Suppose that V is a finite faithful irreducible G-module where G is a finite solvable group of odd order. We prove if the action is quasi-primitive, then either F(G) is abelian or G has at least 212 regular orbits on V. As an application, we prove that when V is a finite faithful completely reducible G-module for a solvable group G of odd order, then there exists v ∈ V such that C G (v) ? F 2(G) (where F 2(G) is the 2nd ascending Fitting subgroup of G). We also generalize a result of Espuelas and Navarro. Let G be a group of odd order and let H be a Hall π-subgroup of G. Let V be a faithful G-module over a finite field of characteristic 2, then there exists v ∈ V such that C H (v) ? O π(G).  相似文献

We prove that for any finite dimensional representation V of a finite group G of order n the quotient variety G??(V) is projectively normal with respect to descent of 𝒪(1)?l where l = lcm{1,2,3,4,…,n}. We also prove that for the tautological representation V of the alternating group An the projective variety An??(V) is projectively normal with respect to the descent of the above line bundle.  相似文献

Let K be a field of characteristic zero. For a torsion-free finitely generated nilpotent group G, we naturally associate four finite dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras over K, ? K (G), grad(?)(? K (G)), grad(g)(exp ? K (G)), and L K (G). Let 𝔗 c be a torsion-free variety of nilpotent groups of class at most c. For a positive integer n, with n ≥ 2, let F n (𝔗 c ) be the relatively free group of rank n in 𝔗 c . We prove that ? K (F n (𝔗 c )) is relatively free in some variety of nilpotent Lie algebras, and ? K (F n (𝔗 c )) ? L K (F n (𝔗 c )) ? grad(?)(? K (F n (𝔗 c ))) ? grad(g)(exp ? K (F n (𝔗 c ))) as Lie algebras in a natural way. Furthermore, F n (𝔗 c ) is a Magnus nilpotent group. Let G 1 and G 2 be torsion-free finitely generated nilpotent groups which are quasi-isometric. We prove that if G 1 and G 2 are relatively free of finite rank, then they are isomorphic. Let L be a relatively free nilpotent Lie algebra over ? of finite rank freely generated by a set X. Give on L the structure of a group R, say, by means of the Baker–Campbell–Hausdorff formula, and let H be the subgroup of R generated by the set X. We show that H is relatively free in some variety of nilpotent groups; freely generated by the set X, H is Magnus and L ? ??(H) ? L ?(H) as Lie algebras. For relatively free residually torsion-free nilpotent groups, we prove that ? K and L K are isomorphic as Lie algebras. We also give an example of a finitely generated Magnus nilpotent group G, not relatively free, such that ??(G) is not isomorphic to L ?(G) as Lie algebras.  相似文献

Let F n be the free group of rank n, and let Aut+(F n ) be its special automorphism group. For an epimorphism π : F n G of the free group F n onto a finite group G we call the standard congruence subgroup of Aut+(F n ) associated to G and π. In the case n = 2 we fully describe the abelianization of Γ+(G, π) for finite abelian groups G. Moreover, we show that if G is a finite non-perfect group, then Γ+(G, π) ≤ Aut+(F 2) has infinite abelianization.  相似文献

Let G be a graph of order 4k and let δ(G) denote the minimum degree of G. Let F be a given connected graph. Suppose that |V(G)| is a multiple of |V(F)|. A spanning subgraph of G is called an F‐factor if its components are all isomorphic to F. In this paper, we prove that if δ(G)≥5/2k, then G contains a K4?‐factor (K4? is the graph obtained from K4 by deleting just one edge). The condition on the minimum degree is best possible in a sense. In addition, the proof can be made algorithmic. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Graph Theory 39: 111–128, 2002  相似文献

Hanna Neumann asked whether it was possible for two non-isomorphic residually nilpotent finitely generated (fg) groups, one of them free, to share the lower central sequence. Baumslag answered the question in the affirmative and thus gave rise to parafree groups. A group G is termed parafree of rank n if it is residually nilpotent and shares the same lower central sequence with a free group of rank n. The deviation of a fg parafree group G of rank n is the difference μ(G) ? n, where μ(G) is the minimum possible number of generators of G.

