Let A be an abelian group. A group B is A-solvable if the natural map Hom(A, B) ?  E(A) A → B is an isomorphism. We study pure subgroups of A-solvable groups for a self-small group A of finite torsion-free rank. Particular attention is given to the case that A is in , the class of self-small mixed groups G with G/tG? ? n for some n < ω. We obtain a new characterization of the elements of , and demonstrate that differs in various ways from the class ? of torsion-free abelian groups of finite rank despite the fact that the quasi-category ? is dual to a full subcategory of ? ?.  相似文献

Let C be an Abelian group. An Abelian group A in some class of Abelian groups is said to be C H-definable in the class if, for any group B\in , it follows from the existence of an isomorphism Hom(C,A) Hom(C,B) that there is an isomorphism A B. If every group in is C H-definable in , then the class is called an C H-class. In the paper, conditions are studied under which a class of completely decomposable torsion-free Abelian groups is a C H-class, where C is a completely decomposable torsion-free Abelian group.  相似文献

It is well-known Heyde's characterization theorem for the Gaussian distribution on the real line: if j are independent random variables, j , j are nonzero constants such that i ± j –1 j 0 for all i j and the conditional distribution of L 2=1 1 + ··· + n n given L 1=1 1 + ··· + n n is symmetric, then all random variables j are Gaussian. We prove some analogs of this theorem, assuming that independent random variables take on values in a finite Abelian group X and the coefficients j , j are automorphisms of X.  相似文献

In the present paper, for any finite group G of Lie type (except for 2 F 4(q)), the order a(G) of its large Abelian subgroup is either found or estimated from above and from below (the latter is done for the groups F 4 (q), E 6 (q), E 7 (q), E 8 (q), and 2 E 6(q 2)). In the groups for which the number a(G) has been found exactly, any large Abelian subgroup coincides with a large unipotent or a large semisimple Abelian subgroup. For the groups F 4 (q), E 6 (q), E 7 (q), E 8 (q), and 2 E 6(q 2)), it is shown that if an Abelian subgroup contains a noncentral semisimple element, then its order is less than the order of an Abelian unipotent group. Hence in these groups the large Abelian subgroups are unipotent, and in order to find the value of a(G) for them, it is necessary to find the orders of the large unipotent Abelian subgroups. Thus it is proved that in a finite group of Lie type (except for 2 F 4(q))) any large Abelian subgroup is either a large unipotent or a large semisimple Abelian subgroup.  相似文献

A notion of admissible probability measures μ on a locally compact Abelian group (LCA ‐ group) G with connected dual group Ĝ = ℝd × 𝕋n is defined. To such a measure μ, a closed semigroup Λ(μ) ⊆ (0, ∞) can be associated, such that, for t ∈ Λ(μ), the Fourier transform to the power t, (μˆ)t, is a characteristic function. We prove that the existence of roots for non admissible probability measures underlies some restrictions, which do not hold in the admissible case. As we show for the example ℤ2, in the case of LCA ‐ groups with non connected dual group, there is no canonical definition of the set Λ(μ).  相似文献

We introduce two classes of abelian groups which have either only trivial fully invariant subgroups or all their nontrivial (respectively nonzero) fully invariant subgroups are isomorphic, called IFI-groups and strongly IFI-groups, such that every strongly IFI-group is an IFI-group, respectively. Moreover, these classes coincide when the groups are torsion-free, but are different when the groups are torsion as well as, surprisingly, mixed groups cannot be IFI-groups. Necessary and sufficient conditions for simplicity of a general skew group ring A ?σ G are not known. In this article, we show that a skew group ring A ?σ G, of an abelian group G, is simple if and only if its centre is a field and A is G-simple. As an application, we show that a transformation group (X, G), where X is a compact Hausdorff space acted upon by an abelian group G, is minimal and faithful if and only if its associated skew group algebra C(X) ?σ G is simple.  相似文献

Let p be a prime. We prove that if a finite group G has non-abelian Sylow p-subgroups, and the class size of every p-element in G is coprime to p, then G contains a simple group as a subquotient which exhibits the same property. In addition, we provide a list of all the simple groups and primes such that the Sylow p-subgroups are non-abelian and all p-elements have class size coprime to p.  相似文献

Macpherson and Steinhorn (Macpherson and Steinhorn, Ann. Pure Appl. Logic 79 (1996) 165–209) introduce some variants of the notion of o-minimality. One of the most interesting is C-minimality, which provides a natural setting to study algebraically closed-valued fields and some valued groups. In this paper we go further in the study of the structure of C-minimal valued groups, giving a partial characterization in the abelian case. We obtain the following principle: for abelian valued groups G for which the valuation satisfies some kind of compatibility with the multiplication by any prime number p, being C-minimal is equivalent to the o-minimality of the expansion of the chain of valuations by the maps induced by the multiplication by each prime number in G, and by some unary predicates controlling the cardinality of the residual structures. This result is quite nice, because the class considered contains all the natural examples of abelian C-minimal valued groups of (Macpherson and Steinhorn, Ann. Pure Appl. Logic 79 (1996) 165–209), and allows us to find many more examples.  相似文献
