The comparative studies on the miscibility and phase behavior between the blends of linear and star‐shaped poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) with poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) were carried out in this work. The linear poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) was synthesized by the ring opening polymerization of 2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline in the presence of methyl p‐toluenesulfonate (MeOTs) whereas the star‐shaped poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) was synthesized with octa(3‐iodopropyl) polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane [(IC3H6)8Si8O12, OipPOSS] as an octafunctional initiator. The polymers with different topological structures were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. It is found that the star‐shaped poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) was miscible with poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), which was evidenced by single glass‐transition temperature behavior and the equilibrium melting‐point depression. Nonetheless, the blends of linear poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) with PVDF were phase‐separated. The difference in miscibility was ascribed to the topological effect of PMOx macromolecules on the miscibility. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The radical co‐ and terpolymerization of perfluoro(4‐methyl‐3,6‐dioxaoct‐7‐ene) sulfonyl fluoride (PFSVE) with 1,1‐difluoroethylene (or vinylidene fluoride, VDF or VF2), hexafluoropropene (HFP), chlorotrifluoroethylene (CTFE), and bromotrifluoroethylene (BrTFE) is presented. Although PFSVE could not homopolymerize under radical initiation, it could be copolymerized in solution under a radical initiator with VDF, while its copolymerizations with HFP or CTFE led to oligomers in low yields. The terpolymerizations of PFSVE with VDF and HFP, with VDF and CTFE, or with VDF and BrTFE also led to original fluorinated terpolymers bearing sulfonyl fluoride side‐groups. The conditions of co‐ and terpolymerization were optimized in terms of the nature and the amount of the radical initiators, of the nature of solvents (fluorinated or nonhalogenated), and of the initial amounts of fluorinated comonomers. The different mol % contents of comonomers in the co‐ and terpolymers were assessed by 19F NMR spectroscopy. A wide range of co‐ and terpolymers containing mol % of PFSVE functional monomer ranging from 10 to 70% was produced. The kinetics of copolymerization of VDF with PFSVE enabled to assess the reactivity ratios of both comonomers: rVDF = 0.57 ± 0.15 and rPFSVE = 0.07 ± 0.04 at 120 °C. The thermal and physicochemical properties were also studied. Moreover, the glass transition temperatures (Tgs) of poly(VDF‐co‐PFSVE) copolymers containing different amounts of VDF and PFSVE were determined and the theoretical Tg of poly(PFSVE) homopolymer was deduced. Then, the hydrolysis of the ? SO2F into ? SO3H function was investigated and enabled the synthesis of fluorinated copolymers bearing sulfonic acid functions. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Salt‐containing membranes based on polymethacrylates having poly(ethylene carbonate‐co‐ethylene oxide) side chains, as well as their blends with poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF‐HFP), have been studied. Self‐supportive ion conductive membranes were prepared by casting films of methacrylate functional poly(ethylene carbonate‐co‐ethylene oxide) macromonomers containing lithium bis(trifluorosulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) salt, followed by irradiation with UV‐light to polymerize the methacrylate units in situ. Homogenous electrolyte membranes based on the polymerized macromonomers showed a conductivity of 6.3 × 10?6 S cm?1 at 20 °C. The preparation of polymer blends, by the addition of PVDF‐HFP to the electrolytes, was found to greatly improve the mechanical properties. However, the addition led to an increase of the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the ion conductive phase by ~5 °C. The conductivity of the blend membranes was thus lower in relation to the corresponding homogeneous polymer electrolytes, and 2.5 × 10?6 S cm?1 was recorded for a membrane containing 10 wt % PVDF‐HFP at 20 °C. Increasing the salt concentration in the blend membranes was found to increase the Tg of the ion conductive component and decrease the propensity for the crystallization of the PVDF‐HFP component. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Preparation of functional fluoromaterials through chemical modification of traditional fluoropolymers has been recognized as an economic and convenient strategy to expand the application areas of fluoropolymers. Poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐chlorotrifluoroethylene)‐grafted‐polyacrylonitrile (P(VDF‐co‐CTFE)‐g‐PAN) has been successfully synthesized via single electron transfer–living radical polymerization (SET–LRP) process initiated with macroinitiator P(VDF‐co‐CTFE) in the presence of trace amount of Cu(0)/tris(2(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine (Me6‐TREN) in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) at ambient temperature. The typical side reactions happened on P(VDF‐co‐CTFE) induced by the nitrogen‐containing solvents and high reaction temperature in atom transfer radical polymerization process could be avoided in SET–LRP process by using the mild reaction conditions. Well‐controlled polymerization features were observed under varied reaction conditions including the different reaction temperature, catalyst concentration, as well as monomer amount in feed. An induction period of 0.5–1.0 h in the polymerization procedure was observed at low temperature, which may be attributed to the Cu2O from the surface of the Cu(0) powder. When Cu(0) catalyst is activated, the introduction period is eliminated. The polymerization rates were decelerated by adding excessive Me6‐TREN for the formation of more stable CuCl2/(Me6‐TREN)2. The structure of P(VDF‐co‐CTFE)‐g‐PAN was demonstrated by FTIR, NMR, DSC, and TGA. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

A series of 2,6‐bis(imino)pyridines, as common ligands for late transition metal catalyst in ethylene coordination polymerization, were successfully employed in single‐electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) by using poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐chlorotrifluoroethylene) (P(VDF‐co‐CTFE)) as macroinitiator with low concentration of copper catalyst under relative mild‐reaction conditions. Well‐controlled polymerization features were observed under varied reaction conditions including reaction temperature, catalyst concentration, as well as monomer amount in feed. The typical side reactions including the chain‐transfer reaction and dehydrochlorination reaction happened on P(VDF‐co‐CTFE) in atom‐transfer radical polymerization process were avoided in current system. The relationship between the catalytic activity and the chemical structure of 2,6‐bis(imino)pyridine ligands was investigated by comparing both the electrochemical properties of Cu(II)/2,6‐bis(imino)pyridine and the kinetic results of SET‐LRP of MMA catalyzed with different ligands. The substitute groups onto N‐binding sites with proper steric bulk and electron donating are desirable for both high‐propagation reaction rate and C? Cl bonds activation capability on P(VDF‐co‐CTFE). The catalytic activity of Cu(0)/2,6‐bis(imino)pyridines is comparable with Cu(0)/2,2′‐bipyridine under the consistent reaction conditions. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Polymer blend membranes have been obtained consisting of a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic polymers distributed in co‐continuous phases. In order to obtain stable membranes in aqueous environments, the hydrophilic phase is formed by a poly(hydrohyethyl acrylate), PHEA, network while the hydrophobic phase is formed by poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐trifluoroethylene) P(VDF‐TrFE). To obtain the composites, in a first stage, P(VDF‐TrFE) is blended with poly(ethylene oxyde) (PEO), the latter used as sacrificial porogen. P(VDF‐TrFE)/PEO blend membranes were prepared by solvent casting at 70°C followed by cooling to room temperature. Then PEO is removed from the membrane by immersion in water obtaining a P(VDF‐TrFE) porous membrane. After removing of the PEO polymer, a P(VDF‐TrFE) membrane results in which pores are collapsed. Nevertheless the pores reopen when a mixture of hydroxethyl acrylate (HEA) monomer, ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (as crosslinker) and ethanol (as diluent) is absorbed in the membrane and subsequent polymerization yields hybrid hydrophilic/hydrophobic membranes with controlled porosity. The membranes are thus suitable for lithium‐ion battery separator membranes and/or biostable supports for cell culture in biomedical applications. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The monomers 2‐methyl‐2‐oxazine (MeOZI), 2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazine (EtOZI), and 2‐n‐propyl‐2‐oxazine (nPropOZI) were synthesized and polymerized via the living cationic ring‐opening polymerization (CROP) under microwave‐assisted conditions. pEtOZI and pnPropOZI were found to be thermoresponsive, exhibiting LCST behavior in water and their cloud point temperatures (TCP) are lower than for poly(2‐oxazoline)s with similar side chains. However, comparison of poly(2‐oxazine) and poly(2‐oxazoline)s isomers reveals that poly(2‐oxazine)s are more water soluble, indicating that the side chain has a stronger impact on polymer solubility than the main chain. In conclusion, variations of both the side chains and the main chains of the poly(cyclic imino ether)s resulted in a series of distinct homopolymers with tunable TCP.  相似文献

