4μ‐A2B2 star‐shaped copolymers contained polystyrene (PS), poly(isoprene) (PI), poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) or poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) arms were synthesized by a combination of Glaser coupling with living anionic polymerization (LAP) and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). Firstly, the functionalized PS or PI with an alkyne group and a protected hydroxyl group at the same end were synthesized by LAP and then modified by propargyl bromide. Subsequently, the macro‐initiator PS or PI with two active hydroxyl groups at the junction point were synthesized by Glaser coupling in the presence of pyridine/CuBr/N,N,N ′,N ″,N ″‐penta‐methyl diethylenetri‐amine (PMDETA) system and followed by hydrolysis of protected hydroxyl groups. Finally, the ROP of EO and ε‐CL monomers was carried out using diphenylmethyl potassium (DPMK) and tin(II)‐bis(2‐ethylhexanoate) (Sn(Oct)2) as catalyst for target star‐shaped copolymers, respectively. These copolymers and their intermediates were well characterized by SEC, 1H NMR, MALDI‐TOF mass spectra and FT‐IR in details. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The microwave‐assisted statistical copolymerization of 2‐phenyl‐2‐oxazoline with 2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline or 2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline is discussed in this contribution. Kinetic studies of these statistical copolymerizations as well as reactivity ratio determinations were performed to investigate the monomer distribution in these copoly(2‐oxazoline)s, demonstrating the formation of quasi‐diblock copolymers. In addition, the synthesis of copolymer series with monomer concentrations ranging from 0 to 100 mol % is described. These copolymer series were characterized with 1H NMR spectroscopy, gas chromatography, and gel permeation chromatography. Moreover, the glass‐transition temperatures and solubility of these copolymers were studied, and this revealing better mixing of poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) (pMeOx) with poly(2‐phenyl‐2‐oxazoline) (pPhOx) than poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline) (pEtOx) with poly(2‐phenyl‐2‐oxazoline) (pPhOx). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of two well‐defined 2,2,5‐trimethyl‐4‐phenyl‐3‐azahexane‐3‐nitroxide‐terminated poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) with narrow dispersity (Mw/Mn = 1.1) has been achieved for the first time. The insertion of the alkoxyamine end groups at one or both ends of poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) (PMEOX) chains has been successfully done using a method based on “terminating reagent method.” These macroinitiators have molecular weights ranging from 6.3 × 103 to 9.4 × 103 g mol?1. In contrast, attempt to introduce the alkoxyamine group at one end of PMEOX chain through the “initiator method” has furnished a mixture of alkoxyamine‐graft polyoxazolines because of rearrangement of alkoxyamine occurring during the synthesis of PMEOX. The macroinitiators obtained by terminating reagent method have been used successfully for polymerization of styrene by nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMP), which exhibited all the expected features of a controlled system. The control of NMP has been proved by a good agreement between theoretical and experimental molecular weights and by narrow dispersity (Mw/Mn < 1.2). Different types of well‐defined multiblock copolymers have been prepared: diblock copolymers poly[(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline)‐b‐(styrene)] (PMEOX‐b‐PS) and, for the first time, triblock copolymers poly[(styrene)‐b‐(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline)‐b‐(styrene)] (PS‐b‐PMEOX‐b‐PS). © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The α,ω‐end‐capped poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) (Cn‐POXZ‐Cn) have been synthesized by a one‐pot process using cationic ring‐opening polymerization with an appropriate initiator and terminating agent. The polymers bearing different alkyl groups C12 and C18 have molecular weight in the range of 2.4 × 103 to 14 × 103 with a small polydispersity index. The solution behavior of the free chains has been analyzed in a nonselective solvent, dichloromethane, by small‐angle neutron scattering and dynamic light scattering. These amphiphilic polymers associate in water to form flower‐like micellar structures. Critical micelle concentrations, investigated by fluorescence technique, are in the range of 0.03–0.5 g L?1 and are dependent on the hydrophilic/lipophilic balance. The structural properties of the aggregates have also been investigated by viscometry. Intrinsic viscosities of these polymers are in the same range as that of the precursors poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) (POXZ) and mono‐functionalized polymers. Large viscosity increase corresponding to intermicellar bridging was observed in the vicinity of the micelle overlap concentration. Addition of hydroxypropyl β‐cyclodextrin (HβCD) has dissociated the aggregates and the intrinsic viscosities of the HβCD‐end‐capped chains have become comparable with the ones of POXZ precursor chains. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters, such as ε‐caprolactone, 1,5‐dioxepan‐2‐one, and racemic lactide using the combination of 3‐phenyl‐1‐propanol as the initiator and triflimide (HNTf2) as the catalyst at room temperature with the [monomer]0/[initiator]0 ratio of 50/1 was investigated. The polymerizations homogeneously proceeded to afford poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), poly(1,5‐dioxepan‐2‐one) (PDXO), and polylactide (PLA) with controlled molecular weights and narrow polydispersity indices. The molecular weight determined from an 1H NMR analysis (PCL, Mn,NMR = 5380; PDXO, Mn,NMR = 5820; PLA, Mn,NMR = 6490) showed good agreement with the calculated values. The 1H NMR and matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry analyses strongly indicated that the obtained compounds were the desired polyesters. The kinetic measurements confirmed the controlled/living nature for the HNTf2‐catalyzed ROP of cyclic esters. A series of functional alcohols, such as propargyl alcohol, 6‐azido‐1‐hexanol, N‐(2‐hydroxyethyl)maleimide, 5‐hexen‐1‐ol, and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate, successfully produced end‐functionalized polyesters. In addition, poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐polyester, poly(δ‐valerolactone)‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone), and poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐polylactide were synthesized using the HNTf2‐catalyzed ROP. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The comparative studies on the miscibility and phase behavior between the blends of linear and star‐shaped poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) with poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) were carried out in this work. The linear poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) was synthesized by the ring opening polymerization of 2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline in the presence of methyl p‐toluenesulfonate (MeOTs) whereas the star‐shaped poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) was synthesized with octa(3‐iodopropyl) polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane [(IC3H6)8Si8O12, OipPOSS] as an octafunctional initiator. The polymers with different topological structures were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. It is found that the star‐shaped poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) was miscible with poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), which was evidenced by single glass‐transition temperature behavior and the equilibrium melting‐point depression. Nonetheless, the blends of linear poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) with PVDF were phase‐separated. The difference in miscibility was ascribed to the topological effect of PMOx macromolecules on the miscibility. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel miktofunctional initiator ( 1 ), 2‐hydroxyethyl 3‐[(2‐bromopropanoyl)oxy]‐2‐{[(2‐bromopropanoyl)oxy]methyl}‐2‐methyl‐propanoate, possessing one initiating site for ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and two initiating sites for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), was synthesized in a three‐step reaction sequence. This initiator was first used in the ROP of ?‐caprolactone, and this led to a corresponding polymer with secondary bromide end groups. The obtained poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) was then used as a macroinitiator for the ATRP of tert‐butyl acrylate or methyl methacrylate, and this resulted in AB2‐type PCL–[poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)]2 or PCL–[poly(methyl methacrylate)]2 miktoarm star polymers with controlled molecular weights and low polydispersities (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight < 1.23) via the ROP–ATRP sequence. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The cationic ring‐opening polymerization of 2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline and 2‐phenyl‐2‐oxazoline was efficiently used using bis(η5‐cyclopentadienyl)dimethyl zirconium, Cp2ZrMe2, or bis(η5tert‐butyl‐cyclopentadienyl)dimethyl hafnium in combination with either tris(pentafluorophenyl)borate or tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate dimethylanilinum salt as initiation systems. The evolution of polymer yield, molecular weight, and molecular weight distribution with time was examined. In addition, the influence of the initiation system and the monomer on the control of the polymerization was studied. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this contribution, we report on the self‐assembly in water of original amphiphilic poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline)‐b‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) copolymers, synthesized by copper‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction. For such purpose, (poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline)) and (poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)) are first prepared by cationic ring‐opening polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization, respectively. Well‐defined polymeric building blocks, ω‐N3‐P(t‐BA) and α‐alkyne‐P(MOx), bearing reactive chain end groups, are accurately characterized by matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time‐of‐flight spectroscopy. Then, P(MOx)nb‐P(t‐BA)m are achieved by polymer–polymer coupling and are fully characterized by diffusion‐ordered NMR spectroscopy and size exclusion chromatography, demonstrating the obtaining of pure amphiphilic copolymers. Consequently, the latter lead to the formation in water of well‐defined monodisperse spherical micelles (RH = 40–60 nm), which are studied by fluorescence spectroscopy, static light scattering, atomic force microscope, and transmission electronic microscopy. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The monomer concentration for the cationic ring‐opening polymerization of 2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline in N,N‐dimethylacetamide was optimized utilizing high‐throughput experimentation methods. Detailed 1H‐NMR spectroscopic investigations were performed to understand the mechanistic aspects of the observed concentration effects. Finally, the improved polymerization concentration was applied for the synthesis of higher molecular weight (> 10,000 Da) poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline)s. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The titanium complexes with one ( 1a , 1b , 1c ) and two ( 2a , 2b ) dialkanolamine ligands were used as initiators in the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone. Titanocanes 1a and 1b initiated living ROP of ε‐caprolactone affording polymers whose number‐average molecular weights (Mn) increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion (Mn ≤ 30,000 g mol?1) in agreement with calculated values, and were inversely proportional to initiator concentration, while the molecular weight distribution stayed narrow throughout the polymerization (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.2 up to 80% monomer conversion). 1H‐NMR and MALDI‐TOF‐MS studies of the obtained poly(ε‐caprolactone)s revealed the presence of an isopropoxy group originated from the initiator at the polymer termini, indicating that the polymerization takes place exclusively at the Ti–OiPr bond of the catalyst. The higher molecular weight polymers (Mn ≤ 70,000 g mol?1) with reasonable MWD (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.6) were synthesized by living ROP of ε‐caprolactone using spirobititanocanes ( 2a , 2b ) and titanocane 1c as initiators. The latter catalysts, according MALDI‐TOF‐MS data, afford poly(ε‐caprolactone)s with almost equal content of α,ω‐dihydroxyl‐ and α‐hydroxyl‐ω(carboxylic acid)‐terminated chains arising due to monomer insertion into “Ti–O” bond of dialkanolamine ligand and from initiation via traces of water, respectively. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(2‐propyl‐oxazoline)s can be prepared by living cationic ring‐opening polymerization of 2‐oxazolines and represent an emerging class of biocompatible polymers exhibiting a lower critical solution temperature in aqueous solution close to body temperature. However, their usability is limited by the irreversibility of the transition due to isothermal crystallization in case of poly(2‐isopropyl‐2‐oxazoline) and the rather low glass transition temperatures (Tg < 45 °C) of poly(2‐n‐propyl‐2‐oxazoline)‐based polymers. The copolymerization of 2‐cyclopropyl‐2‐oxazoline and 2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline presented herein yields gradient copolymers whose cloud point temperatures can be accurately tuned over a broad temperature range by simple variation of the composition. Surprisingly, all copolymers reveal lower Tgs than the corresponding homopolymers ascribed to suppression of interchain interactions. However, it is noteworthy that the copolymers still have Tgs > 45 °C, enabling convenient storage in the fridge for future biomedical formulations. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Well‐defined macromonomers of poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(tert‐butyl methacrylate) were obtained by anionic polymerization induced directly by the carbanion issued from 2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline. When ethylene oxide was added to this carbanion with lithium as the counterion, a new compound able to initiate the polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in an anionically coordinated way was synthesized, and this led to well‐defined poly(ε‐caprolactone) macromonomers. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. One‐step synthesis of block‐graft copolymers by reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) by using a novel initiator was reported. Block‐graft copolymers were synthesized in one‐step by simultaneous RAFT polymerization of n‐butylmethacrylate (nBMA) and ROP of ε‐caprolacton (CL) in the presence of a novel macroinitiator (RAFT‐ROP agent). For this purpose, first epichlorohydrin (EPCH) was polymerized by using H2SO4 via cationic ring‐opening mechanism. And then a novel RAFT‐ROP agent was synthesized by the reaction of potassium ethyl xanthogenate and polyepichlorohydrin (poly‐EPCH). By using the RAFT‐ROP agent, poly[CL‐b‐EPCH‐b‐CL‐(g‐nBMA)] block‐graft copolymers were synthesized. The principal parameters such as monomer concentration, initiator concentration, and polymerization time that affect the one‐step polymerization reaction were evaluated. The block lengths of the block‐graft copolymers were calculated by using 1H‐nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectrum. The block length could be adjusted by varying the monomer and initiator concentrations. The characterization of the products was achieved using 1H NMR, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, gel‐permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, elemental analysis, and fractional precipitation (γ) techniques. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. For the living ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of epoxy monomers, the catalytic activity of organic superbases, tert‐butylimino‐tris(dimethylamino)phosphorane, 1‐tert‐butyl‐2,2,4,4,4‐pentakis(dimethylamino)‐2Λ5,4Λ5‐catenadi(phosphazene), 2,8,9‐triisobutyl‐2,5,8,9‐tetraaza‐1‐phosphabicyclo[3.3.3]undecane, and 1‐tert‐butyl‐4,4,4‐tris(dimethylamino)‐2,2‐bis[tris(dimethylamino)phosphoranylidenamino]‐2Λ5,4Λ5‐catenadi(phosphazene) (t‐Bu‐P4), was confirmed. Among these superbases, only t‐Bu‐P4 showed catalytic activity for the ROP of 1,2‐butylene oxide (BO) to afford poly(1,2‐butylene oxide) (PBO) with predicted molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution. The results of the kinetic, post‐polymerization experiments, and MALDI‐TOF MS measurement revealed that the t‐Bu‐P4‐catalyzed ROP of BO proceeded in a living manner in which the alcohol acted as the initiator. This alcohol/t‐Bu‐P4 system was applicable to the glycidol derivatives, such as benzyl glycidyl ether (BnGE) and t‐butyl glycidyl ether, to afford well‐defined protected polyglycidols. The α‐functionalized polyethers could be obtained using different functionalized initiators, such as 4‐vinylbenzyl alcohol, 5‐hexen‐1‐ol, and 6‐azide‐1‐hexanol. In addition, the well‐defined cyclic‐PBO and PBnGE were successfully synthesized using the combination of t‐Bu‐P4‐catalyzed ROP and click cyclization. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of narrow molecular weight distribution (MWD) polystyrene‐b‐poly[methyl(3,3,3‐trifluoropropyl)siloxane] (PS‐b‐PMTFPS) diblock copolymers were synthesized by the sequential anionic polymerization of styrene and trans‐1,3,5‐trimethyl‐1,3,5‐tris(3′,3′,3′‐trifluoropropyl)cyclotrisiloxane in tetrahydrofuran (THF) with n‐butyllithium as the initiator. The diblock copolymers had narrow MWDs ranging from 1.06 to 1.20 and number‐average molecular weights ranging from 8.2 × 103 to 37.1 × 103. To investigate the properties of the copolymers, diblock copolymers with different weight fractions of poly[methyl(3,3,3‐trifluoropropyl)siloxane] (15.4–78.8 wt %) were prepared. The compositions of the diblock copolymers were calculated from the characteristic proton integrals of 1H NMR spectra. For the anionic ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of 1,3,5‐trimethyl‐1,3,5‐tris(3′,3′,3′‐trifluoropropyl)cyclotrisiloxane (F3) initiated by polystyryllithium, high monomer concentrations could give high polymer yields and good control of MWDs when THF was used as the polymerization solvent. It was speculated that good control of the block copolymerization under the condition of high monomer concentrations was due to the slowdown of the anionic ROP rate of F3 and the steric hindrance of the polystyrene precursors. There was enough time to terminate the ROP of F3 when the polymer yield was high, and good control of block copolymerization could be achieved thereafter. The thermal properties (differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis) were also investigated for the PS‐b‐PMTFPS diblock copolymers. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new graft copolymer, poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐styrene) ‐graft‐poly(?‐caprolactone), was prepared by combination of reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) with coordination‐insertion ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). The copolymerization of styrene (St) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) was carried out at 60 °C in the presence of 2‐phenylprop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate (PPDTB) using AIBN as initiator. The molecular weight of poly (2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐styrene) [poly(HEMA‐co‐St)] increased with the monomer conversion, and the molecular weight distribution was in the range of 1.09 ~ 1.39. The ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ?‐caprolactone was then initiated by the hydroxyl groups of the poly(HEMA‐co‐St) precursors in the presence of stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2). GPC and 1H‐NMR data demonstrated the polymerization courses are under control, and nearly all hydroxyl groups took part in the initiation. The efficiency of grafting was very high. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 5523–5529, 2004  相似文献

The preparation of 3‐miktoarm star terpolymers using nitroxide mediated radical polymerization (NMP), ring opening polymerization (ROP), and click reaction [3 + 2] are carried out by applying two types of one‐pot technique. In the first one‐pot technique, NMP of styrene (St), ROP of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL), and [3 + 2] click reaction (between azide end‐functionalized poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG‐N3)/or azide end‐functionalized poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA‐N3) and alkyne) are carried out in the presence of 2‐(hydroxymethyl)‐2‐methyl‐3‐oxo‐3‐(2‐phenyl‐2‐(2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidin‐1‐yloxy)ethoxy) propyl pent‐4‐ynoate, 2 , as an initiator for 48 h at 125 °C (one‐pot/one‐step). As a second technique, NMP of St and ROP of ε‐CL were conducted using 2 as an initiator for 20 h at 125 °C, and subsequently PEG‐N3 or azide end‐functionalized poly(tert‐butyl acrylate (PtBA‐N3) was added to the polymerization mixture, followed by a click reaction [3 + 2] for 24 h at room temperature (one‐pot/two‐step). The 3‐miktoarm star terpolymers, PEG‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)(PCL)‐PS, PtBA‐PCL‐PS and PMMA‐PCL‐PS, were recovered by a simple precipitation in methanol without further purification. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the synthesis of glyco(poly(2‐oxazoline)s) functionalized with Pt(II) units for targeted tumor applications. To this end, poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline‐block‐2‐(3‐butenyl)‐2‐oxazoline) is modified with thiol‐modified acetyl protected glucose and galactose, respectively, and terpyridine (tpy) units using thiol‐ene photoaddition. Deprotection of the sugars with sodium methoxide and treatment with Pt(COD)Cl2 applying a mild synthesis route yields polymers with monosaccharide targeting moieties and cytotoxic Pt(II) units. The polymers and intermediates are characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and size exclusion chromatography. Subsequently, the hemolytic activity, induction of erythrocyte aggregation as well as the cytotoxicity against mouse fibroblast L929 cells, human embryonic kidney cells HEK 293, and human hepatocytes HepG2 are studied.
