Combination of coordination polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was applied to a novel synthesis of rod‐coil block copolymers. The procedure included the following steps: (1) monoesterification reaction of ethylene glycol with 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide yielded a α‐bromo, ω‐hydroxy bifunctional initiator, (2) CpTiCl3 (bifunctional initiator) catalyst was prepared from a mixture of trichlorocyclopentadienyl titanium (CpTiCl3) and bifunctional initiator. Coordination polymerization of n‐butyl isocyanate initiated by such catalyst provided a well‐defined macroinitiator, poly(n‐butyl isocyanate)‐Br (PBIC‐Br), and (3) ATRP method of vinyl monomers using PBIC‐Br provided rod (PBIC)‐coil block copolymers. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A general method for the controlled synthesis of polylactide in solution and from solid supports is presented. The evaluation of stannous(II) trifluoromethane sulfonate [Sn(OTf)2] and scandium(III) trifluoromethane sulfonate [Sc(OTf)3] as catalysts for the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of L ‐, D ‐, and L ,D ‐lactide is described as a route to polylactide using mild and highly selective conditions. These triflate catalysts must be used in conjunction with a nucleophilic compound such as an alcohol that is the actual initiating species via the active metal alkoxide species. Consistent with this process, 1H NMR analysis revealed that the α‐chain‐end bears the ester from the initiating alcohol, and upon hydrolysis of the active metal alkoxide chain end, a ω‐hydroxyl chain end was clearly detected. Polymers of predictable molecular weights and narrow polydispersities were obtained in high yields in accordance with a controlled polymerization process. The addition of base either as a solvent or additive significantly enhanced the polymerization rate with minimal loss to the polymerization control. The ROP of lactide isomers from an initiator, HO(CH2CH2O)3(CH2)11SH, self‐assembled onto a gold surface using Sn(OTf)2 produced polylactide brushes under living conditions and provides the opportunity to prepare stereoregular or chiral surfaces by polymerization of enantiomerically pure monomers. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A new azide‐functionalized xanthate, S‐(4‐azidomethylbenzyl) O‐(2‐methoxyethyl) xanthate, was synthesized and used to mediate the reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization of vinyl acetate. The polymerization was demonstrated to be controlled, and well‐defined PVAc with α‐azide, ω‐xanthate groups were obtained, the xanthate groups of which were further removed by radical‐induced reduction with lauroyl peroxide in the presence of excess 2‐propanol. Hydrolysis of α‐azide‐terminated PVAc (N3‐PVAc) led to the formation of the corresponding α‐azide‐terminated PVA (N3‐PVA). Finally, end‐modification of N3‐PVA by click chemistry with alkyne‐end‐capped poly(caprolactone) (A‐PCL), alkynyl‐mannose, and alkynyl‐pyrene was carried out to obtain a new block copolymer PCL‐b‐PVA, and two PVA with mannose or pyrene as the end functional groups. The polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and FTIR. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 4494–4504, 2009  相似文献

The living radical polymerization of styrene in bulk was successfully performed with a tetraethylthiuram disulfide/copper bromide/2,2′‐bipyridine (bpy) initiating system. The initiator Et2NCS2Br and the catalyst cuprous bromide (CuBr) were produced from the reactants in the system through in situ atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). A plot of natural logarithm of the ratio of original monomer concentration to monomer concentration at present, ln([M]0/[M]) versus time gave a straight line, indicating that the kinetics was first‐order. The number‐average molecular weight from gel permeation chromatography (GPC) of obtained polystyrenes did not agree well with the calculated number‐average molecular weight but did correspond to a 0.5 initiator efficiency. The polydispersity index (i.e., the weight‐average molecular weight divided by the number‐average molecular weight) of obtained polymers was as low as 1.30. The resulting polystyrene with α‐diethyldithiocarbamate and ω‐Br end groups could initiate methyl methacrylate polymerization in the presence of CuBr/bpy or cuprous chloride/bpy complex catalyst through a conventional ATRP process. The block polymer was characterized with GPC, 1H NMR, and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 39: 4001–4008, 2001  相似文献

