The effects of stereoregularity, temperature, and solvent on the specific recognition of syndiotactic (st)‐poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) in macromolecularly porous isotactic (it)‐poly(methyl methacrylate) films were investigated to give important insights into the regularity and stability of nanospaces in the it‐PMMA films as well as template polymerization. The porous it‐PMMA films were fabricated on quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) substrates via the layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of it‐PMMA/st‐PMAA, plus the st‐PMAA extraction from the assembly. QCM analysis and infrared spectroscopy revealed the first case of stereocomplex formation using st‐PMAA with lower stereoregularity (rr = 73%) in the LbL films, while st‐PMAA obtained with conventional free radical polymerization (rr = 62%) was barely incorporated into the porous it‐PMMA films. The maximum st‐PMAA incorporation increased from 25 to 40 °C, but there were almost no difference between 40 and 55 °C, indicating that the it‐PMMA crystallization would also be accelerated with increasing temperature. The studies on st‐PMAA incorporation with various complexing solvents revealed that the host it‐PMMA in the porous films could only form the original stereocomplex with 2/1 unit‐molar stoichiometry (st‐PMAA/it‐PMMA) in acetonitrile/water or ethanol/water. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The radical polymerization of methacrylic acid (MAA) at 0, 20, 40, and 70 °C was achieved in porous isotactic (it‐) poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) films on quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) substrates, which were prepared by layer‐by‐layer assembled stereocomplex films of it‐PMMA and syndiotactic (st‐) poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA), followed by the subsequent extraction of st‐PMAA. The MAA polymerization yields increased from 35 to 75%, as the polymerization temperature increased from 0 to 70 °C. Furthermore, infrared spectroscopy revealed that a higher polymerization temperature is necessary to form it‐PMMA/st‐PMAA stereocomplexes via stereoregular polymerization manner that resemble native it‐PMMA/st‐PMAA stereocomplexes. X‐ray diffraction pattern of porous it‐PMMA were also investigated for reaction fields. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2014 , 52, 3032–3036  相似文献

Methacrylic acid (MAA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), methacrylamide, and oligomers of MAA and MMA were selected as a model of active radical species in living template polymerization using stereocomplex formation. The adsorption behaviors of the aforementioned model compounds were examined toward porous isotactic‐(it‐) poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) ultrathin films on a quartz crystal microbalance, which was prepared by the extracting of syndiotactic‐(st‐) poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) from it‐PMMA/st‐PMAA stereocomplexes. The apparent predominant adsorption of oligomers to monomers was observed in both PMAA and PMMA oligomers, suggesting that the mechanism of template polymerization follows the pick up mechanism. Although vinyl monomers were not incorporated into the porous it‐PMMA ultrathin film, both PMMA and PMAA oligomers were adsorbed at the initial stages. However, adsorbed amounts were limited to about 5 and 15% at 0.1 mol L?1, respectively, which are much smaller values than corresponding st‐polymers. The results imply that radical coupling reaction is prevented during template polymerization to support the resulting living polymerization. ATR‐IR spectral patterns of oligomer complexes and it‐PMMA slightly changed in both cases, suggesting complex formation. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Various molecular weights of isotactic (it‐)‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and syndiotactic (st‐)‐poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) were used to form an it‐PMMA/st‐PMAA (1/2) stereocomplex in acetonitrile/water as a suspension. The stereocomplex was tentatively crosslinked with 1,11‐diamino‐3‐6‐9‐trioxaundecane and water soluble carbodiimide at 10, 20, and 40 mol % concentrations versus MAA unit. The it‐PMMA was extracted from the crosslinked stereocomplex under alkaline conditions, and the successive re‐incorporation of the it‐PMMA was carried out. During the extraction and re‐incorporation processes, the FTIR/ATR spectra showed the absence and generation of a peak at 860 cm?1, respectively, which was characteristic of this stereocomplex. The result of the XRD analysis also corresponded with the extraction and re‐incorporation behavior of it‐PMMA; peaks were observed at 2θ = 12 and 15°, d = 0.74 and 0.59 nm, respectively. This study showed that the nanospaces of helical st‐PMAA were available in acetonitrile/water in a suspended state using a crosslinking approach. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave annealing enables rapid (60 s) ordering and orientation of block copolymer films. The developed morphology in polystyrene‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS‐b‐PMMA) thin films depends on details of the heating rate that is controlled by microwave output energy as well as the sample location in the microwave. Over a wide heating rate (1.1–2.7 °C/s), perpendicular orientation of the cylindrical mesostructure at the surface is >50% after 60 s, but goes through a maximum at 1.8 °C/s leading to approximately 97% perpendicular cylinders at the surface. The propagation of this perpendicular surface morphology through the film thickness is also dependent upon the microwave annealing conditions. The surface structure evolves with the microwave annealing time from imperfect ordering to perpendicular cylinders to parallel cylinders as the annealing time increases. This work demonstrates the importance of controlling the heating rate during microwave annealing, which will be critical for optimizing microwave conditions for directed self‐assembly. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Biomass‐derived furfuryl methacrylate (FMA) has been successfully polymerized for the first time by anionic polymerization to produce atactic (at‐), isotactic (it‐), or syndiotactic (st‐) poly(furfuryl methacrylate) (PFMA), depending on initiator structure and reaction conditions. Thermal properties of the PFMA materials are strongly affected by the polymer tacticity. Most notably, while both isotactic and syndiotactic polymers can undergo inter‐ or intrachain crosslinking reactions when heated to 290 °C, there is no evidence for the atactic polymer to perform the same reaction. Furthermore, the PFMA tacticity also greatly affects the amount of stable carbonaceous materials it produces when heated to 650 °C, with st‐PFMA forming the largest amount of such materials (26.9%), as compared to only 5.6% by at‐PFMA. Using the Diels–Alder (DA) “click reaction” between the reactive furfuryl group within the PFMA polymers as the diene equivalent and a bismaleimide as the dienophile, thermoreversible smart polymers have been successfully prepared. Thermoreversibility of the preformed crosslinked polymers has been demonstrated, thanks to the facile retro‐DA reaction upon heating and the DA reaction upon cooling of such self‐healing materials. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Slow side‐group dynamics in a series of five poly(alkyl methacrylate)s with various side‐group sizes [poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), poly(ethyl methacrylate) (PEMA), poly(isobutyl methacrylate) (PiBMA), and poly(cyclohexyl methacrylate), with ? H, ? CH3, ? CH2CH3, ? CH2CH(CH3)2, and ? cyclohexyl alkyl substituents (CODEX), respectively] were studied quantitatively by centerband‐only detection of exchange nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Flips and small‐angle motions of the ester groups associated with the β relaxation were observed distinctly in the CODEX NMR data, and the fraction of slowly flipping groups was measured with a precision of 3%. In PMMA, 34% of the side groups flipped on a 1‐s timescale, whereas the fraction was 31% in PEMA at 25 °C. Even the large isobutylether and cyclohexylester side groups flipped in the glassy state, although the flipping fraction was reduced to 22 and about 10%, respectively. In PMAA, no slow side‐group flips were detected on the 1‐s timescale. A striking difference in the temperature dependence of the flipping fraction in PMMA versus PEMA and PiBMA was observed. In PMMA, the flipping fraction was temperature‐independent between 25 and 80 °C, whereas in PEMA, it increased continuously from 31 to 60% between 25 and 60 °C. A similar doubling was also observed in PiBMA. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 39: 2444–2453, 2001  相似文献

A poly(methyl methacrylate)‐block‐poly(4‐vinylpyridine)‐block‐polystyrene (PMMA‐b‐P4VP‐b‐PS) triblock terpolymer is synthesized by ATRP to study its self‐assembly with PAA in organic solvents. The self‐assembly behavior of this system is compared with the one of a mixture of two diblocks, namely polystyrene‐block‐poly(4‐vinylpyridine) (PS‐b‐P4VP) and poly(methyl methacrylate)‐block‐poly(methacrylic acid) (PMMA‐b‐PMAA). For both systems, formation of hydrogen‐bonded complexes between the P4VP and PMAA or PAA blocks occurs. These complexes become insoluble in the solvent used and micelles with a P4VP/P(M)AA complexes core surrounded by PS and PMMA coronal chains are obtained in both cases. These micelles are analyzed by DLS and TEM. Spherical micelles are formed for both systems but the hydrodynamic radii obtained for the two types of micelles are different. Indeed, the micelles formed by the PMMA‐b‐P4VP‐b‐PS + PAA system are smaller than those observed for the PS‐b‐P4VP + PMMA‐b‐PMAA system. Finally, the effect of the molar ratio of the P4VP/PMAA complexing blocks is investigated. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2015 , 53, 459–467  相似文献

