Degradable, amphiphilic graft copolymers of poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐graft‐poly(ethylene oxide), PCL‐g‐PEO, were synthesized via a grafting onto strategy taking advantage of the ketones presented along the backbone of the statistical copolymer poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐co‐(2‐oxepane‐1,5‐dione), (PCL‐co‐OPD). Through the formation of stable ketoxime ether linkages, 3 kDa PEO grafts and p‐methoxybenzyl side chains were incorporated onto the polyester backbone with a high degree of fidelity and efficiency, as verified by NMR spectroscopies and GPC analysis (90% grafting efficiency in some cases). The resulting block graft copolymers displayed significant thermal differences, specifically a depression in the observed melting transition temperature, Tm, in comparison with the parent PCL and PEO polymers. These amphiphilic block graft copolymers undergo self‐assembly in aqueous solution with the P(CL‐co‐OPD‐co‐(OPD‐g‐PEO)) polymer forming spherical micelles and a P(CL‐co‐OPD‐co‐(OPD‐g‐PEO)‐co‐(OPD‐gpMeOBn)) forming cylindrical or rod‐like micelles, as observed by transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Biocompatible and biodegradable ABC and ABCBA triblock and pentablock copolymers composed of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), poly(L ‐lactide) (PLA), and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEO) with controlled molecular weights and low polydispersities were synthesized by a click conjugation between alkyne‐terminated PCL‐b‐PLA and azide‐terminated PEO. Their molecular structures, physicochemical and self‐assembly properties were thoroughly characterized by means of FT‐IR, 1H‐NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy. These copolymers formed microphase‐separated crystalline materials in solid state, where the crystallization of PCL block was greatly restricted by both PEO and PLA blocks. These copolymers self‐assembled into starlike and flowerlike micelles with a spherical morphology, and the micelles were stable over 27 days in aqueous solution at 37 °C. The doxorubicin (DOX) drug‐loaded nanoparticles showed a bigger size with a similar spherical morphology compared to blank nanoparticles, demonstrating a biphasic drug‐release profile in buffer solution and at 37 °C. Moreover, the DOX‐loaded nanoparticles fabricated from the pentablock copolymer sustained a longer drug‐release period (25 days) at pH 7.4 than those of the triblock copolymer. The blank nanoparticles showed good cell viability, whereas the DOX‐loaded nanoparticles killed fewer cells than free DOX, suggesting a controlled drug‐release effect. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel and well‐defined amphiphilic dendrimer‐star copolymer poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐(poly(2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethylmethacrylate‐co‐oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate))2 with Y‐shaped arms were synthesized by the combination of ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The investigation of thermal properties and the analysis of crystalline morphology indicate that the high‐branched structure of dendrimer‐star copolymers with Y‐shaped arms and the presence of amorphous P(MEO2MA‐co‐OEGMA) segments together led to the complete destruction of crystallinity of the PCL segments in the dendrimer‐star copolymer. In addition, the hydrophilicity–hydrophobicity transition of the dendrimer‐star copolymer film can be achieved by altering the external temperatures. The amphiphilic copolymers can self‐assemble into spherical nanomicelles in water. Because the lower critical solution temperature of the copolymers can be adjusted by varying the ratio of MEO2MA and OEGMA, the tunable thermosensitive properties can be observed by transmittance, dynamic laser light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The release rate of model drug chlorambucil from the micelles can be effectively controlled by changing the external temperatures, which indicates that these unique high‐branched amphiphilic copolymers have the potential applications in biomedical field. