In singularity theory or algebraic geometry, it is natural to investigate possible Hilbert functions for special algebras A such as local complete intersections or more generally Gorenstein algebras. The sequences that occur as the Hilbert functions of standard graded complete intersections are well understood classically thanks to Macaulay and Stanley. Very little is known in the local case except in codimension two. In this paper we characterise the Hilbert functions of quadratic Artinian complete intersections of codimension three. Interestingly we prove that a Hilbert function is admissible for such a Gorenstein ring if and only if is admissible for such a complete intersection. We provide an effective construction of a local complete intersection for a given Hilbert function. We prove that the symmetric decomposition of such a complete intersection ideal is determined by its Hilbert function.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper we prove the existence of minimal level artinian graded algebras having socle degree r and type t and describe their h-vector in terms of the r-binomial expansion of t. We also investigate the graded Betti numbers of such algebras and completely describe their extremal resolutions. We also show that any set of points in ? n whose Hilbert function has first difference as described above, must satisfy the Cayley-Bacharach property.  相似文献

An SI-sequence is a finite sequence of positive integers which is symmetric, unimodal and satisfies a certain growth condition. These are known to correspond precisely to the possible Hilbert functions of graded Artinian Gorenstein algebras with the weak Lefschetz property, a property shared by a nonempty open set of the family of all graded Artinian Gorenstein algebras having a fixed Hilbert function that is an SI sequence. Starting with an arbitrary SI-sequence, we construct a reduced, arithmetically Gorenstein configuration G of linear varieties of arbitrary dimension whose Artinian reduction has the given SI-sequence as Hilbert function and has the weak Lefschetz property. Furthermore, we show that G has maximal graded Betti numbers among all arithmetically Gorenstein subschemes of projective space whose Artinian reduction has the weak Lefschetz property and the given Hilbert function. As an application we show that over a field of characteristic zero every set of simplicial polytopes with fixed h-vector contains a polytope with maximal graded Betti numbers.  相似文献

We define the socle of a nondegenerate Lie algebra as the sum of all its minimal inner ideals. The socle turns out to be an ideal which is a direct sum of simple ideals, and satisfies the descending chain condition on principal inner ideals. Every classical finite dimensional Lie algebra coincides with its socle, while relevant examples of infinite dimensional Lie algebras with nonzero socle are the simple finitary Lie algebras and the classical Banach Lie algebras of compact operators on an infinite dimensional Hilbert space. This notion of socle for Lie algebras is compatible with the previous ones for associative algebras and Jordan systems. We conclude with a structure theorem for simple nondegenerate Lie algebras containing abelian minimal inner ideals, and as a consequence we obtain that a simple Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0 is finitary if and only if it is nondegenerate and contains a rank-one element.  相似文献

Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity and any extended degree function can be thought of as complexity measures for the structure of finitely generated graded modules. A recent result of Doering, Gunston, and Vasconcelos shows that both can be compared in the case of a graded algebra. We extend this result to modules and analyze when the estimate is in fact an equality. A complete classification is obtained if we choose as extended degree the homological or the smallest extended degree. The corresponding algebras are characterized in three ways: by relations among the algebra generators, by using generic initial ideals, and by their Hilbert series.

We prove that the Auslander-Reiten conjecture holds for commutative standard graded artinian algebras, in two situations: the first is under the assumption that the modules considered are graded and generated in a single degree. The second is under the assumption that the algebra is generic Gorenstein of socle degree 3.  相似文献

Varieties of associative algebras over a field of characteristic zero are considered. Belov recently proved that, in any variety of this kind, the Hilbert series of a relatively free algebra of finite rank is rational. At the same time, for three important varieties, namely, those of algebras with zero multiplication, of commutative algebras, and of all associative algebras, a stronger assertion holds: for these varieties, formulas that rationally express the Hilbert series of the free product algebra via the Hilbert series of the factors are well known. In the paper, a system of counterexamples is presented which shows that there is no formula of this kind in any other variety, even in the case of two factors one of which is a free algebra. However, if we restrict ourselves to the class of graded PI-algebras generated by their components of degree one, then there exist infinitely many varieties for each of which a similar formula is valid. We introduce and develop new techniques to study the complexity of normalization processes of graded algebras. The construction of a new degree function on graded modules, with a global nature, permits a broad extension of recent bounds for the length of the chains of subalgebras that general algorithms must transverse to build the integral closure, particularly of blowup algebras. It achieves this by relating the values of the new degree with invariants of the algebra known ab initio. As a by-product, it reveals new inequalities among Hilbert coefficients. In this paper we attack the problem of the classification, up to analytic isomorphism, of Artinian Gorenstein local k-algebras with a given Hilbert Function. We solve the problem in the case the square of the maximal ideal is minimally generated by two elements and the socle degree is high enough.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce the notion of Jordan socle for nondegenerate Lie algebras, which extends the definition of socle given in [A. Fernández López et al., 3-Graded Lie algebras with Jordan finiteness conditions, Comm. Algebra, in press] for 3-graded Lie algebras. Any nondegenerate Lie algebra with essential Jordan socle is an essential subdirect product of strongly prime ones having nonzero Jordan socle. These last algebras are described, up to exceptional cases, in terms of simple Lie algebras of finite rank operators and their algebras of derivations. When working with Lie algebras which are infinite dimensional over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0, the exceptions disappear and the algebras of derivations are computed.  相似文献