In this study, the stereocomplexation between a novel stereospecific cyclic vinyl polymer, that is, cyclic syndiotactic poly(methyl methacrylate) (st‐PMMA), with the complementary linear isotactic (it‐) PMMA was investigated. Surprising new insight into the effects of the topology (i.e., end groups), size, and tacticity of the assembling components on stereocomplex formation was obtained. Characterization of the stereocomplexes revealed that the self‐assembly of cyclic st‐PMMAs and linear it‐PMMAs resulted in the formation of an unprecedented “polypseudorotaxane‐type” supramolecular assembly. This stereocomplex exhibited remarkably different physical properties as compared to the conventional PMMA triple‐helix stereocomplex as a result of the restricted topology imposed by the cyclic st‐PMMA assembling component.  相似文献

Micro‐sized patterns were created on thin poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) films by the effect of external field, perpendicular to the film surface. The PMMA film, prepared by spin‐coating onto Si wafer, was heated to the fluid temperature (275 °C) and a linear pattern was created by the effect of electric field produced by a strip electrode. In another experiment, a round pattern was created as a result of local laser heating of the PMMA film under homogenous electrical field. The created patterns were analyzed by optical microscopy and profile meter. The dependence of the form and size of the created patterns on the intensity of the electric field, exposure time, and initial film thickness was examined. Wave guiding property of a linear pattern, produced by the above technique, was examined in a simple experiment. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of diblock copolymers of n‐pentyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate (PPMA/PMMA BCP) with one or two terminal functional groups was prepared by sequential anionic polymerization of PMA and MMA using an allyl‐functionalized initiator and/or and end‐capping with allyl bromide. Allyl functional groups were successfully converted into OH groups by hydroboration. The morphology in bulk was examined by temperature‐dependent small‐angle X‐ray measurements (T‐SAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showing that functional groups induced a weak change in d‐spacings L0 as well as in the thermal expansion behavior. T‐SAXS proved that the lamellar morphologies were stable over multiple heating/cooling cycles without order‐disorder transition (ODT) until 300 °C. While non‐functionalized BCP formed parallel lamellae morphologies, additional OH‐termination at the PMMA block forced in very thin films (ratio between film thickness and lamellar d‐spacing below 1) the generation of perpendicular lamellae morphology through the whole film thickness, as shown by Grazing‐incidence small‐angle X‐ray scattering experiments (GISAXS) measurements. Functionalized BCP were successfully used in thin films as templates for silica nanoparticles in an in‐situ sol–gel process. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Kinetic results of CuSO4/2,2'‐bipyridine(bPy)‐amine redox initiated radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) at 70 to 90 °C in dimethylsulfoxide suggest that such initiation is characteristic of a slow rate and a low initiator efficiency, but tertiary amines exhibit a relatively higher rate. UV‐Vis spectroscopy confirms the alpha‐amino functionality of PMMA chains. CuCl2/bPy successfully mediates the redox‐initiated radical polymerization of MMA with aliphatic tertiary amines in a fashion of slow‐initiated reverse atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), i.e. both the initiator efficiency of aliphatic tertiary amines and the average molecular weight of PMMA increase gradually, while the molecular weight distribution remains narrow but become broader with the conversions. As the PMMA chains contain alpha amino and omega C‐Cl moieties, UV‐induced benzophenone‐initiated radical polymerization and CuICl/bPy‐catalyzed ATRP initiated from PMMA lead to block copolymers from terminal functionalities. