The singularity category of a ring makes only the modules of finite projective dimension vanish among the modules, so that the singularity category is expected to characterize a homological property of modules of infinite projective dimension. In this paper, among such modules, we deal with eventually periodic modules over a left artin ring, and, as our main result, we characterize them in terms of morphisms in the singularity category. As applications, we first prove that, for the class of finite dimensional algebras over a field, being eventually periodic is preserved under singular equivalence of Morita type with level. Moreover, we determine which finite dimensional connected Nakayama algebras are eventually periodic when the ground field is algebraically closed.  相似文献

Following our previous work about quasi-projective dimension [11], in this paper, we introduce quasi-injective dimension as a generalization of injective dimension. We recover several well-known results about injective and Gorenstein-injective dimensions in the context of quasi-injective dimension such as the following. (a) If the quasi-injective dimension of a finitely generated module M over a local ring R is finite, then it is equal to the depth of R. (b) If there exists a finitely generated module of finite quasi-injective dimension and maximal Krull dimension, then R is Cohen-Macaulay. (c) If there exists a nonzero finitely generated module with finite projective dimension and finite quasi-injective dimension, then R is Gorenstein. (d) Over a Gorenstein local ring, the quasi-injective dimension of a finitely generated module is finite if and only if its quasi-projective dimension is finite.  相似文献

Before his death, Auslander announced that every finitely generated module over a local Gorenstein ring has a minimal Cohen–Macaulay approximation. Yoshimo extended Auslander's result to local Cohen–Macaulay rings admitting a dualizing module.Over a local Gorenstein ring the finitely generated maximal Cohen–Macaulay modules are the finitely generated Gorenstein projective modules so in fact Auslander's theorem says finitely generated modules over such rings have Gorenstein projective covers. We extend Auslander's theorem by proving that over a local Cohen–Macaulay ring admitting a dualizing module all finitely generated modules of finite G-dimension (in Auslander's sense) have a Gorenstein projective cover. Since all finitely generated modules over a Gorenstein ring have finite G-dimension, we recover Auslander's theorem when R is Gorenstein.  相似文献

For a finite free and projective EI category, we prove that Gorenstein-projective modules over its category algebra are closed under the tensor product if and only if each morphism in the given category is a monomorphism.  相似文献

Abstract

For a Noetherian local ring, the prime ideals in the singular locus completely determine the category of finitely generated modules up to direct summands, extensions and syzygies. From this some simple homological criteria are derived for testing whether an arbitrary module has finite projective dimension.  相似文献

The main result in this paper is that the. projective dimension of the nth order universal module of the. coordinate ring of the product of a reduced hypersurface and an affine t-spa.ee is finite. This question appears in [1]. We have seen this by showing that projective dimension of the nth order universal module of the ring corresponding to a reduced hypersurface is finite. At the end we present some examples related to projective dimension of the universal modules of the product of variaties.  相似文献

In this paper we study the category of finitely generated modules of finite projective dimension over a class of weakly triangular algebras, which includes the algebras whose idempotent ideals have finite projective dimension. In particular, we prove that the relations given by the (relative) almost split sequences generate the group of all relations for the Grothendieck group of P <∞(Λ) if and only if P <∞(Λ) is of finite type. A similar statement is known to hold for the category of all finitely generated modules over an artin algebra, and was proven by C.M.Butler and M. Auslander ( [B] and [A]).  相似文献

A characterization of finitely generated torsion modules of not necessarily finite projective dimension over a Cohen–Macaulay ring, is given in terms of the non-Cohen–Macaulay loci and the Fitting invariants of a free resolution of such a module.  相似文献

We prove that the class of Gorenstein projective modules is special precovering over any left GF-closed ring such that every Gorenstein projective module is Gorenstein flat and every Gorenstein flat module has finite Gorenstein projective dimension. This class of rings includes (strictly) Gorenstein rings, commutative noetherian rings of finite Krull dimension, as well as right coherent and left n-perfect rings. In Sect. 4 we give examples of left GF-closed rings that have the desired properties (every Gorenstein projective module is Gorenstein flat and every Gorenstein flat has finite Gorenstein projective dimension) and that are not right coherent.  相似文献

