Ideal-Symmetric and Semiprime Rings

Lambek extended the usual commutative ideal theory to ideals in noncommutative rings, calling an ideal A of a ring R symmetric if rst ∈ A implies rts ∈ A for r, s, t ∈ R. R is usually called symmetric if 0 is a symmetric ideal. This naturally gives rise to extending the study of symmetric ring property to the lattice of ideals. In the process, we introduce the concept of an ideal-symmetric ring. We first characterize the class of ideal-symmetric rings and show that this ideal-symmetric property is Morita invariant. We provide a method of constructing an ideal-symmetric ring (but not semiprime) from any given semiprime ring, noting that semiprime rings are ideal-symmetric. We investigate the structure of minimal ideal-symmetric rings completely, finding two kinds of basic forms of finite ideal-symmetric rings. It is also shown that the ideal-symmetric property can go up to right quotient rings in relation with regular elements. The polynomial ring R[x] over an ideal-symmetric ring R need not be ideal-symmetric, but it is shown that the factor ring R[x]/xⁿR[x] is ideal-symmetric over a semiprime ring R.

Prime ideals of principally quasi-Baer rings

We extend a theorem of Kist for commutative PP rings to principally quasi-Baer rings for which every prime ideal contains a unique minimal prime ideal without using topological arguments. Also decompositions of quasi-Baer and principally quasi-Baer rings are investigated. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

The McCoy Condition on Noncommutative Rings

We introduce the multiplication algebra of a Bernstein algebra, establish its Peirce decomposition relative to an idempotent of A and state some basic properties of this algebra of endomorphtsms     

Principal quasi-Baerness of formal power series rings

Let R be a ring. We consider left （or right） principal quasi-Baerness of the left skew formal power series ring R[[x;α]] over R where a is a ring automorphism of R. We give a necessary and sufficient condition under which the ring R[[x; α]] is left （or right） principally quasi-Baer. As an application we show that R[[x]] is left principally quasi-Baer if and only if R is left principally quasi- Baer and the left annihilator of the left ideal generated by any countable family of idempotents in R is generated by an idempotent.     

On a Generalized Finite Intersection Property

We continue the study of the right finite intersection property under a weaker condition on annihilators, introducing the concept of generalized right finite intersection property (simply, generalized right FIP). We observe the structure of rings with the generalized right FIP and examine the generalized right FIP for various kinds of basic extensions of rings with the property. We show that the generalized right FIP does not go up to polynomial rings, and that the 2-by-2 full matrix ring over a domain has the generalized right FIP. In the process, we also obtain an equivalent condition for which a nonzero polynomial, over the ring of integers modulo n ≥ 2, is a non-zero-divisor.     

Power Series Rings Satisfying a Zero Divisor Property

In this note we continue to study zero divisors in power series rings and polynomial rings over general noncommutative rings. We first construct Armendariz rings which are not power-serieswise Armendariz, and find various properties of (power-serieswise) Armendariz rings. We show that for a semiprime power-serieswise Armendariz (so reduced) ring R with a.c.c. on annihilator ideals, R[[x]] (the power series ring with an indeterminate x over R) has finitely many minimal prime ideals, say B ₁,…,B _m , such that B ₁… B _m  = 0 and B _i  = A _i [[x]] for some minimal prime ideal A _i of R for all i, where A ₁,…,A _m are all minimal prime ideals of R. We also prove that the power-serieswise Armendarizness is preserved by the polynomial ring extension as the Armendarizness, and construct various types of (power-serieswise) Armendariz rings.     

On the Generalized Strongly Nil-Clean Property of Matrix Rings

Let R be an associative unital ring and not necessarily commutative.We analyze conditions under which every n × n matrix A over R is expressible as a sum A =E1 +…+ Es + N of (commuting) idempotent matrices Ei and a nilpotent matrix N.

Quasipolar Property of Generalized Matrix Rings

The article concerns the question of when a generalized matrix ring K _s (R) over a local ring R is quasipolar. For a commutative local ring R, it is proved that K _s (R) is quasipolar if and only if it is strongly clean. For a general local ring R, some partial answers to the question are obtained. There exist noncommutative local rings R such that K _s (R) is strongly clean, but not quasipolar. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a single matrix of K _s (R) (where R is a commutative local ring) to be quasipolar is obtained. The known results on this subject in [5 Cui , J. , Chen , J. ( 2011 ). When is a 2 × 2 matrix ring over a commutative local ring quasipolar? Comm. Decompositions of Quotient Rings and m-Power Commuting Maps

Let R be a semiprime ring with symmetric Martindale quotient ring Q, n ≥ 2 and let f(X) = X ⁿ h(X), where h(X) is a polynomial over the ring of integers with h(0) = ±1. Then there is a ring decomposition Q = Q ₁ ⊕ Q ₂ ⊕ Q ₃ such that Q ₁ is a ring satisfying S _2n?2, the standard identity of degree 2n ? 2, Q ₂ ? M _n (E) for some commutative regular self-injective ring E such that, for some fixed q > 1, x ^q  = x for all x ∈ E, and Q ₃ is a both faithful S _2n?2-free and faithful f-free ring. Applying the theorem, we characterize m-power commuting maps, which are defined by linear generalized differential polynomials, on a semiprime ring.     

On Quotient Rings in Alternative Rings

We introduce a notion of left nonsingularity for alternative rings and prove that an alternative ring is left nonsingular if and only if every essential left ideal is dense, if and only if its maximal left quotient ring is von Neumann regular (a Johnson-like Theorem). Finally, we obtain a Gabriel-like Theorem for alternative rings.

Morita Invariance and Maximal Left Quotient Rings

Abstract

We prove that under conditions of regularity the maximal left quotient ring of a corner of a ring is the corner of the maximal left quotient ring. We show that if R and S are two non-unital Morita equivalent rings then their maximal left quotient rings are not necessarily Morita equivalent. This situation contrasts with the unital case. However we prove that the ideals generated by two Morita equivalent idempotent rings inside their own maximal left quotient rings are Morita equivalent.     

Local Rings of Rings of Quotients

The aim of this paper is to characterize those elements in a semiprime ring R for which taking local rings at elements and rings of quotients are commuting operations. If Q denotes the maximal ring of left quotients of R, then this happens precisely for those elements if R which are von Neumann regular in Q. An intrinsic characterization of such elements is given. We derive as a consequence that the maximal left quotient ring of a prime ring with a nonzero PI-element is primitive and has nonzero socle. If we change Q to the Martindale symmetric ring of quotients, or to the maximal symmetric ring of quotients of R, we obtain similar results: an element a in R is von Neumann regular if and only if the ring of quotients of the local ring of R at a is isomorphic to the local ring of Q at a. Generalization of Regular Modules

We study generalizations of regular modules by Ramamurthy and Mabuchi. These are also generalizations of fully right idempotent and fully left idempotent rings, respectively. We also define and study the properties of *-weakly regular modules, a generalization of fully idempotent rings.     

Ore Extensions of Quasi-Baer Rings

We first study the quasi-Baerness of R[x; σ, δ] over a quasi-Baer ring R when σ is an automorphism of R, obtaining an affirmative result. We next show that if R is a right principally quasi-Baer ring and σ is an automorphism of R with σ(e) = e for any left semicentral idempotent e ∈ R, then R[x; σ, δ] is right principally quasi-Baer. As a corollary, we have that R[x; δ] over a right principally quasi-Baer ring R is right principally quasi-Baer. Finally, we give conditions under which the quasi-Baernesses (right principal quasi-Baernesses) of R and R[x; σ, δ] are equivalent.
