Coupled resonator optical waveguides (CROWs) in complex two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystals (PCs) constructed with a portion of 12-fold photonic quasicrystals (PQs) are proposed. We show that enhanced transmission and slow light can be simultaneously achieved in such waveguides as well as general CROWs. Moreover, due to higher degree of flexibility and tunability of PQs for defect mode properties compared to conventional periodic PCs, multiple slow light bands can be flexibly obtained in CROWs constructed with complex 2D PCs. Our results may lead to the development of a variety of novel ultracompact devices for photonic integrated circuits.  相似文献

The application of photonic band gap (PBG) structures to a microwave switch is studied. For this purpose, a frequency selective multiplexer is implemented combining one-dimensional PBG structures. The tunability of microwave photonic crystals (PCs) with ferrites and/or ferroelectric materials is then considered. A theoretical calculation performed on a two-dimensional hexagonal lattice of air rods embedded in a rectangular ferrite slab shows that the PBG is well tunable with external magnetic field parallel to the air rod. We have also discussed the implementation of microwave switch combining the tunability of PBG structures of ferrite and/or ferroelectric materials and the frequency selective nature of PBG multiplexer.  相似文献

We present an agile optically controlled switch or modulator of terahertz (THz) radiation. The element is based on a one-dimensional photonic crystal with a GaAs wafer inserted in the middle as a defect layer. The THz electric field is enhanced in the photonic structure at the surfaces of the GaAs wafer. Excitation of the front GaAs surface by ultrashort 810 nm laser pulses then leads to an efficient modulation of the THz beam even at low photocarrier concentrations (approximately 10(16) cm(-3)). The response time of the element to pulsed photoexcitation is about 130 ps.  相似文献

Flat lenses are designed by means of graded negative refractive index-based photonic crystals (PCs) constructed using air-holes tuned with different shapes. By gradually modifying the filling factor along the transverse direction, we obtain the graded negative index-based lenses for the purpose of focusing an incident plane wave. The finite-difference and timedomain (FDTD) algorithm is adopted for numerical calculation. Our calculation results indicate that these lenses can finely focus incident plane waves. Moreover, for the same size of air-holes, the focusing properties of the lens with rectangular air-holes are better than those with the other shaped air-holes. The graded negative index PCs lenses could possibly enable new applications in optoelectronic systems.  相似文献

We study the optical bistability (OB) in photonic multilayers doped by graphene sheets, stacking two Bragg reflectors with a defect layer between the reflectors. OB stems from the nonlinear effect of graphene, so the local field of defect mode (DM) could enhance the nonlinearity and reduce the thresholds of bistability. The structure achieves the tunability of bistability due to that the DM frequency and transmittance could be modulated by the chemical potential. Bistability thresholds and interval of the two stable states could be remarkably reduced by decreasing the chemical potential. A lager Bragg periodic number could increase the localizing of field, but the graphene loss may decrease the intensity of transmission light. We have concluded an appropriate periodic number to achieve OB. The study suggests that the tunable bistability of the structure could be used for all-optical switches in optical communication systems.  相似文献

Photonic Crystal Circuits have been widely investigated for various optoelectronics device applications. And the gratings in photonics devices are indispensable tool, which is very common for light manipulation. In this study, an interference grating structure formed by Gaussian beam interferences in photonic crystal waveguide such that having Kerr type nonlinearity is proposed and its transmission characteristics are investigated. Finite-Difference Time-Domain method is used to analyze the device characteristics. According to simulation results, the interference grating has shown special transmission characteristics that can bring tunability for photonic crystal devices. This can be an effective method for controlling optical signals in the photonic crystal for all optical switching/routing applications as a part of add/drop multiplexing.  相似文献

By employing the liquid crystal refractive index changes induced by applied electric field, a novel terahertz polarization splitter with tunable the operating frequency and bandwidths has been proposed and theoretically analyzed. It possesses an extinction ratio as high as the polarization splitters based on the two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguides. 研究了光子晶体表面石墨烯在应力赝磁场作用下的太赫兹(THz)吸收.由于应力赝磁场的存在使得石墨烯中电子出现朗道能级并对THz波呈现出一个较强的吸收.而光子晶体和石墨烯形成了表面微腔结构使得石墨烯对THz波的吸收比无光子晶体时增强了将近四倍.且可以通过改变应力赝磁场和间隔层厚度来调控石墨烯的THz吸收.  相似文献

Controlling spontaneous emission (SE) is of fundamental importance to a diverse range of photonic applications including but not limited to quantum optics, low power displays, solar energy harvesting and optical communications. Characterized by photonic bandgap (PBG) property, three‐dimensional (3D) photonic crystals (PCs) have emerged as a promising synthetic material, which can manipulate photons in much the same way as a semiconductor does to electrons. Emission tunable nanocrystal quantum dots (QDs) are ideal point sources to be embedded into 3D PCs towards active devices. The challenge however lies in the combination of QDs with 3D PCs without degradation of their emission properties. Polymer materials stand out for this purpose due to their flexibility of incorporating active materials. Combining the versatile multi‐photon 3D micro‐fabrication techniques, active 3D PCs have been fabricated in polymer‐QD composites with demonstrated control of SE from QDs. With this milestone novel miniaturized photonic devices can thus be envisaged.  相似文献