A series of narrowly distributed poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) with molecular weight ranging from 8 × 104 to 2.3 × 107 g/mol were prepared by a combination of free radical polymerization and fractional precipitation. An ultrasensitive differential scanning calorimetry was used to study the effect of molecular weight on the thermal volume transition of these PNIPAM samples. The specific heat peak of the transition temperature (Tp,0) was obtained by extrapolation to zero heating rate (HR) because of the linear dependence of the transition temperature (Tp) on the HR. The relation between Tp,0 and the degree of polymerization (N) was investigated. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 48: 1388–1393, 2010  相似文献

Polymerizations of higher α‐olefins, 1‐pentene, 1‐hexene, 1‐octene, and 1‐decene were carried out at 30 °C in toluene by using highly isospecific rac‐Me2Si(1‐C5H2‐2‐CH3‐4‐t Bu)2Zr(NMe2)2 (rac‐1) compound in the presence of Al(iBu)3/[CPh3][B(C6F5)4] as a cocatalyst formulation. Both the bulkiness of monomer and the lateral size of polymer influenced the activity of polymerization. The larger lateral of polymer chain opens the π‐ligand of active site wide and favors the insertion of monomer, while the large size of monomer inserts itself into polymer chain more difficultly due to the steric hindrance. Highly isotactic poly(α‐olefin)s of high molecular weight (MW) were produced. The MW decreased from polypropylene to poly(1‐hexene), and then increased from poly(1‐hexene) to poly(1‐decene). The isotacticity (as [mm] triad) of the polymer decreased with the increased lateral size in the order: poly(1‐pentene) > poly(1‐hexene) > poly(1‐octene) > poly(1‐decene). The similar dependence of the lateral size on the melting point of polymer was recorded by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). 1H NMR analysis showed that vinylidene group resulting from β‐H elimination and saturated methyl groups resulting from chain transfer to cocatalyst are the main end groups of polymer chain. The vinylidene and internal double bonds are also identified by Raman spectroscopy. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 1687–1697, 2000  相似文献

A series of new poly(imide‐hydrazide)s and poly(amide‐imide‐hydrazide)s were obtained by the direct polycondensation of N‐[p‐(or m‐)carboxyphenyl]trimellitimide (p‐ or m‐CPTMI) with terephthalic dihydrazide (TPH), isophthalic dihydrazide (IPH), and p‐aminobenzhydrazide (p‐ABH) by means of diphenyl phosphite and pyridine in the N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) solutions containing dissolved CaCl2. The resulting hydrazide‐containing polymers exhibited inherent viscosities in the 0.15–0.96 dL/g range. Except for that derived from p‐CPTMI with TPH or p‐ABH, the other hydrazide copolymers were readily soluble in polar solvents such as NMP and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). As evidenced by X‐ray diffraction patterns, the hydrazide copolymer obtained from TPH showed a moderate level of crystallinity, whereas the others were amorphous in nature. Most of the amorphous hydrazide copolymers formed flexible and tough films by solvent casting. The amorphous hydrazide copolymers had glass‐transition temperatures (Tg) between 187 and 233 °C. All hydrazide copolymers could be thermally converted into the corresponding oxadiazole copolymers approximately in the region of 250–400 °C, as evidenced by the DSC thermograms. The oxadiazole copolymers showed a significantly decreased solubility when compared to their respective hydrazide precursors. They exhibited Tg's of 264–302 °C and did not show dramatic weight loss before 400 °C in air or nitrogen. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 1599–1608, 2000  相似文献

A novel nucleating agent (TBC8‐t), self‐assembled with ptert‐butylcalix[8]arene (TBC8) and toluene, was used to manipulate the crystallization behavior of poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA). Toluene molecules were used to adjust the crystallization structure of TBC8. Differential scanning calorimetry results show that the crystallization peak temperature (Tc) and crystallization rate (ΔHc/time) of PLLA nucleated with TBC8‐t are 132.3 °C and 0.24 J/gs, respectively, which are much higher than that with conventional nucleating agent‐talc (Tc = 119.3 °C, ΔHc/time = 0.13 J/gs). The results of polarized optical microscopy demonstrate that TBC8‐t could greatly enhance the crystallization rate of PLLA by increasing the nucleation rate rather than crystal growth rate. Along with an improvement of the crystallization rate, the crystalline morphology of PLLA is also affected by TBC8‐t. The addition of TBC8‐t transforms most of the original spherulite crystals into sheaf‐like crystals. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 48: 1235–1243, 2010  相似文献