In this contribution, we report on the self‐assembly in water of original amphiphilic poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline)‐b‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) copolymers, synthesized by copper‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction. For such purpose, (poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline)) and (poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)) are first prepared by cationic ring‐opening polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization, respectively. Well‐defined polymeric building blocks, ω‐N3‐P(t‐BA) and α‐alkyne‐P(MOx), bearing reactive chain end groups, are accurately characterized by matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time‐of‐flight spectroscopy. Then, P(MOx)nb‐P(t‐BA)m are achieved by polymer–polymer coupling and are fully characterized by diffusion‐ordered NMR spectroscopy and size exclusion chromatography, demonstrating the obtaining of pure amphiphilic copolymers. Consequently, the latter lead to the formation in water of well‐defined monodisperse spherical micelles (RH = 40–60 nm), which are studied by fluorescence spectroscopy, static light scattering, atomic force microscope, and transmission electronic microscopy. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyethylene (PE)‐based 3‐ and 4‐miktoarm star [PE(PCL)2, PE(PCL)3] and H‐type [(PCL)2PE(PCL)2] block copolymers [polycaprolactone (PCL)] were synthesized by a combination of polyhomologation, chlorosilane chemistry, and ring opening polymerization (ROP). The following steps were used for the synthesis of the miktoarm stars: (a) reaction of a hydroxy‐terminated polyethylene (PE‐OH), prepared by polyhomologation of dimethylsulfoxonium methylide with a monofunctional boron initiator followed by oxidation/hydrolysis, with chloromethyl(methyl)dimethoxysilane or chloromethyltrimethoxysilane; (b) hydrolysis of the produced ω‐di(tri)methoxysilyl‐polyethylenes to afford ω‐dihydroxy‐polyethylene (difunctional initiator) and ω‐trihydroxy‐polyethylene (trifunctional initiator); and (c) ROP of ɛ‐caprolactone with the difunctional (3‐miktoarm star) or trifunctional macroinitiator (4‐miktoarm star), in the presence of 1‐tert‐butyl‐2,2,4,4,4‐pentakis(dimethylamino)‐2λ5,4λ5‐catenadi(phosphazene) (t‐BuP2). The H‐type block copolymers were synthesized using the same strategy, but with a difunctional polyhomologation initiator. All intermediates and final products were characterized by HT‐GPC, 1H NMR and FTIR analyses. Thermal properties of the PE precursors and all final products were investigated by DSC and TGA. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2018 , 56, 2129–2136  相似文献

In order to provide an active end group of hydroxyl group and improve the hydrophility of poly(γ‐benzyl‐L‐glutamate) (PBLG), ethanolamine (EA) was utilized as the initiator to initiate N‐carboxy‐γ‐benzyl‐L‐glutamate anhydride (Bz‐L‐Glu‐NCA) polymerization. The prepared hydroxyl‐terminated PBLG (HO‐PBLG) was fully characterized by FTIR, 1H‐NMR, XPS, XRD, DSC, and GPC. The results of FTIR and XRD indicated that the chain conformation of HO‐PBLG predominantly presented α‐helix. The water contact angle was measured to confirm that the hydrophilicity was improved by the introduction of hydroxyl group. Chondrocytes studies showed that the cells attachment efficiency on the HO‐PBLG film was good and the cells grew well.  相似文献

Poly(allyl glycidyl ether) and poly(allyl glycidyl ether‐co‐epichlorohydrin) were prepared by monomer‐activated anionic polymerization. Quantitative and controlled polymerization of allyl glycidyl ether (AGE) giving high molar mass polyether was achieved in a few hours at room temperature in toluene using tetraoctylammonium salt as initiator in presence of an excess of triisobutylaluminum ([i‐Bu3Al]/[NOct4Br] = 2?4). Following the same polymerization route, the copolymerization of AGE and epichlorohydrin yields in a living‐like manner gradient‐type copolymers with controlled molar masses. Chemical modification of the pendant allyl group into cyclic carbonate was then investigated and the corresponding polymers were used as precursors for the isocyanate‐free synthesis of polyurethane networks in presence of a diamine. Formation of crosslinked materials was followed and characterized by infrared and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