Let G be fg; then Hom(G, SL 2?) inherits the structure of an algebraic variety, denoted by R(G). If G is an n generated parafree group, then the deviation of G is 0 iff Dim(R(G)) = 3n. It is known that for n ≥ 2 there exist infinitely many parafree groups of rank n and deviation 1 with non-isomorphic representation varieties of dimension 3n. In this paper it is shown that given integers n ≥ 2 and k ≥ 1, there exists infinitely many parafree groups of rank n and deviation k with non-isomorphic representation varieties of dimension different from 3n; in particular, there exist infinitely many parafree groups G of rank n with Dim(R(G)) > q, where q ≥ 3n is an arbitrary integer.  相似文献

The prime graph of a finite group G is denoted by Γ(G). In this paper as the main result, we show that if G is a finite group such that Γ(G) = Γ(F 4(q)), where q = 2 n  > 2, then G has a unique nonabelian composition factor isomorphic to F 4(q). We also show that if G is a finite group satisfying |G| = |F 4(q)| and Γ(G) = Γ(F 4(q)), where q = 2 n  > 2, then G @ F4(q){G \cong F_4(q)}. As a consequence of our result we give a new proof for a conjecture of Shi and Bi for F 4(q) where q = 2 n  > 2.  相似文献

Let G be a subgroup of the symmetric group Sm and V be an n-dimensional unitary space where nm. Let V(G) be the symmetry class of tensors over V associated with G and the identity character. Let D(G) be the set of all decomposable elements of V(G) and O(G) be its subset consisting of all nonzero decomposable tensors x 1 ?? xm such that {x 1,…,xm } is an orthogonal set. In this paper we study the structure of linear mappings on V(G) that preserve one of the following subsets: (i)O(G), (ii) D(G)\(O(G)?{0}).  相似文献

Given a graphG onn vertices and a total ordering ≺ ofV(G), the transitive orientation ofG associated with ≺, denotedP(G; ≺), is the partial order onV(G) defined by settingx<y inP(G; ≺) if there is a pathx=x 1 x 2x r=y inG such thatx 1x j for 1≦i<jr. We investigate graphsG such that every transitive orientation ofG contains 2 no(n 2) relations. We prove that almost everyG n,p satisfies this requirement if , but almost noG n,p satisfies the condition if (pn log log logn)/(logn log logn) is bounded. We also show that every graphG withn vertices and at mostcn logn edges has some transitive orientation with fewer than 2 nδ(c)n 2 relations. Partially supported by MCS Grant 8104854.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Let F m (N) be the free left nilpotent (of class two) Leibniz algebra of finite rank m, with m ≥ 2. We show that F m (N) has non-tame automorphisms and, for m ≥ 3, the automorphism group of F m (N) is generated by the tame automorphisms and one more non-tame IA-automorphism. Let F(N) be the free left nilpotent Leibniz algebra of rank greater than 1 and let G be an arbitrary non-trivial finite subgroup of the automorphism group of F(N). We prove that the fixed point subalgebra F(N) G is not finitely generated.  相似文献

The commuting graph of a ring R, denoted by Γ(R), is a graph whose vertices are all noncentral elements of R, and two distinct vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if xy = yx. The commuting graph of a group G, denoted by Γ(G), is similarly defined. In this article we investigate some graph-theoretic properties of Γ(M n (F)), where F is a field and n ≥ 2. Also we study the commuting graphs of some classical groups such as GL n (F) and SL n (F). We show that Γ(M n (F)) is a connected graph if and only if every field extension of F of degree n contains a proper intermediate field. We prove that apart from finitely many fields, a similar result is true for Γ(GL n (F)) and Γ(SL n (F)). Also we show that for two fields F and E and integers n, m ≥ 2, if Γ(M n (F))?Γ(M m (E)), then n = m and |F|=|E|.  相似文献

We prove that, for q odd and n ≥ 3, the group G = O n (q 2) · 2 is maximal in either the orthogonal group O 2n (q) or the special orthogonal group SO 2n (q). The group G corresponds to the stabilizer of a spread of lines of PG(2n ? 1, q) in which some lines lie on a quadric, some are secant to the quadric, and others are external to the quadric.  相似文献

A weak Cayley table isomorphism is a bijection φ:GH of groups such that φ(xy)~φ(x)φ(y) for all x,yG. Here ~ denotes conjugacy. When G = H the set of all weak Cayley table isomorphisms φ:GG forms a group 𝒲(G) that contains the automorphism group Aut(G) and the inverse map I:GG,x?x?1. Let 𝒲0(G) = ?Aut(G),I?≤𝒲(G) and say that G has trivial weak Cayley table group if 𝒲(G) = 𝒲0(G). We show that PSL(2,pn) has trivial weak Cayley table group, where p≥5 is a prime and n≥1.  相似文献

