On the order of the antipode of hopf algebras

In this paper we consider a conjecture on the order of the antipode of semisimple Hopf algebras in the Yetter-Drinfeld category and study a related property of the ordinary Hopf algebras. We show that most known examples of finite-dimensional semisimple Hopf algebras satisfy this property.

Two observations about free graded hopf algebras

This paper records two results about graded Hopf algebras that do not appear to be stated explicitly in the literature. Let B be a graded set, graded by the positive integers. Let V be the graded vector space with basis B over a field K of characteristic zero and V^'=K⊕V, where K is in grading zero. Let L ne the free graded Lie algebra on B over K and let T be the free graded tensor algebra on B. The first result is the "graded Witt formula" giving the dimension of the subspace of L in each grading. The second result is the observation that any graded coassociative, co-commutative comultiplication Δ:V^'→V^'⊗V^', with co-unit the projection V¹→K. extends to a graded Hopf algebra structure on T that is in fact isomorphic to the natural graded Hopf algebra structure on T. In the ungraded case the statement analogous to the second result is false.     

Hopf algebras over hopf algebras

Summary In any category with products and a terminal object one may define the notions of group, module over a group etc. if f: R′→R is a homomorphism of groups, and M an R-module, then one has an induced R′-module f*(M). If one is working in the category of sets, one may define a functor left adjoint to f* by N→R⊗_R′ N, where N is an R′-module. In this paper we show that f* has a left adjoint when one is working in the category of graded connected coalgebras over a field.     

Self-dual hopf algebras

We introduce the notions of self-dual (graded) Hopf algebras and of structurally simple (graded) Hopf algebras. We prove that the self-dual Hopf algebras are structurally simple and provide a construction of self-dual Hopf algebras. Finally, we classify the self-dual quotients of the form T_B (M)/I, where T_B (M) is a path algebra with a graded Hopf algebra structure, and I is a graded admissible Hopf ideal.     

Twisted hopf comodule algebras

For k a commutative ring, H a k‐bialgebra and A a right H‐comodule k‐algebra, we define a new multiplication on the H‐comodule A to obtain a twisted algebra” A^T, T sumHom(H,End (A)). If ^T is convolution invertible, the categories of relative right Hopf modules over A and A^Tare isomorphic. Similarly a convolution invertible left twisting gives an isomorphism of the categories of relative left Hopf modules. We show that crossed products are invertible twistings of the tensor product, and obtain, as a corollary, a duality theorem for crossed products     

Forms of certain hopf algebras

Let Ψ be a field, G a finite group of automorphisms of Ψ, and Φ the fixed field of G. Let H be a Hopf algebra over Ψ. For g ∈ G we define a Hopf algebra H_g which has the same underlying vector space as H and modified operations and show that the tensor product (over Ψ) ?_{g ∈ G} H_g has a Φ-form. As a consequence we see that if n>0 is an integer and Φ is a field of characteristic zero or p>0 with (n,p)=1, then there is a finite dimensional Hopf algebra over Φ with antipode of order 2n.     

Some remarks on filtrations of hopf algebras

In this paper, the problem of nontrivial nearring multiplications on groups is closely investigated with a different approach. By using the notions of 5, 0-acts and the language of model theory, we give a detailed discussion on a large class of groups that possesses nontrivial nearring multiplications. In the last section, we apply our results to the theory of centralizer nearrings of a single endomorphism which is mainly due to the work of C. Maxson and K. Smith [28, 29]     

Uncertainty inequalities for hopf algebras

The uncertainty principle was recently formulated for locally compact Abelian groups and for finite groups. In this paper similar inequalities are found for certain Hopf algebras. Some cases of equality are characterized, showing a connection with right coideal subalgebras that are Forbenius algebras.     

Centrally closed hopf module algebras

We introduce a concept of centrally closed Hopf module algebras and show that centrally closed Hopf module algebras inherit all basic properties of centrally closed algebras.     

A duality theorem for crossed products of hopf algebras

Abstract

We study the automorphism and collineation groups of plane curves, i.e., in ?², that are not necessarily smooth, and obtain bounds for these curves in terms of, their degree and the number of singularities. We also introduce the notion of bad curves and good curves, and show that all bad curves are rational.     

A note on the order of the antipode of a pointed Hopf algebra

Let k be a field and let H denote a pointed Hopf k-algebra with antipode S. We are interested in determining the order of S. Building on the work done by Taft and Wilson in [7], we define an invariant for H, denoted m_H, and prove that the value of this invariant is connected to the order of S. In the case where char k?=?0, it is shown that if S has finite order then it is either the identity or has order 2?m_H. If in addition H is assumed to be coradically graded, it is shown that the order of S is finite if and only if m_H is finite. We also consider the case where char k?=?p?>?0, generalizing the results of [7] to the infinite-dimensional setting.