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The crystallization and melting behavior of a series of poly(glycerol adipate) (PGA) based graft copolymers with either poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), or PCL‐b‐PEO diblock copolymer side chains (i.e., PGA‐g‐PCL, PGA‐g‐PEO, and PGA‐g‐(PCL‐b‐PEO)) was studied using polarized light optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS), and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD). These results were compared with the behavior of the corresponding linear analogs (PEO, PCL, and PCL‐b‐PEO). POM revealed that spherulitic morphology was retained after grafting. However, spherulite radius as well as radial growth rate was significantly smaller in the graft copolymers. Evaluation of isothermal crystallization kinetics by means of the Avrami theory revealed that the nucleation density was much higher in the graft copolymers. The DSC results indicated that the degree of crystallinity decreased strongly upon grafting while the melting temperatures of PGA‐g‐PCL and PGA‐g‐PEO were found to be close to the values of neat PCL and PEO, respectively. This was attributed to the absence of specific thermodynamic interactions, and, additionally, to lamella thicknesses being similar to those of the homopolymers. The latter point was confirmed by SAXS measurements. In case of PCL‐b‐PEO diblock copolymers and PGA‐g‐(PCL‐b‐PEO) graft copolymers, the crystallization behavior and thus the resulting lamellar morphology is more complex, and a suitable model was developed based on a combination of DSC, WAXD, and SAXS data. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Soft tissues, such as fat and skin, present high flexibility and are capable of withstanding large deformation in various functions. Hydrogels that can resemble the mechanical performance of soft tissue are unique and widely demanded. In this study, micellar hydrogels based on biocompatible poly(l ‐glutamic acid) (PLGA) were designed with the enhanced capacity to bear large deformation. Amphipathic triblock copolymer poly(ethylene glycol) acrylate‐co‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐co‐poly (ethylene glycol) acrylate (APEG‐PCL‐APEG) with two terminal double bonds was synthesized and self‐assembled into micelles. At the same time, graft copolymers, poly(l ‐glutamic acid)‐g‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (PLGA‐g‐HEMA) with double bonds were synthesized. APEG‐PCL‐APEG micelles and PLGA‐g‐HEMA were mixed to construct micellar hydrogel via radical polymerization. The crystalline structure and hydrophobic aggregation of copolymers (APEG‐PCL‐APEG) were found to associate with PCL molecular weight. Due to the hydrophobic stress dissipation and crystalline structure of the micelles, the softness and toughness of hydrogels were promoted, exhibiting a 25% increase in ultimate strain. Moreover, the micellar hydrogels were able to load proteins with long‐term retention. In addition, under dynamic mechanical stimulation, the release of proteins could be accelerated. Besides, the micellar hydrogels also supported rabbit adipose‐derived stem cells (rASCs) growth, thus exhibiting the potential toward soft tissue engineering. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Biodegradable, amphiphilic, four‐armed poly(?‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PCL‐b‐PEO) copolymers were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of ethylene oxide in the presence of four‐armed poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) with terminal OH groups with diethylzinc (ZnEt2) as a catalyst. The chemical structure of PCL‐b‐PEO copolymer was confirmed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR. The hydroxyl end groups of the four‐armed PCL were successfully substituted by PEO blocks in the copolymer. The monomodal profile of molecular weight distribution by gel permeation chromatography provided further evidence for the four‐armed architecture of the copolymer. Physicochemical properties of the four‐armed block copolymers differed from their starting four‐armed PCL precursor. The melting points were between those of PCL precursor and linear poly(ethylene glycol). The length of the outer PEO blocks exhibited an obvious effect on the crystallizability of the block copolymer. The degree of swelling of the four‐armed block copolymer increased with PEO length and PEO content. The micelle formation of the four‐armed block copolymer was examined by a fluorescent probe technique, and the existence of the critical micelle concentration (cmc) confirmed the amphiphilic nature of the resulting copolymer. The cmc value increased with increasing PEO length. The absolute cmc values were higher than those for linear amphiphilic block copolymers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of poly(L ‐lysine)s grafted with aliphatic polyesters, poly(L ‐lysine)‐graft‐poly(L ‐lactide) (PLy‐g‐PLLA) and poly(L ‐lysine)‐graft‐poly(?