We prove that the averaged scattering solutions to the Schrödinger equation with short-range electromagnetic potentials (V, A) where V(x) = O(|x|), A(x) = O(|x|), |x| → ∞, ρ > 1, are dense in the set of all solutions to the Schrödinger equation that are in L 2(K) where K is any connected bounded open set in ? n ,n ≥ 2, with smooth boundary. We use this result to prove that if two short-range electromagnetic potentials (V 1, A 1) and (V 2, A 2) in ? n , n ≥ 3, have the same scattering matrix at a fixed positive energy and if the electric potentials V j and the magnetic fields F j : = curl A j , j = 1, 2, coincide outside of some ball they necessarily coincide everywhere. In a previous paper of Weder and Yafaev the case of electric potentials and magnetic fields that are asymptotic sums of homogeneous terms at infinity was studied. It was proven that all these terms can be uniquely reconstructed from the singularities in the forward direction of the scattering amplitude at a fixed positive energy. The combination of the new uniqueness result of this paper and the result of Weder and Yafaev implies that the scattering matrix at a fixed positive energy uniquely determines electric potentials and magnetic fields that are a finite sum of homogeneous terms at infinity, or more generally, that are asymptotic sums of homogeneous terms that actually converge, respectively, to the electric potential and to the magnetic field.  相似文献

Let F:VCm be a regular mapping, where VCn is an algebraic set of positive dimension and m?n?2, and let L(F) be the ?ojasiewicz exponent at infinity of F. We prove that F has a polynomial extension G:CnCm such L(G)=L(F). Moreover, we give an estimate of the degree of the extension G. Additionally, we prove that if then for any βQ, β?L(F), the mapping F has a polynomial extension G with L(G)=β. We also give an estimate of the degree of this extension.  相似文献

Straightening and bounded cohomology of hyperbolic groups   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
It was stated by M. Gromov [Gr2] that, for any hyperbolic group G, the map from bounded cohomology Hnb(G,\Bbb R) H^n_b(G,{\Bbb R}) to Hn(G,\Bbb R) H^n(G,{\Bbb R}) induced by inclusion is surjective for n 3 2 n \ge 2 . We introduce a homological analogue of straightening simplices, which works for any hyperbolic group. This implies that the map Hnb(G,V) ? Hn(G,V) H^n_b(G,V) \to H^n(G,V) is surjective for n 3 2 n \ge 2 when V is any bounded \Bbb QG {\Bbb Q}G -module and when V is any finitely generated abelian group.  相似文献

Abstract

We construct an associative algebra A k and show that there is a representation of A k on V ?k , where V is the natural 2n-dimensional representation of the Lie superalgebra 𝔭(n). We prove that A k is the full centralizer of 𝔭(n) on V ?k , thereby obtaining a “Schur-Weyl duality” for the Lie superalgebra 𝔭(n). This result is used to understand the representation theory of the Lie superalgebra 𝔭(n). In particular, using A k we decompose the tensor space V ?k , for k = 2 or 3, and show that V ?k is not completely reducible for any k ≥ 2.  相似文献

A digraph G = (V, E) is primitive if, for some positive integer k, there is a uv walk of length k for every pair u, v of vertices of V. The minimum such k is called the exponent of G, denoted exp(G). The exponent of a vertex uV, denoted exp(u), is the least integer k such that there is a uv walk of length k for each vV. For a set XV, exp(X) is the least integer k such that for each vV there is a Xv walk of length k, i.e., a uv walk of length k for some uX. Let F(G, k) : = max{exp(X) : |X| = k} and F(n, k) : = max{F(G, k) : |V| = n}, where |X| and |V| denote the number of vertices in X and V, respectively. Recently, B. Liu and Q. Li proved F(n, k) = (nk)(n − 1) + 1 for all 1 ≤ kn − 1. In this article, for each k, 1 ≤ kn − 1, we characterize the digraphs G such that F(G, k) = F(n, k), thereby answering a question of R. Brualdi and B. Liu. We also find some new upper bounds on the (ordinary) exponent of G in terms of the maximum outdegree of G, Δ+(G) = max{d+(u) : uV}, and thus obtain a new refinement of the Wielandt bound (n − 1)2 + 1. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Let S(r) denote a circle of circumference r. The circular consecutive choosability chcc(G) of a graph G is the least real number t such that for any r≥χc(G), if each vertex v is assigned a closed interval L(v) of length t on S(r), then there is a circular r‐coloring f of G such that f(v)∈L(v). We investigate, for a graph, the relations between its circular consecutive choosability and choosability. It is proved that for any positive integer k, if a graph G is k‐choosable, then chcc(G)?k + 1 ? 1/k; moreover, the bound is sharp for k≥3. For k = 2, it is proved that if G is 2‐choosable then chcc(G)?2, while the equality holds if and only if G contains a cycle. In addition, we prove that there exist circular consecutive 2‐choosable graphs which are not 2‐choosable. In particular, it is shown that chcc(G) = 2 holds for all cycles and for K2, n with n≥2. On the other hand, we prove that chcc(G)>2 holds for many generalized theta graphs. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 67: 178‐197, 2011  相似文献
