Let X be a non-singular complex projective curve of genus ≥3. Choose a point x ∈ X. Let Mx be the moduli space of stable bundles of rank 2 with determinant We prove that the Chow group CHQ1(Mx) of 1-cycles on Mx with rational coefficients is isomorphic to CHQ0(X). By studying the rational curves on Mx, it is not difficult to see that there exits a natural homomorphism CH0(J)→CH1(Mx) where J denotes the Jacobian of X. The crucial point is to show that this homomorphism induces a homomorphism CH0(X)→CH1(Mx), namely, to go from the infinite dimensional object CH0(J) to the finite dimensional object CH0(X). This is proved by relating the degeneration of Hecke curves on Mx to the second term I*2 of Bloch's filtration on CH0(J).

In this note we give an algebraic version of a construction called symplectic cutting, which is due to Lerman. Our construction is valid for projective varieties defined over arbitrary fields. Using the equivariant intersection theory developed by the authors, it is a useful tool for studying quotients by torus actions. At the end of the paper, we give an algebraic proof of the Kalkman residue formula and use it to give some formulas for characteristic numbers of quotients.

This paper introduces a submanifold of the moduli space of unitary representations of the fundamental group of a punctured sphere with fixed local monodromy. The submanifold is defined via products of involutions through Lagrangian subspaces. This study is done by extending the notion of (generalized) parabolic vector bundles to principal G-bundles on the desingularizationC ofY and using the correspondence between them and principal G-bundles onY. We give an isomorphism of the stack of generalized parabolic bundles onC with a quotient stack associated to loop groups.