‐caprolactone) (PLy‐ g‐PCL), were synthesized through the Michael addition of poly(L ‐lysine) and maleimido‐terminated poly(L ‐lactide) or poly(?‐caprolactone). The graft density of the polyesters could be adjusted by the variation of the feed ratio of poly(L ‐lysine) to the maleimido‐terminated polyesters. IR spectra of PLy‐g‐PCL showed that the graft copolymers adopted an α‐helix conformation in the solid state. Differential scanning calorimetry measurements of the two kinds of graft copolymers indicated that the glass transition temperature of PLy‐g‐PLLA and the melting temperature of PLy‐g‐PCL increased with the increasing graft density of the polyesters on the backbone of poly(L ‐lysine). Circular dichroism analysis of PLy‐g‐PCL in water demonstrated that the graft copolymer existed in a random‐coil conformation at pH 6 and as an α‐helix at pH 9. In addition, PLy‐g‐PCL was found to form micelles to vesicles in an aqueous medium with the increasing graft density of poly(?‐caprolactone). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New biodegradable/biocompatible ABC block copolymers, poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(glycidol)‐b‐poly(L ,L ‐lactide) (PEO‐PGly‐PLLA), were synthesized. First, PEO‐b‐poly(1‐ethoxyethylglycidol)‐b‐PLLA was synthesized by a successive anionic ring‐opening copolymerization of ethylene oxide, 1‐ethoxyethylglycidyl ether, and L ,L ‐lactide initiated with potassium 2‐methoxyethanolate. In the second step, the 1‐ethoxyethyl blocking groups of 1‐ethoxyethylglycidyl ether were removed at weakly acidic conditions leaving other blocks intact. The resulting copolymers were composed of hydrophilic and hydrophobic segments joined by short polyglycidol blocks with one hydroxyl group in each monomeric unit. These hydroxyl groups may be used for further copolymer transformations. The PEO‐PGly‐PLLA copolymers with a molecular weight of PLLA blocks below 5000 were water‐soluble. Above the critical micellar concentration (ranging from 0.05 to1.0 g/L, depending on the composition of copolymer), copolymers formed macromolecular micelles with a hydrophobic PLLA core and hydrophilic PEO shell. The diameters of the micelles were about 25 nm. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 3750–3760, 2003  相似文献

Chitosan‐based tricomponent copolymers, chitosan‐g‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐(g‐poly(oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate)) (CS‐PCL‐POEGMA, CPP), are synthesized as multifunctional nanocarriers for antitumor therapy. 2‐Bromoisobutyric acid and PCL are first site‐specifically conjugated onto the hydroxy groups of chitosan backbone through conventional coupling chemistry to give CS‐PCL‐Br using sodium dodecyl sulfate–chitosan complex as an organosoluble intermediate. CPP‐PCL‐Br is further used for initiating the single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization of OEGMA in the mixed solvent of dimethyl sulfoxide and lactic acid, yielding CPP. One‐pot reaction of CPP with a small amount of NaN3 under the catalysis of Cu(I)Br/tris‐(2‐dimethylaminoethyl)amine converts the bromo ends of POEGMA grafts to azide functionality, which is used for conjugation of folic acid targeting moiety via azide–alkyne click reactions. The resultant tricomponent copolymers can assemble into spherical micelles with the capacity of coincorporating indocyanine green and Doxorubicin through electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions, respectively. The dual‐agent‐loaded micelles display a combined effect for combating HepG2 cells when irradiated with near‐infrared laser. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numerical self‐consistent field (SCF) lattice computations allow a priori determination of the equilibrium morphology and size of supramolecular structures originating from the self‐assembly of neutral block copolymers in selective solvents. The self‐assembly behavior of poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly‐ε‐caprolactone (PEO‐PCL) block copolymers in water was studied as a function of the block composition, resulting in equilibrium structure and size diagrams. Guided by the theoretical SCF predictions, PEO‐PCL block copolymers of various compositions have been synthesized and assembled in water. The size and morphology of the resulting structures have been characterized by small‐angle X‐ray scattering, cryogenic transmission electron microscopy, and