Optically active homopolymers and copolymers, bearing chiral units at the side chain and end chain, were prepared via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) techniques. The well‐defined optically active polymers were obtained via the ATRP of pregnenolone methacrylate (PR‐MA), β‐cholestanol acrylate (CH‐A), and 20‐(hydroxymethyl)‐pregna‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one acrylate (HPD‐A) with ethyl 2‐bromopropionate as the initiator and CuBr/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as the catalytic system. The experimental results showed that the polymerizations of PR‐MA, CH‐A, and HPD‐A proceeded in a living fashion, providing pendent chiral group polymers with low molecular weight distributions and predetermined molecular weights that increased linearly with the monomer conversion. Furthermore, the copolymers poly(pregnenolone methacrylate)‐b‐poly[(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] and poly(pregnenolone methacrylate‐co‐methyl methacrylate) were synthesized and characterized with 1H NMR, transmission electron microscopy, and polarimetric analysis. In addition, when optically active initiators estrone 2‐bromopropionate and 20‐(hydroxymethyl)‐pregna‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one 2‐bromopropionate were used for ATRPs of methyl methacrylate and styrene, terminal optically active poly(methyl methacrylate) and polystyrene were obtained. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A well‐defined double hydrophilic graft copolymer, with polyacrylate as backbone, hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) and poly(methacrylic acid) as side chains, was synthesized via successive atom transfer radical polymerization followed by the selective hydrolysis of poly(methoxymethyl methacrylate) side chains. The grafting‐through strategy was first used to prepare poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate] comb copolymer. The obtained comb copolymer was transformed into macroinitiator by reacting with lithium diisopropylamine and 2‐bromopropionyl chloride. Afterwards, grafting‐from route was employed for the synthesis of poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate]‐g‐poly(methoxymethyl methacrylate) amphiphilic graft copolymer. The molecular weight distribution of this amphiphilic graft copolymer was narrow. Poly(methoxymethyl methacrylate) side chains were connected to polyacrylate backbone through stable C? C bonds instead of ester connections. The final product, poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate]‐g‐poly(methacrylate acid), was obtained by selective hydrolysis of poly(methoxymethyl methacrylate) side chains under mild conditions without affecting the polyacrylate backbone. This double hydrophilic graft copolymer was found be stimuli‐responsive to pH and ionic strength. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 4056–4069, 2008  相似文献

A class of [5,5′]‐diphenyl‐[5,5′]‐dithiophene (PTTP)‐modified methacrylates has been synthesized and free radically polymerized to form graft polymethacrylates with the conducting PTTP segments as pendant side chains. Both the terminal alkyl side chain and spacer between the PTTP segments and polymer backbone could be varied to study fundamental structure–property relationships for this class of materials. Specifically, a group of three different PTTP graft polymethacrylates has been successfully synthesized with the alkyl side chain varying from hexyl to dodecyl. For the dodecyl‐terminated poly(4‐(5′‐(4‐dodecylphenyl)‐[2,2′‐bithiophen]‐5‐yl)phenethyl methacrylate), p(DPTTPEM), a counterpart, poly(4‐(5′‐(4‐dodecylphenyl)‐[2,2′‐bithiophen]‐5‐yl)phenbutyl methacrylate), p(DPTTPBM), where the ethyl spacer was replaced by a butyl group, was synthesized. The experimental results indicated that both the alkyl side chain and spacer significantly affected the reactivity of the PTTP‐modified methacrylates during free radical polymerization as well as the physical properties of the resultant graft polymers including solubility, morphology, and electrochemical and electrical properties. Typical field‐effect mobilities on the order of 10?5 cm2 V?1 s?1 were observed for all the PTTP monomers in air, which was attributed to their crystalline phase as revealed by differential scanning calorimetry and X‐ray diffraction studies. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined double hydrophilic graft copolymers containing poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate] (PPEGMEA) backbone and poly[poly(ethylene glycol) ethyl ether methacrylate] (PPEGEEMA) side chains were synthesized by the combination of single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The backbone was first prepared by SET‐LRP of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate macromonomer using CuBr/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system. The obtained comb copolymer was treated with lithium diisopropylamide and 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide to give PPEGMEA‐Br macroinitiator. Finally, PPEGMEA‐g‐PPEGEEMA graft copolymers were synthesized by ATRP of poly(ethylene glycol) ethyl ether methacrylate macromonomer using PPEGMEA‐Br macroinitiator via the grafting‐from route. The molecular weights of both the backbone and the side chains were controllable and the molecular weight distributions kept narrow (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.20). This kind of double hydrophilic copolymer was found to be stimuli‐responsive to both temperature and ion (0.3 M Cl? and SO). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The poly(methyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(2‐[[[[2‐(perfluorohexyl)]‐sulfonyl]‐amino]ehthyl] methacrylate) (PMMA‐b‐PC6SMA) copolymers were successfully synthesized for the first time using activator regenerated by electron transfer atom transfer radical polymerization (ARGET ATRP) method. Under optimized reaction conditions, the degree of polymerization (DP) of resulting copolymers increased approximately linearly with monomer conversion. Structures of a well‐defined block copolymer were determined by GPC, FT–IR, and 1H‐NMR spectra. Results from AFM and contact angle measurements of polymer films revealed the presence of block segments derived from PC6SMA, as indicated by the obvious increase in hydrophobicity and oleophobicity. The relationship between surface composition and surface wetting ability was confirmed by XPS and AFM spectra. Compared with the random copolymer PMMA‐co‐PC6SMA, C6SMA dosages in the PMMA‐b‐PC6SMA copolymers were greatly decreased, which retained its hydrophobic and oleophobic properties. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis by reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of three phosphonated terpolymers with tailored architecture has been studied. A phosphonated methacrylate (MAUPHOS) was copolymerized with vinylidene chloride (VC2) and methyl acrylate (MA) to prepare a gradient terpolymer poly(VC2co‐MA‐co‐MAUPHOS). Besides, hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) was used as a functional monomer in RAFT polymerization to prepare a statistical poly(VC2co‐MA‐co‐HEA) terpolymer and a diblock poly(VC2co‐MA)‐b‐poly(HEA) terpolymer. The HEA‐containing polymers were then modified with a phosphonated epoxide to introduce the phosphonated group. The control of the polymerization was proven by kinetic studies (evolution of molecular weight vs. conversion) and by a successful block copolymerization. The architecture of the terpolymers was determined by the reactivity ratios of the monomers: terpolymerization of VC2, MA, and HEA leading to an ideal statistical terpolymer (no composition drift) whereas terpolymerization of VC2, MA, and the phosphonated methacrylate led to a gradient terpolymer. These terpolymers were characterized by size exclusion chromatography, 31P NMR and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined double hydrophilic graft copolymers, consisting of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(ethyl acrylate) (PNIPAM‐b‐PEA) backbone and poly(2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDEA) side chains, were synthesized by successive atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The backbone was firstly prepared by sequential ATRP of N‐isopropylacrylamide and 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate at 25 °C using CuCl/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system. The obtained diblock copolymer was transformed into macroinitiator by reacting with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride. Next, grafting‐from strategy was employed for the synthesis of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐[poly(ethyl acrylate)‐g‐poly(2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate)] (PNIPAM‐b‐(PEA‐g‐PDEA)) double hydrophilic graft copolymer. ATRP of 2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate was initiated by the macroinitiator at 40 °C using CuCl/hexamethyldiethylenetriamine as catalytic system. The molecular weight distributions of double hydrophilic graft copolymers kept narrow. Thermo‐ and pH‐responsive micellization behaviors were investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy, 1H NMR, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy. Unimolecular micelles with PNIPAM‐core formed in acidic environment (pH = 2) with elevated temperature (≥32 °C); whereas, the aggregates turned into vesicles in basic surroundings (pH ≥ 7.2) at room temperature. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined double hydrophilic double‐grafted copolymers, consisting of polyacrylate backbone, hydrophilic poly(2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) and poly(ethylene glycol) side chains, were synthesized by successive atom transfer radical polymerization. The backbone, poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate] (PPEGMEA) comb copolymer, was firstly prepared by ATRP of PEGMEA macromonomer via the grafting‐through route followed by reacting with lithium diisopropylamide and 2‐bromopropionyl chloride to give PPEGMEA‐Br macroinitiator of ATRP. Finally, poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate]‐g‐poly(2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) graft copolymers were synthesized by ATRP of 2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate using PPEGMEA‐Br macroinitiator