Block copolymers based on poly(vinylidene fluoride), PVDF, and a series of poly(aromatic sulfonate) sequences were synthesized from controlled radical polymerizations (CRPs). According to the aromatic monomers, appropriate techniques of CRP were chosen: either iodine transfer polymerization (ITP) or atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) from PVDF‐I macromolecular chain transfer agents (CTAs) or PVDF‐CCl3 macroinitiator, respectively. These precursors were produced either by ITP of VDF with C6F13I or by radical telomerization of VDF with chloroform, respectively. Poly(vinylidene fluoride)‐b‐poly(sodium styrene sulfonate), PVDF‐b‐PSSS, block copolymers were produced from both techniques via a direct polymerization of sodium styrene sulfonate (SSS) monomer or an indirect way with the use of styrene sulfonate ethyl ester (SSE) as a protected monomer. Although the reaction led to block copolymers, the kinetics of ITP of SSS showed that PVDF‐I macromolecular CTAs were not totally efficient because a limitation of the CTA consumption (56%) was observed. This was probably explained by both the low activity of the CTA (that contained inefficient PVDF‐CF2CH2? I) and a fast propagation rate of the monomer. That behavior was also noted in the ITP of SSE. On the other hand, ATRP of SSS initiated by PVDF‐CCl3 was more controlled up to 50% of conversion leading to PVDF‐b‐PSSS block copolymer with an average number molar mass of 6000 g·mol?1. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The liquid–liquid phase‐separation (LLPS) behavior of poly(n‐methyl methacrylimide)/poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PMMI/PVDF) blend was studied by using small‐angle laser light scattering (SALLS) and phase contrast microscopy (PCM). The cloud point (Tc) of PMMI/PVDF blend was obtained using SALLS at the heating rate of 1 °C min?1 and it was found that PMMI/PVDF exhibited a low critical solution temperature (LCST) behavior similar to that of PMMA/PVDF. Moreover, Tc of PMMI/PVDF is higher than its melting temperature (Tm) and a large temperature gap between Tc and Tm exists. At the early phase‐separation stage, the apparent diffusion coefficient (Dapp) and the product (2Mk) of the molecules mobility coefficient (M) and the energy gradient coefficient (k) arising from contributions of composition gradient to the energy for PMMI/PVDF (50/50 wt) blend were calculated on the basis of linearized Cahn‐Hilliard‐Cook theory. The kinetic results showed that LLPS of PMMI/PVDF blends followed the spinodal decomposition (SD) mechanism. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Porous membranes of poly(vinylidene fluoride‐trifluoroethylene) with different contents of montmorillonite (MMT) particles were prepared. The filler content does not affect the porous morphology but leads to an increase in the average pore size, porosity and electrolyte uptake up to 16 μm, 85 % and 325 %, respectively, for a membrane with 16 wt% of MMT particles. The mechanical properties, ionic conductivity and its temperature stability are improved by the presence of clays. The electrochemical stability reveals a stable operation window up to 5 V. The overall characteristics of the membranes for battery separators are optimized for the 4 wt% MMT filler content.  相似文献

A blend of two biodegradable and semi‐crystalline polymers, poly (L‐lactic acid) (PLLA; 70 wt%) and poly (butylene succinate‐co‐L‐lactate) (PBSL; 30 wt%), was prepared in the presence of various polyethylene oxide‐polypropylene oxide‐polyethylene oxide (PEO‐PPO‐PEO) triblock copolymer contents (0.5, 1, 2 wt%). Mechanical, thermal properties, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis of the blends were investigated. It was found that the addition of copolymer to PLLA/PBSL improved the fracture toughness of the blends as shown by mode I fracture energies. It was supported by morphological analysis where the brittle deformation behavior of PLLA changed to ductile deformation with the presence of elongated fibril structure in the blend with copolymer system. The glass transition temperature (Tg), melting temperature (Tm) of PLLA, and PBSL shift‐closed together indicated that some compatibility exists in the blends. In short, PEO‐PPO‐PEO could be used as compatibilizer to improve the toughness and compatibility of the PLLA/PBSL blends. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Substituent‐induced electroluminescence polymers—poly[2‐(2‐dimethyldodecylsilylphenyl)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] [(o‐R3Si)PhPPV], poly[2‐(3‐dimethyldodecylsilylphenyl)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] [(m‐R3Si)PhPPV], and poly[2‐(4‐dimethyldodecylsilylphenyl)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] [(p‐R3Si)PhPPV]—were synthesized according to the Gilch polymerization method. The band gap and spectroscopic data were tuned by the dimethyldodecylsilyl substituent being changed from the ortho position to the para position in the phenyl side group along the polymer backbone. The weight‐average molecular weights and polydispersities were 8.0–96 × 104 and 3.0–3.4, respectively. The maximum photoluminescence wavelengths for (o‐R3Si)PhPPV, (m‐R3Si)PhPPV, and (p‐R3Si)PhPPV appeared around 500–530 nm in the green emission region. Double‐layer light‐emitting diodes with an indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)/polymer/Al configuration were fabricated with these polymers. The turn‐on voltages and the maximum brightness of (o‐R3Si)PhPPV, (m‐R3Si)PhPPV, and (p‐R3Si)PhPPV were 6.5–8.7 V and 1986–5895 cd/m2, respectively. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. End‐functionalized poly(phenylacetylene)s were synthesized by the polymerization of phenylacetylene (PA) using the well‐defined palladium catalysts represented as [(dppf)PdBr(R)] {dppf = 1,1′‐bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene}. The Pd catalysts having a series of R groups such as o‐tolyl, mesityl, C(Ph)?CPh2, C6H4o‐CH2OH, C6H4p‐CN, and C6H4p‐NO2 in conjunction with silver triflate polymerized PA to give end‐functionalized poly(PA)s bearing the corresponding R groups in high yields. The results of IR and NMR spectroscopies and MALDI‐TOF mass analyses proved the introduction of these R groups at one end of each polymer chain. The poly(PA) bearing a hydroxy end group was applied as a macroinitiator to the synthesis of a block copolymer composed of poly(PA) and poly(β‐propiolactone) moieties. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Phenyl methacrylate and 1‐naphthyl methacrylate were polymerized in microemulsions using stearyltrimethylammonium chloride, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, and a mixture of nonionic Triton surfactants to form latexes that were 20–30 nm in diameter. A temperature of 70 °C was needed to obtain polymers using thermal initiation. The tacticities of poly(phenyl methacrylate) (PPhMA) (55% rr) and poly(1‐naphthyl methacrylate) (P‐1‐NM) (47% rr) were the same as those of the polymers prepared in toluene solutions. The weight average molecular weights were 1 × 106 and 5 × 105 g/mol for PPhMA and P‐1‐NM prepared in microemulsions with very broad distributions. PPhMA samples from microemulsions and solution had the same Tg = 127 °C. P‐1‐NM from microemulsions had Tg = 145–147 °C compared with Tg = 142 °C for P‐1‐NM from solution. The molecular weights and the glass‐transition temperatures of both PPhMA and P‐1‐NM from microemulsions are substantially higher than any previously reported. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Seven different fluoropolymer films were used as matrix materials for radiation‐grafted ion‐exchange membranes. The crystallinity and preferred orientation of these membranes were studied with wide‐angle X‐ray scattering, and the lamellar structure of the membranes was examined with small‐angle X‐ray scattering. The crystallinity of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)‐based matrix materials varied between 57 and 40%, and the crystallinity of the sulfonated samples varied between 34 and 23%. The lamellar periods of PVDF‐based matrix materials were about 115 Å, and the lamellar periods of poly(ethylene‐alt‐tetrafluoroethylene) and poly(tetrafluoroethylene‐co‐hexafluoropropylene) were 250 and 212 Å, respectively. When the samples were grafted, the lamellar periods increased. Correlation function analysis showed very clearly that the long‐range order decreased because of grafting and sulfonation processes. For those samples that showed good proton conductivity, the lamellar period also increased because of sulfonation. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Graft copolymers comprising poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐chlorotrifluoroethylene) backbone and poly(styrene sulfonic acid) side chains, i.e. P(VDF‐co‐CTFE)‐g‐PSSA were synthesized using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) for composite nanofiltration (NF) membranes. Direct initiation of the secondary chlorinated site of CTFE units facilitates grafting of PSSA, as revealed by FT‐IR spectroscopy. The successful “grafting from” method and the microphase‐separated structure of the graft copolymer were confirmed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Wide angle X‐ray scattering (WAXS) also showed the decrease in the crystallinity of P(VDF‐co‐CTFE) upon graft copolymerization. Composite NF membranes were prepared from P(VDF‐co‐CTFE)‐g‐PSSA as a top layer coated onto P(VDF‐co‐CTFE) ultrafiltration support membrane. Both the rejections and the flux of composite membranes increased with increasing PSSA concentration due to the increase in SO3H groups and membrane hydrophilicity, as supported by contact angle measurement. The rejections of NF membranes containing 47 wt% of PSSA were 83% for Na2SO4 and 28% for NaCl, and the solution flux were 18 and 32 L/m2 hr, respectively, at 0.3 MPa pressure.