multiangle dynamic light scattering. The experimental results are consistent with the SCF computations. These findings show that SCF is applicable to build up roadmaps for amphiphilic polymers in solution, where control over size and shape are required, which is relevant, for instance, when designing spherical micelles for drug delivery systems © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel type of well‐defined graft copolymer, succinylated chitosan‐O‐poly(oligo(ethylene glycol)methacrylate) (SC‐POEGMA), was developed for pH‐reversible poly(ethylene glyocol) (PEG) shielding of cationic nanocarriers. Chitosan‐O‐POEGMA (CS‐POEGMA) was first synthesized via single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization of oligo(ethylene glyol) methacrylate (OEGMA) using O‐brominated chitosan (CS‐Br) as a macromolecular initiator and Cu(I)Br/1,1,4,7,10,10‐hexamethyltriethylenetetramine as a catalyst. The subsequent succinylation of the chitosan backbone gave the titled copolymers. The content of POEGMA in CS‐POEGMA could be widely modulated by varying the degree of bromination and feed ratio of OEGMA to CS‐Br, without compromising the amino density of chitosan backbone. The hierarchical assembly between SC‐POEGMA and trimethylated chitosan‐O‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (TMC‐PCL) micelles was further studied. At pH 7.4, the stoichiometric interactions between SC and TMC segments to form polyampholyte–polyelectrolyte complexes led to the formation of PEG‐shielded micelles. The hierarchially assembled micelles could be disassembled into the pristine TMC‐PCL micelles, when the medium pH was below a certain pH (pHφ). By varying the degree of succinylation of SC‐POEGMA, the pHφ value could be facilely modulated from 6.5 to 3.5 to meet the needs for specific biomedical applications. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report an efficient way, sequential double click reactions, for the preparation of brush copolymers with AB block‐brush architectures containing polyoxanorbornene (poly (ONB)) backbone and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA) side chains: poly(ONB‐g‐PMMA)‐b‐poly(ONB‐g‐PCL) and poly(ONB‐g‐PtBA)‐b‐poly(ONB‐g‐PCL). The living ROMP of ONB affords the synthesis of well‐defined poly(ONB‐anthracene)20b‐poly (ONB‐azide)5 block copolymer with anthryl and azide pendant groups. Subsequently, well‐defined linear alkyne end‐functionalized PCL (PCL‐alkyne), maleimide end‐functionalized PMMA (PMMA‐MI) and PtBA‐MI were introduced onto the block copolymer via sequential azide‐alkyne and Diels‐Alder click reactions, thus yielding block‐brush copolymers. The molecular weight of block‐brush copolymers was measured via triple detection GPC (TD‐GPC) introducing the experimentally calculated dn/dc values to the software. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Biodegradable amphiphilic ABC Y‐shaped triblock copolymer (MPBC) containing PEG, PBLA, and PCL segments was synthesized via the combination of enzymatic ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of epsilon‐caprolactone, ROP of BLA‐N‐carboxyanhydride and click chemistry, where PEG, PBLA, and PCL are poly(ethylene glycol), poly(benzyl‐l ‐aspartate), and polycaprolactone, respectively. Propynylamine was employed as ROP initiator for the preparation of alkynyl‐terminated PBLA and methyloxy‐PEG with hydroxyl and azide groups at the chain‐end was used as enzymatic ROP initiator for synthesis of monoazido‐midfunctionalized block copolymer mPEG‐b‐PCL. The subsequent click reaction led to the formation of Y‐shaped asymmetric heteroarm terpolymer MPBC. The polymer structures were characterized by different analyses. The MPBC terpolymer self‐assembled into micelles and physically encapsulated drug doxorubicin (DOX) to form DOX‐loaded micelles, which showed good stability and slow drug release. In vitro cytotoxicity study indicated that the MPBC micelles were nontoxic and the DOX‐loaded micelles displayed obvious anticancer activity similar to free DOX against HeLa cells. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Self‐assembly of amphiphilic ABA random triblock copolymers in water serves as a novel approach to create unique structure micelles connected with flexible linkages. The ABA triblock copolymers consist of amphiphilic random copolymers bearing hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) and hydrophobic dodecyl pendants as the A segments and a hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as the middle B segment. The A block is varied in dodecyl methacrylate content of 20%–50% and degree of polymerization (DP) of 100‐200. By controlling the composition and DP of the A block, various architectures can be tailor‐made as micelles in water: PEO‐linked double core unimer micelles, PEO‐looped unimer or dimer micelles, and multichain micelles. Those PEO‐linked or looped micelles further exhibit thermoresponsive solubility in water. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2019 , 57, 313–321  相似文献

