Herein, we report the preparation of structured multistimuli‐responsive surfaces able to change reversibly both their chemical composition depending on the environment and their surface behavior by varying either/both the pH or/and the temperature. For that purpose, we took advantage of the surface segregation in homopolymer/diblock copolymer blends, composed of either polystyrene‐block‐poly(N,N′‐dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate) (PS‐b‐PDMAEMA) or polystyrene‐block‐poly (N,N′‐diethylaminoethylmethacrylate) (PS‐b‐PDEAEMA) and high molecular weight polystyrene used as a matrix. The variations of the surface composition as a function of the environment of exposure (air or water vapor) was investigated were investigated by XPS and contact angle measurements. The water‐annealed surfaces contain PDMAEMA or PDEAEMA at the surface and are additionally able to respond both to pH and temperature as demonstrated by the Wilhelmy technique. Both PDMAEMA and PDEAEMA can switch from a hydrophilic state to a collapsed hydrophobic state increasing the temperature above the LCST. More interestingly, as a result of the microphase separation of the block copolymers at the interface, the surfaces of the blends exhibit structuration. Thus, either micellar structures or “donut‐like” morphologies were obtained by using THF or toluene, respectively, as solvent. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. For the first time, the polyelectrolyte complex (PEC) formation tool was used for preparation of core‐shell nanoparticles form the natural polyampholyte N‐carboxyethylchitosan (CECh) and weak polycationic (protonated) polyoxyethylene‐b‐poly[2‐(dimethyl‐amino)ethyl methacrylate] (POE‐b‐PDMAEMA) diblock copolymers. The performed dynamic light scattering analyses revealed that nanoparticles with a PEC core and a POE shell could be formed at mixing ratio between the oppositely charged groups equal to 1/1 depending on CECh molar mass, polymerization degree of PDMAEMA block and ionic strength. The results were confirmed by the performed AFM and cryo‐TEM analyses. When high molar mass CECh was used, core‐shell nanoparticles were obtained with the diblock copolymer of the shortest PDMAEMA block at ionic strength (I) of 0.01. At ionic strength value close to the physiological one (I = 0.1) secondary aggregation occurred. Spherical nanoparticles at I = 0.1 were obtained upon lowering the CECh molar mass. Depending on the polymer partners and medium parameters the size of the obtained particles varied from 60 to 600 nm. The X‐ray photoelectron spectra evidenced the hydrophilic POE‐block shell—coacervate CECh/PDMAEMA‐block core structure. The nanoparticles are stable in a rather narrow pH range around 7.0, thus revealing the high pH‐sensitivity of the obtained core‐shell particles. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the preparation of nanostructured adaptive polymer surfaces by diffusion of an amphihilic block copolymer toward the interface. The surface segregation of a diblock copolymer, polystyrene‐block‐poly(acrylic acid) (PS‐b‐PAA), occurred when blended with high molecular weight polystyrene employed as a matrix. On annealing, the polymer surfaces changed both the chemical composition and the hydrophilicity depending on the environment and pH, respectively. By exposure to either water vapor or air, the surface wettability varied between hydrophilic and hydrophobic. In addition, surface enrichment on diblock copolymer by water vapor annealing led to self‐assembly occurring at the interface. Hence, nanostructured domains can be observed by AFM in liquid media. Moreover, the PAA segments placed at the interface respond to pH and can switch from an extended hydrophilic state at basic pH values to a collapsed hydrophobic state in acidic media. Accordingly, the surface morphology changed from swelled micelles to nanometer size holes. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 48: 2982–2990, 2010  相似文献

A new class of temperature and pH dual‐responsive and injectable supramolecular hydrogel was developed, which was formed from block copolymer poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly[(2‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PEG‐b‐PDMAEMA) and α‐cyclodextrin (α‐CD) inclusion complexes (ICs). The PEG‐b‐PDMAEMA diblock copolymers with different ratio of ethylene glycol (EG) to (2‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) (102:46 and 102:96, respectively) were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). 