Abstract

In this paper, we are mainly interested in describing constructively u(Z(G × C 2)), where u(ZG) has been described in some way. We first consider unitary units and prove that if u(ZG) is generated by unitary units, then U(Z(G × C2)) is also generated by unitary units. Then we consider bicyclic units and ask the following question: If G has a normal complement generated by bicyclic units, does G × C 2 also have a normal complement generated by bicyclic units? We give a negative answer to the above in general, showing that none of the normal complements of D 8 × C 2 × C 2 is generated by bicyclic units, although a normal complement of D 8 × C 2 is indeed generated by bicyclic units.  相似文献

One key problem in the theory of abstract polytopes is the so-called amalgamation problem. In its most general form, this is the problem of characterising the polytopes with given facets  $\mathcal {K}$ and vertex figures ?. The first step in solving it for particular  $\mathcal{K}$ and ? is to find the universal such polytope, which covers all the others. This article explains a construction that may be attempted on an arbitrary polytope ?, which often yields an infinite family of finite polytopes covering ? and sharing its facets and vertex figures. The existence of such an infinite family proves that the universal polytope is infinite; alternatively, the construction can produce an explicit example of an infinite polytope of the desired type. An algorithm for attempting the construction is explained, along with sufficient conditions for it to work. The construction is applied to a few  $\mathcal{K}$ and ? for which it was previously not known whether or not the universal polytope was infinite, or for which only a finite number of finite polytopes was previously known. It is conjectured that the construction is quite broadly applicable.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to weighted spaces ? p w (G) on a locally compact group G. If w is a positive measurable function on G, then the space ? p w (G), p ≥ 1, is defined by the relation ? p w (G) = {f: fw ∈ ? p (G)}. The weights w for which these spaces are algebras with respect to the ordinary convolution are treated. It is shown that, for p > 1, every sigma-compact group admits a weight defining such an algebra. The following criterion is proved (which was known earlier for special cases only): a space ? p w (G) is an algebra if and only if the function w is semimultiplicative. It is proved that the invariance of the space ? p w (G) with respect to translations is a sufficient condition for the existence of an approximate identity in the algebra ? p w (G). It is also shown that, for a nondiscrete group G and for p > 1, no approximate identity of an invariant weighted algebra can be bounded.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group and let p be a fixed prime number. Let B be a p-block of G with defect group D. In this paper, we give results on 3-blocks with abelian defect groups isomorphic to Z3m ×Z3n. We are particularly interested in the number of irreducible ordinary characters and the number of irreducible Brauer characters in the block. The two-dimensional classical Hardy space Hp(T×T) on the bidisc are introduced, and it is shown that the maximal operator of the (C,α,β) means of a distribution is bounded from the space Hp(T×T) to Lp(T2) (1/(α+1), 1/(β+1)<p≤∞), and is of weak type (H 1 # (T×T), L1(T2)), where the Hardy space H 1 # (T×T) is defined by the hybrid maximal function. As a consequence we obtain that the (C, α, β) means of a function f∈H 1 # (T×T)⊃LlogL(T 2) convergs a. e. to the function in question. Moreover, we prove that the (C, α, β) means are uniformly bounded on the spaces Hp(T×T) whenever 1/(α+1), 1(β+1)<p<∞. Thus, in case f∈Hp(T×T), the (C, α, β) means convergs to f in Hp(T×T) norm whenever (1/(α+1), 1/(β+1)<p<∞). The same results are proved for the conjugate (C, α, β) means, too.  相似文献
