNXLs at filler loadings greater than 10%. Differential thermogravimetric analysis (DTGA) showed a highly synergistic effect with 10% CNXL/10% PAA/80% PVOH and supported the tensile test results.Transport properties were studied, including water vapor transport rate and the transport of trichloroethylene, a representative industrial toxic material. Water vapor transmission indicated that all the membranes allowed moisture to pass. However, moisture transport was reduced by the presence of both CNXLs and PAA crosslinking agent. A standard time lag diffusion test utilizing permeation cups was used to study the chemical barrier properties. The membranes containing ≥10% CNXLs or PAA showed significantly reduced flux compared to the control. The CNXLs were then modified by surface carboxylation in order to better understand the mechanism of transport reduction. While barrier performance improvements were minimal, the chemical modification improved the dispersion of the modified CNXLs which led to improved performance. Of special note was an increase in the initial degradation temperatures of both modified and unmodified systems, with the modified system showing an initial degradation temperature >100 °C higher than the cellulose alone. This may reflect more extensive crosslinking in the modified composite.  相似文献

A study of the enzymatic degradation of some montmorillonite-containing nanocomposites of poly(vinyl alcohol) with starch was based on the determinations of mass loss and the reducing sugars. The degraded residues have been examined by FT-IR spectroscopy and optical microscopy. It has been established that the nanoparticles hinder degradation, while the susceptibility to enzymatic degradation varies in the order: PVA/starch/nanocore > PVA/starch/Bentonite > PVA/starch/Peruvian clay.  相似文献

Nanohybrid membranes based on the Keggin-type polyoxometalate (POM) H5PV2Mo10O40 and a poly(vinyl alcohol)/polyethyleneimine (PVA/PEI) blend were prepared as a chemical and biological protective material. The objective of the study was to develop and evaluate permeable membranes (PVA/PEI) impregnated with reactive nanoparticulates (POM) that can protect against simulants of chemical and biological warfare agents. The physical properties of the PVA/PEI–POM hybrids were examined using SEM, TEM, TGA, and UV–Vis spectroscopy, the results of which indicated that the POM was incorporated in the PVA/PEI matrix after impregnation. The redox properties against 2-chloroethyl-ethyl sulfide (CEES) were investigated based on significant color changes and UV absorption in the POM upon reduction by CEES. The antibacterial effects of the PVA/PEI–POM hybrids were assessed by the zone of inhibition, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and plate-counting methods. The results of this study showed that PVA/PEI–POM hybrids that act against simulants of chemical and biological weapons while retaining their ability to transmit moisture vapor could be obtained.  相似文献

Nanohybrid membranes based on the silver (Ag) and a poly(vinyl alcohol)/polyethyleneimine (PVA/PEI) blend were prepared by an in-situ reduction method, in which the silver nitrate, PVA and PEI acted as precursor, linker and polyamine reductant, respectively. The objective of the study was to develop and evaluate permeable membranes (PVA/PEI) impregnated with Ag nanoparticulates that can protect against simulants of chemical and biological warfare agents. The physical properties of the PVA/PEI-Ag hybrids were examined using SEM, TEM, TGA, and UV-vis spectroscopy, the results indicated that the Ag was incorporated in the PVA/PEI matrix after impregnation. The Ag content and surface morphology of the PVA/PEI-Ag hybrids depended on the initial concentration of AgNO3. The chemical barrier properties against 2-chloroethyl-ethyl sulfide (CEES) were investigated based on static-diffusion method with gas chromatograph (GC). The antibacterial effects of the PVA/PEI-Ag hybrids were assessed by the zone of inhibition, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), and plate-counting methods. The results of this study showed that PVA/PEI-Ag hybrids that act against simulants of chemical and biological weapons while retaining their ability to transmit moisture vapor could be obtained.  相似文献

New nanofibers containing poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)-iodine complex (PVP-iodine) were obtained by electrospinning in order to prepare materials suitable for wound dressings. Different approaches were used: a one-step method based on electrospinning of PVP-iodine or poly(ethylene oxide)/PVP-iodine solutions and a three-step method based on electrospinning of PVP or poly(ethylene oxide)/PVP mixed solutions followed by photo-mediated crosslinking of the obtained nanofibers and subsequent complexation with iodine. The average diameters of the fibers were in the range 150-470 nm depending on the composition and on the applied field strength (AFS) and increased with increasing the amount of PEO in the spinning solutions. Higher AFS resulted in greater fiber diameter and in size distribution broadening. Photo-mediated crosslinking in the presence of 4,4′-diazidostilbene-2,2′-disulfonic acid disodium salt successfully stabilized the electrospun PVP and PEO/PVP nanofibers against water and water vapor.  相似文献

Nanocomposites of poly(vinyl alcohol)/silica nanoparticles (PVA-SNs) were prepared by in-situ radical copolymerization of vinyl silica nanoparticles functionalized by vinyltriethoxysilane (VTEOS) and vinyl acetate with benzoyl peroxide (BPO, i.e., initiator), subsequently saponified via direct hydrolysis with NaOH solution. The resulting vinyl silica nanoparticles, PVA-SNs were characterized by means of fourier transformation spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the elemental analysis method. Effects of silica nanoparticles on viscosity and alcoholysis of PVA-SNs were studied by a ubbelohode capillary viscometer and the back titration method. The morphological structure of PVA-SN films was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and tensile test were used to determine the thermal and mechanical properties of PVA-SN films. The results indicated that the content of vinyl groups on the surface of the vinyl silica nanoparticles was up to 3.02 mmol/g and vinyl silica nanoparticles had been successfully copolymerized with vinyl acetate. Furthermore, compared to pure PVA, silica nanoparticles bonded with polymer matrix in a low concentration affected the viscosity and alcoholysis of the PVA-SNs materials. At the same time, it resulted in the improvement of the thermal and mechanical properties of the PVA-SN materials due to a strong interaction between silica nanoparticles and the polymer matrix via a covalent bond. It could be found that the optical clarity of the membrane was changed through UV-Vis absorption spectrum due to the introduction of silica nanoparticles.  相似文献

A kraft lignin derivative (KLD) obtained by reaction with p-aminobenzoic acid/phthalic anhydride was blended with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) by solution casting from DMSO. PVA and PVA/KLD films were exposed to ultraviolet radiation (24, 48, and 96 h) and analyzed by thermogravimetry (TG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). PVA films show a loss of thermal stability due to irradiation. PVA/KLD reveals greater thermal stability than PVA and an increase in thermal stability after irradiation. These results suggest that the incorporation of KLD into PVA provides a gain in thermal and photochemical stability. FTIR, 1H NMR, DSC, and TG results obtained for the blends suggest that intermolecular interactions between PVA and KLD chains are present. SEM micrographs revealed blend miscibility for a KLD blend content of up to 15 wt%, as observed at magnification of 1000 times.  相似文献
