We study the solutions of a parabolic system of heat equations coupled at the boundary through a nonlinear flux. We characterize in terms of the parameters involved when non-simultaneous quenching may appear. Moreover, if quenching is non-simultaneous we find the quenching rate, which surprisingly depends on the flux associated to the other component. Partially supported by project BFM2002-04572 (Spain). We study the second sound propagation in superfluid helium using the theoretical background developed in a recent paper [1], through which this phenomenon, both in crystals and in Helium II, can be inserted in a unique framework. In particular, considering an initial rectangular heat pulse and exploiting the selection rules of the physical shocks, a wide phenomenology of travelling shock waves, including the very special case of double shocks, is explained. This paper deals with heat conduction in a semi-infinite cylinder using the generalized Maxwell-Cattaneo equations. Spatial decay bounds for the temperature and heat flux under two different types of boundary conditions are derived. For fixed time it is shown that in each case the solutions decay in appropriate measure like the exponential of a quadratic function of the distance from the base of the cylinder, whereas in previous work they had been shown to decay only at least as fast as the exponential of a linear function.Received: January 13, 2004  相似文献

We consider the Cahn–Hilliard–Gurtin equation which corresponds, in the isotropic case, to the viscous Cahn–Hilliard equation. The convergence of its solutions toward some steady state is investigated by means of a proper generalization of the Lojasiewicz–Simon Theorem to nongradient-like flows. Furthermore, when the anisotropic coefficients are small, we prove that these steady states can be approximated by the corresponding stationary solutions of the viscous Cahn–Hilliard equation provided that the latter are local minimizers of the Ginzburg–Landau free energy. We rigorously derive an asymptotic expansion of the steady-state voltage potentials in the presence of a conductivity inclusion of small volume that is close to a planar surface. We are concerned with global entropy solutions to the relativistic Euler equations for a class of large initial data which involve the interaction of shock waves and rarefaction waves. We first carefully analyze the global behavior of the shock curves, the rarefaction wave curves, and their corresponding inverse curves in the phase plane. We study a real Ginzburg-Landau equation, in a bounded domain of with a variable, generally non-smooth diffusion coefficient having a finite number of zeroes. By using the compactness of the embeddings of the weighted Sobolev spaces involved in the functional formulation of the problem, and the associated energy equation, we show the existence of a global attractor. The extension of the main result in the case of an unbounded domain is also discussed, where in addition, the diffusion coefficient has to be unbounded. Barotropic flows of one-dimensional compressible Bingham fluids are considered. Long-time behavior of the corresponding initial-boundary problem is investigated. The uniform upper and lower bounds for the density and a decay of the kinetic energy are established. We admit a class of mass forces not considered for similar problems to Newtonian fluids. Under additional assumptions on the mass force, we achieve strong estimates for the solution (uniformly in time) and decays of the velocity and its derivatives. The Ostrovsky equation governs the propagation of long nonlinear surface waves in the presence of rotation. It is related to the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) and the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili models. KdV can be obtained from the equation in question when the rotation parameter γ equals zero. A fundamental solution of the Cauchy problem for the linear Ostrovsky equation is presented in the form of an oscillatory Fourier integral. Another integral representation involving Airy and Bessel functions is derived for it. It is shown that its asymptotic expansion as γ → 0 contains the KdV fundamental solution as the zero term. The Airy transform is used to establish some of its properties. Higher-order asymptotics for γ → 0 on a bounded time interval are obtained for both the fundamental solution and the solution of the linear Cauchy problem for the Ostrovsky equation. We prove uniqueness and continuous dependence on initial data of weak solutions of the equations of compressible magnetohydrodynamics. The solutions we consider may exhibit discontinuities in density and in the gradients of velocity, temperature, and magnetic field. Continuous dependence is deduced by duality from existence and regularity of solutions of the adjoint of the first variation system.
