Let R be a commutative ring with identity. R is a finite factorization ring (FFR) if every nonzero nonunit of R has only a finite number of factorizations up to order and associates. In this article, we give a characterization of R for R[X] and R[[X]] to be an FFR.  相似文献

We investigate non-unique factorization of polynomials in ? p n [x] into irreducibles. As a Noetherian ring whose zero-divisors are contained in the Jacobson radical, ? p n [x] is atomic. We reduce the question of factoring arbitrary nonzero polynomials into irreducibles to the problem of factoring monic polynomials into monic irreducibles. The multiplicative monoid of monic polynomials of ? p n [x] is a direct sum of monoids corresponding to irreducible polynomials in ? p [x], and we show that each of these monoids has infinite elasticity. Moreover, for every m ∈ ?, there exists in each of these monoids a product of 2 irreducibles that can also be represented as a product of m irreducibles.  相似文献

Let D be an integral domain such that every nonzero nonunit of D is a finite product of irreducible elements. In this article, we introduce and study several unifying concepts for the theory of nonunique factorization in D. They give a new way to measure, in some sense, how far an half-factorial domain (resp., bounded factorization domain, atomic domain) D is from being a UFD (resp., finite factorization domain, Cohen–Kaplansky domain) based on equivalence relations on the set of irreducible elements of D.  相似文献

In two articles, Anderson and Valdes-Leon generalized the theory of factorization in integral domains to commutative rings with zero divisors and to modules. Here we investigate some factorization properties in modules and state a result that relates factorization properties of an R-module, M, to the factorization properties of M as an (R/Ann(M))-module. Furthermore, we will investigate when a polynomial module, M[x], has the bounded factorization property, assuming that M has this property.  相似文献

Abstract

An element in a ring is called clean if it may be written as a sum of a unit and idempotent. The ring itself is called clean if every element is clean. Recently,Anderson and Camillo (Anderson,D. D.,Camillo,V. (2002). Commutative rings whose elements are a sum of a unit and an idempotent. Comm. Algebra 30(7):3327–3336) has shown that for commutative rings every von-Neumann regular ring as well as zero-dimensional rings are clean. Moreover,every clean ring is a pm-ring,that is every prime ideal is contained in a unique maximal ideal. In the same article,the authors give an example of a commutative ring which is a pm-ring yet not clean,e.g.,C(?). It is this example which interests us. Abstract

Let (T, M) be a complete local normal integral domain containing the rationals such that |T/M | ≥ c where c is the cardinality of the real numbers. Let p be a non-maximal prime ideal of T such that T p is a regular local ring. We construct a local Unique Factorization Domain (UFD) A such that the M-adic completion of A is T, p is maximal in the generic formal fiber and all fibers of A are geometrically regular except for those over some height one prime ideals.

We study, within the framework of intuitionistic logic, two well-known general results of (classical logic) bounded arithmetic. Firstly, Parikh's theorem on the existence of bounding terms for the provably total functions. It is shown that the concept of bounded variation in the mean is not a meaningful generalization of ordinary bounded variation. In fact, it is a characterization of functions which differ from functions of bounded variation on a zero set.

Let R be a commutative local ring. It is proved that R is Henselian if and only if each R-algebra which is a direct limit of module finite R-algebras is strongly clean. So, the matrix ring 𝕄 n (R) is strongly clean for each integer n > 0 if R is Henselian and we show that the converse holds if either the residue class field of R is algebraically closed or R is an integrally closed domain or R is a valuation ring. It is also shown that each R-algebra which is locally a direct limit of module-finite algebras, is strongly clean if R is a π-regular commutative ring.  相似文献

The well-known Schur's Lemma states that the endomorphism ring of a simple module is a division ring. But the converse is not true in general. In this paper we study modules whose endomorphism rings are division rings. We first reduce our consideration to the case of faithful modules with this property. Using the existence of such modules, we obtain results on a new notion which generalizes that of primitive rings. When R is a full or triangular matrix ring over a commutative ring, a structure theorem is proved for an R-module M such that End R (M) is a division ring. A number of examples are given to illustrate our results and to motivate further study on this topic.  相似文献

In this article, we define a G-regular local ring as a commutative, noetherian, local ring, over which all totally reflexive modules are free. We study G-regular local rings and observe that they behave similarly to regular local rings. In this paper, we introduce the notion of bounded Betti numbers, and show that the bounded Betti numbers of a closed Riemannian n-manifold (M, g) with Ric (M) ≥ -(n - 1) and Diam (M) ≤ D are bounded by a number depending on D and n. We also show that there are only finitely many isometric isomorphism types of bounded cohomology groups (H*(M), || · ||∞) among closed Riemannian manifold (M, g) with K(M) ≥-1 and Diam (M) ≤ D.  相似文献