We present various approaches to J. Herzog's theory of generalized local cohomology and explore its main aspects, e.g., (non-)vanishing results as well as a general local duality theorem which extends, to a much broader class of rings, previous results by Herzog-Zamani and Suzuki. As an application, we establish a prescribed upper bound for the projective dimension of a module satisfying suitable cohomological conditions, and we derive some freeness criteria and questions of Auslander-Reiten type. Along the way, we prove a new characterization of Cohen-Macaulay modules which truly relies on generalized local cohomology, and in addition we introduce and study a generalization of the notion of canonical module.  相似文献

We introduce the singularity category with respect to Ding projective modules, D_(dpsg)~b(R),as the Verdier quotient of Ding derived category D_(DP)~b(R) by triangulated subcategory K~b(DP), and give some triangle equivalences. Assume DP is precovering. We show that D_(DP)~b(R)≌K~(-,dpb)(DP)and D_(dpsg)~b(R)≌D_(Ddefect)~b(R). We prove that each R-module is of finite Ding projective dimension if and only if D_(dpsg)~b(R) = 0.  相似文献

It is proved that a semiperfect module is lifting if and only if it has a projective cover preserving direct summands. Three corollaries are obtained: (1) every cyclic module over a ring R is lifting if and only if every cyclic R-module has a projective cover preserving direct summands; (2) a ring R is artinian serial with Jacobson radical square-zero if and only if every (2-generated) R-module has a projective cover preserving direct summands; (3) a ring R is a right (semi-)perfect ring if and only if (cyclic) lifting R-module has a projective cover preserving direct summands, if and only if every (cyclic) R-module having a projective cover preserving direct summands is lifting. It is also proved that every cyclic module over a ring R is ⊕-supplemented if and only if every cyclic R-module is a direct sum of local modules. Consequently, a ring R is artinian serial if and only if every left and right R-module is a direct sum of local modules.  相似文献

A cruterion was given in [M] for a module to have finite projective dimension over a pullback of local rings. The main purpose of this paper is to show an analogue holds for injective dimension.  相似文献

We define and study a notion of Gorenstein projective dimension for complexes of left modules over associative rings. For complexes of finite Gorenstein projective dimension we define and study a Tate cohomology theory. Tate cohomology groups have a natural transformation to classical Ext groups. In the case of module arguments, we show that these maps fit into a long exact sequence, where every third term is a relative cohomology group defined for left modules of finite Gorenstein projective dimension.

Let k be a commutative ring of coefficients and G be a finite group. Does there exist a flat k G-module which is projective as a k-module but not as a k G-module? We relate this question to the question of existence of a k-module which is flat and periodic but not projective. For either question to have a positive answer, it is at least necessary to have |k| ≥ ?ω. There can be no such example if k is Noetherian of finite Krull dimension, or if k is perfect.  相似文献

We prove that the finitistic dimension of a properly stratified algebra having a simple preserving duality and for which every tilting module is cotilting, equals twice the projective dimension of the characteristic tilting module. As a corollary, we get that the global dimension of a quasi-hereditary algebra with duality equals twice the projective dimension of the characteristic tilting module. As another corollary, we obtain an affirmative answer to the conjecture of Erdmann and Parker. Finally, we calculate the finitistic dimension of the blocks of certain parabolic generalizations of the category .  相似文献

It is proven that the weak dimension of each FP-injective module over a chain ring which is either Archimedean or not semicoherent is less or equal to 2. This implies that the projective dimension of any countably generated FP-injective module over an Archimedean chain ring is less or equal to 3.  相似文献

Let R be a ring and R ω a self-orthogonal module. We introduce the notion of the right orthogonal dimension (relative to R ω) of modules. We give a criterion for computing this relative right orthogonal dimension of modules. For a left coherent and semilocal ring R and a finitely presented self-orthogonal module R ω, we show that the projective dimension of R ω and the right orthogonal dimension (relative to R ω) of R/J are identical, where J is the Jacobson radical of R. As a consequence, we get that R ω has finite projective dimension if and only if every left (finitely presented) R-module has finite right orthogonal dimension (relative to R ω). If ω is a tilting module, we then prove that a left R-module has finite right orthogonal dimension (relative to R ω) if and only if it has a special ω-preenvelope.  相似文献

In this article we give a bound on the number of generators of a finitely generated projective module of constant rank over a commutative Noetherian ring in terms of the rank of the module and the dimension of the ring. Under certain conditions we provide an improvement to the Forster–Swan bound in case of finitely generated projective modules of rank n over an affine algebra over a finite field or an algebraically closed field.  相似文献
