On mixed Abelian groups with periodic groups of automorphisms

In the paper, sufficient conditions for the splittability of mixed Abelian groups with periodic automorphism groups are established. When is an Abelian group isomorphic to its endomorphism group?

In the paper, necessary and sufficient conditions for an Abelian group A to be isomorphic to the endomorphism group End(A) are obtained. The classes of periodic Abelian groups, divisible Abelian groups, nonreduced Abelian groups, and reduced algebraically compact Abelian groups are considered. For certain classes of Abelian groups, the isomorphism problem for a group and its endomorphism group is solved under the assumption that the endomorphism group itself has the corresponding property.     

The Tits Alternative for Groups Defined by Periodic Paired Relations

The class of groups defined by periodic paired relations, as introduced by Vinberg, includes the generalized triangle groups, the generalized tetrahedron groups, and the generalized Coxeter groups. We observe that any group defined by periodic paired relations Γ can be realized as a so-called “Pride group”. Using results of Howie and Kopteva we give necessary and sufficient conditions for this Pride group to be non-spherical. Under such conditions, we show that Γ satisfies the Tits alternative.

Torsion-free constructive nilpotent <Emphasis Type="Italic">R</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis></Subscript>-groups

We consider a torsion-free nilpotent R _p -group, the p-rank of whose quotient by the commutant is equal to 1 and either the rank of the center by the commutant is infinite or the rank of the group by the commutant is finite. We prove that the group is constructivizable if and only if it is isomorphic to the central extension of some divisible torsion-free constructive abelian group by some torsion-free constructive abelian R _p -group with a computably enumerable basis and a computable system of commutators. We obtain similar criteria for groups of that type as well as divisible groups to be positively defined. We also obtain sufficient conditions for the constructivizability of positively defined groups.     

Some Conditions Under which a Finite Group Belongs to a Baer-Local Formation

We give some conditions under which a finite group belongs to a Baer-local formation containing all finite supersoluble groups.

A CHARACTERIZATION OF LOCALLY COMPACT INNER AMENABLE GROUPS

For locally compact groups G, Kuan Yuan studied a notion of inner amenability groups, that is, if there exists an inner invariant mean on G. In this article, among other things, the author investigates the inner amenability on a locally compact group G. The author gives sufficient conditions and some necessary conditions about G to have an inner invariant mean.

Pregroups and the big powers condition

We study groups having the big powers property BP. It is proved that if a pregroup satisfies some natural axioms, then its universal group has this property. In particular, fundamental groups of some graphs of groups have the big powers property if BP holds for edge and vertex subgroups and a number of natural conditions are satisfied. The results obtained are applied to Lyndon’s completions U(P)^ℤ[t] of the universal group U(P) with P satisfying the conditions mentioned. Dedicated to V. N. Descent principle in modular Galois theory

We propound a descent principle by which previously constructed equations over GF(q _n)(X) may be deformed to have incarnations over GF(q)(X) without changing their Galois groups. Currently this is achieved by starting with a vectorial (= additive)q-polynomial ofq-degreem with Galois group GL(m, q) and then, under suitable conditions, enlarging its Galois group to GL(m, q _n) by forming its generalized iterate relative to an auxiliary irreducible polynomial of degreen. Elsewhere this was proved under certain conditions by using the classification of finite simple groups, and under some other conditions by using Kantor’s classification of linear groups containing a Singer cycle. Now under different conditions we prove it by using Cameron-Kantor’s classification of two-transitive linear groups.

Quasi-isometries of groups, graphs and surfaces

We give a characterization of virtual surface groups as groups quasi-isometric to complete simply-connected Riemannian surfaces. Results on the equivalence up to quasi-isometry of various bounded geometry conditions for Riemannian surfaces are also obtained. Received: January 18, 2000     

Connected cubic s-arc-regular Cayley graphs of finite nonabelian simple groups

A graph is said to be s-arc-regular if its full automorphism group acts regularly on the set of its s-arcs. In this paper, we investigate connected cubic s-arc-regular Cayley graphs of finite nonabelian simple groups. Two suffcient and necessary conditions for such graphs to be 1- or 2-arc-regular are given and based on the conditions, several infinite families of 1-or 2-arc-regular cubic Cayley graphs of alternating groups are constructed.     

Automorphisms and normal subgroups of linear groups

In the present paper, the properties of orders of coprime automorphisms of irreducible linear groups are established and sufficient conditions for the existence of a normal Hall π-subgroup in a given π-separable irreducible complex linear group are obtained. Библиография: 11 наэваний.     

Prederivations of Lie Algebras and Isometries of Bi-invariant Lie Group

Lie groups with bi-invariant semi-Riemannian metrics are considered. We study the decomposition of the algebra of prederivations of a direct sum of Lie algebras and derive some results on the isotropy group of a bi-invariant product Lie group. We also give necessary and sufficient conditions to ensure that all isometries of a complex Lie group, endowed with a bi-invariant Norden metric, are holomorphic.     

On the Isomorphism of Some Groups with One Defining Relation

Each of the groups in the class under consideration in the paper is presented by one defining relation depending on three integral parameters and is an HNN-extension of some Baumslag—Solitar group. Necessary and sufficient conditions for two groups of this class to be isomorphic and also for two nonisomorphic groups to be homomorphic images of each other are obtained. A consequence of this fact is the negative answer to Question 3.33 in “The Kourovka Notebook.”     

Connected cubic <Emphasis Type="Italic">s</Emphasis>-arc-regular Cayley graphs of finite nonabelian simple groups

A graph is said to be s-arc-regular if its full automorphism group acts regularly on the set of its s-arcs. In this paper, we investigate connected cubic s-arc-regular Cayley graphs of finite nonabelian simple groups. Two sufficient and necessary conditions for such graphs to be 1- or 2-arcregular are given and based on the conditions, several infinite families of 1- or 2-arc-regular cubic Cayley graphs of alternating groups are constructed.