New Y‐shaped (AB2‐type) amphiphilic copolymers of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with poly(trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC), PEG‐b‐(PTMC)2, were successfully synthesized by the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of TMC with bishydroxy‐modified monomethoxy‐PEG (mPEG). First, a bishydroxy functional ROP initiator was synthesized by esterification of acryloyl bromide with mPEG, followed by Michael addition using excess diethanolamine. A series of Y‐shaped amphiphilic PEG‐(PTMC)2 block copolymers were obtained via ROP of TMC using this PEG with bishydroxyl end groups as macroinitiator and ZnEt2 as catalyst. The amphiphilic block copolymers with different compositions were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and 1H NMR, and their molecular weight was measured by GPC. The results showed that the molecular weight of Y‐shaped copolymers increased with the increase of the molar ratio of TMC to mPEG‐(OH)2 initiator in feed while the PEG chain length was kept constant. The Y‐shaped copolymer mPEG‐(PTMC)2 could self‐assemble into micelles in aqueous medium and the critical micelle concentration values of the micelles decrease with increase in hydrophobic PTMC block length of mPEG‐(PTMC)2. The in vitro cytotoxicity and controlled drug release properties of the Y‐shaped amphiphilic block copolymers were also investigated. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Several titanium complexes based on aminodiol ligands were tested as initiators for the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone under solution and bulk conditions. All complexes were found to be efficient under both conditions. For bulk polymerization at 70 °C, high activities were observed (113.3–156.2 gpoly mmolcat?1 h?1) together with controlled molar mass distribution. Kinetic studies revealed controlled polymerization, and the chain propagation was first order with respect to monomer conversion. One complex was also tested for the ROP of rac‐β‐butyrolactone and the end‐group analysis suggested that ring opening occurs through acyl‐oxygen bond cleavage via coordination–insertion mechanism. The microstructure analysis of polymer by 13C NMR indicates atactic polymer. Another complex was also found to be efficient initiator for the ROP of trimethylene carbonate under solution and bulk conditions. Again, end‐group analysis suggests coordination–insertion mechanism. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Well‐defined ω‐cholesteryl poly(n‐hexyl isocyanate) (PHIC–Chol), as well as diblock copolymers of n‐hexyl isocyanate (HIC) with styrene, PS‐b‐PHIC [PS = polystyrene; PHIC = poly(n‐hexyl isocyanate)], and triblock terpolymers with styrene and isoprene, PS‐b‐PI‐b‐PHIC and PI‐b‐PS‐b‐PHIC (PI = polyisoprene), were synthesized with CpTiCl2(OR) (R = cholesteryl group, PS, or PS‐b‐PI) complexes. The synthetic strategy involved the reaction of the precursor complex CpTiCl3 with cholesterol or the suitable ω‐hydroxy homopolymer or block copolymer, followed by the polymerization of HIC. The ω‐hydroxy polymers were prepared by the anionic polymerization of the corresponding monomers and the reaction of the living chains with ethylene oxide. The reaction sequence was monitored by size exclusion chromatography, and the final products were characterized by size exclusion chromatography (light scattering and refractive‐index detectors), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and, in the case of PHIC–Chol, differential scanning calorimetry. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An efficient one‐pot process to functionalize the α‐ and ω‐positions of RAFT‐derived poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) by two inherently different mechanistic pathways is reported. The method relies on the RAFT polymerization of NIPAM using a new alkyne‐based RAFT agent, namely 2‐cyano‐5‐oxo‐5‐(prop‐2‐yn‐1‐ylamino)pentan‐2‐yl dodecyltrithiocarbonate (COPYDC) and the combination of thiol‐yne click chemistry and thiocarbonylthio chain‐end removal reactions. COPYDC was prepared in good yield and used as an efficient chain transfer agent during the RAFT polymerization of NIPAM. Well‐defined polymers with controlled molar masses ( = 7500–14,700 g.mol?1) and narrow dispersities (? = 1.18–1.26) are thus obtained. Cascade thiol‐yne click reaction at the alkyne α‐chain end and trithiocarbonate removal at the ω‐chain end are successfully achieved using benzyl mercaptan and excess AIBN. The reported method provides a facile and mild route to heterofunctional telechelic RAFT polymers with predictable molar masses and low dispersities. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Amphiphilic polycarbonate–poly(hydroxyalkanoate) diblock copolymers, namely, poly(trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC)‐b‐poly(β‐malic acid) (PMLA), are reported for the first time. The synthetic strategy relies on commercially available catalysts and initiator. The controlled ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of trimethylene carbonate (TMC) catalyzed by the organic guanidine base 1,5,7‐triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec‐5‐ene (TBD), associated with iPrOH as an initiator, provided iPrO?PTMC?OH, which served as a macroinitiator in the controlled ROP of benzyl β‐malolactonate (MLABe) catalyzed by the neodymium triflate salt (Nd(OTf)3). The resulting hydrophobic iPrO?PTMC‐b‐PMLABe?OH copolymers were then hydrogenolyzed into the parent iPrO?PTMC‐b‐PMLA?OH copolymers. A range of well‐defined copolymers, featuring different sizes of segments (Mn,NMR up to 9300 g mol?1; ÐM=1.28–1.40), were thus isolated in gram quantities, as evidenced by NMR spectroscopy, size exclusion chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and contact angle analyses. Subsequently, PTMC‐b‐PMLA copolymers with different hydrophilic weight fractions (11–75 %) self‐assembled in phosphate‐buffered saline upon nanoprecipitation into well‐defined nano‐objects with Dh=61–176 nm, a polydispersity index <0.25, and a negative surface charge, as characterized by dynamic light scattering and zeta‐potential analyses. In addition, these nanoparticles demonstrated no significant effect on cell viability at low concentrations, and a very low cytotoxicity at high concentrations only for PTMC‐b‐PMLA copolymers exhibiting hydrophilic fractions over 47 %, thus illustrating the potential of these copolymers as promising nanoparticles.  相似文献

Novel poly(ester carbonate)s were synthesized by the ring‐opening polymerization of L ‐lactide and functionalized carbonate monomer 9‐phenyl‐2,4,8,10‐tetraoxaspiro[5,5]undecan‐3‐one derived from pentaerythritol with diethyl zinc as an initiator. 1H NMR analysis revealed that the carbonate content in the copolymer was almost equal to that in the feed. DSC results indicated that Tg of the copolymer increased with increasing carbonate content in the copolymer. Moreover, the protecting benzylidene groups in the copolymer poly(L ‐lactide‐co‐9‐phenyl‐2,4,8,10‐tetraoxaspiro[5,5]undecan‐3‐one) were removed by hydrogenation with palladium hydroxide on activated charcoal as a catalyst to give a functional copolymer, poly(L ‐lactide‐co‐2,2‐dihydroxylmethyl‐propylene carbonate), containing pendant primary hydroxyl groups. Complete deprotection was confirmed by 1H NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. The in vitro degradation rate of the deprotected copolymers was faster than that of the protected copolymers in the presence of proteinase K. The cell morphology and viability on a copolymer film evaluated with ECV‐304 cells showed that poly(ester carbonate)s derived from pentaerythritol are good biocompatible materials suitable for biomedical applications. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. α,ω‐Dihydroxy‐telechelic poly(trimethylenecarbonate), HO‐PTMC‐OH, is synthesized from the controlled “immortal” ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of trimethylene carbonate under mild conditions (bulk, 60 °C), using ZnEt2 or, more efficiently, [(BDI)Zn(N(SiMe3)2)] (BDI = CH(CMeNC6H3‐2,6‐iPr2)2) as catalyst precursor, in the presence of a diol HO‐R‐OH (R = (CH2)2 or CH2C6H4CH2; 0.5–10 equiv. vs Zn) acting both as co‐initiator and chain transfer agent. Alternatively, HO‐PTMC‐OH is prepared upon hydrogenolysis of HO‐PTMC‐OCH2Ph, initially prepared from the ROP of TMC using the [(BDI)Zn(N(SiMe3)2)]/PhCH2OH system, under smooth operating conditions using Pd/charcoal. Well‐defined dihydroxy‐functionalized PTMCs of molar mass ranging from = 2 000 to 109 500 g · mol−1 were thus quantitatively obtained and fully characterized by NMR, MALDI‐TOF‐MS and SEC analyses. The versatility of this “immortal” ROP allows the preparation of alike α,ω‐functional polyester such as linear HO‐poly(lactide)‐OH, as well as star polymers such as the glycerol‐based PTM‐OH3.