1H NMR measurement indicated that the ratio of EG unit to α‐CD in the resulted ICs was higher than 2:1. Thermal analysis showed that thermal stability of ICs was improved. The rheology studies showed that the hydrogels were temperature and pH sensitive. Moreover, the hydrogels were thixotropic and reversible. The self‐assembly morphologies of the ICs in different pH and ionic strength environment were studied by transmission electron microscopy. The formed biocompatible micelles have potential applications as biomedical and stimulus‐responsive material. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel amphiphilic fluorinated ABC‐type triblock copolymers composed of hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether (MeOPEO), hydrophobic polystyrene (PSt), and hydrophobic/lipophobic poly(perfluorohexylethyl acrylate) (PFHEA) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA)/CuBr as a catalyst system. The bromide‐terminated diblock copolymers poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐polystyrene (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt‐Br) were prepared by the ATRP of styrene initiated with the macroinitiator MeOPEO‐Br, which was obtained by the esterification of poly(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether (MeOPEO) with 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide. A fluorinated block of poly(perfluorohexylethyl acrylate) (PFHEA) was then introduced into the diblock copolymer by a second ATRP process to synthesize a novel ABC‐type triblock copolymer, poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐polystyrene‐block‐poly(perfluorohexylethyl acrylate) (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt‐b‐PFHEA). These block copolymers were characterized by means of proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Water contact angle measurements revealed that the polymeric coating of the triblock copolymer (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt‐b‐PFHEA) shows more hydrophobic than that of the corresponding diblock copolymer (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt). Bovine serum albumin (BSA) was used as a model protein to evaluate the protein adsorption property and the triblock copolymer coating posseses excellent protein‐resistant character prior to the corresponding diblock copolymer and polydimethylsiloxane. These amphiphilic fluoropolymers can expect to have potential applications for antifouling coatings and antifouling membranes. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The amphiphilic organoboron block copolymer poly (styreneboronic acid)‐block‐polystyrene ( PSBA‐b‐PS ) has been prepared through a postpolymerization modification route from the silicon‐functionalized block copolymer poly(4‐trimethylsilylstyrene)‐block‐polystyrene ( PSSi‐b‐PS ). PSBA‐b‐PS is obtained through highly selective reaction of PSSi‐b‐PS with BBr3 at room temperature and subsequent hydrolysis of the BBr2‐functionalized intermediate. Transmission electron microscopy studies demonstrate that PSBA‐b‐PS undergoes pH dependent micellization in aqueous solution. Different morphologies could be realized by using different mixtures of water and organic solvents. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 48: 2438–2445, 2010  相似文献

In this work, the synthesis and characterization of novel amphiphilic diblock copolymers of poly(2‐dimethylamino ethyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(lauryl methacrylate), PDMAEMA‐b‐PLMA, using the reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization technique, are reported. The diblocks were successfully derivatized to cationic and zwitterionic block polyelectrolytes by quaternization and sulfobetainization of the PDMAEMA block, respectively. Furthermore, their molecular and physicochemical characterization was performed by using characterization techniques such as NMR and FTIR, size exclusion chromatography, light scattering techniques, and transmission electron microscopy. The structure of the diblock micelles, their behavior, and properties in aqueous solution were investigated under the effect of pH, temperature, and ionic strength, as PDMAEMA and its derivatives are stimuli‐responsive polymers and exhibit responses to variations of at least one of these physicochemical parameters. These new families of stimuli‐responsive block copolymers respond to changes of their environment giving interesting nanostructures, behavioral motifs, and properties, rendering them useful as nanocarriers for drug delivery and gene therapy. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis and self‐assembly properties in aqueous solutions of novel amphiphilic block copolymers composed of one hydrophilic, pH and temperature responsive poly(dimethyl amino ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) block and one weakly hydrophobic, water insoluble, potentially thermoresponsive poly(hydroxy propyl methacrylate) (PHPMA) block, are reported. The block copolymers were prepared by RAFT polymerization and were molecularly characterized by size exclusion chromatography, NMR, and FTIR spectroscopies. The PDMAEMA‐b‐PHPMA amphiphilic block copolymers self‐assemble in different nanostructured aggregates when inserted in aqueous media. The effects of different solubilization protocols, as well as the effects of solution temperature and pH on the structure of the aggregates, are studied by light scattering and fluorescence spectroscopy measurements. Experimental results indicate that there is a number of solution preparation and physicochemical parameters that allow the control and manipulation of the structure and thermoresponsive properties of PDMAEMA‐b‐PHPMA aggregates in aqueous media. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The diblock copolymers of polystyrene and poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) (PSt‐b‐PtBA) with various molecular weights and hydrophobic/hydrophilic (styrene/acrylic acid) chain length were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Selective hydrolysis of the diblock copolymers (PSt‐b‐PtBA) resulted in amphiphilic block copolymers of polystyrene and poly(acrylic acid) (PSt‐b‐PAA). The amphiphilic block copolymers of PSt‐b‐PAA with average molecular weight (Mn) <7500 were proved to be critical in dispersing the pigments of UV curable ink‐jet inks for manufacturing the color filter. Incorporating DB2 diblock copolymer dispersants with styrene/acrylic acid ratio at 1.5 allowed more UV curable compositions in the red and blue inks without deteriorating pigment dispersing stability and jetting properties of the ink‐jet inks. The ink drops can be precisely ejected into the tiny color area. Better properties of the cured red stripe such as nanoindentation hardness and chemical resistance were found. The competing absorption of UV light by the blue pigment hindered the through cure of monomers near the interface between glass substrate and the blue stripe. This leads to lower hardness and poor chemical resistance of the UV cured blue stripe. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 43: 3337–3353, 2005  相似文献

Well‐defined H‐shaped pentablock copolymers composed of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM), poly(N,N‐dimethylaminoethylacrylamide) (PDMAEMA), and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with the chain architecture of (A/B)‐b‐C‐b‐(A/B) were synthesized by the combination of single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization, atom‐transfer radical polymerization, and click chemistry. Single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization of NIPAM using α,ω azide‐capped PEG macroinitiator resulted in PNIPAM‐b‐PEG‐b‐PNIPAM with azide groups at the block joints. Atom‐transfer radical polymerization of DMAEMA initiated by propargyl 2‐chloropropionate gave out α‐capped alkyne‐PDMAEMA. The H‐shaped copolymers were finally obtained by the click reaction between PNIPAM‐b‐PEG‐b‐PNIPAM and alkyne‐PDMAEMA. These copolymers were used to prepare stable colloidal gold nanoparticles (GNPs) in aqueous solution without any external reducing agent. The formation of GNPs was affected by the length of PDMAEMA block, the feed ratio of the copolymer to HAuCl4, and the pH value. The surface plasmon absorbance of these obtained GNPs also exhibited pH and thermal dependence because of the existence of PNIAPM and PDAMEMA blocks. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanoparticles with a sensitive CO2‐responsive hydrophilic/hydrophobic surface that confers controlled dispersion and aggregation in water were prepared by emulsion polymerization at 50 °C under CO2 bubbling using amphiphilic diblock copolymers of 2‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) and N‐isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAAm) as an emulsifier. The amphiphilicity of the hydrophobic–hydrophilic diblock copolymer at 50 °C was triggered by CO2 bubbling in water and enabled the copolymer to serve as an emulsifier. The resulting PMMA nanoparticles were spherical, approximately 100 nm in diameter and exhibited sensitive CO2/N2‐responsive dispersion/aggregation in water. Using copolymers with a longer PNIPAAm block length as an emulsifier resulted in smaller particles. A higher concentration of copolymer emulsifier led to particles with a stickier surface. Given its simple preparation and reversible CO2‐triggered amphiphilic behavior, this newly developed block copolymer emulsifier offers a highly efficient route toward the fabrication of sensitive CO2‐stimuli responsive polymeric nanoparticle dispersions. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel POSS‐containing methacrylate monomer (HEMAPOSS) was fabricated by extending the side chain between polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) unit and methacrylate group, which can efficiently decrease the steric hindrance in free‐radical polymerization of POSS‐methacrylate monomer. POSS‐containing homopolymers (PHEMAPOSS) with a higher degree of polymerization (DP) can be prepared using HEMAPOSS monomer via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. PHEMAPOSS was further used as the macro‐RAFT agent to construct a series of amphiphilic POSS‐containing poly(N, N‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) diblock copolymers, PHEMAPOSS‐b‐PDMAEMA. PHEMAPOSS‐b‐PDMAEMA block copolymers can self‐assemble into a plethora of morphologies ranging from irregular assembled aggregates to core‐shell spheres and further from complex spheres (pearl‐necklace‐liked structure) to large compound vesicles. The thermo‐ and pH‐responsive behaviors of the micelles were also investigated by dynamic laser scattering, UV spectroscopy, SEM, and TEM. The results reveal the reversible transition of the assembled morphologies from spherical micelles to complex micelles was realized through acid‐base control. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Novel and well‐defined amphiphilic H‐shaped terpolymers poly(L‐lactide)‐block‐(poly(2‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) ‐block‐)poly(ε‐caprolactone)(‐block‐poly(2‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate)) ‐b‐poly(L‐lactide) (PLLA‐b‐(PDMAEMA‐b‐)PCL(‐b‐PDMAEMA)‐b‐PLLA) were synthesized by the combination of ring‐opening polymerization, atom transfer radical polymerization, and click chemistry. The H‐shaped amphiphilic terpolymers can self‐assemble into spherical nano‐micelles in water. Because of the dually responsive (temperature and pH) properties of PDMAEMA segments, the hydrodynamic radius of the micelles of the H‐shaped terpolymer solution can be adjusted by altering the environmental temperature or pH values. The thermal properties investigation and the crystalline morphology analysis indicate that the branched structure of the H‐shaped terpolymers and the presence of amorphous PDMAEMA segments together led to the obvious decrease of PCL segments and the complete destruction of crystallinity of the PLLA segments in the H‐shaped terpolymers. In addition, the H‐shaped terpolymer film has better hydrophilicity than linear PCL or triblock polymer of PLLA‐b‐(N3? )PCL(? N3)‐b‐PLLA, due to the decrease or destruction of the crystallizability of the PCL or PLLA in the H‐shaped terpolymer and the presence of hydrophilic PDMAEMA segments. These unique H‐shaped amphiphilic terpolymers composed of biodegradable and biocompatible PCL and PLLA components and intelligent and biocompatible PDMAEMA component will have the potential applications in biomedical fields. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel monomer, ethyl 4‐[4‐(11‐methacryloyloxyundecyloxy)phenyl azobenzoyl‐oxyl] benzoate, containing a photoisomerizable N?N group was synthesized. The monomer was further diblock copolymerized with methyl methacrylate. Amphiphilic diblock copolymer poly(methyl methacrylate‐block‐ethyl 4‐[4‐(11‐methacryloyloxyundecyloxy)phenyl azobenzoyl‐oxyl] benzoate ( PMMA ‐ b ‐ PAzoMA ) was synthesized using atom transfer radical polymerization. The reverse micelles with spherical construction were obtained with 2 wt % of the diblock copolymer in a THF/H2O mixture of 1:2. Under alternating UV and visible light illumination, reversible changes in micellar structure between sphere and rod‐like particles took place as a result of the reversible E‐Z photoisomerization of azobenzene segments in PMMA ‐ b ‐ PAzoMA . Microphase separation of the amphiphilic diblock copolymer in thin films was achieved through thermal and solvent aligning methods. The microphases of the annealed thin films were investigated using atom force microscopy topology and scanning electron microscopy analyses. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Summary: Based on a hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) macroinitiator (PEOBr), a novel amphiphilic diblock copolymer PEO‐block‐poly(11‐(4‐cyanobiphenyloxy)undecyl) methacrylate) (PEO‐b‐PMA(11CB)) was prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using CuCl/1,1,4,7,10,10‐hexamethyltriethylenetriamine as a catalyst system. An azobenzene block of poly(11‐[4‐(4‐butylphenylazo)phenoxyl]undecyl methacrylate) was then introduced into the copolymer sequence by a second ATRP to synthesize the corresponding triblock copolymer PEO‐b‐PMA(11CB)‐b‐PMA(11Az). Both of the amphiphilic block copolymers had well‐defined structures and narrow molecular‐weight distributions, and exhibited a smectic liquid‐crystalline phase over a wide temperature range.

