On the Hilbert series of ideals generated by generic forms

There is a longstanding conjecture by Fröberg about the Hilbert series of the ring R∕I, where R is a polynomial ring, and I an ideal generated by generic forms. We prove this conjecture true in the case when I is generated by a large number of forms, all of the same degree. We also conjecture that an ideal generated by m’th powers of generic forms of degree d≥2 gives the same Hilbert series as an ideal generated by generic forms of degree md. We verify this in several cases. This also gives a proof of the first conjecture in some new cases.     

On some filters and ideals of the Medvedev lattice

Let \(\mathfrak{M}\) be the Medvedev lattice: this paper investigates some filters and ideals (most of them already introduced by Dyment, [4]) of \(\mathfrak{M}\) . If \(\mathfrak{G}\) is any of the filters or ideals considered, the questions concerning \(\mathfrak{G}\) which we try to answer are: (1) is \(\mathfrak{G}\) prime? What is the cardinality of \({\mathfrak{M} \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {\mathfrak{M} \mathfrak{G}}} \right. \kern-0em} \mathfrak{G}}\) ? Occasionally, we point out some general facts on theT-degrees or the partial degrees, by which these questions can be answered.     

Cube-like structures generated by filters

The join semi-lattice of faces of an n-cube has a rich structure. In considering generalizations of these structures we are led to looking at interval algebras constructed using Boolean filters. We look at the structure of these algebras and their automorphism groups.Dedicated to the memory of Gian-Carlo Rota     

On ideals generated by two generic quadratic forms in the exterior algebra

Based on the structure theory of pairs of skew-symmetric matrices, we give a conjecture for the Hilbert series of the exterior algebra modulo the ideal generated by two generic quadratic forms. We show that the conjectured series is an upper bound in the coefficient-wise sense, and we determine a majority of the coefficients. We also conjecture that the series is equal to the series of the squarefree polynomial ring modulo the ideal generated by the squares of two generic linear forms.     

On the multiplicity of blow-up rings of ideals generated by d-sequences

We consider the Rees ring, the extended Rees ring and the associated graded ring of an ideal which is generated by a homogenous d-sequence. We introduce on these rings certain fine filtrations which allow us to compute their multiplicity with respect to their unique graded maximal ideal.     

On generalized statistical convergence of double sequences via ideals

The concept of statistical convergence is one of the most active area of research in the field of summability. Most of the new summability methods have relation with this popular method. In this paper we generalize the notions of statistical convergence, (λ, μ)-statistical convergence, (V, λ, μ) summability and (C, 1, 1) summability for a double sequence x = (x _jk ) via ideals. We also establish the relation between our new methods.     

Right ideals generated by an idempotent of finite rank

Let R be a K-algebra acting densely on V_D, where K is a commutative ring with unity and V is a right vector space over a division K-algebra D. Let f(X₁,…,X_t) be an arbitrary and fixed polynomial over K in noncommuting indeterminates X₁,…,X_t with constant term 0 such that for some μK occurring in the coefficients of f(X₁,…,X_t). It is proved that a right ideal ρ of R is generated by an idempotent of finite rank if and only if the rank of f(x₁,…,x_t) is bounded above by a same natural number for all x₁,…,x_tρ. In this case, the rank of the idempotent that generates ρ is also explicitly given. The results are then applied to considering the triangularization of ρ and the irreducibility of f(ρ), where f(ρ) denotes the additive subgroup of R generated by the elements f(x₁,…,x_t) for x₁,…,x_tρ.     

Nicely generated and chaotic ideals

We show that if the real line is the disjoint union of meager sets such that every meager set is contained in a countable union of them, then . This answers a question addressed by Jacek Cicho\'{n}. We also prove two theorems saying roughly that any attempt to produce the isomorphism type of the meager ideal in the Cohen real and the random real extensions must fail. All our results hold for meager replaced by null, as well.

     

Uniquely generated Grothendieck space ideals

Starting from a result of Pietsch on the Grothendieck ideal of strictly nuclear locally convex spaces, we classify all those Grothendieck ideals of nuclear locally convex spaces that are generated by a unique operator ideal on the class of Banach spaces.     

Rings of quotients of f-rings by gabriel filters of ideals

The article examines the role of Gabriel filters of ideals in the ontext of semiprime f-rings. It is shown that for every 2-convex semiprime f-ring Aand every multiplicative filter B of dense ideals the ring of quotients of A by B, namely the direct limit of the Hom _A (I, A) over all I∈ B, is an l-subring of QA, the maximum ring of quotients. Relative to the category of all commutative rings with identity, it is shown that for every 2-convex semiprime f-ring A qA, the classical ring of quotients, is the largest flat epimorphic extension of A. If Ais also a Prüfer ring then it follows that every extension of Ain qA is of the form S ^-1A for a suitable multiplicative subset S. The paper also examines when a Utumi ring of quotients of a semiprime f-ring is obtained from a Gabriel filter. For a ring of continuous functions C(X), with Xcompact, this is so for each C(U) and C ^*(U), when Uis dense open, but not for an arbitrary direct limit of C(U),taken over a filter base of dense open sets. In conclusion, it is shown that, for a complemented semiprime f-ring A, the ideals of Awhich are torsion radicals with respect to some hereditary torsion theory are precisely the intersections of minimal prime ideals of A.     

Sets generated by arithmetic sequences

We discuss necessary and sufficient conditions for the partition of integer arithmetic sequences by sets generated by the multiples of irrational numbers by members of other arithmetic sequences.     

Density versions of Schur's theorem for ideals generated by submeasures

We characterize ideals of subsets of natural numbers for which some versions of Schur's theorem hold. These are similar to generalizations shown by Bergelson (1986) in [1] and Frankl, Graham and Rödl (1990) in [7]. Additionally, we prove a generalization of an iterated version of Ramsey's theorem.