We present some general theorems about operator algebras that are algebras of functions on sets, including theories of local algebras, residually finite-dimensional operator algebras and algebras that can be represented as the scalar multipliers of a vector-valued reproducing kernel Hilbert space. We use these to further develop a quantized function theory for various domains that extends and unifies Agler's theory of commuting contractions and the Arveson-Drury-Popescu theory of commuting row contractions. We obtain analogous factorization theorems, prove that the algebras that we obtain are dual operator algebras and show that for many domains, supremums over all commuting tuples of operators satisfying certain inequalities are obtained over all commuting tuples of matrices.  相似文献

In this paper we study some questions related to the socle of a nondegenerate noncommutative Jordan algebra. First we show that elements of finite rank belong to the socle, and that every element in the socle is von Neumann regular and has finite spectrum. Next we show that for Jordan Banach algebras the socle coincides with the maximal von Neumann regular ideal. For a nondegenerate noncommutative Jordan algebra, the annihilator of its socle can be regarded as a radical which is, generally, larger than Jacobson radical. Moreover, a nondegenerate noncommutative Jordan algebra whose socle has zero annihilator is isomorphic to a subdirect sum of primitive algebras having nonzero socle (which were described in [4]). Finally, these results are specialized to the particular case of an alternative algebra. The authors wish to thank the referee for his suggestions for improving the presentation of the paper.  相似文献

We consider graded finitely presented algebras and modules over a field. Under some restrictions, the set of Hilbert series of such algebras (or modules) becomes finite. Claims of that type imply the rationality of Hilbert and Poincaré series of some algebras and modules, including the periodicity of Hilbert functions of many (e.g., Noetherian) modules and algebras of linear growth. __________ Translated from Fundamentalnaya i Prikladnaya Matematika, Vol. 10, No. 3, pp. 143–156, 2004.  相似文献

The set of Hilbert functions of standard graded algebras is considered as a partially ordered set under numerical comparison. For the set of algebras H(d, e0), of a given dimension d and multiplicity e0, we describe the requirements its maximal elements must satisfy; under fairly general conditions, the extremal functions arise from Cohen-Macaulay algebras. We also examine the subset H(d, e0, e1), of those functions whose first two coefficients of their Hilbert polynomials are assigned. Finally, we show how these results and the use of certain extended multiplicities can be used to prove finiteness theorems for the number of corresponding functions.  相似文献

In order to use dualization to study Hilbert functions of artinian level algebras we extend the notion of level sequences and cancellable sequences, introduced by Geramita and Lorenzini, to include Hilbert functions of certain artinian modules. As in the case of algebras a level sequence is cancellable, but now by dualization its reverse is also cancellable which gives a new condition on level sequences. We also give a characterization of the cancellable sequences involving Macaulay representations.  相似文献

We first prove that a graded, connected, free and cofree Hopf algebra is always self-dual. Then, we prove that two graded, connected, free and cofree Hopf algebras are isomorphic if and only if they have the same Poincaré–Hilbert formal series. If the characteristic of the base field is zero, we prove that the Lie algebra of the primitive elements of such an object is free, and we deduce a characterization of the formal series of free and cofree Hopf algebras by a condition of growth of the coefficients. We finally show that two graded, connected, free and cofree Hopf algebras are isomorphic as (nongraded) Hopf algebras if and only if the Lie algebras of their primitive elements have the same number of generators.  相似文献

We study the Hilbert polynomials of finitely generated graded algebras R, with generators not all of degree one (i.e. non-standard). Given an expression P(R,t)=a(t)/(1-tl ) n for the Poincare series of R as a rational function, we study for 0 ≤ il the graded subspaces ? kRkl+i (which we denote R[l;i]) of R, in particular their Poincaré series and Hilbert functions. We prove, for example, that if R is Cohen-Macaulay then the Hilbert polynomials of all non-zeroR[l;i] share a common degree. Furthermore, if R is also a domain then these Hilbert polynomials have the same leading coefficient.  相似文献

We prove that the Hilbert functions of Gorenstein Artin algebras R/I of embedding dimension four are unimodal provided I has a minimal generator in degree less than five. It is still an open question as to whether all Gorenstein Hilbert functions in codimension four are SI-sequences. It is not even known if they are all unimodal. In this article, we prove that Hilbert functions of all Gorenstein Artin algebras starting with (1, 4, 10, 20, h 4,…), where h 4 = 34 are unimodal. Combining this with previously known results, we obtain that all Gorenstein Hilbert functions (1, 4, h 2, h 3, h 4,…4, 1) are unimodal if h 4 ≤ 34.  相似文献

Macaulay??s Theorem (Macaulay in Proc. Lond Math Soc 26:531?C555, 1927) characterizes the Hilbert functions of graded ideals in a polynomial ring over a field. We characterize the Hilbert functions of graded ideals in a Veronese ring R (the coordinate ring of a Veronese embedding of P r-1). We also prove that the Hilbert scheme, which parametrizes all graded ideals in R with a fixed Hilbert function, is connected; this is an analogue of Hartshorne??s Theorem (Hartshorne in Math. IHES 29:5?C48, 1966) that Hilbert schemes over a polynomial ring are connected. Furthermore, we prove that each lex ideal in R has the greatest Betti numbers among all graded ideals with the same Hilbert function.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop the general approach, introduced in [l], to Lax operators on algebraic curves. We observe that the space of Lax operators is closed with respect to their usual multiplication as matrix-valued functions. We construct orthogonal and symplectic analogs of Lax operators, prove that they form almost graded Lie algebras, and construct local central extensions of these Lie algebras.  相似文献