Two chiral amphiphilic diblock copolymers with different relative lengths of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic blocks, poly(6‐O‐p‐vinylbenzyl‐1,2:3,4‐Di‐O‐isopropylidene‐D ‐galactopyranose)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) or poly(VBCPG)‐b‐poly(NIPAAM) and poly(20‐(hydroxymethyl)‐pregna‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one methacrylate)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) or poly(MAC‐HPD)‐b‐poly(NIPAAM) were synthesized via consecutive reversible addition‐fragmentation chain‐transfer polymerizations of VBCPG or MAC‐HPD and NIPAAM. The chemical structures of these diblock copolymers were characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. These amphiphilic diblock copolymers could self‐assemble into micelles in aqueous solution, and the morphologies of micelles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. By comparison with the lower critical solution temperatures (LCST) of poly(NIPAAM) homopolymer in deionized water (32 °C), a higher LCST of the chiral amphiphilic diblock copolymer (poly(VBCPG)‐b‐poly(NIPAAM)) was observed and the LCST increased with the relative length of the poly(VBCPG) block in the copolymer from 35 to 47 °C, respectively. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A hetero‐arm star polymer, polystyrene‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐ poly(2‐(dimethylamino)ethylmethacrylate) (PSt‐PNIPAM‐PDMAEMA), was synthesized by “clicking” the alkyne group at the junction of PSt‐b‐PNIPAM diblock copolymer onto the azide end‐group of PDMAEMA homopolymer via 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition. The resultant polymer was characterized by gel permeation chromatography, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. PSt‐PNIPAM‐PDMAEMA micelles with PSt block as core and PNIPAM and PDMAEMA blocks as shell were formed when adding the copolymer solution in THF into 10 folds of water. Lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of PNIPAM and PDMAEMA homopolymer is 32 °C for PNIPAM and 40 to 50 °C for PDMAEMA, respectively. Upon continuous heating through their LCSTs, PSt‐PNIPAM‐PDMAEMA core‐shell micelles exhibited two‐stage thermally induced collapse. The first‐stage collapse, from 20 to 34 °C, is ascribed to the shrinkage of PNIPAM chains; and the second‐stage collapse, from 38 to 50 °C, is due to the shrinkage of PDMAEMA chains. Dynamic light scattering was used to confirm the double phase transitions. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 786–796, 2009  相似文献

The poly(ethylene glycol)/poly(2‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PEG/PDMAEMA) double hydrophilic block copolymers were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization using mPEG‐Br or Br‐PEG‐Br as macroinitiators. The narrow molecular weight distribution of PEG/PDMAEMA block copolymers was identified by gel permeation chromatography results. The thermosensitivity of PEG/PDMAEMA block copolymers in aqueous solution was revealed to depend significantly on pH, ionic strength, chain structure, and concentration of the block copolymers. By optimizing these factors, the cloud point temperature of PEG/PDMAEMA block copolymers can be limited within body temperature range (30–37 °C), which suggests that PEG/PDMAEMA block copolymers could be a good candidate for drug delivery systems. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We performed a critical reinvestigation of microwave enhancement of nitroxide‐mediated polymerization (NMP) of acrylamide (AM) in aqueous media in the dynamic (DYN) mode with a combination of a conventional hydrosoluble radical initiator and a β‐phosphonylated nitroxide (SG1). Based on the results of our previous work, a complementary series of polymerization reactions was carried out between 130 and 160 °C using only the DYN mode to ascertain the existence of a microwave effect. The polymer conversion (p), molar masses, polydispersity index, and viscosity of each sample were measured. The temperature was monitored inside and outside of the vessel using an optical fiber sensor and an IR sensor, respectively. Microwave enhancement of polymerization, temperature control and viscosity of the reaction media were closely related. We also furthered the field of hydrophilic AB diblock copolymer synthesis using a tertiary SG1‐based macroalkoxyamine and directly synthesized both poly(acrylamide‐b‐sodium 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methylpropanesulfonate), a neutral‐b‐anionic diblock copolymer, and poly(acrylamide‐b‐3‐dimethyl(methacrylamidopropyl)ammonium propanesulfonate), a neutral‐b‐zwitterionic diblock copolymer, in homogeneous aqueous media. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of a diblock copolymer of styrene and vinyl acetate (VAC), PS‐b‐PVAC, was performed by successive photoinduced charge‐transfer polymerization (CTP) under UV irradiation. A novel amphiphilic diblock copolymer of PS‐b‐PVA then was obtained by the hydrolysis of the diblock copolymer PS‐b‐PVAC with sodium ethoxide as a catalyst. Both of them were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, H NMR, and gel permeation chromatography in detail. The effect of the solvents on the CTP and the kinetics of the CTP are discussed. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 914–920, 2000  相似文献