via the grafting‐from route. Poly(2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) side chains were connected to polyacrylate backbone through stable C? C bonds instead of ester connections, which is tolerant of both acidic and basic environment. The molecular weights of both backbone and side chains were controllable and the molecular weight distributions kept relatively narrow (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.39). The results of fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic laser light scattering and transmission electron microscopy showed this double hydrophilic copolymer was stimuli‐responsive to both pH and salinity. It can aggregate to form reversible micelles in basic surroundings which can be conveniently dissociated with the addition of salt at room temperature. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The volume phase transition of nonionic hydrogels was controlled with a very small amount of variation (pinpoint variation) of the side chains far from the main chain. The copolymer hydrogels poly(methacryloyl‐alanine methyl ester‐co‐methacryloyl‐alanine ethyl ester) [poly(MA‐Ala‐OMe‐co‐MA‐Ala‐OEt)] and poly(methacryloyl‐alanine alkylamide‐co‐methacryloyl‐alanine ethyl ester) [poly(MA‐Ala‐NR2co‐MA‐Ala‐OEt)] were studied to investigate how pinpoint variation controls the volume phase transition. All copolymer hydrogels showed a volume phase transition from a swollen phase to a collapsed phase at a definite MA‐Ala‐OEt content at a specific temperature. The MA‐Ala‐OEt content at the midpoint of the transition linearly decreased with elevation of the temperature, and the decrease was larger for poly(MA‐Ala‐OMe‐co‐MA‐Ala‐OEt) than for poly(MA‐Ala‐NR2co‐MA‐Ala‐OEt). These results suggest that the association of the side chains controlling the swelling character of the hydrogels depends on the interacting ester–ester or ester–amide groups, and the former is larger than the latter. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Well‐defined amphiphilic graft copolymers containing hydrophilic poly((meth)acrylic acid) (PMAA) or poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) side chains with gradient and statistical distributions were synthesized. For this purpose, the hydroxy‐functionalized copolymers with various gradient degrees, in which 2‐(6‐hydroxyhexanoyloxy)ethyl (meth)acrylate units (caprolactone 2‐[methacryloyloxy]ethyl ester, CLMA) formed strong gradient with tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA), slight gradient copolymers with tert‐butyl (meth)acrylate (tBMA), and statistical copolymers with methyl (meth)acrylate (MMA) were modified to bromoester multifunctional macroinitiators, P(tBMA‐grad‐BrCLMA), P(BrCLMA‐grad‐tBA), and P(BrCLMA‐co‐MMA). In the next step, they were applied in controlled radical polymerization of tBMA and tBA yielding graft copolymers with various lengths of side chains as well as graft densities. Further, the tert‐butyl groups in copolymers were successfully removed via acidolysis in the presence of trifluoracetic acid, which caused transformation of the hydrophobic graft copolymers into amphiphilic ones with ability of self‐assembly for the future biomedical applications. Heteroarm H‐shaped terpolymers, (polystyrene)(poly(methyl methacrylate))‐ poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)‐(polystyrene)(poly(methyl methacrylate)), (PS)(PMMA)‐PtBA‐(PMMA)(PS), and, (PS)(PMMA)‐poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG)‐(PMMA)(PS), through click reaction strategy between PS‐PMMA copolymer (as side chains) with an alkyne functional group at the junction point and diazide end‐functionalized PtBA or PEG (as a main chain). PS‐PMMA with alkyne functional group was prepared by sequential living radical polymerizations such as the nitroxide mediated (NMP) and the metal mediated‐living radical polymerization (ATRP) routes. The obtained H‐shaped polymers were characterized by using 1H‐NMR, GPC, DSC, and AFM measurements. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 1055–1065, 2007  相似文献

Hydroxy‐functionalized isotactic poly(1‐butene) was synthesized using transition metal‐catalyzed regioselective C? H borylation at the side chain of the commercial polyolefin and subsequent oxidation of the boronic ester functionality. Functionalization up to ~ 19 mol % of the termini of the ethyl side chain occurred without significant side reactions that could alter the polymer chain length. Esterification of the hydroxy group in the polymer with 2‐bromoisobutyl bromide generated a side chain‐functionalized polyolefin macroinitiator. Atom transfer radical polymerization of tert‐butyl acrylate from the macroinitiator produced a high molecular‐weight graft copolymer of the polyolefin, isotactic poly(1‐butene)‐graft‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) (PB‐g‐PtBA). Finally, the hydrolysis of the tert‐butoxy ester group of PB‐g‐PtBA created an amphiphilic polyolefin, isotactic poly(1‐butene)‐graft‐poly(acrylic acid), which contained a short carboxylic acid‐functionalized polymer block at the side chain. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Graft copolymers with the main polyimide chain and side chains of poly(n-butyl acrylate), poly(tert-butyl acrylate), poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(tert-butyl methacrylate), polystyrene, and polystyrene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization on the multicenter polyimide macroinitiators in the presence of the halide complexes of univalent copper with nitrogen-containing ligands. Polymerization of metha-crylates is most efficiently developed on the polyimide macroinitiators. The obtained graft copolymers initiate the secondary polymerization (“post-polymerization”) of methyl methacrylate. The conditions of detachment of side chains of graft polymethacrylates that do not involve the ester groups of their monomeric units were found. The molecular mass characteristics of the graft copolymers and isolated polymers, being the detached side chains of the copolymers, were determined. The detached side chains of different chemical structures have low values of the polydispersity index. The procedure developed was used for the preparation of new graft polyimides with side chains of poly-4-nitro-4′-[N-methylacryloyloxyethyl-N′-ethyl]amino-azobenzene that cause the nonlinear optical properties and with the side chains of poly(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) that cause the thermosensitive properties of the copolymers.  相似文献

This study investigates the degradation behavior of poly(n‐butyl methacrylate) ( p(nBMA) ), poly(tert‐butyl methacrylate) ( p(tBMA) ), and poly(hexafluoro butyl methacrylate) ( p(HFBMA) ) on a molecular level under extreme environmental conditions. The polymers chosen are readily applicable in the formulation of surface coatings and were degraded under conditions which replicated the harsh Australian climate, in which surface coatings may reach temperatures of up to 95 °C and are exposed to broad‐spectrum UV radiation of up to 1 kW m?2. The degradation profiles were mapped with high‐resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI‐MS) with a LCQ quadrupole ion trap mass analyzer, with the peak assignments confirmed to within 3 ppm using ESI‐MS with a LTQ‐Orbitrap mass detector. It was found that in all the butyl ester polymers analyzed herein—regardless of their tertiary side‐chain structure—the loss of the butyl ester group and subsequent formation of acid side groups are a component of the overall degradation pathway of poly(butyl methacrylate)s under these harsh conditions. However, it is also demonstrated that the magnitude of this pathway is intimately linked to the side‐chain structure with the propensity for degradation decreasing in the order p(tBMA) > p(nBMA) > p(HFBMA) . The degradation mechanisms identified in this study, in combination with the previous end‐group degradation studies of poly(methyl methacrylate) and poly(n‐butyl acrylate), have allowed a much deeper understanding of the molecular degradation behavior of poly(acrylate)s and poly(methacrylate)s in an extreme natural environment. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Graft copolymers consisting of amorphous main chain, poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), or poly(methyl acrylate) (PMAc), and crystalline side chains, poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), have been prepared by copolymerization of PEG macromonomers with methyl methacrylate or methyl acrylate (MMAx or MACx, respectively). Because of the compatibility of PMMA/PEG and PMAc/PEG, from small‐angle X‐ray scattering results, the main and side chains in graft copolymers were suggested to be homogeneous in the molten state. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) cooling scans revealed that PEG side chains for graft copolymers with large PEG fractions were crystallized when the sample was cooled, with a cooling rate of 10 °C/min. The spherulite pattern observed by a polarized optical microscope suggested the growth of PEG crystalline lamellae. Crystallization of PEG in MMAx was more restrained than in MACx. From these results, we have concluded that the crystallization behavior of the grafted side chains is strongly influenced by the glass transition of a homogeneously molten sample as well as dilution of the crystallizable chains. Domain spacings for isothermally crystallized graft copolymers were described by interdigitating chain packing in crystalline–amorphous lamellar structure. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined double‐hydrophilic graft copolymers, consisting of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(ethyl acrylate) (PNIPAM‐b‐PEA) backbone and poly(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate) (PDMAEA) side chains, were synthesized by the combination of single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) and atom‐transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). PNIPAM‐b‐PEA backbone was first prepared by sequential SET‐LRP of N‐isopropylacrylamide and 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate at 25 °C using CuCl/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system followed by the transformation into the macroinitiator by treating the pendant hydroxyls with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride. The final graft copolymers with narrow molecular weight distributions were synthesized by ATRP of 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate initiated by the macroinitiator at 40 °C using CuCl/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system via the grafting‐from strategy. These copolymers were employed to prepare stable colloidal gold nanoparticles with controlled size in aqueous solution without any external reducing agent. The morphology and size of the nanoparticles were affected by the length of PDMAEA side chains, pH value, and the feed ratio of the graft copolymer to HAuCl4. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined amphiphilic graft copolymers bearing hydrophobic poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) backbone and hydrophilic poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate)] (PPEGMEMA) side chains were synthesized by sequential reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) without any polymeric functional group transformation. A new Br‐containing acrylate monomer, tert‐butyl 2‐((2‐bromoisobutanoyloxy)methyl)acrylate (tBBIBMA), was first prepared, which can be homopolymerized by RAFT to give a well‐defined PtBBIBMA homopolymer with a narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 1.15). This homopolymer with pendant Br initiation group in every repeating unit initiated SET‐LRP of PEGMEMA at 45 °C using CuBr/dHbpy as catalytic system to afford well‐defined PtBBIBMA‐g‐PPEGMEMA graft copolymers via the grafting‐from strategy. The self‐assembly behavior of the obtained graft copolymers in aqueous media was investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy and TEM. These copolymers were found to be stimuli‐responsive to both temperature and ions. Finally, poly(acrylic acid)‐g‐PPEGMEMA double hydrophilic graft copolymers were obtained by selective acidic hydrolysis of hydrophobic PtBA backbone while PPEGMEMA side chains kept inert. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(stearyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid) (SMA) and its sodium ionomer (SMI) were synthesized and the permeability of the model drug through the SMA and SMI films was measured. The side‐chain crystalline structure for the dried and hydrated SMA, SMI was investigated using DSC and WAXS. The side‐chain crystalline structure of the hydrated SMI was much more stable than that of the hydrated SMA at room temperature. The temperature‐sensitive phase transition of the side‐chain crystalline structure for the hydrated SMI was also studied by the temperature variable WAXS experiment. The temperature‐sensitive permeation of the hydrophilic model drug through SMI was observed around 20 °C, whereas the drug permeation through SMA was almost constant within the temperature range studied. The change of drug permeability through the SMA and SMI films with temperature seems to be associated with the side‐chain crystalline structure of the polymer. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of well‐defined amphiphilic graft copolymers, containing hydrophilic poly(acrylic acid) backbone and hydrophobic poly(butyl acrylate) side chains, were synthesized by sequential reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) without any postpolymerization functionality modification followed by selective acidic hydrolysis of poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) backbone. tert‐Butyl 2‐((2‐bromopropanoyloxy)methyl)‐acrylate was first homopolymerized or copolymerized with tert‐butyl acrylate by RAFT in a controlled way to give ATRP‐initiation‐group‐containing homopolymers and copolymers with narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn < 1.20) and their reactivity ratios were determined by Fineman‐Ross and Kelen‐Tudos methods, respectively. The density of ATRP initiation group can be regulated by the feed ratio of the comonomers. Next, ATRP of butyl acrylate was directly initiated by these macroinitiators to synthesize well‐defined poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)‐g‐poly(butyl acrylate) graft copolymers with controlled grafting densities via the grafting‐from strategy. PtBA‐based backbone was selectively hydrolyzed in acidic environment without affecting PBA side chains to provide poly(acrylic acid)‐g‐poly(butyl acrylate) amphiphilic graft copolymers. Fluorescence probe technique was used to determine the critical micelle concentrations in aqueous media and micellar morphologies are found to be spheres visualized by TEM. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined amphiphilic graft copolymers containing hydrophilic poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) backbone and hydrophobic poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) side chains were synthesized via sequential reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization followed by selective hydrolysis of poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) backbone. A new Br‐containing acrylate monomer, tert‐butyl 2‐((2‐bromopropanoyloxy)methyl) acrylate, was first prepared, which can be polymerized via RAFT in a controlled way to obtain a well‐defined homopolymer with narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 1.08).