A new, efficient method for synthesizing stable nanoparticles with poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) functionalities on the core surface, in which the micellization and crosslinking reactions occur in one pot, has been developed. First, amphiphilic PEO‐b‐PS copolymers were synthesized by reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) radical polymerization of styrene using (PEO)‐based trithiocarbonate as a macro‐RAFT agent. The low molecular weight PEO‐b‐PS copolymer was dissolved in isopropyl alcohol where the block copolymer self‐assembled as core‐shell micelles, and then the core‐shell interface crosslink was performed using divinylbenzene as a crosslinking agent and 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator. The design of the amphiphilic RAFT agent is critical for the successful preparation of core‐shell interface crosslinked micellar nanoparticles, because of RAFT functional groups interconnect PEO and polystyrene blocks. The PEO functionality of the nanoparticles surface was confirmed by 1H NMR and FTIR. The size and morphology of the nanoparticles was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and dynamic laser light scattering analysis. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined in‐chain norbornene‐functionalized poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(?‐caprolactone) copolymers (NB‐PEO‐b‐PCL) were synthesized from a dual clickable containing both hydroxyl‐ and alkyne‐reactive groups, namely heterofunctional norbornene 3‐exo‐(2‐exo‐(hydroxymethyl)norborn‐5‐enyl)methyl hexynoate. A range of NB‐PEO‐b‐PCL copolymers were obtained using a combination of orthogonal organocatalyzed ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and click copper‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC). Ring‐opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of NB‐PEO‐b‐PCL macromonomers using ruthenium‐based Grubbs’ catalysts provides comb‐like and umbrella‐like graft copolymers bearing both PEO and PCL grafts on each monomer unit. Mikto‐arm star A2B2 copolymers were obtained through a new strategy based on thiol–norbornene photoinitiated click chemistry between 1,3‐propanedithiol and NB‐PEO‐b‐PCL. The results demonstrate that in‐chain NB‐PEO‐b‐PCL copolymers can be used as a platform to prepare mikto‐arm star, umbrella‐, and comb‐like graft copolymers. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. A novel aromatic acetal‐based acid‐labile monomer 2‐phenyl‐5‐ethyl‐5‐acryloxymethyl‐1,3‐dioxacyclohexane (HEDPA) was synthesized and polymerized by reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization using alkynyl functional chain transfer agent (CTA‐Alk). Afterward, a series of amphiphilic diblock copolymers composed of fixed hydrophobic poly(2‐phenyl‐5‐ethyl‐5‐acryloxymethyl‐1,3‐dioxacyclohexane) (PDAEP) segments and various lengths of hydrophilic mPEG segments were prepared through click reaction between alkynyl‐terminated PDAEP and azido‐terminated mPEG. The self‐assembly behaviors of the diblock copolymers were investigated by dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), fluorescence spectroscopy, and 1H NMR. These results indicated that the diblock copolymers could self‐assemble into nano‐sized micelles with PDAEP cores and PEG coronas in aqueous solution. DLS, fluorescence spectroscopy and UV–vis spectroscopy were used to monitor the pH‐triggered assembly/disassembly transition of the micelles. These results showed that the assembly/disassembly transition behaviors of the diblock copolymers micelles can be adjusted by changing the lengths of the mPEG segments. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Symmetric reduction‐responsive amphiphilic comblike copolymers mid‐disulfide‐functionalized comblike copolymers with alternating copolymer comprised of styrenic unit and N‐(2‐hydroxyethyl) maleimide (HEMI) unit (poly(St‐alt‐HEMI)) backbones and alternating PEG and PCL side chains (S‐CP(PEG‐alt‐PCL)) with poly(St‐alt‐HEMI) backbones and alternating poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) side chains were synthesized and used as nanocarriers for in vitro release of doxorubicin. The target copolymers with predetermined molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 1.15–1.20) were synthesized by reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) copolymerization of vinylbenzyl‐terminated PEG and N‐(2‐hydroxyethyl) maleimide mediated by a disulfide‐functionalized RAFT agent S‐CPDB, and followed by ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone. When compared with linear block copolymer comprised of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) segments (PEG‐b‐PCL) copolymers, comblike copolymers with similar PCL contents usually exhibited decreased crystallization temperature, melting temperature, and degree of crystallinity, indicating the significant influence of copolymer architecture on physicochemical properties. Dynamic light scattering measurements revealed that comblike copolymers were liable to self‐assemble into aggregates involving vesicles and micelles with average diameter in the range of 56–226 nm and particle size distribution ranging between 0.07 and 0.20. In contrast to linear copolymer aggregates, comblike copolymer aggregates with similar compositions were of improved storage stability and enhanced drug‐loading efficiency. In vitro drug release confirmed the disulfide‐linked comblike copolymer aggregates could rapidly release the encapsulated drug when triggered by 10 mM DL ‐dithiothreitol. These reduction‐sensitive, biocompatible, and biodegradable aggregates have a potential as controlled delivery vehicles. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Novel and well‐defined amphiphilic H‐shaped terpolymers poly(L‐lactide)‐block‐(poly(2‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) ‐block‐)poly(ε‐caprolactone)(‐block‐poly(2‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate)) ‐b‐poly(L‐lactide) (PLLA‐b‐(PDMAEMA‐b‐)PCL(‐b‐PDMAEMA)‐b‐PLLA) were synthesized by the combination of ring‐opening polymerization, atom transfer radical polymerization, and click chemistry. The H‐shaped amphiphilic terpolymers can self‐assemble into spherical nano‐micelles in water. Because of the dually responsive (temperature and pH) properties of PDMAEMA segments, the hydrodynamic radius of the micelles of the H‐shaped terpolymer solution can be adjusted by altering the environmental temperature or pH values. The thermal properties investigation and the crystalline morphology analysis indicate that the branched structure of the H‐shaped terpolymers and the presence of amorphous PDMAEMA segments together led to the obvious decrease of PCL segments and the complete destruction of crystallinity of the PLLA segments in the H‐shaped terpolymers. In addition, the H‐shaped terpolymer film has better hydrophilicity than linear PCL or triblock polymer of PLLA‐b‐(N3? )PCL(? N3)‐b‐PLLA, due to the decrease or destruction of the crystallizability of the PCL or PLLA in the H‐shaped terpolymer and the presence of hydrophilic PDMAEMA segments. These unique H‐shaped amphiphilic terpolymers composed of biodegradable and biocompatible PCL and PLLA components and intelligent and biocompatible PDMAEMA component will have the potential applications in biomedical fields. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(ethylene imine)‐graft‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PEI‐g‐PEO) copolymers were synthesized via Michael addition reaction between acryl‐terminated poly(ethylene oxide) methyl ether (PEO) and poly(ethylene imine) (PEI). The brush‐like copolymers were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. It is found that the crystallinity of the PEO side chains in the copolymers remained unaffected by the PEI backbone whereas the crystal structure of PEO side chains was altered to some extent by the PEI backbone. The crystallization behavior of PEO blocks in the copolymers suggests that the bush‐shaped copolymers are microphase‐separated in the molten state. The PEO side chains of the copolymers were selectively complexed with α‐cyclodextrin (α‐CD) to afford hydrophobic side chains (i.e., PEO/α‐CD inclusion complexes). The X‐ray diffraction (XRD) shows that the inclusion complexes (ICs) of the PEO side chains displayed a channel‐type crystalline structure. It is identified that the stoichiometry of the inclusion complexation of the PEI‐g‐PEO with α‐CD is close to that of the control PEO with α‐CD. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