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of ABA triblock copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and dodecyl methacrylate (DMA) [poly(MMA‐b‐DMA‐b‐MMA)] (PMDM) were synthesized by Ru‐based sequential living radical polymerization. For this, DMA was first polymerized from a difunctional initiator, ethane‐1,2‐diyl bis(2‐chloro‐2‐phenylacetate) with combination of RuCl2(PPh3)3 catalyst and nBu3N additive in toluene at 80 °C. As the conversion of DMA reached over about 90%, MMA was directly added into the reaction solution to give PMDM with controlled molecular weight (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.2). These triblock copolymers showed well‐organized morphologies such as body centered cubic, hexagonal cylinder, and lamella structures both in bulk and in thin film by self‐assembly phenomenon with different poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) weight fractions. Obtained PMDMs with 20–40 wt % of the PMMA segments showed excellent electroactive actuation behaviors at relatively low voltages, which was much superior compared to conventional styrene‐ethylene‐butylene‐styrene triblock copolymer systems due to its higher polarity derived from the methacrylate backbone and lower modulus. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Herein, we present a simple method for producing nanoporous templates with a high degree of lateral ordering by self‐assembly of block copolymers. A key feature of this approach is control of the orientation of polymeric microdomains through the use of hydrophilic additives as structure directing agents. Incorporation of hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) moieties into poly(styrene‐b‐methyl methacrylate) (PSt‐b‐PMMA) diblock copolymers gives vertical alignment of PMMA cylinders on the substrate after solvent annealing. Because of the miscibility between PEO and PMMA, PEO additives were selectively positioned within PMMA microdomains and by controlling the processing conditions, it was found that ordering of PSt‐b‐PMMA diblock copolymers could be achieved. The perpendicular orientation of PMMA cylinders was achieved by increasing the molecular size of the PEO additives leading to an increased hydrophilicity of the PMMA domains and consequently to control the orientation of microdomains in PSt‐b‐PMMA block copolymer thin films. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Phase separation of polystyrene (PS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) blends was used as a means to segregate PS‐ or PMMA‐functionalized single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in thin films. Dilute solutions (5 wt % in THF) of 1:1 PS/PMMA blends containing the functionalized nanotubes were spin cast and annealed at 180 °C for 12 h. Two different polymer molecular weights were used (Mn = 8000 or Mn = 22,000), and were of approximately equivalent molecular weight to those attached to the surface of the nanotubes. Nanotube functionalization was accomplished using the Cu(I)‐catalyzed [3 + 2] Huisgen cycloaddition, in which alkyne‐decorated nanotubes were coupled with azide‐terminated polymers, resulting in polymer‐SWNT conjugates that were soluble in THF. Characterization of the annealed films by scanning Raman spectroscopy, which utilized the unique Raman fingerprint of carbon nanotubes, enabled accurate mapping of the functionalized SWNTs within the films relative to the two phase‐separated polymers. It was found that nanotube localization within the phase‐separated polymer films was influenced by the type of polymer attached to the nanotube surface, as well as its molecular weight. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A variety of conditions, including catalysts [CuCl, CuI, Cu2O, and Cu(0)], ligands [2,2′‐bipyridine (bpy), tris(2‐dimethylaminoethyl)amine (Me6‐TREN), polyethyleneimine, and hexamethyl triethylenetetramine], initiators [CH3CHClI, CH2I2, CHI3, and F(CF2)8I], solvents [diphenyl ether, toluene, tetrahydrofuran, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), dimethylformamide, ethylene carbonate, dimethylacetamide, and cyclohexanone], and temperatures [90, 25, and 0 °C] were studied to assess previous methods for poly(methyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(vinyl chloride)‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA‐b‐PVC‐b‐PMMA) synthesis by the living radical block copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) initiated with α,ω‐di(iodo)poly(vinyl chloride). CH3CHClI was used as a model for α,ω‐di(iodo)poly(vinyl chloride) employed as a macroinitiator in the living radical block copolymerization of MMA. Two groups of methods evolved. The first involved CuCl/bpy or Me6‐TREN at 90 °C, whereas the second involved Cu(0)/Me6‐TREN in DMSO at 25 or 0 °C. Related ligands were used in both methods. The highest initiator efficiency and rate of polymerization were obtained with Cu(0)/Me6‐TREN in DMSO at 25 °C. This demonstrated that the ultrafast block copolymerization reported previously is the most efficient with respect to the rate of polymerization and precision of the PMMA‐b‐PVC‐b‐PMMA architecture. Moreover, Cu(0)/Me6‐TREN‐catalyzed polymerization exhibits an external first order of reaction in DMSO, and so this solvent has a catalytic effect in this living radical polymerization (LRP). This polymerization can be performed between 90 and 0 °C and provides access to controlled poly(methyl methacrylate) tacticity by LRP and block copolymerization. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) was used to synthesize methacrylic acid oligomers and oligo(methacrylic acid)‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMAA‐b‐PMMA) with targeted degree of polymerization ≈ 10. Characterization is by size‐exclusion chromatography (SEC) and electrospray mass‐spectrometry. SEC data are presented as hydrodynamic volume distributions (HVDs), the only proper means to present comparative and meaningful SEC data when there is no unique relationship between size and molecular weight. The RAFT agent, (4‐cyanopentanoic acid)‐4‐dithiobenzoate (CPADB), produced dithiobenzoic acid as a side product during the polymerization of methacrylate derivatives. Precipitation in diethyl ether proved to be an easy way to remove this impurity from the PMAA‐RAFT oligomers. Both unpurified and purified macro‐RAFT agent were used to prepare amphiphilic PMAA‐b‐PMMA copolymers. Diblock copolymer prepared from the purified PMAA homopolymer had a narrower HVD in comparison to those obtained from the equivalent unpurified macro‐RAFT agent. This work shows that while cyanoisopropyl‐dithiobenzoate or CPADB are good RAFT agents for methacrylate derivatives, they exhibit some instability under typical polymerization conditions, and thus when oligomers are targeted, optimal control requires checking for the degradation product and appropriate purification steps when necessary (the same effect is present for larger polymers but is unimportant). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cationic photopolymerization is a convenient in situ polymerization method for organic thin film preparation. In this work, the polymerization mechanisms is applied for highly viscous cross‐linking monomers, using tetra‐alkylepoxyporphyrin (TAEP) as a case study. By comparing the UV‐Vis spectra of the polymerized sample before and after the unreacted monomers have been dissolved, it is possible to estimate the polymerization yield. An IR spectrum of a reference thick film confirms full polymerization. Scanning fluorescence lifetime microscopy and AFM show the uniformity of the polymer. It was shown that photopolymerization is highly dependent on the substrate nature and requires at best case a 10 min illumination at 90 °C. Thermal polymerization of the same sample requires 10 min heating at 150 °C in dark. It was also shown that TAEP works as a self‐sensitizer for cationic photopolymerization. The proposed method is a mild and versatile technique for in situ preparation of thin polymeric films directly from chromophore monomers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thermal dehydration process of PMAA was investigated by solid‐state 13C NMR. For heat‐treated PMAA at 150°C, at which the dehydration goes very slowly, we observed three 13C peaks at 172, 178, and 187 ppm in the carboxyl group region. The peak at 172 ppm is due to the intramolecular cyclic anhydrides by comparing the reported value of 13C chemical shift. The peaks at 178 and 187 ppm were assigned to regularly aligned free carboxylic acids and intermolecular acid dimers, respectively, from the 2D‐exchange 13C NMR spectra, 13C chemical shift values and IR spectra. We concluded that by heat‐treatment the rearrangement of intermolecular hydrogen bonding of the carboxylic acids in PMAA occurs firstly to form the regularly aligned acid dimers, and the dimers dissociated to be the regularly aligned free carboxylic acids at high temperatures. The adjacent free carboxyl acids dehydrate with each other, resulting in the formation of intramolecular anhydrides. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. To prepare thermally stable and high‐performance polymeric films, new solvent‐soluble aromatic polyamides with a carbamoyl pendant group, namely poly(4,4′‐diamino‐3′‐carbamoylbenzanilide terephthalamide) (p‐PDCBTA) and poly(4,4′‐diamino‐3′‐carbamoylbenzanilide isophthalamide) (m‐PDCBTA), were synthesized. The polymers were cyclized at around 200 to 350 °C to form quinazolone and benzoxazinone units along the polymer backbone. The decomposition onset temperatures of the cyclized m‐ and p‐PDCBTAs were 457 and 524 °C, respectively, lower than that of poly(p‐phenylene terephthalamide) (566 °C). For the p‐PDCBTA film drawn by 40% and heat‐treated, the tensile strength and Young's modulus were 421 MPa and 16.4 GPa, respectively. The film cyclized at 350 °C showed a storage modulus (E′) of 1 × 1011 dyne/cm2 (10 GPa) over the temperature range of room temperature to 400 °C. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