The living radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate and styrene was successfully carried out with diethyl 2,3‐dicyano‐2,3‐diphenylsuccinate (DCDPS)/ferric tri(diethyldithiocarbamate) as a novel reverse atom transfer radical polymerization initiation system in which DCDPS was a hexa‐substituted ethane‐type thermal iniferter, DC was a diethyldithiocarbamate group, and no additional ligands such as nitrogen‐ or phosphine‐based compounds were required. The bulk polymerization of methyl methacrylate was carried out at 95 °C, and that of styrene was carried out at 120 °C. Poly(methyl methacrylate) and polystyrene (PSt) with high molecular weights and quite narrow molecular weight distributions (as low as 1.09 for PSt) were obtained. 1H NMR spectroscopy revealed the presence of an α‐(carbethoxycyanophenyl)methyl group from the initiator and an ω‐DC group from the catalyst in the obtained polymers. Various chain‐extension reactions under UV light or thermal treatments were successfully conducted to prove the presence and efficient reinitiating of the ω‐DC group. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Monoamino‐terminated and monocarboxylic acid‐terminated polystyrenes containing active halogenated end groups were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using the so‐called initiator method and protective group chemistry. α‐Chloropropionates were synthesized and utilized as initiators containing the tert‐butoxycarbonyl (t‐BOC)‐protected amino and the tert‐butyl (t‐Bu)‐protected carboxylic acid function, respectively. Optimum polymerization conditions were attained using CuCl/N,N,N′,N′′,N′′‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) as catalyst and 10 vol % n‐butanol as homogenizing agent at 110 °C. However, targeting larger quantities an alternative route was established employing 50 vol % N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF). Subsequent hydrolysis of the ω‐tert‐butoxycarbonyl polystyrenes afforded well‐defined polymers with quantitative deprotection of the functional groups. Comparatively, thermolytic cleavage of the protective sites was studied. 1H NMR verified the quantitative removal of the t‐BOC‐protecting groups. Furthermore, the resulting α‐amino‐ω‐chloro polystyrenes were reacted with Sanger reagent to confirm the existence of the thereby converted primary amino groups. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphiphilic poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly[(methacrylate‐graft‐poly(ethylene oxide))‐co‐6‐O‐methacryloyl‐D ‐galactopyranose] (PCL‐b‐P(MAPEO‐co‐GaMa)) with various compositions and molecular weights were synthesized via a controlled four‐step strategy. The first step involves the synthesis of functionalized poly(ε‐caprolactone) macroinitiator by ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (CL) as initiated by aluminum triisopropoxide (Al(OiPr)3). After selective bromination of the hydroxyl end‐group of the resulting α‐isopropoxy, ω‐hydroxy poly(ε‐caprolactone) by using 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide, the controlled radical copolymerization of α‐methoxy, ω‐methacrylate poly(ethylene oxide) (MAPEO) with 6‐O‐methacryloyl‐1,2;3,4‐di‐O‐isopropylidene‐D ‐galactopyranose (DIGaMa) was performed by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) in THF at 60 °C using CuBr ligated with 1,1,4,7,10,10 hexamethyltriethylenetetramine (HMTETA) as catalytic complex. In the final step, isopropylidene protective functions were selectively removed using an aqueous formic acid solution leading to the expected amphiphilic graft copolymers. The molecular characterization of those copolymers was performed by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) analysis. The self‐assembly of the copolymers into micellar aggregates as well as the related critical micellization concentration (CMC) in aqueous media were determined by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and fluorescence spectroscopy, respectively. In parallel, the morphology of the solid deposits of micellar aggregates was examined with atomic force microscopy (AFM). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An N‐alkoxyamine macroinitiator bearing a polymeric nitroxide cap was synthesized and used to investigate the effect of nitroxide size on the rate of nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMRP). This macroinitiator was prepared from asymmetric double‐headed initiator 9 , which contains both an α‐bromoester and an N‐alkoxyamine functionality. Poly(methyl methacrylate) was grown by atom transfer radical polymerization from the α‐bromoester end of this initiator, resulting in a macroinitiator (Mn = 31,000; PDI = 1.34) bearing a nitroxide cap permanently attached to a polymer chain. The polymerization kinetics of this macroinitiator in NMRP were compared with known N‐alkoxyamine initiator 1 . It was found that the rate of polymerization was unaffected by the size of the macromolecular nitroxide cap. It was confirmed that NMRP using this macroinitiator is a “living” process. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 2015–2025, 2007  相似文献

Well‐defined heterotelechelic poly(styrene) carrying thymine/diaminopyridine (DAP) (Mn,SEC = 9300, PDI = 1.04) and Hamilton wedge (HW)/cyanuric acid (CA) (Mn,SEC = 8200, PDI = 1.04) bonding motifs are prepared via a combination of controlled/living radical polymerization and copper catalyzed azide/alkyne “click” chemistry and are subsequently self‐assembled as single chains to emulate—on a simple level—the self‐folding behavior of natural biomacromolecules. Hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) in deuterated dichloromethane and dynamic light scattering analyses provides evidence for the hydrogen bonding interactions between the α‐thymine and ω‐DAP as well as α‐CA and ω‐HW chain ends of the heterotelechelic polymers leading to circular entropy driven single chain self‐assembly. This study demonstrates that the choice of NMR solvent is important for obtaining well‐resolved NMR spectra of the self‐assembled structures. In addition, steric effects on the HW can affect the efficiency of the self‐assembly process. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献