The photonic band gaps in one-dimensional photonic crystals (PCs) are theoretically investigated. A new method to broaden the photonic band gaps is introduced. Based on the similar method, a kind of photonic crystals is constructed to generate photonic band gaps with proportioned central frequencies. 本文研究了铁氧体磁性材料应用于太赫兹波导器件的可行性. 利用铁氧体磁性材料的磁导率随外磁场改变而变化的性质,设计出了一种新颖的磁控连续可调谐太赫兹滤波器和开关. 利用平面波展开法(plane wave expansion,PWE)和时域有限差分法(finite difference time domain,FDTD)计算了二维磁光子晶体中外磁场变化对带隙位置和宽度的影响,结果显示应用该结构实现的滤波器和开关具有良好的性能. 关键词: 磁光子晶体 铁氧体 太赫兹  相似文献

In this letter, a novel terahertz wave modulator based on a silicon oxide/polyaniline photonic crystal is proposed. The modulation mechanism of the novel modulator is based on a dynamic shift of the photonic band gap by the applied external electric field. Its performances were investigated with the finite-difference time-domain method. The novel modulator has 3 dB modulation bandwidth of 10 kHz, a size as small as 20 mm and its extinction ratio larger than 30 dB at the frequency of 1 THz.  相似文献

In this paper, the properties of anisotropic photonic band gaps (PBGs) for three-dimensional (3D) photonic crystals (PCs) composed of the anisotropic positive-index materials (the uniaxial materials) and the epsilon-negative (ENG) materials with body-centered-cubic (bcc) lattices are theoretically studied by a modified plane wave expansion (PWE) method, which are the uniaxial materials spheres inserted in the epsilon-negative materials background. The anisotropic photonic band gaps (PBGs) and one flatbands region can be achieved in first irreducible Brillouin zone. The influences of the ordinary-refractive index, extraordinary-refractive index, filling factor, the electronic plasma frequency, the dielectric constant of ENG materials and the damping factor on the properties of anisotropic PBGs for such 3D PCs are studied in detail, respectively, and some corresponding physical explanations are also given. The numerical results show that the anisotropy can open partial band gaps in such 3D PCs with bcc lattices composed of the ENG materials and uniaxial materials, and the complete PBGs can be obtained compared to the conventional 3D PCs containing the isotropic materials. The calculated results also show that the anisotropic PBGs can be manipulated by the parameters as mentioned above except for the damping factor. Introducing the uniaxial materials into 3D PCs containing the ENG materials can obtain the larger complete PBGs as such 3D PCs with high symmetry, and also provides a way to design the tunable devices.  相似文献

The third-order optical nonlinear susceptibility ?? (3) responsible for phase-conjugate beam in non-degenerate four-wave mixing for a biased asymmetric coupled quantum well (ACQW) structure are given by the doubled-side Feynman diagram technique. It is shown that the photonic echo (PE) in excess of one terahertz pump-probe detuning rate can be achieved under low temperature condition due to electronic wavepaket oscillation when two laser beams interacts with the delocalized excitons in the ACQW structure. Also, the resonant peak position in the frequency domain of the large detuning rate PE depends strongly on an external inverse electric field strength but its peak intensity is insensitive to this one, resulting in the frequency conversion peak maintains a constant in a small bias range.  相似文献

石墨烯是单原子厚的二维狄拉克相对论费米子系统,其优秀的光电学性质得到了广泛的关注和研究. 本论文利用量子理论研究掺杂石墨烯系统外电场和光场共同作用下的非平衡载流子的非线性太赫兹光学性质. 研究发现,掺杂石墨烯带内光吸收表现出强的非线性太赫兹光学特性. 随着外加偏压电场的增大,石墨烯非线性光学响应增强;随着外界太赫兹光频率的减小,非线特性增强. 研究表明通过改变电场强度,可以有效调节石墨烯系统太赫兹非线性光学特性. 研究结果为探索和发展以石墨烯为基础的新型纳米太赫兹光电器件的研究和实际应用提供了理论依据. 关键词: 石墨烯 太赫兹 非线性 光电流  相似文献

By exploiting the Rabi-flopping-induced coherent density oscillations in a weakly dc-biased quantum well, we describe a new method for producing very intense (roughly kilovolts per centimeter), tunable terahertz transients. 利用传输矩阵方法研究了掺杂半导体n-GaAs/聚碳酸脂一维光子晶体的太赫兹波透射谱.研究结果发现,与一般由两种介电材料组成的一维光子晶体不同,由于掺杂半导体中自由载流子对太赫兹波存在较强的吸收,所以这种材料组成的一维光子晶体除可形成光子带隙外,还可以增强n-GaAs对太赫兹波的透射.同时还提出了一种基于这种一维光子晶体的太赫兹波调制器,通过外加电压控制半导体中电子浓度的大小可实现对太赫兹透射波幅度的调制. 关键词: 掺杂半导体光子晶体 太赫兹波 太赫兹波的调制  相似文献

The relative bandgap ωR of photonic crystals structure with rhombus lattice for both TE and TM modes is studied by the plane wave expansion method. Based on the analysis, a bending waveguide of U type can be easily obtained. The steady-state distribution of the electric field with ω = 0.4765(a/λ) of TM mode is given by FDTD method and the transmission is obtained by FFT of the time domain field. All of the sufficient analysis shows the conceptual framework of the proposed rhombus lattice PCs and its great potential application in photonic integration circuit.  相似文献
